Apricot i started out on bench joinery as well. I still do doors and and windows every now and then.
It’s a great place to start your career isn’t it Jason, I prefer being out on the road but being in the bench gave me a great eye for detail I wouldn’t have got anywhere else
Apricot nice work pal
Cheers David ! Much appreciated 🍻

Apricot. Carpenter and cabinet maker. That’s a great skill mix and it shows in the video. I remember doing those joints in woodwork class and sweating when it came to the dry assembly stage 😃. Another great video and craftsmanship. Cheers Lewis.

Hi Lewis and great video. From your joinery background, when joining 2 pieces of timber, as you did for the bottom rail, what is the best way to keep them flat. Have done it several times but always get a rock in the board. I am limited to hand tools though. Thanks Apricots.
Hi Kevin, it would normally mean that the boards aren’t completely flat to begin with, then when you join them this doubles the twist, have you heard of winding sticks ?
@@LTWCarpentry Yes I have heard of the sticks, in the past I usually try to glue the boards first then plane them flat as best I can with a jack plane. Thanks for the reply 👍
Apricot
Cheers buddy ! 🍻
Apricot, great stuff, is your workshop a single garage?
Cheers buddy, no it’s a double garage mate
@@LTWCarpentry such luxuries 😂 it’s hard work in a Single. Looking forward to the next episode.
@@00dawb mate I feel you ! My first workshop was a 1car with 2mitre high ceilings and no power ! 😬😬
apricot apricot and custarsd
Ohh nice ! Warm custard ?
Hi Lewis, Coconut. Only joking Apricot. I started out as a Bench Joiner and had a large workshop in Brentwood Essex, not far from you I think. I used to get my hardwood from Maldon. I need to buy some shortly, where is your man, Josh based? I couldn't find the link but will take another look. Incidentally, I would more a less set my door out like you have done. Great video. Thanks.
Hi buddy, terribly sorry I forgot to add it I have done now. His name is Josh. Great guy. Ohh really what was the name of your joinery business ? It’s not far at all from me. I’m just outside of maldon now. What was the timber place you used to use ?
Thanks. It was Brookes Brothers who I used. It was quite a while ago. RAM Joinery & Design Ltd. Too many overheads during times of recession. We done a lot of pub refurbishments and shopfitting, for Waitrose. Also the run of the mill joinery stuff, fitted furniture etc.
@@hi-tech55 ahh okay nice ! I bet that was interesting work though ! Ahh Brooke’s brothers, they are very good but you pay the price don’t you. But it’s true what they say, you get what you pay for
@@LTWCarpentry yeah what with the net there's more choices around. Its good when we talk to each other and swap ideas. Take care Lewis.
Would have cut the cheeks by hand,. and when marking out the mortices. would have not striked the line all the way across, only were the mortice actually was Apricot
Great to hear how others people work buddy ! Thanks for the comment 🍻
