    I am so upset about the dog. That dog should not have been left in theree. I am glad that no other people or dogs hurt. Something has to be done about the batteries that explode. I know many people who have these bikes and I really hope they never explode at their home because they have a baby and 6 cats. Thank you again for sharing and I am glad your place was not on fire or your bikes. See ya

    Omg that’s horrible. I always feel for small shops that have fires. I hope they will rebuild. Sometimes people just decide it’s not worth it and throw in the towel.
    I suspect it was one of those bike batteries that exploded. The FDNY and news keep warning NYC residents to never store e-bikes/scooters near the front door so you won’t get trapped in your apartment/house if it explodes. They also tell people to get the batteries checked to make sure they’re in good working order and not damaged, to only use chargers and batteries from the manufacturer, and to replace the batteries every couple of years or when they haven’t been used for a long time since they tend to degrade. (Mike, please check your own bike/scooter’s battery and keep it away from your apartment’s front door!)
    Thanks for going to the scene quickly to report. Looks like you’re faster than ABC, NBC, and CBS news.

    • @Nitrous-ej5zy
      @Nitrous-ej5zy Рік тому +2

      I agree with you. But here seems different. If it was a battery, and a chain reaction happened with the other e scooters and bikes, once the fire dept put water on it, the lithium because there is so much sitting in that shop should've had a runaway effect. That fire should've been harder to put out. I've seen Teslas reignited after sitting for a few hours after the fire. As for me. I have 3 scooters in my house. I have a fire extinguisher and fire blankets sitting in the closet next to them. As long as you do everything you said to do, you should be fine. I don't want them outside because of the cold, and also there's more moisture in the air. Which can lead to a fire. Soon as temps get warmer I will send them to the shed which is about 200' from my house. Just worried about humid hot summers in there..... Its the people who abuse the product, ride it hard, and then pop it on the charger right away, or they leave it on the charger and their battery overcharge protection was faulty. But seeing this shop is mere yards from an ocean, filled with salt, and I believe they do rentals. Someone earlier in the day could've rented it, and damaged the unit somehow. Total bummer.

      @@Nitrous-ej5zy Lithium ion batteries catch on fire so often it’s no longer an excuse to mfg them for bicycles, scooters, etc but maybe okay for my cell phone chargers and tools. I think what you said, don’t pop em on the charger hot already from a ride. Still that’s a guess. We had a garage here near Venice burn up over leaving the charger on a long time. You have nothing to fear, as long as you don't beat or misuse the product. You don't ride on hot days, and you don't ride in the winter. You don't roll through water, and you don't want to leave em on the charger. Also you never leave a fully charged battery unused in the house. After a ride, I leave it in the garage out of direct sunlight and cool off before bringing it in. And it doesn't touch the charger until the next day. You follow simple rules and you should be fine. They will probably put up an apartment building instead now would be my guess. Glad it wasn't any worse. Prayers to all who were hurt by this. Thanks to the firefighters.

    Like the other commenters asked...does that shop have E Bikes? The batteries have been sponaneously combusting all around the world. Louis Rossman had a video a couple years ago when he was still in NYC about his ebike battery lighting on fire in the middle of the night.

  • @shetlandbudgie2611
    @shetlandbudgie2611 Рік тому +2

    Those ebike batteries are super dangerous. If the buildings are older (no sprinklers, dry wood) and/or packed with items, the fire gets out of hand in minutes. A couple have been linked to burning out low income hostels in my area.

    Quick question. That building isn’t salvageable. No person involved. The fire was vented in the roof. Why have further firefighters on the roof creating vents, at 6:47. Surely that risk outweighs benefit?

    Mike, I wouldn’t be surprised if the fire started from one of those E bike batteries. People have to keep an eye on them. I like to keep an eye on my phone while charging it. Just watch, the insurance companies will start asking and charging more if you park an E bike or electric car in an attached garage.
