just came across your video. i just got hired pca for med-surg at hospital and im nervous as to what to expect, thank you so much for keeping everything positive! makes me feel much better
I’ve been watching your videos from some time now and finally applied for the PCA at my local hospital here in Kentucky and i got the job i start September 21st thank you so much keep these videos up
SweetSerenity yess you are awesome at your videos I’m apply for nursing school as well so wish me luck on that but i check here every other day to see if you posted anything new !
Asysha Petersen I truly appreciate your support 🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️ I made a schedule for myself and will post every Wednesday and Friday and I may do some bonus days as well ☺️☺️
Nice I’m a LPN and a PCA on the medical unit but in school to be a registered Nurse. It truly is a great experience 🎉 being in the field regardless . Those who would like to see my experience I’ll be doing a video soon on my experience as a PCA on the medical unit 🥳. #Support
I'm new to being a PCA ironically on the med surgery department like you. Do you do EKGs also? How long was your training from day 1. Thank you and God bless
I recently applied to be a CNA to work at my hospital. I am super duper nervous as I have only worked at a nursing home and i know it's completely different! But i have a question, how many days do you work? Do you work weekends?
Shauntay Belton that’s a good question! Honestly when I was done training (two weeks) I was terrified but once I started working I’m like oh okay it’s not so bad so I was okay on my own after two weeks but it’s took about another week or so after that for me to get my own momentum going. It’s all about finding your own ways of doing things as a PCA. I hope that helps 😊
Hey, nice video! I just finished my PCT and will apply to jobs soon. One question, do you draw blood often during your shifts? During my pct course I took phlebotomy, but I really don't want to be drawing blood all day lol
Congratulations ☺️! I actually don’t draw blood that often, I don’t mind drawing blood I actually like it but most times the nurses will draw their own blood unless they are busy and then they will ask me. Also, on my unit drawing blood isn’t a requirement so that could be another reason the nurses don’t ask much, I don’t tell all of them that I can draw blood hehe! But if they know you’re certified they may ask you more often
@@KeShiaWilliams. oh i see. Thank you so much for the response. Ill be suure to not mention it at all hehe bc i dont enjoy doing it but i am certified lol Happy Holidays to you !!!
Shauntay Belton Sure! Just continue following my UA-cam and also if you have Instagram mine is @sweetserenityyyy for updates and etc. also let me know any questions you have I’d be glad to answer or any video suggestions 😊
Hello I have a interview for a hospital as a pct it’s full time , but I also been hearing that they can call you off or your hours will be lower in a hospital even as full time is that true ?
Hello, yes this can happen, this only happens when the census on your unit is extremely low. For my hospital, that is rare. I’m thinking of doing a Q&A about PCT, what do you think? 🤔
You don't need training to be a PCT / PCA. They offer on the job training. If you want to become a CNA , you'll have to complete a PCT course and then take the written / knowledge test to become licensed.
Rachies World it’s honestly the same thing, the differences I would say is depending on which type of unit you will be working on, you will have patients from teens/young adults to older patients which is nice because you don’t see the same patients all the time, you can get pulled to other units which is nice because you get to experience different specialties. From what I heard CNA’s get a lot of patients assigned to them, in the hospital you have about three or two other techs working with you so you split the unit normally (I say normally because there will be days that it’s short staff and it gets tough but you got this!)
I’m not too sure all of the duties of a CNA but from what I hear it’s pretty much the same thing, blood sugar checks, vitals, daily living activities, I can draw blood at my hospital but I am not sure if it’s the same where you will be. If you have any questions feel free to let me know or if there is anything you’d like me to do a video just let me know 😊😊
@sweet serenity Hello. I'm a new cna graduate March 2020 & i have no experience working in a nursing home other than clinicals. Will the hospital hire me or i need the experience first 🤔?
Depending on your location some hospitals may not hire you as a CNA but as a PCT which is very similar, I work with lots of techs who were CNA in nursing homes, definitely apply and give it a try 😊
You will need to find a nurse aide program in your area, once you complete the program you will make an appointment to take your state exam. They’ll walk you through that though.
Hii! For my job, we didn’t have to go through any program, we received on the job training, but there are CNA programs out there which is similar to my job. You can search CNA or Certified Nursing Assistant programs near you. I hope this helps
@@teamslick100 check out Hillendell Medical Training. That's where I went. Loved it. They are in Gwinnett. I'll be starting PCT residency program with NSH. Good luck!
For my hospital the night shift gives bed baths, but we do a lot of bed baths in the day time as well for patients who may have been sleeping at night or just apart of the patients typical routine. Patients are allowed to take showers only if the doctor or nurse okay’s it. When we give showers we cover the patients IV with something called Aqua guard.
Hi! and Yes!! lol sometimes we get a lot of patients who can't clean themselves such as our older patients or even paralyzed patients. BUT I am day shift and usually night shift gets them all cleaned up for the morning.
Shortayy K If you mean are days harder? I would say it depends! For my hospital and my floor days get very hectic, but you just have to prioritize and try not to get behind although it’s super hard not to. Follow my IG @sweetserenityyyy I’m thinking about doing a Q&A
I haven’t worked specifically in ortho but I work on a step down Trauma unit and we have lots and lots of ortho patients. I did do clinical on an ortho unit though I actually really like it. Check out my newest video ☺️
@@KeShiaWilliams. yes I’m starting ortho next week on nights 12s n kind of nervous i have been searching for different UA-cam to see if anyone done it but Came up with nothing
@@sheennaab1685 are you going to be a PCA or nurse? I believe Otho is mainly about moving the patient, mobility, depending on why they are there, most of the time they are surgical patients. Lots of PT and assisting the patients to get around, pain management.. etc. don’t be nervous they should train you for exactly what you need to know, you got this!
No, because every facility has their own policy and protocols as far as what the PCT is allowed to do. Some hospitals allow the PCT to remove foleys and some don’t. But the patient care concept is about the same. I hope that helps 😊
I’m a Tech as well and I agree with having helpful nurses definitely make the day go smoother. Got to remember that we are a team.

Hello 👋🏽! I work as a CNA on Med-Surge at the VA. I work 2nd shift 3:45pm-12:15am
Great video, I’m about to start CNA night shift at a hospital inpatient rehab. It was nice to see a bit of the duties.
That’s awesome! Congratulations and thank you 😊
I hope that you are enjoying Rehabilitation. I didn't enjoy working in that type of specialty..

That is exactly what nurses are told...if its not documented you didn't do it
CYA always. Nobody wants their license to be encumbered.
You do a great job ! I am probably going to take the Med Surg position. So much to learn and so many different types of patients
Great video!
What is the best way remember I & O ? I feel like I didn't learn that much in school about that.
Do you mean calculating it? Or when documenting?
