If anyone plans on becoming a CNA. I suggest you travel after 6 months. That's the only way you're coming up. You can also get your behavior Tech certification. Put it with your CNA and you can work in psychiatry. You can also work as a preoperative Assistant. Helping with surgeries if you plan on becoming a surgical technologist like myself. They make RN money,
I'm sorry the hospital is the most stressful EVER!!!!!! As a former CNA at a hospital and I cried in my car days and days coming in! The RN's are bullies and you don't exist to Dr's or RT ! The rules are stressful if you just want to work and go home NOT possible you will get stuck on MANDATORY meetings after a 12 hour shift! AND IF YOU HAVE KIDS PLEASE NEGLECT THEM AS THE HOSPITAL DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY LIFE AND ONLY THING COMES FIRST IS PATIENT CARE- according to my past employer !
Exactly… went through the exact same thing same issue. Was bullied and harassed out of my job and it seemed like the CNA didn’t have support for anything. How much do they expect one person to actually get done. That’s not proper patient care when your work one CNA to 18 patients
I currently work in the heart and stroke unit as a CNA in the hospital. I took the position thinking it’d be more manageable then my last rehab facility. Boy was I wrong! I have 18 patients and have to do vitals 3x a shift. That’s 54 total. On top of calls lights, assisting and then my totals. I’m going to join an agency soon. The hospital is going to make me a patient soon lol.
Shot I work in a step down icu and I have 24 patients. I know exactly how u feel. I do everything, bathing, peri care, eating , ambulating whatever. I’ll be in one of these beds soon too
Yep 100% right about hospitals providing extra education & certifications! I actually never thought about becoming a CNA until I was offered to take a CNA certification course (for FREE!) at the hospital I was volunteering at in college!

High Bun! I became a CNA in December of 2021 and now work in a nursing home. The things that come with that stress me out (staff, pay etc), but I love love love taking care of people, and the residents that have forgotten their families, remember me, and that's special to me. Makes it all worth it 👌🏿
I was in nursing home with 12 residents it’s was a hell . Now I’m working in a home health care with one client . I’m feel very good with the same paycheck 😜
Once I started working home health I’m never going back to a nursing home. For what!! Home health is laid back, only one client 💃🏾 and you get to care for them very well
I went to CNA school. I'm currently working as a home health aide. 1 on 1 works best for me. I don't like working at facilities, nursing homes, hospitals. I prefer to work with the client alone in his or her home. I really don't like when family is in the home. I love 1 on 1s it's less stressful You don't have to deal with many interactions.
Yeah most of your residents are sleeping at night in a nursing home, but you will have to do rounds several times a night. Most if not all off your residents are incontinent and need frequent incontinent care. You will have 20 plus residents that need to be cleaned during the night. Your residents are heavy or immobile. You will have to put people to bed that the the afternoon shift didn't put to bed for you. You will be short staffed and have a neverending amount of work.
Agreed. I just worked overnight at a nursing home the other day and I had about 3 residents who where night owls and needed constant assistant. I also changed briefs 1-2am. I changed about 10 briefs along with chucks since they were soaked. I only had one resident who soaked all bed linens and blanket. There were many call lights that they couldn’t sleep, were in pain, or confused.
I always say that CNA’s make the best nurses! I was a CNA, ER Tech then became a RN! Great video to make people aware of getting a CNA certification! ☺️ Being a CNA is hard work seriously and we love our CNA’s! ❤️

I worked in a hospital as a pct under my cna. During pandemic it was starting to calm down. I drew blood did ekgs and checked sugars and reported the levels to the nurse. The hospital trained us to do phlebotomy my trainer taught me hands on she as a good trainer. We had to get 15 successful sticks and 5 successful ekgs to get off of orientation. I was in the pool full time I worked all over icu psych detox telemetry med/surg and more. Now I just got hired as pct at a drug and alcohol rehab . Ik it’s gonna be tough working with people that have an addiction. I also have done agency and nursing home on staff. I’ve never did an adult daycare before or home health or hospice
High buns lol but I must tell you that being a CNA at a nursing home is stressful especially on night shift. Most of our residents with dementia stay up for nights at a time and we don't get the respect that we deserve especially when we basically know them like family. No one in the whole facility actually knows the residents like CNAs do. I worked that position for almost 2 years and I love my job and my residents still but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's your calling
Overnight shift at a nursing facility, skilled nursing is not as calm or quiet as some think. We are busy simply because we are dealing with our Sundowners, Fall Risk patients, we do our 6 pm dinners, showers and you have many who don’t sleep call all night, the ones who are on narcotics every 1hr, 3hrs. Also we assist nursing. Some just don’t sleep

Can you talk about how fast foods like wendys bk etc are all paying $15 starting with no degree or certification which makes me think that if your certified as cna or any other study or certification your pay rate should not be $15 starting and should be more since fast food is paying such without any studies.
Totally agree. The way people in this country are paid is ridiculous. I think a fast food worker is eligible for $15 an hour, even a bit more. However, more skilled employees should be making a hell of a lot more. I was a studio manager/photographer at a photography studio all last year. I had no training, no certification, just went to training in another studio for 1 day and I was made manager. I was paid $18 an hour. I was under tremendous stress, alone and should have been paid $25, Minimum. I was pulling in thousands of dollars in that studio, busting my ass marketing it online, going to customers houses to drop off their photos, worked on each lunch and break, and so on. Now that is just as a manager in a little ass studio. CNAS deserve soooo much more than what they're paid. They literally save people's lives, help people, are certified, trained, pay out of pocket for their Training a lot of the time, and are literally breaking their backs, not to mention are extremely stressed. I don't know who makes the rules, but cnas are definitely taken advantage of pay wise, and deserve so much more! They deserve the same amount of respect as an RN, imo. I start my cna training next week, and I'm learning and realizing how much CNAS are undervalued.

People are willing to pay baby sitters 25$ and up to care for one super light tiny infant but CNA who are certified care for up to 20 heavy and total care patients can not even make 20$ an hour in a nursing home…..

CNA's should make $20.00. For all of that physically hard work that they do and the nastiness. To be quite honest CNA work is quite exploitative but we all do what we got to do right? I just wish they paid more and had more benefits and retirement plans. Not everyone is meant to be a RN.

I work as a home health aide I have my CNA and I love the flexibility and just working with one patient yep. I really dislike working in the Nursing home. I don’t see myself working in a nursing home when I become a nurse. I’m thinking about home health pediatrics or the elderly.
Low paying job that you have to work angles to bump up the pay . Run off your feet, treated badly by the nurses, patients, and patients families. Your main job is to toilet the patient, change their diaper, clean them, make sure they are fed throughout your shift and continually run to answer their call lights for anything and everything. Usually caring for 12 patients at a time. You can make similar money in retail.
I got cancer and realized that. I now work part-time at Cracker Barrel retail store. It's way more fun and less stressful. I do miss my residents ,though
I love nursing homes they do not sleep at night idk who told you that but I I’ve the fast paste of it. You know your job it doesn’t get confused such as in hospital rns try to play you into doing all of the work when they get paid 3xs as much as you and they are also responsible for bedside care. The downside to nursing home ls is you don’t have much time for free time but you can rack up more overtime through nursing homes because after 8 hrs ot starts to accumulate hospitals are a mandatory 12 hrs so you don’t get it unless you go over that
Hi Buns! Thanks for the video. My first five years I spent at a nursing home. I'm not sure if I was being hazed, but I was assigned specifically to wipe butts across a 100 patient floor. Mexican night was every Tuesday, and I dreaded those nights. I went through a 100 pack of rubber gloves easy thoose days. I made a lot of OT though!
Night Shift isn’t easy at nursing homes. People stay on the call lights all night, more patients than all shifts, and short staffed. I think people thinking about working in healthcare should work in a hospital first. You learn more and can do more things than the nursing home like EKG’s, blood draws, etc.
I most definitely have worked as a CNA in a nursing home. It was a lot more laid back than a hospital and the environment is a lot more lax than at a hospital. The expectations are to provide ADLs at a nursing home. The expectations in a hospital are a lot more than just that. And also the stress put on customer service doesn’t help either in a hospital
@@beebeeberlucern2464 nursing home is much more lay back but you get WAY to many patients little pay no benefits and minimum wedge, no help on turning those heavy patients. At the hospital the pay is much better, you get benefits, Rns helps you on heavy patients and most importantly at the hospital you get less patients and most of them are continent. You mainly only do vitals signs have one or two total care and the rest is just emptying the urinals catheter and answer call lights. I find the hospital easier and you get more respect and learn more skills like doing bladder scan, do an EKG and do blood sugar test, insert a catheter etc…all these skills s CNA does not do them at a nursing home.
Don’t discourage new cnas from working in ltc I always told them try 11-7 as first preference it’s more laid back like I won’t do any other shift but 11-7 . I’ve worked in a hospital only difference is less back breaking it was days I came home w sore feet n back I was so busy

I'm going to give you a really quick piece of advice. When you get done with your CNA do not start out as a skilled nursing. Skilled nursing can be worse than a hospital is very physically demanding you feel like a chicken running around with your head cut off. I was just starting out at an assisted living facility get in there at your feet wet start to get an idea for what is happening then go to whatever field you want to go to but assisted living is so much easier and it's a little bit easier to learn.

High buns I was a Navy Corpsman in a Naval Hospital, and on a hospital ship for a total of 5 years. I was a CNA in nursing homes for 20 years. Every time I tried to attend nursing school, I got sick. The last time it was cancer. Then Covid hit. I was still working. My cancer is incurable, and they kept trying to get me to work in that section. I quit. I work part-time at Cracker Barrel retail store while I regroup.
Jesus Christ can heal you, and set you free! He is alive today, and he is GOD, he performs miracles! If you don't believe in him and you're willing to, open your heart to him, ask Jesus Christ to forgive you for all your sins and invite him to come inside your heart, and be the Lord over your whole life, including your health! Jesus healed me from so many health problems. What he did for me, he will do for you! Just have faith and believe.
There's no such thing as an incurable disease. You can heal yourself from cancer. Mucus free diet, use herbs to make tinctures. Herbal teas to detox your body. As well as heal you from cancer. You have to stop eating a lot of things.

I have work night shift many a time and I have very little time to study. They end up giving you a stocking jobs where you have to put briefs excetra way. They want you to pass out to the residents with clean. There's always a bunch of residents that are awake at least it most facilities. There's always someone out there keeping you busy with dementia. I love how you make it sound so easy to work the night shift you also have a hard time because during the day like most people would normally sleep you don't get asleep but no one seems to care they call you at all times during the day.
Im a ccma now and omg do I regret it. Program cost vs the pay for an MA is definitely not worth it. I started out at $12/hr at a family practice. At the hospital I work in now I work in lab for about 18.60/hr. I can’t wait to be an RN! Thank you for all the awesome content! 💕
Hi, did you take your MA program at a trade/private school? At my local community college it's only around 3k and I've met an MA who never even went to school. Private small practices definitely pay less than hospitals do. I'd eventually like to do nursing too, I'm leaning more towards an LVN program. Good luck to you in your RN journey.

You're underpaid, and you have to constantly work shortstaffed. 😭 like, I'm only doing this because of the convenience being able to work at night and close to where I live. I’m In Ny and it’s very hard to get hired as a new CNA in a hospital 🏥, they want you to have 1-2 full years of experience. The Nursing homes are always short staffed so they hire new CNA’s all the time. However the agency’s pay 💰 more than the nursing homes. Some agency’s start from 25-30$ per hour to start, and you can make your own schedule, work close to home and the pay is weekly ❤😊

Hey! I wanted to correct you on the lifts for assisted livings. As someone who has been working in one for 10 years. If they're on hospice, they are allowed hospital beds, some communitys allowed any type lifts, and they allowed 2 person assists.

Also you only have to take care of one patient at a time and you get to take your time with them but its Hospice so you know whats going to happen and thats the sad part because you do get attached. Also I travel and I love it. I can work my appointments in during my time and no weekends. Give it a try☺️

The biggest struggle that I am in right now is putting my skills to work while dealing with the hours required for CNA/Phlebotomist/EKG facilities and managing childcare responsibilities. How do you all manage a career in these fields as a mother?
A lot of mothers in this field do not have time for childcare responsibilities. It’s not the best field for it. Home care is best so that you can have a little more free time to call your child etc.
Same here.. CNA couldn’t fit my lifestyle , I had three kids to pay childare for.. but after 10 years I’m back earning my CNA certificate again. My children are grown now . I no longer have to worry about childcare..!!

And I agreed with you assisting living facilities are different I have seen hoyer lifts, total care patients there, I worked at memory care and Alzheimer’s places as a med tech I worked also at the prison.
@@gabrieleward5828 I worked as a certified medication aide we had a clinic inside the prison and we had a pill window where inmates went and took their medication, always an officer there watching over us
I left an assisted living because of that. Most patients were total care like at a nursing home and the beds were just ordinary beds not raising at all, I had to do all that body mechanics on total care patients with a bed not raising at all. I started having back problems after only 2 weeks and left…
@@lovelygirl7123 Yup...you gotta be careful with a lot of those assisted living places. A lot of them are total care. I worked night shift and this place was so short staff they had night shift getting 3 people showers and two people get up. So you had to get up 5 people. Getting 5 ppl up with no supplies like the nursing home is hard. The families don’t bring enough supplies or correct supplies for their family members. No family members should be buying tight clothes and shoes that don’t fit. Then you had to set up the tables and do laundry. I never went back. A lot of assisted livings are harder then the nursing homes and they have their big beds not the hospital beds.

That was my experience as well, Night Shift you get around 18 patients, you have to get 3 to 5 people ready in the morning, set the breakfast table before 5 am, do laundry, most are total care with no lift equipment and the ordinary beds, try moving a dead weight 250 pound patients on an ordinary low bed…and the supplies, my goodness you spend half the time looking for supplies, patients don’t have supplies, no adequate clothes etc not to mention the place was big like castle with 3 levels you have patients on each level, you have to walk a long long long hallway to reach certain rooms, not to mention the low pay…In less than 3 weeks my back was totally hurting me like crazy I just couldn’t continue and left. Oh not to mention how the place was dirty and stinky with lots of insects , worse experience of my life I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody. A nursing home is a million time better…
Nooooo to the nursing home pt to worker ratio is horrible cnas get treated the worse they get paid horrible for all the work they do I love the tips but to make it sound like the nursing home is great is misleading and working nights isn’t that great because half the time the people are not sleeping you have to clean all the stuff that day shift and eve shift didn’t do and don’t forget all the wheel chairs and the showers and get ups you have to do 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
You are very right. I have worked day and night shift. Night shift is easier than day shift but there's definitely no down time. I've tried doing homework/studying lol out of the question...my instructor was right the freaks really do come out at night but if you have a good rhythm during your rounds it's not that bad
In Pennsylvania we can work in drug and alcohol facilities as well . I start that job in a couple weeks I’ve done detox while I worked at the hospital a while back it I was a floater so I wants always in that floor and it might b different at thei new facility

Assisted living = nursing homes without the beds which can raise! No hoyer Lyft. I left after two weeks only. I started having back pain from having heavy total care patients in beds not raising up all that body mechanics on a very low bed started affecting my back and I left after two weeks. At least nursing home have medical beds…then from nursing home I now work at an hospital and going to school for my bsn.
I have worked at a nursing home. You'll be fine you just have to find your rhythm. I personally prefer night shift it's not as stressful as day shifts. I've worked both it's something you don't want to work there for a long period of time because it does wear the body down but it is good to start off with
@@charismagibson12 I’m only doing it for 6 months for my nursing school apps so I’m making sure I take extra care of my body at this time so I don’t wear it down to much. Already three months down lol: It’s been three months of working at my nursing home and at first it was horrible bc of how the veteran cnas treated me. But eventually it got better as I felt confident in myself as a cna and just ignored the drama the 40 yr old cnas were causing. I absolutely love my residents so much and I wouldn’t trade them for the world!

I would do this job for way longer but my body is so exhausted from working 40 hours a week. I think I’ll switch to part time after my 6 months are done but it just depends. Other than that it’s really great. I really do love being a cna and I just know i will love being a nurse. 20 years wow!! you must be so strong emotionally and physically. I’m so attached to my residents they feel like family.

“High Bun”.😂 This is a great over view for general CNA work. In maine we do have sit-to-stands, hoyer lifts, and hospital beds/ bed rails (bed rails less often due to safety concerns- they may no longer be allowed due to many injuries and deaths), as long the client has a doctors order and documented safety plan for those assistive devices. We also have Personal Support Specialists (PSS- Maine certified, unlicensed entry level direct care provider- short version of a CNA), CRMA ( Certified registered medication aid- passes medications, provided medical treatments etc. A maine certified short version med tech). Both of these certifications allow you to work in level 1-3 assisted living facilities, and group home, but are not (generally) accepted at officially designated nursing homes and at hospitals (CRMA cannot be utilized in private care or home care settings).
I guess where you worked is different from where I worm presently. The residents aren't the same. Each time you go for your shift, you get a different resident. In the day, I think 12 max, and in the night, 16. I don't like working in the Nursing Home. The good thing about different patients is that you learn how to handle different situations, but you definitely don't have time to connect with your patients. You gotta disengage real quick. And you cant really learn to see changes in the patients cause you're moving to the next one
I have worked in Home Healthcare and a nursing home as a CNA. The nursing home was always understaffed and out of supplies. It was very taxing on my body.
Hello great information especially for a new CNA. My question is if you can answer this, I know of a CNA that only goes to patient’s house to when they need a specialty service done gets paid for that and then she leaves onto the next client. Do you know what some of these-specialty servicess are? And how much does she likely get paid for doing those specialty services?

Assisted living you do have Incontinent residents and do hands on and do showers. Yes many we do just assist dressing our independent residents living in Assisted Living we don’t naturally because they do the care themselves.

If anyone plans on becoming a CNA. I suggest you travel after 6 months. That's the only way you're coming up. You can also get your behavior Tech certification. Put it with your CNA and you can work in psychiatry. You can also work as a preoperative Assistant. Helping with surgeries if you plan on becoming a surgical technologist like myself. I'm sorry the hospital is the most stressful EVER!!!!!! As a former CNA at a hospital and I cried in my car days and days coming in! The RN's are bullies and you don't exist to Dr's or RT ! The rules are stressful if you just want to work and go home NOT possible you will get stuck on MANDATORY meetings after a 12 hour shift! AND IF YOU HAVE KIDS PLEASE NEGLECT THEM AS THE HOSPITAL DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY LIFE AND ONLY THING COMES FIRST IS PATIENT CARE- according to my past employer !

Exactly… went through the exact same thing same issue. Was bullied and harassed out of my job and it seemed like the CNA didn’t have support for anything. How much do they expect one person to actually get done. That’s not proper patient care when your work one CNA to 18 patients

I currently work in the heart and stroke unit as a CNA in the hospital. I took the position thinking it’d be more manageable then my last rehab facility. Boy was I wrong! I have 18 patients and have to do vitals 3x a shift. That’s 54 total. On top of calls lights, assisting and then my totals. I’m going to join an agency soon. The hospital is going to make me a patient soon lol.

High Bun! I became a CNA in December of 2021 and now work in a nursing home. The things that come with that stress me out (staff, pay etc), but I love love love taking care of people, and the residents that have forgotten their families, remember me, and that's special to me. Makes it all worth it 👌🏿

I went to CNA school. I'm currently working as a home health aide. 1 on 1 works best for me. I don't like working at facilities, nursing homes, hospitals. I prefer to work with the client alone in his or her home. I really don't like when family is in the home. I love 1 on 1s it's less stressful You don't have to deal with many interactions.

Yeah most of your residents are sleeping at night in a nursing home, but you will have to do rounds several times a night. Most if not all off your residents are incontinent and need frequent incontinent care. You will have 20 plus residents that need to be cleaned during the night. Your residents are heavy or immobile. You will have to put people to bed that the the afternoon shift didn't put to bed for you. You will be short staffed and have a neverending amount of work.
You are right, some nursing homes are busy at night. I started the night shift with this in mind but the opposite was the case.
Agreed. I just worked overnight at a nursing home the other day and I had about 3 residents who where night owls and needed constant assistant. I also changed briefs 1-2am. I changed about 10 briefs along with chucks since they were soaked. I only had one resident who soaked all bed linens and blanket. There were many call lights that they couldn’t sleep, were in pain, or confused.
Don't forget the wheelchair list, high fall risk trying to wake up, and the get up list.

I worked in a hospital as a pct under my cna. During pandemic it was starting to calm down. I drew blood did ekgs and checked sugars and reported the levels to the nurse. The hospital trained us to do phlebotomy my trainer taught me hands on she as a good trainer. We had to get 15 successful sticks and 5 successful ekgs to get off of orientation. I was in the pool full time I worked all over icu psych detox telemetry med/surg and more. Now I just got hired as pct at a drug and alcohol rehab . Ik it’s gonna be tough working with people that have an addiction. I also have done agency and nursing home on staff. I’ve never did an adult daycare before or home health or hospice

High buns lol but I must tell you that being a CNA at a nursing home is stressful especially on night shift. Most of our residents with dementia stay up for nights at a time and we don't get the respect that we deserve especially when we basically know them like family. No one in the whole facility actually knows the residents like CNAs do. I worked that position for almost 2 years and I love my job and my residents still but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's your calling
Overnight shift at a nursing facility, skilled nursing is not as calm or quiet as some think. We are busy simply because we are dealing with our Sundowners, Fall Risk patients, we do our 6 pm dinners, showers and you have many who don’t sleep call all night, the ones who are on narcotics every 1hr, 3hrs. Also we assist nursing. Some just don’t sleep

Can you talk about how fast foods like wendys bk etc are all paying $15 starting with no degree or certification which makes me think that if your certified as cna or any other study or certification your pay rate should not be $15 starting and should be more since fast food is paying such without any studies.
Totally agree. The way people in this country are paid is ridiculous. I think a fast food worker is eligible for $15 an hour, even a bit more. However, more skilled employees should be making a hell of a lot more. I was a studio manager/photographer at a photography studio all last year. I had no training, no certification, just went to training in another studio for 1 day and I was made manager. I was paid $18 an hour. I was under tremendous stress, alone and should have been paid $25, Minimum. I was pulling in thousands of dollars in that studio, busting my ass marketing it online, going to customers houses to drop off their photos, worked on each lunch and break, and so on. Now that is just as a manager in a little ass studio. CNAS deserve soooo much more than what they're paid. They literally save people's lives, help people, are certified, trained, pay out of pocket for their Training a lot of the time, and are literally breaking their backs, not to mention are extremely stressed. I don't know who makes the rules, but cnas are definitely taken advantage of pay wise, and deserve so much more! They deserve the same amount of respect as an RN, imo. I start my cna training next week, and I'm learning and realizing how much CNAS are undervalued.

People are willing to pay baby sitters 25$ and up to care for one super light tiny infant but CNA who are certified care for up to 20 heavy and total care patients can not even make 20$ an hour in a nursing home…..

I work as a home health aide I have my CNA and I love the flexibility and just working with one patient yep. I really dislike working in the Nursing home. I don’t see myself working in a nursing home when I become a nurse. I’m thinking about home health pediatrics or the elderly.
The elderly is basically nursing home lol. Unless you are talking about one on one elderly care..
Low paying job that you have to work angles to bump up the pay . Run off your feet, treated badly by the nurses, patients, and patients families. Your main job is to toilet the patient, change their diaper, clean them, make sure they are fed throughout your shift and continually run to answer their call lights for anything and everything. Usually caring for 12 patients at a time. You can make similar money in retail.
You’re forgetting the value of knowledge.
I got cancer and realized that. I now work part-time at Cracker Barrel retail store. It's way more fun and less stressful.

I love nursing homes they do not sleep at night idk who told you that but I I’ve the fast paste of it. You know your job it doesn’t get confused such as in hospital rns try to play you into doing all of the work when they get paid 3xs as much as you and they are also responsible for bedside care. The downside to nursing home ls is you don’t have much time for free time but you can rack up more overtime through nursing homes because after 8 hrs ot starts to accumulate hospitals are a mandatory 12 hrs so you don’t get it unless you go over that
Hi Buns! Thanks for the video. My first five years I spent at a nursing home. I'm not sure if I was being hazed, but I was assigned specifically to wipe butts across a 100 patient floor. Mexican night was every Tuesday, and I dreaded those nights. I went through a 100 pack of rubber gloves easy thoose days. I made a lot of OT though!

Night Shift isn’t easy at nursing homes. People stay on the call lights all night, more patients than all shifts, and short staffed. I think people thinking about working in healthcare should work in a hospital first. You learn more and can do more things than the nursing home like EKG’s, blood draws, etc.

I most definitely have worked as a CNA in a nursing home. It was a lot more laid back than a hospital and the environment is a lot more lax than at a hospital. The expectations are to provide ADLs at a nursing home. The expectations in a hospital are a lot more than just that. And also the stress put on customer service doesn’t help either in a hospital
Like I said don’t go into a nursing home, you will break your back and the work is hard!!
@@beebeeberlucern2464 nursing home is much more lay back but you get WAY to many patients little pay no benefits and minimum wedge, no help on turning those heavy patients. At the hospital the pay is much better, you get benefits, Rns helps you on heavy patients and most importantly at the hospital you get less patients and most of them are continent. You mainly only do vitals signs have one or two total care and the rest is just emptying the urinals catheter and answer call lights. I find the hospital easier and you get more respect and learn more skills like doing bladder scan, do an EKG and do blood sugar test, insert a catheter etc…all these skills s CNA does not do them at a nursing home.

I'm going to give you a really quick piece of advice. When you get done with your CNA do not start out as a skilled nursing. Skilled nursing can be worse than a hospital is very physically demanding you feel like a chicken running around with your head cut off. I was just starting out at an assisted living facility get in there at your feet wet start to get an idea for what is happening then go to whatever field you want to go to but assisted living is so much easier and it's a little bit easier to learn.

I was a Navy Corpsman in a Naval Hospital, and on a hospital ship for a total of 5 years. I was a CNA in nursing homes for 20 years. Every time I tried to attend nursing school, I got sick. The last time it was cancer. Then Covid hit. I was still working. My cancer is incurable, and they kept trying to get me to work in that section. I quit. I work part-time at Cracker Barrel retail store while I regroup.
Jesus Christ can heal you, and set you free! He is alive today, and he is GOD, he performs miracles! If you don't believe in him and you're willing to, open your heart to him, ask Jesus Christ to forgive you for all your sins and invite him to come inside your heart, and be the Lord over your whole life, including your health! Jesus healed me from so many health problems. What he did for me, he will do for you! Just have faith and believe.
There's no such thing as an incurable disease. You can heal yourself from cancer. Mucus free diet, use herbs to make tinctures. Herbal teas to detox your body. As well as heal you from cancer. You have to stop eating a lot of things.

I have work night shift many a time and I have very little time to study. They end up giving you a stocking jobs where you have to put briefs excetra way. They want you to pass out to the residents with clean. There's always a bunch of residents that are awake at least it most facilities. There's always someone out there keeping you busy with dementia. I love how you make it sound so easy to work the night shift you also have a hard time because during the day like most people would normally sleep you don't get asleep but no one seems to care they call you at all times during the day.
Im a ccma now and omg do I regret it. Program cost vs the pay for an MA is definitely not worth it. I started out at $12/hr at a family practice. At the hospital I work in now I work in lab for about 18.60/hr. I can’t wait to be an RN! Thank you for all the awesome content! 💕
Hi, did you take your MA program at a trade/private school? At my local community college it's only around 3k and I've met an MA who never even went to school. Private small practices definitely pay less than hospitals do. I'd eventually like to do nursing too, I'm leaning more towards an LVN program. Good luck to you in your RN journey.

The Nursing homes are always short staffed so they hire new CNA’s all the time. However the agency’s pay 💰 more than the nursing homes. Some agency’s start from 25-30$ per hour to start, and you can make your own schedule, work close to home and the pay is weekly ❤😊

@@gorgousbeatmakeupp1482 Sure NP. I went to NorthShore career training institute, Ronkonkama Long Island. They have CNA, Phlebotomy and EKG. The CNA training is Mon -Thursday 5-10pm. Hey! I wanted to correct you on the lifts for assisted livings. As someone who has been working in one for 10 years. If they're on hospice, they are allowed hospital beds, some communitys allowed any type lifts, and they allowed 2 person assists.
I work as an STNA in nursing homes through agencies and average $19-$24/ hour. Rates are much better working agency or prn than being on staff.

@@LeleeB I work in Hospice and its sad but rewarding. Also you only have to take care of one patient at a time and you get to take your time with them but its Hospice so you know whats going to happen and thats the sad part because you do get attached. Also I travel and I love it. I can work my appointments in during my time and no weekends. Give it a try☺️

Hello :) I am an aspiring CNA/Phlebotomist/EKG healthcare worker. The biggest struggle that I am in right now is putting my skills to work while dealing with the hours required for CNA/Phlebotomist/EKG facilities and managing childcare responsibilities. How do you all manage a career in these fields as a mother?
A lot of mothers in this field do not have time for childcare responsibilities. It’s not the best field for it. Home care is best so that you can have a little more free time to call your child etc.
Same here.. CNA couldn’t fit my lifestyle , I had three kids to pay childare for.. but after 10 years I’m back earning my CNA certificate again. My children are grown now . I no longer have to worry about childcare..!!

And I agreed with you assisting living facilities are different I have seen hoyer lifts, total care patients there, I worked at memory care and Alzheimer’s places as a med tech I worked also at the prison.

I left an assisted living because of that. Most patients were total care like at a nursing home and the beds were just ordinary beds not raising at all, I had to do all that body mechanics on total care patients with a bed not raising at all. I started having back problems after only 2 weeks and left…
@@lovelygirl7123 Yup...you gotta be careful with a lot of those assisted living places. A lot of them are total care. I worked night shift and this place was so short staff they had night shift getting 3 people showers and two people get up. So you had to get up 5 people. Getting 5 ppl up with no supplies like the nursing home is hard. The families don’t bring enough supplies or correct supplies for their family members. No family members should be buying tight clothes and shoes that don’t fit. Then you had to set up the tables and do laundry. I never went back. A lot of assisted livings are harder then the nursing homes and they have their big beds not the hospital beds.

That was my experience as well, Night Shift you get around 18 patients, you have to get 3 to 5 people ready in the morning, set the breakfast table before 5 am, do laundry, most are total care with no lift equipment and the ordinary beds, try moving a dead weight 250 pound patients on an ordinary low bed…and the supplies, my goodness you spend half the time looking for supplies, patients don’t have supplies, no adequate clothes etc not to mention the place was big like castle with 3 levels you have patients on each level, you have to walk a long long long hallway to reach certain rooms, not to mention the low pay…In less than 3 weeks my back was totally hurting me like crazy I just couldn’t continue and left. Oh not to mention how the place was dirty and stinky with lots of insects , worse experience of my life I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody. A nursing home is a million time better…
Nooooo to the nursing home pt to worker ratio is horrible cnas get treated the worse they get paid horrible for all the work they do I love the tips but to make it sound like the nursing home is great is misleading and working nights isn’t that great because half the time the people are not sleeping you have to clean all the stuff that day shift and eve shift didn’t do and don’t forget all the wheel chairs and the showers and get ups you have to do 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
You are very right. I have worked day and night shift. Night shift is easier than day shift but there's definitely no down time. I've tried doing homework/studying lol out of the question...my instructor was right the freaks really do come out at night but if you have a good rhythm during your rounds it's not that bad

In Pennsylvania we can work in drug and alcohol facilities as well . I start that job in a couple weeks I’ve done detox while I worked at the hospital a while back it I was a floater so I wants always in that floor and it might b different at thei new facility

Assisted living = nursing homes without the beds which can raise! No hoyer Lyft. I left after two weeks only. I started having back pain from having heavy total care patients in beds not raising up all that body mechanics on a very low bed started affecting my back and I left after two weeks. At least nursing home have medical beds…then from nursing home I now work at an hospital and going to school for my bsn.

I have worked at a nursing home. You'll be fine you just have to find your rhythm. I personally prefer night shift it's not as stressful as day shifts. I've worked both it's something you don't want to work there for a long period of time because it does wear the body down but it is good to start off with

@@charismagibson12 I’m only doing it for 6 months for my nursing school apps so I’m making sure I take extra care of my body at this time so I don’t wear it down to much. Already three months down lol: It’s been three months of working at my nursing home and at first it was horrible bc of how the veteran cnas treated me. But eventually it got better as I felt confident in myself as a cna and just ignored the drama the 40 yr old cnas were causing. I absolutely love my residents so much and I wouldn’t trade them for the world!

It’s not so bad I only have to do this for a few more months to get extra points on my nursing school apps. This job is really hard on the body and mind. I would do this job for way longer but my body is so exhausted from working 40 hours a week. I think I’ll switch to part time after my 6 months are done but it just depends. Other than that it’s really great. I really do love being a cna and I just know i will love being a nurse. 20 years wow!! you must be so strong emotionally and physically. I’m so attached to my residents they feel like family.

This is a great over view for general CNA work.
In maine we do have sit-to-stands, hoyer lifts, and hospital beds/ bed rails (bed rails less often due to safety concerns- they may no longer be allowed due to many injuries and deaths), as long the client has a doctors order and documented safety plan for those assistive devices.
We also have Personal Support Specialists (PSS- Maine certified, unlicensed entry level direct care provider- short version of a CNA), CRMA ( Certified registered medication aid- passes medications, provided medical treatments etc. A maine certified short version med tech). Both of these certifications allow you to work in level 1-3 assisted living facilities, and group home, but are not (generally) accepted at officially designated nursing homes and at hospitals (CRMA cannot be utilized in private care or home care settings).

I guess where you worked is different from where I worm presently. The residents aren't the same. Each time you go for your shift, you get a different resident. In the day, I think 12 max, and in the night, 16. I don't like working in the Nursing Home. The good thing about different patients is that you learn how to handle different situations, but you definitely don't have time to connect with your patients. You gotta disengage real quick. And you cant really learn to see changes in the patients cause you're moving to the next one

Hello great information especially for a new CNA. My question is if you can answer this, I know of a CNA that only goes to patient’s house to when they need a specialty service done gets paid for that and then she leaves onto the next client. Do you know what some of these-specialty servicess are? And how much does she likely get paid for doing those specialty services?

Assisted living you do have Incontinent residents and do hands on and do showers. Yes many we do just assist dressing our independent residents living in Assisted Living we don’t naturally because they do the care themselves.
