If it's a trigger horn, there are a couple of other things to look at: ergonomics of the trigger, balance of the horn (nose- or tail-heavy), freeness or tightness of the trigger section relative to the straight section, ability to pull to E.
I never really thought about it but now that you say it, I have a cheap $200 basic small bore tenor that I mess around on every once in awhile and I do seem to get fatigued on it much quicker than my professional horn.
Please do! I've been blowing through a Vincent Bach 12C all year. I love it, but I've noticed that almost no professional trombonists use a 12C. Been itching to shop around.
Don't buy your horn from Amazon; stick with something you can try in person, or at least return easily. The Yamaha YSL-354 is sort of the gold standard of beginner trombones, and can be had used easily for less than $400. Likewise for the Bach TB-300, the King 606, etc. If you're spending more than $1000 for a beginner horn, it'd better be a rent-to-own sort of situation where you want an extended amount of time on the instrument before buying.
yeah too chep, i use a Jupiter JTB-1150FO for both jazz and concert bands, I think the sound is okay when playing jazz, but It's more of a concert horn, but i prefer peashooters in jazz. Mine was about $1,900.
You might be able to find a good used $400 trigger horn: I've been able to purchase a Yamaha 356R, a Besson 10-10, and and Olds Recording w/F from eBay for about that. I've seen several used King 607Fs there for about that as well. You're not likely to find a Bach 36/42 for that price, nor a Yamaha Xeno, nor one of the more boutique manufacturers, like Shires, Edwards, or Rath. If it's $400 new, stay away: it's likely of low quality, and you won't be able to test it thoroughly enough. Another note, your $400 used horn will likely need another $100-150 or so for a good ultrasonic cleaning and valve adjustment.

I got a trombone for around $250. Nothing really nice or bad, I just needed something that I can go rough on without worrying about damaging it
how to find mouthpiece that's good for you?
Pop great topic! I will have to do a video on that, stay tuned and thanks for watching!

Is buying a trombone off amazon for roughly $100-200 worth it or no? and if not where can I order a good beginner/intermediate trombone?
I.am.trash gear for music is a good website
Woodwind brasswind.com, a Yamaha or bach beginner bone
Never buy instruments on amazon. They usually come with a few flaws and such. Put your trust in music retail stores such as allegro.
Also a good trombone should cost about 2000 dollars...
