Chevy Venture Turn Signal Problems Solved

  • For a long time I've chased random turn signal problems with my old Chevy Venture van. Sometimes they would flash fast. Or some lights would work and others wouldn't. Or they would just not work at all. After doing everything you would traditional do to repair turn signal problems, and not resolving the problem I learned that turn signalling wasn't as simple as it used to be. Hopefully this time the repair will be permanent.

Thanks so much for this, I was ready to start testing all the wires in my left turn signal circuit, then I found this video, replaced the module, and it solved the problem perfectly!

+ 1 on the module relay. Thanks!
The brake light bulb contacts are very unreliable too.

Thanks. I have a Pontiac Montana, which is the same van, and occasionally I get the fast-flash as if a bulb is blown where I presume it isn’t alternating with the side marker. For some reason almost everything seems to be drawing too many amps and cooking itself in this van… like the relays in the BCM for the using the fob to unlock the doors… and pretty much every bulb socket is cooked. As for the sockets, I don’t just mean the ones that crumble to bits because the plastic is yellowed and brittle. I couldn’t even remove the tail light bulbs without ripping them apart. There’s something weird going on with these things.
Months ago I replaced my headlight and marker light housings and the sockets on both sides crumbled. I ordered replacements but misplaced my crimp tool so I had to drive around with them taped into the housing for a few months. The tape on one side didn’t hold but on the side that held you could see that the housing was already hazing over from the heat. On the side that didn’t hold, the bulb melted the plastic it was touching but that left a vent so it did not overheat the housing lens. The fact that they are too hot for their enclosure tells me something isn’t right. Maybe I can find some cooler-running LEDs.

Thank you Sir for all the investigative work, my 2002 Venture Driver side DRL and the turn signal was acting up, socket was burnt so after replacing it ( tried 3 new sockets from $14 to $70, stuck with the $14 one) and still did not solve the problem, saw your video, tried buying the Relay Module online and the part is no longer made, used ones were about $90 and would not be able to return them, I went to a local Junk Yard and got two Modules for $7 each from two old vans, just a note the last four numbers of the module are different depending on the year it was made, so the numbers after the dash will not match, just the 10304215 will match, I also did not attempt to un-clip the modules from the junk vans just cut the cords about 3 inches above, that way I could easily see how to unplug the two connections without ruining mine, overall once I got the modules it took about 10 minutes to switch it and Viola! got a functioning DRL and turn signal, thank you again and stay safe!

i purchased a LED compatible flasher and I replaced all my directional, running lights, and brake lights with LED’s.
also, those problematic back bulb socket module can be made more rigid by putting zip ties around each bulb socket. After zip tying the neck of the socket, the bulb stays in much more snug and with a more reliable connection. being LED’s draw less current, this method will prevent those circuit boards from heating up

her are the 3 purchases i made to secure up the problematic lights on a venture
the 4 bright red led bulbs are bright.
i believe this is the flasher - please check as it was a while ago
the front sockets can be installed with no wire cutting. press the tabs in on the sides, and the center bulb holder pulls out, then the wires pull out, and you can put them into the new sockets. the sockets usually leak water, and do not hold in the assembly. with yellow led bulbs, they will not melt the sockets anymore.

Nice job tracking down the culprit steve! That's an annoying problem for sure. That van is rocking 307k, you got your money's worth brother 😂. Run her into the ground then get something else. I'll take tinkering around a little on a car before I add a car note to my bills. Heck of a find on the p/s pump! Cant wait to see some footage of that install.

I figure at this point every mile i put on that van is money in the bank, I hate car payments. I about fell over when I found that pump, the guy charged me $30 and told me he wouldn't charge me the core since their core bin was overflowing as it was lol. I'll work on getting it all cleaned up sometime this summer, I have a lot going on this time of year.

I've heard a lot of these don't live much past 120k with their unusual coolant/gasket issue.

I had a problem with the right front turn signal not working at all. Wound up basically bypassing the module to get it to work. Now that I have located several Venture vans in a salvage yard fairly close by, once I get the engine replaced I plan to see about replacing the module AND getting a spare!

Please add keywords for Pontiac Montana, Trans Sport, and Oldsmobile Silhouette. They are all the same van with the same issue. I suspect Pontiac Aztec would too, since there is a lot shared between them (same platform/engine).

Is it easy to take the module apart without taking all the trim parts you removed?

  • @insurancedice

Can you please clarify: did the front marker lights not work on both sides before you changed the module, or was it on just one side?

    • @SteveStoltz
      @SteveStoltz  3 місяці тому

      It was just one side.

    • @insurancedice

@@SteveStoltz thank you. I got into the wiring harness and found that there are separate cable runs. My Venture has some front end damage so I wanted to rule out pinched wires. I suspect the separate wires go all the way back to the module, which I bet can fail in such a way to just effect one side. (I also have issues with just one side.)
