The original creator of the Crow comics was on set of the Alex Proyas Crow film and gave his blessings. He was also close friends with actor Brandon Lee.
I was unfortunately dragged to the cinema by a mate who was too curious about how dreadful this would be. The film was shockingly bad and deserves all of the criticism it's getting. You can tell that the people involved fundamentally didn't understand the source material. And yes, I get that the Brandon Lee version takes some liberties, but the tone and intention behind it was very respectful. The OG still holds up imo, but this 2024 version is so fcking souless mate.
They should have just released the original back in theaters to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Kinda funny how this was made 30 years after the original.
Proyas said in an interview DarkCity was filmed in 96 but the studio shelved it. Then one of the producers, who was working on the development of The Matrix, showed it to the Wachowski’s without Proyas’s permission. Guess what happened…
I say if you want to make a CROW movie, do NOT use Eric and Shelly. Make new characters and a new story. Rather anybody likes or dislikes the CROW movies made after the original, at least they used new characters.
Thank you SO much for crapping on to those morons on social media who think they are master film makers or something. You said what I always thought; people who criticize everything rarely - or most probably never - created anything by themselves.

I love Alex Proyas. Like him I’ve been against the remake/reboot since 2008. The og is a movie that’s not for everyone some love it others are just like it’s ok which is fine. Personally it’s in my top 10 favorites of all time literally grew up watching it since I was 5. It’s a special movie for me that resonated with which is the beauty of films when done right and sincere. I don’t need to see the 2024 movie to know that it’s a soulless cash grab with no heart and made for the Gen Z with imagery problems generation.
The Crow was just one of those films that came along at the right time and people connected with it. Being a bit cynical but it probably wouldn't have blown up the way it did without the attention being about Brandon's death at the time. But ultimately it holds up to repeat viewings, it's a good story told well. That's what most remakes miss. Get the story compelling and the money will follow.

To be fair I don't even watch new films, because all you get is disappointment where is all the imagination from the 80/90's whatever drugs they were giving them back then get them back and create something original.
Alex Proyas made both The Crow and Dark City.... These two movies alone have been two of the most stylistically influential films of the last 30 or so years...
Brandons mom wanted it released in the first place and I gaurentee you, if they remastered the OG 1994 version (Ie. Fix the Cgi hand in the Funboy scene) and re-release it.. It would 100% make more money
Alex Proyas was very good friends with Brandon Lee and James O'Barr so I definitely stand behind him for the comments on the recent adaptation (that's too nice a word for this one)
I am glad your reviews and others saved me money. I knew it wouldn't be comparable to the original but they did act as if it'd have good action scenes like John Wick. Reviewers said it had terrible pacing and he didn't become crow til almost 1hr 20 mins in. And said action of the film was last 15mins and underwhelming because it showed anything worth watching in trailers. That turned me off from going to see it.
This summer is a joke at the cinemas. at least last year we had movies like, Mission Impossible 7, Oppenheimer, Equalizer 3. This year there was nothing to be excited about, apart from alien Romulus maybe , but we all know how that movie turned out. Bland, lazy and forgettable movies this summer.
I was having great experiences prior to the summer. June hit and everything went down hill. It's become a dumping ground for Nostalgia & cheap imitations of things from the past.
I agree with you!!! This year has been bad for movies. Oppenheimer, Equalizer 3, Saw X, and mission possible were really good. When evil lurks and anyone but you were enjoyable too.
🤷🏽♂️ have they adapted the comic panel for panels it would not have only been a respectful homage to Brandon‘s version, but also been bad ass in of itself. The comic is pretty great with scenes that weren’t in the original movie. I vividly recall the crow walking up steps, and then shooting through the wall to a guy who is hiding behind, blowing his brains out
I understand why Alex Proyas is being so hard on this movie. In an interview, he said they had finished the movie after Brandon Lee had died because of Brandon Lee himself. He hated the idea that the 2024 version was going to use the character of Eric Draven. The sequels to the 1994 movie were inspired by the comic books and first movie and didn't use the same characters as the original movie, that's why fans and Proyas didn't have much to say about the sequels. This time it's different. Proyas is right, imo, and so are the fans.
'They' (EVERY SINGLE PERSON who decided to make this POS) DESERVE all of this for disrespecting Brandon Lee's legacy like this. The remake's director, producer, screenwriter, and to an extent the actors involved are responsible for this and they ALL did it for a quick buck. The people have spoken. 🖕
I consider myself to be a BIG fan I could see the BS a mile away Sad cuz I got some pretty good idea for the story but I can't say them out loud let alone here😂😂😂
1/10 film, doesn’t even feel like a crow movie till the last 20 minutes of the film. There’s only 2 good sound tracks and it’s at the very end of the film which is before opera and after the opera scene.
That's what I've heard the movie takes too long to get to him being the actual Crow. Instead they want to focus on the love story. If the love story part was good I might be interested but I hate it when he's wait till the last 15 minutes for the good shit. You really need to sprinkle that shit throughout.
I heard only opera scene was good and that he didn't even become the crow with powers til third act. People told me it was very bad pacing, poor characters, and boring.
They changed the characters and the story so drastically I just don't understand why they had to use Eric and Shelly and not just name some new characters all together. Even still, it would be trash if they did
Although it would've been best if they didn't make a remake at all, They probably would've been better off depicting "The Crow: Wild Justice" since Scarsguard look mostly resmbelled that crow character specifically. It would also explain that "Kronos" character since his story is fleshed out a bit there while also detailing why crows resurrect people. What also gets me is that it was also another missed opportunity to show the Skull Cowboy that was originally from the special edition of the original comic with Eric Draven. There was also footage recorded that can be found on UA-cam of the actual skull cowboy scenes that didn't make the final cut of the 94 film that could've been utilized for the new one. Unfortunately, it's just too many incompetent people running hollywood that only care about money & pushing stupid agendas, I guess. 🤦♂️
Keep the part at the beginning with the horse. Remove EVERYTHING between that and the scene where they pull the blonde woman out of the river. that makes it better already. Unfortunately, you can't salvage the ending...
Not only was "The Crow" remake/reboot a blatant cash grab and disrespectful to the legacy of the original film and Brandon Lee, "The Crow" remake was an awful movie. I would say it's one of the two worst movies of the year (the other being "Madame Web") The dialogue was horrible and the acting even worse, especially from FKA Twigs.
It would probably have been seen as an ok to good movie if it was not connected to the comics and the previous movie. Just make an action movie if that is what you want to make. Do not make a bad remake. Are we really so out of ideas that we continually have to make remakes of everything?
😂. Maybe the movie appeals to females because I heard the Love story takes a long time to build. Men are more interested in action but I heard that doesn't happen till the ending.. if the movie was full of action then I'd be more interested.
I've never watched a movie just angry the whole time. Like I can get over the look of the crow but bad execution. All they had to do was keep it simple. Tragedy strikes and all out revenge until the end. The character is designed so you can move the film and still keep Shelly relevant. The action was ALRIGHT I guess but I was like they took notes from everything but the original film. The 90s series holds up next to this nonsense
Yeah its been out for a week now. We dont need these shit content creators going over the same shit and telling us how bad it is. Whats bad is how many podcasts and people wanting to make channels doesnt go well anymore.
Ah yes Alex Proyas the toxic director who gets butt hurt whenever the critics trash his most recent movies and goes online to cry about it. Brandon Lee I respect Alex Proyas I don’t.
Im going to say the quiet part out loud. The original crow wasn’t good either. Brandon Lee was just a great actor and his death made the movie succeed.
I'm not the biggest Crow fan myself and I partially agree with you... but I will say the original has a clear creative vision & Brandon Lee is memorable in the role, the remake had none of that
It had great fighting scenes and meaningful characters that were likeable. You felt emotionally connected to Eric, Ernie Hudson, the darkness in the town, and the little girl. These characters were trashy and the love story and redemption weren't believable like how we felt sorry for the original couple and felt the grief over their violent deaths & true love.
We know nothing about Brandon or Shelly. No character back story. Just great dialogue. The plot was predictable. I will say this. In the new movie. They should have gave Eric more personality. I like that they didn’t try to do a complete remake. Had they spent more time developing character and given bits of backstory the new could have been good. Original 60/100. New 45/100.
