I will give the new film a little credit, it does look good, like its shot well and looks decent but id trade in a good looking fim for a film with a style in mind like the OG crow any day of the week. Also whats with this need to make eric and shelly these "broken and misunderstood criminals of circumstance" that hollywood likes trying to keep perpetuating, the great sadness about the original crow is that Eric and Shelly were good people that had friends they looked out for and who wanted to start a family, they were nice people but not overtly, they were nice people but in a realistic way and they absolutely did not deserve to have what happened to them happen, its why i always feel a rush of catharsis when we watch that scene of him becoming the crow and i just love it when he punches that mirror, so good, shattering his old self to set right the wrong. But the modern pair were like "we are drug addicts and petty criminals but you can't judge us cause we had a hard life" which is annoying as all hell
Bill looks like he wants to just melt into the ground during that red carpet interview. I don't think I've ever seen him that empty, even after Hemlock Grove.
I don't think Bill honestly cared. I think that was just him doing his best to stay detached as to not let his disgust show. He probably hated doing the crow, but it was a free paycheck so might as well, since Bill's career is slowing down last i heard
I dont think not many people know this but Bill has always been the 2nd or 3rd choice when it comes to films. He wasnt the first choice to play Pennywise either. Also for the Crow he was the last resort, the only guy to give it a shot. Even Alex his brother declined the role. That explains Bill's lack of interest on the red carpet lol
The hate this movie - and Bill - have been getting since they released the trailer is probably really difficult for him, and he's maybe not even happy with the final result...I don't think he doesn't care and did it for the money, in interviews he said he was a fan of the OG movie and was happy to bring the story to a new generation, he must feel terrible

I think they should have just remastered the original and maybe updated some CGI. They could have released it as a 30-year anniversary, and maybe they could have included you know the interviews and stuff at the credits. I'd say that in theaters in a heartbeat.
They actually did that earlier this year for 2 nights. It was so awesome to see it in theaters when i was too young to do it when it came out. They had interviews, and showed some behind the scenes stuff. It was sad to see the poster for this one as i walked out of the theater. Sorry you missed it internet friend

I think the Crow, should have a shot to be an animated series. For the reason that,Brandon Lee was so iconic, that he was irreplaceable. With animation however, people can trace back to his origin without complaining that it ain't nostalgic.
Sanders sacrificed nothing for this movie, whereas the original’s team gave everything. Incidentally, that scene with Brandon just tearing thru that guitar solo is one of the reasons I started playing guitar 🤘🏽
If you think about it, there are demons that exist in our world, in our lives, and you wouldn’t know they were there until they made themselves known to you. The things we consider make believe is sometimes, just sometimes, as real as we believe Heaven and Hell to be.
I just wanna leave a comment saying I think it was extremely disrespectful to Brandon Lee to remake the movie. and extremely disrespectful to James O'Barr and his late wife that was the inspiration for The Crow R.I.P
This has *nothing* to do with The Crow - Graphic Novel or 94 film. I'm so glad just seeing the early images let me know I wouldn't like it - hearing the synopsis simply solidifies that this story I have loved for almost 40 years should have been left alone.
Not shocked but relieved that people hated this. Honestly what were the filmmakers expecting? There are movies that are untouchable. The Crow was one of them. Funny thing. The original wasnt anticipating to be a "box office" smash. They just made a good action movie. Turned out to be an amazing classic.
This is an insult to Corpse Bride. In fact, I bet Tim Burton (director) and Danny Elfman (composer) could make a beautiful and compelling adaptation of this story! I'd totally love to see that!
When I first looked at the trailer for the crow remake, i thought "this looks like emo, post maloney drivel" well turns out i was right. Brandon lee is rolling in his grave RIP.
The big mistake was to put his love interest in the movie. The first movie was all about the idea of his love and how it gave him courage and strength to do what he needed to be done. By not knowing who she is as a person, it made it that you had no way of disliking her because you saw her thu his eyes. In this movie, the lover is annoying and not very likable, so you dont understand why he is fighting so hard to save her.
7:54 Brandon’s The Crow is my favourite movie so I won’t be seeing this mess. I am surprised no one is mentioning The Crow tv series which I really enjoyed. Some of this movie’s changes to the lore are a reflection of that show
My favourite film of all time also and the tv show was ment to be closer to what the 2rd and 3rd film would of been had Lee lived but I refuse to watch this mess but I enjoy people shitting all over it lol 🐦⬛
One thing this adaptation seems to be missing, is a spark of madness. In the first film and in the original comic, the villains made sure to produce anarchy and destruction. From Tin Tin to Top Dollar.
why do people always say remakes are failures i admit NOT all remakes are well "better than the original but this is one of my favs and i think it was well done
Hollywood, repeat after me. "If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT." Seems as soon as Cats was released they've been releasing one bad movie and show after another.
THE Silver Lining in all of this is in the RENEWED interest in the original and in Brandon Lee himself. It does my heart good knowing Alex Proyas's INCREDIBLE adaptation is in the top 5 of Action/Fantasy films streaming right now. Thanks to a STRONG ensemble cast and masterful dialogue, I could NEVER tire of this film.🖤
Dude you should make a "top ten worst movies of 2024" at the end of this year. And if that catches on you should do one every year. I look forward to that if any. Maybe do a tv show version if that catches on
Remakes for the most part generally don’t bother me, but I’ve never been a big fan of people trying to remake The Crow for all the reasons you said. I really wasn’t crazy when the photos started coming out, I didn’t like the look of things and then when I watched the trailer, I just couldn’t imagine how in any world this movie could be good. It looked so soulless to me and the original Crow is so full of heart, soul, and feeling that this remake felt even more egregious than they can be. I haven’t seen it and I don’t plan on it, I appreciate the video.
Well said and fully agree, especially with The Crow being full of heart, soul and feeling. It has a rare energy and depth that is captivating, and Brandon Lee brought a unique and irreplaceable presence to it. He made that role his and, out of respect for him, it should have been left alone.
I'm all for a differing take on a story. The 1994 film departed quite a bit from the original comic itself. Its characters, flow, setting (visually), and over all feel were VERY different. The journey through each were like reading a darker Hemmingway story (comic) vs. Edgar Allen Poe (1994 film). The attachment you feel to Eric and his mission feels very different in each And you walk away from each feeling a very different sort of finality. BOTH were successful in conveying what they set out to do, and neither leaves you saying, "Wait, what?" I think you say it perfectly. The strengths and incredible beauty of the comic and the 1994 film are completely absent in this new take. It completely missed connecting with either, and it presents nothing new that either adds to the franchise or honors it. It was not with nostalgia but with honest intrigue that I viewed this 2024 telling. I think the source material is presented in such a way that it could still be taken successfully and most artfully in a number of novel directions. This one, however, was not one of them. In its attempt to be edgy and modern, it was simply unsympathetic and gratuitously violent. Its moral and aesthetic was completely lost.
I was telling my girlfriend last night when we were talking about this movie, which we have not seen and have no desire to see, that Eric and Shelly from the original movie were good people. These two seem like people that would be hanging out on their bikes outside of a gas station trying to sell you their SoundCloud music on a burnt CD and asking you for cigarette money.
We really need a Borderlands/Crow crossover. A movie so horrifically bad the entire fabric of reality collapses in upon itself, and Rupert Sanders can't make any more films.
Naming the characters Eric & Shelly tied it to the 1994 movie… ugh. I view Eric, Shelly, Sarah, and officer Albrecht as beacons of light in a shitstorm of a city. With these characters I don’t buy their romance… comes off more as a Romeo & Juliet. Also get a feeling that 2024 everyone is selfish (1994 Shelly fights for the tenants or their building and Eric basically saves Sarah & Darla). As I have zero interest I’ll take what you said about the ending as fact that they end up resurrected when all is done. Wtf! With the comic and 1994 movie you’re griped with the dual feeling that justice was served but at a cost of everything.
I honestly felt more for the Shelley character in the 2 minutes or less we got on screen of her in flashbacks in the 1994 version then I did this entire film. They had no chemistry. They turned her into a junkie. The music was horrible. Missed a perfect chance to use a band like HIM, VV, or Ghost. They really missed the mark with this. Unfortunately we probably won't ever get one again.... What am I saying at this rate of them remaking everything we'll have one in another 5-10 years.
I was hoping this movie would be good, but I won’t waste my money on it. I will watch it in the future, but once it’s free somewhere. It’s been many years since I watched The Crow from 1994, but one thing I always remembered was how Eric’s relationship with Shelly impacted him as the Crow. Her absence in his “life” and the injustice of their murders. Also, Eric’s emotional struggles, how he deals with the loss of Shelly and who he is after her death and his resurrection. These struggles, at least to me, are what made the movie from 1994 more “alive” and memorable. Combined with Brandon Lee’s performance, it was art. They totally trashed what makes Eric and Shelly’s story special, and the motivator for Eric’s return. If it was up to me, this is how the story would go: I would totally make Eric a flawed person, that struggles with his own past demons (be it from childhood that was bad, or some event that shaped him). But once he meets Shelly, everything changes. In my story, Shelly is the paragon of light in Eric’s life, helping him heal from his issues and make him become a better person, that can see the good in people, even if the world is falling apart around them, while creating this beautiful relationship between them. Both Eric and Shelly bring something that is missing in each other lives. Once someone finds a love like that, they feel like it’s forever, that nothing will tear them apart. In my mind, Eric would feel this way towards his relationship with Shelly. But because Shelly is the paragon of light, this would attract the opposite in their lives, leading to their murders. Once Eric returns from the dead, and knows that their killers are still free because of the police corruption, he knows why he is back to deliver justice/revenge to those that murdered him and Shelly. During his journey to seek revenge, Eric could struggle with his grief for Shelly, clouding how he should deliver his revenge. For example, should all those involved in the murder die, or some of them deserve redemption? Shelly’s influence on Eric could also bring "problems" to Eric, because he wants revenge, but Shelly always believed that some people deserved second chances, redemption, so Eric finds himself “trying to understand” who deserves what kind of justice/revenge, because he still wants to make Shelly proud of him, even in death. Eric could also go through the stages of grief: Denial of what happened to him and Shelly, anger towards himself for failing to protect Shelly, bargaining for Shelly’s soul that she’ll be able to come back to life (which she doesn’t because she’s dead and her soul moved on), depression leading him to lose himself in his quest for revenge where he “figures it out” that not everyone involved in their murders deserves the same fate (which I would totally make some of them being forced to be there at Eric and Shelly's murders), and acceptance of what happened to him and Shelly. This could lead to the same conclusion of the movie from 1994 and graphic novel, with Eric and Shelly’s souls reuniting in the afterlife, or could go the other way, with Eric accepting his soul might not be with Shelly’s. I know my take might not be as good, but in my mind, they could have done something to at least make the relationship between Eric and Shelly believable. For what I have seen in many videos reviewing this movie, this new The Crow movie seems to forget that Eric is a guy in grief, that lost the love of his life. But the relationship with Shelly is so bland in this movie that it doesn’t even make sense for him to return at all.
And I was going to watch this film too 😮 you saved me alot of time with this, it’s just a shame Hollywood are still ruining great gothic films for money. I’ve seen the crow movie we appreciate it’s tone and presentation as well as resurrection definitely with watch it instead of the remake.

The funny thing is that the game play in Dmc was as solid as ever and the level design was actually pretty imaginative, but yeah, the writing was fairly abysmal, even by video game standards. The original Dante somehow managed to avoid seeming overly cringy despite being camp as hell.
Goth Wick? God that was awesome! The horse and barbed wire at the beginning is a call back to the comic. It represented her death with each barbed wire strand representing those that murdered them. It s lost in the film.
Oooh, this is the spiciest review i have seen on the channel! Im glad to see you put together solid arguments/gripes in a coherent manner that anyone (even people unfamiliar with the 90's movie) can grasp. This new age of shitting all over the original authors work and "re-imagining" is getting old.
This remake is just sad. It could never get close to the original. I remember when The Crow came to theaters. I must have went to the theater five or six times to watch it. I just couldn't get enough. The Crow is one of the few movies that came back to the theater here, due to popular demand. Now, watching the Crow is a tradition. I watch it each year at Halloween. RIP Brandon! It is a shame you couldn't see what would be the masterpiece of The Crow.
Brandon Lee was so convincing, in part, because he was physically more able to handle the role. As said in this review, this version relies on his immortality. Brandon Lee's character was simply a badass. Lee was skilled physically to make it look like he could win the confrontations whether he was immortal or not. In the first vengeance murder when he kills Tin Tin he didn't even need to be immortal. He literally deflected and caught the knives without even being touched. Of course it was fake but Lee and his stunt doubles moved in a way to make it seem like he was just vicious with or without being immortal.
Any adaptation of James O’Barr’s The Crow after the first film in the 90s starring Brandon Lee are soulless, cash-grab dumpster fires. The Crow was a deeply personal and emotional work of art for O’Barr. The fact that Brandon Lee unfortunately passed away while filming the movie sent him into a depression. There simply is no other way of putting it.
In defense of The Crow: City of Angels, they _did_ try to make a different story (with the blessing of O’Barr). But then Harvey Weinstein interfered and forced reshoots and made them cut a LOT of scenes that ruined the continuity of the movie. There’s an unofficial director’s cut floating around somewhere, but I’ve only seen short clips of it.
I really tried with this one. I tried to watch it on its own merit, without comparing it to the original. Even then, it's just a slow, boring slog. I couldn't find a reason to care about Eric or Shelley. The bad guys were just dull and flat. Ignoring the original Crow this is just a bad movie. In a word, it's forgettable. And when you do compare it to the original it's even worse.
I LOVE bill skaarsgard…. Hes a great actor and so funny too…. I really had high hopes that they would do this movie justice and create an homage to the crow and Brandon Lee. I’m an early 80s kid and this was my movie and music soundtrack to life. I hold it in the HIGHEST regard…. I’m actually bummed to hear the movie sucks… but am I surprised? No…. You don’t re create perfection.
I started laughing every time you said “Goth Wick”😂 Nice touch! This movie remake really seems like something that came from the mind of a depressed emo teen. I am glad you are covering it so I don’t have to sit through the movie in boredom.
The Eric of the comic and '94 movie are fuelled by revenge, but his humanity still shines through, both in the flashbacks to his time with Shelly, and his interactions with Sarah (or Ellie in the comic) and Albrecht. Being brought back doesn't take away his heart. The reimagined Eric barely comes across as more than a walking plot device from the second he appears on screen. We don't get any real sense of his drive and passion or what his beliefs are. He's a lumbering gollum whose only purpose is to follow Shelly around for 40 minutes of toxic codependency before he spends the whole second act moping about and getting beat up. Like a lot. By the time the finale rolls round, there is nothing to root for. His purpose has again been to be a tool for Shellys benefit. All the agency in his the original character has been stripped away.
I think we can all agree it's safe to say that this new so-called movie The Crew-oops, sorry, I meant The Crow🤣-is just a high-budget ad to make you go watch the original 1994 classic masterpiece The Crow.
Tbf, the dead horse stuck in barbed wire was a thing in the comic too (at least the new edition of it, with added segments). It wasn't framed as childhood trauma though, so there's that
I'll say this, because I'm sick of the bias comments and reviews. THE SOURCE MATERIAL FOR THIS FILM IS THE NOVEL, NOT THE COMICS. Stop thinking it is. O'barr even worked on this and stated it was based on his novel. That being said, it was still horrible. He could of used any other crows such as Josh, for this versions Crow. I know he wanted to stay in line with his novel using Eric and Shelly, but thats the reason his novel failed as well.

That's what made me buy the vinyl at the time and keep with me. RIP Brandon
Well said
It was easy to make, basically make the same movie, change couple of little bits, but don’t just change absolutely everything that made the original so god, modernise, don’t butcher god dammit! 😂
Hey...I liked hemlock grove it was a decent show lol
I don't think Bill honestly cared. I think that was just him doing his best to stay detached as to not let his disgust show. He probably hated doing the crow, but it was a free paycheck so might as well, since Bill's career is slowing down last i heard
@@XeroFailGames Hemlock Grove was great
I dont think not many people know this but Bill has always been the 2nd or 3rd choice when it comes to films.

It was so awesome to see it in theaters when i was too young to do it when it came out. he literally died from a gun on set and then they remade the whole movie around gun violence.

Natural Born Killers meets Corpse Bride. Meets some people who can't write or tell an interesting story. 😵💫
Here's an interesting fact, at 4:36 James O'Barr makes a cameo. He's the guy stealing the TV.
I agree. One comicbook, one movie. No exceptions.

Goth Wick has got me rolling.
The attachment you feel to Eric and his mission feels very different in each
And you walk away from each feeling a very different sort of finality. BOTH were successful in conveying what they set out to do, and neither leaves you saying, "Wait, what?"
I think you say it perfectly.
Pure crap ,movie industry does not respect art anymore. They will take anything to milk for its very last drop. Sad really…..
Man, I've always wanted a version of the crow with tattoos on his face.
THIS WAS FILMED IN MY COUNTRY?! I should move away
I hated that they did a remake for the crow and now I feel vindicated. Leave good classics alone.

Lionsgate has so many huge failures this year with Borderlands, The Crow & Megalopolis!
We really need a Borderlands/Crow crossover. A movie so horrifically bad the entire fabric of reality collapses in upon itself, and Rupert Sanders can't make any more films.
I really liked this movie, it was poetic , interesting, and creative.. I don't care what the reviews say
I had a feeling that this movie was going to be terrible sometimes remakes of classic movies should never be made especially to The Crow

Congratulations passing 1 million. Thank you for all you do. Been here since very beginning. You did 1408 and Identity for us!
If it was up to me, this is how the story would go:
I would totally make Eric a flawed person, that struggles with his own past demons (be it from childhood that was bad, or some event that shaped him).

The best part of this crow remake was Fake Shelly's coat.
I do love when you called fake Eric "Goth Wick"
I see why Jason Momoa, didn’t mess with it!
The very definition of the film that didn’t need a remake.
There was no reason for a remake, RIP Brandon Lee.
Goth Wick. That's good. Should have been the title of the film instead so The Crow could remain as it is and not be associated with this garbage.
This new Crow movie really sounds like sh*t.
The audience has spoken. Do not disrespect Brandon Lee’s legacy!
I started laughing every time you said “Goth Wick”😂
Nice touch!
This movie remake really seems like something that came from the mind of a depressed emo teen. I am glad you are covering it so I don’t have to sit through the movie in boredom.
Honestly, how dare they make this. Boycotting forever.
