#Luxe OK, after about 10-15 years of passion for espresso and everything related to it, from roasting to restoring old espresso machines, I have to admit that this thing has some potential. I've seen so many attempts to combine the simplicity of a fully automatic coffee machine with the quality of a manual grinder and machine setup, but most have failed in one way or another. There are 3 key elements that make the difference between a fully automatic and a manual machine. 1. Consistent grinding and dosing, which most fully automatic machines simply cannot do. Some machines are better at setting the values than others, but in the end it's always a blindfolded guessing game because you can't see inside and there's no scale to tell you. 2. proper leveling and compacting to avoid channeling, which automatic machines simply can't do. Combined with inconsistent grinding and dosing, this leads to poor extraction, you can compensate by using specific blends, but it obviously limits the variety of flavors. And the third and only point that some fully automatic coffee machines get right is the temperature. However, these fully automatic machines are not really good compared to a manual machine, but many people wouldn't be able to make a decent espresso with a manual espresso machine because they don't know how it works and not everyone is willing to become a barista just to make a decent coffee for breakfast. That's why I think a decent fully automatic coffee machine is still a good option if you use high quality coffee from a trusted roaster. Like I said, I've never seen a manufacturer address these exact issues to help people get a decent espresso with maximum control and options. There are only two things about the Ninja that I don't really like. First, it's a thermoblock design, BUT I know full well that it HAS to be that way to work for the people it's marketed to, those people don't want to wait 30-60 minutes for the machine to heat up, and that's fine if that's how this machine can achieve a consistent brewing temperature. The second thing is that the grinder and the scale are basically fully integrated. Again, it needs to be that way to work for the target audience, but they should have at least made it so that you can easily replace/repair it without taking everything apart... what if you need to replace the grinding cones or the scale stops working?
I got this machine a week ago and have loved it. It's just super easy to use and it does a great job on espresso and regular coffee. I think your review is spot on.
A very nice hands on review. Lots to like for a coffee/espresso drinkers early morning ritual. And a grinder and scale and suto frothing included. I can envision many people buying this.
As an espresso nerd, I'm impressed! If I didn't already have a really nice machine and grinder, I would have considered getting one of these. Also, interesting approach to cold brew. Maybe I can try to imitate that process on my Decent!
Hi Tom. I see you already corrected the info re manually steaming. To further clarify, manual steaming only works when you set the steam style to "no foam", then extend the wand out from the body. Press and hold the steam button for 3 seconds and it will start. The reason is, the macine has a built in air pump that is used for low and high foam levels, pushing air through the wand as well as steam. Another point on ratios. The machine can be set to a 2:1 ratio, default 2.5:1 (so 18g in, 45g out), and 4:1 ratio in the advanced menu. That's in the manual too, though there was some early confusion because Ninja had a preproduction manual out and online that showed those settings via the front panel button above descale. That button now changes the brew temperature on the final production model, and you have to dive into advanced settings, find .h06, and set your ratio there for espresso output.
Thanks for that informative comment! I did end up finding these settings, and they really negate any cons that I mentioned. It's a sweet machine, and I think I will do a follow up video to showcase what I missed. I also turned the annoying beeps off, lol. Cheers!
Thanks for the updated information about the advanced settings. One month in and I really love this machine, now I’ll move on to fine tuning the settings thanks to your suggestions.
Our Ninja Luxe arrived yesterday after a long wait (out of stock very quick)! This review is super helpful while waiting for the arrival. Thanks, Tom! We absolutely LOVE it. Our first hand review: So much easier to use with decent quality. Surprisingly, it is quieter for grind and forth! The quality grind and expresso adjustment really brought out the bean's essence. So, time to upgrade our beans!!! The physical dials are solid, which reminds me of playing a digital audio workstation! (You have to feel it yourself, sorry!) For the forth, it can't get easier than this to produce silky texture using whole milk. Before this, we are debating between Breville Touch Impress and Breville Oracle Jet, this come in with 1/3 and 1/4 of the price, and way below our budget $1000. And it somehow do a better job in terms of the overall value. The "look" definitely left a few to desire, especially with the back/side of the machine using lots of black plastic. It is an eye sore at the beginning, but the front design quickly pop out to compensate that. Overall, it makes me want to drink more coffee! Not sure if it is good or bad. lol
Great review. It hit all the boxes for me and its more practical than my current basic manual set up, the espresso shot looks even creamier than what my machine can do. I’m getting one!
I have been considering buying one of these. My neighbor just got one and I have to check it out the next time I go over there. It seems very well thought out and well made.
Thank you very much for your informative video. My machine arrived today as well. What confuses me a little is the positioning of the portafilter. In the manual’s pictures, it shows that it should be turned so far to the right that it’s not centered but fully turned to the end. However, in all the UA-cam videos, it seems to be centered. So, do I need to turn it all the way to the end on the right or not? Thank you!

At the same price. Would you go with this one or the breville barista pro? (I found it on sale in 500 too). I don't care about the brew or ice coffee, just the espresso and the steamed milk
That's a tough one. I like this one better for espresso, since it weighs for you, and heats the portafilter. But the Barista Pro has the much better steam wand.
Thanks for the review. Do you have to use the grinding feature to brew a cup of coffee? My wife drinks decaf so it would be nice if she could add her own grounds without removing the beans. Also, it looks like hot water does not run through any plastic on the machine. Is that true?

What about the quality of the mechanism? How long is this machine expected to last and how often does it required to descale ? Also, can distilled filter water be used?
First and foremost #luxe . Secondly, this was a phenomenal review and I am extremely satisfied with all of the detail that you went through! Thank you for the great review!
Will you guys please put a measuring cup under the machine with no grounds in it and run a 6 ounce classic coffee and report back how many ounces actually came out. My machine puts 2 ounces sometimes 2 1/2 out more than it’s supposed to. Is this normal?
I received mine in the UK today and it has a hot water dispenser button and an Americano setting along with another feature I noticed while setting it up but it escapes me as a write this. Either they’ve updated it for the UK market already or 120v in the US would just take too long to heat the water so they left it out for you guys. Either way I’m stoked I have it! Edit: Just remembered, ours comes with a single shot basket along with the double and quad, fantastic for when I don’t want a huge hit of caffeine. I’m absolutely loving this machine!
@@futuresbright8023 I don’t use it as it’s too slow, I have Ninja’s temp control kettle and set it to hold temp at 95 degrees while I sort out the shot.
I have had mine for 2 months now. I put a 20oz travel mug under it and I select 16 oz and for some reason it always overfills the mug. I wonder if there is a way to recalibrate for amount of water it flows when making coffee.
I think it’s a really cool machine - I’d consider it over a Sage Barista Pro. I wouldn’t, however, swap it for my Bambino Plus and Baratza ESP combo. Gotta appreciate the option to upgrade your grinder should you wish.
Thanks for the review, really detailed. Really moving towards getting this machine. The only thing that makes me nervous is Ninja almost always launches a new improved model of their appliances after 6 months to a year, hopefully that is'nt the case here 😅

you can manually steam with this machine, using your own milk pitcher (and I’ve tried this, and it works extremely well and is very fast). Just set the machine to ‘no foam’ mode, extend the wand, and start manually foaming and stretching your milk.
Hi Tom! In our house, we’ll probably have between 10-18 coffees a week. We’ve been using a nespresso for over 4 years. I used to love it, but little by little I’ve been falling in love with good coffee shops and the taste of a good coffee. I’m a first time mom with a baby working full time, so I also need convenience! Would you recommend a machine like the ninja or a fully automatic delonghi evo? I’m struggling with the decision! (I mainly drink lattes, long and iced coffees!)
If you were to choose between this one and the Breville Barista express impress, which one would be your choice and why? Thank you for a great video by the way!
#LUXE !!! thanks for the review.. at this price $499 i find it to be a steal... lets see how the grinder and scale hold up over time. I also like the breville barista pro now with the updated burr set from ESP.
Nice review. Packed with smart features which makes it easy to use for people who want to be barista without the learning curve. Design is not beautiful and not ugly either in my opinion. I don't know the brand very well so would like to know how the service is organized e.g. when you need spare parts.
Hello! Can you froth milk in a separate pitcher and use it as a steamer? Like with any other coffee machines? ( and not use their own pitcher/frother?). So if you want to do latte art, to steam your milk and do it? Thank you
Tom, nice review. Comprehensive. Thanks! You said that the regular 10 oz coffee was "hot" (165 degrees F). What temperature setting did you have the machine set for? Could it be hotter (burn your lips hot)??? Thanks again. Jeff
great review, def buying this since it lets me dial in shots without effort :') also, for that pitcher id honestly just take some pliers and pinch its beak sharp for latte art.
Should you prefer that over a Delonghi Magnifica Evo, or you consider that these are two different types of products ? I ask that because i'm considering buying o fully automatic coffee machine but I read a lot of reliability issue regarding the Delonghi and this one seems quite easy to use. Also I quite like your videos, continue doing them !
As an owner of a bean to cup Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, I've put it up for sale after getting my Ninja. Although the drink selection and automation are excellent in the Cadorna, I've found the brew group does not excel at anything and makes average espresso even after working to tune the settings. The Ninja blows it away.
How does this compare to the Breville Barista Touch? I like that this has cold brew and drip coffee, also a taller cup for coffee on the go. Are these two machines levels apart? I'm buying a gift for a coffee lover

At the price, it is very much in competition with machines like the Gaggia evo pro. Thank you for reviewing this machine as I was curious about it.
First and foremost #luxe . Secondly, this was a phenomenal review and I am extremely satisfied with all of the detail that you went through! Thank you for the great review!
@@gavinleverenz thank you for your kind words!
Will you guys please put a measuring cup under the machine with no grounds in it and run a 6 ounce classic coffee and report back how many ounces actually came out.
My machine puts 2 ounces sometimes 2 1/2 out more than it’s supposed to. Is this normal?
Awesome review and machine. Excellent price point as well 🎉🎉
I received mine in the UK today and it has a hot water dispenser button and an Americano setting along with another feature I noticed while setting it up but it escapes me as a write this.
Awesome to hear! Can I ask where you ordered it from?
I would have loved to have a hot water dispenser included for an Americano.
What model are you referring to as I don’t see this mentioned in the manual for the e600 series

The only thing that makes me nervous is Ninja almost always launches a new improved model of their appliances after 6 months to a year, hopefully that is'nt the case here 😅
#Luxe
Great review of this product. Nothing was left out. Wish more people did reviews like this. This machine is at the top of my choices thanks to you. Cheers
you can manually steam with this machine, using your own milk pitcher (and I’ve tried this, and it works extremely well and is very fast).
Thanks for the video - what about type bean types? Is it easy to swap them? Or could you just grind your decaf and manually add to the basket?
Thanks for the review. Looking forward to this coming to the UK.
I have read that you can adjust the espresso ratio.
Have Ninja said when this is coming to the UK? I can't find any info on their site!
@@ipodgooroo No I sent them an email and tweeted them too. Both said it's planned to be released here but neither would give even a rough date.
@@Hazehill ah that's a shame...! Hopefully it is out by Christmas 🤞
@@ipodgooroo Yeah definitely fingers crossed!
Perfect for my needs. Good review
Nice review. Packed with smart features which makes it easy to use for people who want to be barista without the learning curve. Design is not beautiful and not ugly either in my opinion. I don't know the brand very well so would like to know how the service is organized e.g. when you need spare parts.
Ordered mine the other day. Very much looking forward to using it.
where did you buy?

Hello! Can you froth milk in a separate pitcher and use it as a steamer? Like with any other coffee machines? ( and not use their own pitcher/frother?). So if you want to do latte art, to steam your milk and do it? Thank you
Thanks for this review! Can you use pre ground coffee with this machine or only the whole bean?
Pre-ground is not recommended. Cheers!
exactly what i'm looking for. also more than I want to spend.
I love ninja and hope this comes to Australia as my old bean to cup is dying .. great video review … just hope it’s reliable
Tom, nice review. Comprehensive. Thanks! You said that the regular 10 oz coffee was "hot" (165 degrees F). What temperature setting did you have the machine set for? Could it be hotter (burn your lips hot)??? Thanks again. Jeff
Great video Tom!!
Sorry if I missed that but is it a thermoblock machine? Any news about availability in Europe?
I think it's a boiler machine by how it sounds, but I have not looked inside yet.
great review, def buying this since it lets me dial in shots without effort :') also, for that pitcher id honestly just take some pliers and pinch its beak sharp for latte art.
I'd choose this Ninja over the Magnifica, although I really like the coffee cremas from the Ninja.
Thanks for your review. How does the brewed coffee mode taste compared to the pour over and french press method?
It tastes like brewed coffee to me. Pour over is better imho.
Time will tell how long this machine will last. Thank you for the review
We just got ours this weekend and absolutely love it! What coffee beans do you recommend, we dont get a good crema with the ones we are using🤔
Do you have a local roaster? Fresh beans are the key to crema. Supermarket beans are often months old already.
How does this compare to the Breville Barista Touch? I like that this has cold brew and drip coffee, also a taller cup for coffee on the go. Are these two machines levels apart? I'm buying a gift for a coffee lover
Can you single dose it?
Quick question please.. when you switch out the espresso size to regular... If it's just been used, wouldn't it be hot??.
It is hot, yes. I try to touch the plastic lip of the basket, and not the hot metal part...
I’m sure you’ve used the Breville machines. Which would you choose? And why?
Let me get back to you on that, after I've used this longer, with manual steaming.
#Luxe - Great video - There are so many varieties of machines, and you do a great job reviewing them. Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Any opinion on picking between this and a delonghi magnifica evo?
@@doctorwho311 I’d take this myself.
I want one! Can't wait for these to arrive in the UK
Thanks for making this review. Now I'm thinking about buying this machine. #Luxe
