Hey, I've been really motivated watching your devlogs, which have taken me on an incredible journey through the development of my game project. Thank You So Much
3:26 I love making flexible codes, I mean like going deep into programming is like playing RPG games, we start as a beginner who just know hello worlds, and then we start learning more things. I found that programming can be really flexible when I learn about Interface, I was so amazed. I learned inheritance before Interface, but It Just not good enough. But interface in other hand, it fixed my every problem at that time. I made my temporary perfect player and enemy controller, and until this day, it's still my best thing I've learned.
Great to see you back! I've missed your videos. It's awesome that you've been keeping busy with game jams and working on your Metroidvania game. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!
I’m really looking forward to this game! It looks great! One thing which I’ve been thinking about your less linear progression system though - instead of the player choosing the order they unlock them through a menu, why don’t you allow them to choose by putting different challenges around the world, each with their own abilities locked behind them. I think doing it through a menu could ruin the immersion.
That is actually how it will work but instead of grabbing the specific ability you'll gain a point of sorts you can use to unlock the ability. Don't worry we have plans on how to make it more emersive and also tie all this into the story... We have a WHOLE secret zone dedicated to simply learning and using abilities you unlock (super secret for now tho so can't say more haha) but essentially yeah, you'll be exploring the world, talking different challenges and they will ultimately provide you with new abilities as you go
I admire your entire journey. The way you have approached this has honestly been such a big inspiration for me to get back on that game dev horse. Congratulations on all the progress you have made. Can't wait to see where this thing goes :D
That's not how this is supposed to work. I admire YOU not the other way round 😂 you were such a pivotal part of my journey and the reason I really put effort into to learning scalable code! I still use your Core system to this day 😂
Greeat fricking job dude. I wish you would’ve shown off more clips or images from the really early stages of development though. Everything in this video already looks really good which no game does at the early stages
Yeah, I didn't have a massive amount of footage is the issue... Literally all I had was 2 videos from the beginning which were 3 minutes long and didn't show much even back then 😅 Thanks for watching and I'm super glad you enjoyed it!
Wish I'd found your channel sooner. I'm a solo dev too, but struggling to get back into it, so your video was motivating. Glad you finally managed to make that leap. Good luck to you.
Your game looks really good man, just starting my journey now. Unfortunately my uni does not have any game dev courses, I just to learn and put the work and attend game jams to get better.
To be fair even studying game design idk if it would be the best route for everyone! A lot of what I learned was self driven so it's up for debate. It gave me the space and time to learn however which is invaluable! But doing game jams and learning little by little is the way to go for sure! Practical knowledge and actual games at the end of it too
Hey, I don’t know how I never found your channel but ambers tale looks dope I hope it does well, also thanks for this video it really helped inspire me to continue on my game
@@LazyTeaStudios you’re very welcome. I’m working on a top down pixel art “soulslike” I’m using soulslike really loosely here cause you can dash, parry and attack, it’s still in a very early stage but I think I finally got a story I’m happy with and I’m working on trying to find an art style I like and that isn’t too time consuming to animate
A brilliant video to watch. Do you know what was brilliant as well? That brilliant transition to the sponsor of yours, Brilliant. Truely brilliant. 😂 Keep it up man, really enjoy your work. Also congrats on the journey so far.
Verily well done. I suggest making a group with other indie developers, and work in the same space together as if you guys are working in the same company. Doing so might improve morale and motivation, accountability and productivity.
I actually have since around a few months ago and it has helped an awful lot! Got to meet meet some amazing Devs and they've helped so much! People like AIA and Deynum have tought me so much!
the fact that you could go to uni to study game development, that there were precedents to follow and experts to learn from, that you had access to tools and resources to do the work, that those tools were advanced enough to allow you to focus on higher-level concepts, and that you could easily reach out to a pre-existing community for guidance and support... should not be understated or under-appreciated. this is *not* intended as criticism. it a plea to you as you begin your career. keep a day-job, using nights and weekends to do something else *entirely different and antithetical* to what your employer values or demands. make full use of this modern, low-overhead, resource-rich environment to make things that are truly *wonderful, interesting, and different*. build a small team that specifically includes people *well* outside of the game industry... even if they can't write code. and *never* use "i make youtube videos to teach others" or "i'm super busy now and don't have the time" as excuses for failing to do this.
I fully agree! In my latter years at uni I truly embraced what I wanted! Before then I didn't really understand what I wanted but since I've set in motion ways to make this sustainable. I'm part of many communities and even UA-cam gamedev specific ones. I have taken on additional studies and courses. And my fiance and I are planning to move to Latvia next year for a drastically lower cost of living and lifestyle to maintain this journey! Taking every opportunity we can and growing as a team and a community! We now have a shared goal and a means to attain it! 💪
I always jump between working on graphical aspects and technical aspects of the game, reason being its eye candy to see progress, yes you can limit yourself from the technical aspect. BUT when I get frustrated with programming, working on graphics pleases me until I'm ready to jump back in.
Im just jumped in metroidvania game dev. Im creating my first prototype. I have a character, enemy, animation and more but still very far from your result. Def subbed to reach your level. Ty for helping me in this journey.
@@LazyTeaStudios I am fine now, just had a couple minutes of realizing how bad the situation could've gotten! :) But really loved the video! I want to check out the game for myself. Is the demo out or??
@@RealZeanAye I'm glad your okay 😅 there is a really outdated demo out on my itch.io page which was the Kickstarter demo... So it's bad however the boss is at the end and honestly the boss fight I feel is pretty fun all thing sconsidered... It took about 20 attempts on average for people to beta it
The game has that Rusted moss feeling with the atmosphere and environment and I dunno of that's a good thing. Don't get me wrong your game looks awesome but I want a more "original" themes and atmosphere (I don't have criticism for anything else other than the atmosphere)
That's valid, I remember discovering rusted moss not long after the most recent visual overhaul haha I was slike "damn, we look similar" but rest assured there will be more visual updates as I learn more even still and when the Millan Brothers do their thing with sound design and music I can guarantee the atmosphere will be amped up!
@@LazyTeaStudios yeah, keep up the good work I'm definitely looking forward to this game, and I really hope that the game has some original mechanics never seen before! Like the shadow mechanic seems very similar to a abilty from Crypt Custodian

Only 6 minutes of game development per year? No wonder the channel is called "LazyTeaStudios" smh my head
Honestly it's really impressive, I expected less, maybe 4 minutes per year, maximum! They truly outdid themselves
xD
Literally I impressed myself when looking back! But they there's always next year, I'll try bring down the average 😂
