i think they are basically sister models from Hyundai and Kia. so its close enough. but between the 2000 Honda Civic i used to drive and the 1st generation Nissan Leaf i drive now its obviously that my new car had a lot more measures taken to remain cool. windows that are both tinted and smaller, more insulation....
I agree. The insulation factor, window tint, and glass UV makeup may make a difference. Just a Caution. I rented a car while visiting Palm Springs California a few years back. The car, a 2020 Mustang convertible. I left a water bottle in the cup holder while touring the Palm Springs Air Museum. The sun was so bright it caused a small burn hole in the driver's seat from the magnification of the water in the bottle. It cost $248 for driver seat repairs.
I have a white car and a black car, and let me tell you, the white car cools down much faster, great for summer, while the black one keeps heat better and is great for winter.
Different models and even different trims of the same car can have differences in the insulation of the roof. Repeat the test with the same make, model, year AND trim of vehicle.
This was a no-brainer. Several years ago I was with a Realtor in Palm Springs California looking at homes for sale. She had a dark blue Jaguar. The temperature that day in August topped out at 118 degrees. In the 10 minutes we were inside a home, that car got hotter than a pistol inside. The following day, we looked at homes while using her white Lexus. The temperature that day topped out at 120 degrees. The interior was more tolerable. yes---color makes a big difference.
Cool fact: did you know that even with when snow falls on a painted white surface it causes the snow to fill up 2 to 3 times faster and last 2 to 3 times longer then a neutral colour surface. My example that happened before was a 3 cm of snowfall was forecasted and for the first time ever when I wanted to be testing this and the results was on a white surface turned out to be 6 to 9 cm of snow accumulation instead of 3 cm.
This is the reason why many UPS drivers are more like to faint during delivery than FedEx and USPS drivers since the vans are mostly colored white while UPS is very dark brown.
Did you check those thermometers next to each other to make sure they measure the same temperature? I have one like that and it says in the manual that the temperatures on the outside sensor can be different than the inside sensor even sitting next to each other.
One thing to note- the gray car has been repainted wrongfully. The bad orange peel tells the obvious story. That's the bigger factor, as it attains more heat due to the thickness and inconsistencies of the bad paint job (2:20)
The temperature of the console depends on radiation from sun if it's in direct sunlight and depends less on the air temperature. The black car has a lighter colour central console so it reflects more radiaton that's why it's cooler
Use a good dash cover like Heatshield brand dash cover. It makes a huge difference in the amount of Sunlight and heat that enters the vehicle compartment. The airline industry uses those shields to cover the cockpits when aircraft are parked on the flight line.
In July 2014 I bought a “Granite Black” Chevy to replace my white Cavalier. Black was last new one left on their lot, and option sheet said that black was a $900 option (you mean oven is an option?) Black was expensive because it was actually cooler inside. White car became daughter’s ride, both parked in same driveway, with all 4 windows open 1 inch, black was cool enough to fill out mileage report & day planner before starting up the car for afternoon work, all summer. White car interior was always too hot to attempt this without engine & A/C on!
Because the colour black absorbs all light and mixes the rays of colour into black, whereas the colour white is the absence, (not UV rays) reflecting all light and the rays of all colours! It’s Basic Grade 9 Science!
So much bogus. Remote sensor on the dash, but the other one on the console? Too many variables. Are you comparing outer sheet metal temp or the interior? If so, the comparison is invalid as the conditions are different. Either way, it’s clear that the exterior color has very little effect on the interior temperature.
Yes! That grey car is not that even dark. Does it have any metallic in it? Metallic colors, especially the lighter ones, reflect light a little better, but metallic paint breaks down in the sun quicker and you need to repaint sooner. Gotta love the white. If you have pets, you definitely don't want a dark colored car. Don't see the attraction in black cars. They also match the color of the street in the rain. Sometimes I think the head lights on law for whenever you are running your windshield wipers was developed because of the proliferation of black cars. (I not complaining about that.)
Basic science. Would’ve been great if the reporter included how we see color and why. Same is true regarding the color clothes you wear. That’s why Obama wore that tan suit in the summer that caused a complete meltdown of the idiots on Fox News.

Yellow and Red colored cars oxidize faster than any other color out there. Keep a good wax on it or it will eventually peel the clear coat protective seal.
White = combination of no colors ( colors= all wavelengths of sunlight ) . So it reflects back light like a mirror at the top . The inside temperature seems like the light that entered through the windshield and windows and both being black had similar temperatures. Luckily, my car is white and interior is beige😂
