Crabby and Fishyyy fly a Lancaster to Germany and back. Please note that most aspects of nightfighting are horribly bugged in IL-2 1946 and that basically everything used in here is a stop gag measure to make it work at all. I know it is not a hundred percent realistic, but this is the only way to do it.
This took a very long time to make, because of various technical issues in IL-2 1946. The nightfighter AI is an absolute mess and it took me for ever to get it to work at all. AI nightfighters are basically unable to fly straight attacks and it often takes them a long time to succesfully attack a bomber. Because of that, I had to put a lot of nightfighters, so that there was at least a chance of us actually getting attacked by one. This is one of the reasons, why this mission turned out to be an absolute monster, with a total of 234 aircraft used. Overall the mission contains 2366 aircraft waypoints and 1179 ground objects. This is a very fps heavy mission and the use of target indicator flares does not help, they are quite performance intensive, too. In the end, I did not have enough fps to film this in normal speed, I actually recorded all the footage once in half speed and once in normal speed, for the proper game sound. I ended up with 27.5 hours of footage. When I test rendered a few minutes of footage in the usual 1080p resolution, I noticed that the quality was absolutely terrible, because UA-cam does not handle dark videos well at all. That is the reason, why I rendered the video in 4k, UA-cam allows for a lot bigger bitrate this way and the video actually looks decent. Rendering this in 4k took my PC a bit over 20 hours. My PC froze once while trying to render this and the rendering software crashed once. Well, it finally is done. The only full night bombing raid on UA-cam.

This was take 3, we got shot down earlier. When we got shot down, I yelled: "BAIL OUT" and then went: "Wait, what's on fire?"
I’d like to join the war
With a Corsair
So sad that this masterpiece only got 3000 views
Dude don’t Disrespect this You-tuber here.
Was mods used to make look that so cool?
I haven't even watched it yet, but damn, props to you Fishyyy for putting in the effort just to get this video up.
Was gonna say the same thing, great job. I literally found this by searching IL-2 1946 into UA-cam. :)
This video made me remember when as a kid I closed myself into a dark room in our house with a cigarette lighter, and I kept on switching it in the darkness to imitate flak during a night bombing raid. I wanted to feel what those aircrew could have felt.
@@frankgaletzka8477 You are right. Probably I've had watched some documentaries about bombers that time. My country (Hungary) was blasted by daytime air raids in 1944-45. My grandmother remembered it. Her sister's first husband was killed in an air raid. Then the eastern front swept over the country. Peolpe still hardly dare to talk about that.
Theres is VR simulation called 1943 Blitz Berlin where you sit inside lancaster with that particular bombing raid with original radio traffic going around you as it was recorded. Very good vr experience
Same it's some thing that I can not fathom
Three and a half hour of "To Hell and Back" in a Lancaster?! I'm in heaven and back! Thank you for the effort. We appreciate it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who had issues with the night-fighter A.I. The only way I could partly fix it and get the A.I to attack was by flooding the area with searchlights. Once coned the night-fighters would attack until the bomber went out of searchlight range.
Awesome video btw, really appreciate the effort you guys went to.
4K... woah... I'd only have the patience to compile this to 720p... admire your dedication. thanks!
More jets
On a serious note, I really enjoyed this one. Night raids are amazing but youtube's handling with night videos suck. Thanks for your effort to make it viewable.
I remember when people were saying these kinds of missions would never be possible in IL-2 1946. It wasn’t that long ago! Thank you for your amazing effort. This video is a joy to watch.
The more I watch your videos the more I get interested in the entire idea of digital flying as you do... although I don't understand the nitty gritty details in the flying , I still enjoy your videos ! Keep doing more !!
This is why I wish I had IL-2 1946. The details are so good and guess what, you make them even better and more realistic! Keep up the amazing work!
Get it on GOG. Currently 75% off, too.
My late grand-dad absolutly loves the Lancaster.
Damn fishyy thank you for this amazing video! I never would have guessed how much work it would have been. Thank you so much for all of this hard work for the community.
Hello Fishyy, I apologize, because I'm from Brazil and I don't speak English (Google translator).
But even so I want to congratulate you for the video, I noticed that it was hard work, but it was great, my congratulations and success.
Arthur "72 Hours of TNT Showers" Harris
What an adventure it had to be :D that's why I love IL-2
This production is huge and now I understand why it took you a while to get it uploaded. The lighting is very good for a Utube night flight and the atmosphere in the air with the evening and night lighting conditions is something special. I love to listen to you guys chat while flying. Astonishing landing, by the way ;)
The great colossal UA-cam movie ever done!
Thanks for the Highlights in the description! I love that.
Great work, thanks for the vid!
Thanks guys. That was lots of work. I'm surprised you were not able to monitor the fuel, but good landing given the circumstances. That landing took teamwork and skill on both parts. Sehr gut. Gruss aus dem Rheingau. Bill
We didn't run out of fuel because we missmanaged it or anything. Permanent fuel leaks simply remove all of your fuel, which is complete BS. Sadly, there is no way to manage fuel tanks in 1946.
Next up an 8 hour escort mission from Iwo Jima to Japan and back))
The end was the most exciting part
Mission looks fantastic, especially the searchlights. Props mate
Great video - as always! Keep it up!
Fantastic stuff! A Lancaster pilot, VC Bill Reid stayed in my town, met him few times. He was on the dambusters raid, amongst other sorties over targets in Germany. Wonder what he would make of this.
Dude, what kinda VOIP overlay is that? It sounds amazing!
I cut the lows and heights, so it sounds like we were wearing oxygen masks. Thank you :)
what a great ending! genuinely nail biting
What a great endeavour! Hopefully playing Valiant Effort will be much more bug-free and optimized to fly these sorts of night ops!
Hey diddle diddle Right down the middle, absolutely outstanding video! Fishyyy I swear I've spent many sleepless nights watching and rewatching this particular video. Not that it's boring, but it's easier to see clearly. I'd bet you spent the same amount of time on this video as some of the Masters spent on their works of art.
Stay Fishyyy and keep them coming!!!
P.s did I ever tell you that this would make a great T shirt?
I am still thinking about the T-shirt idea. There is a company in Germany that prints high quality custom shirts. I'll have to nail the image, though.
@@Fishyyy you are the best there is!
HI & hello now I need 10 hours flying as AMSR video ! :) Thanks a lot Mr. Fishy !
Well that was interesting. I'm running a Dell t-7500 with 4 quad cores at 3.02 and a n Nvidia GTX-1080. But to be honest a couldn't see much even in 2160p. It was sort of radio version of "Target for Tonight" Anyway thanks for the effort and oh, nice landing there Crabster!
Your PC specs don't have anything to do with the brightness. This is way brighter, then what we actually saw during the mission.
@@Fishyyy Geeze you must not have seen much at all. How did you spot the night fighters?
great work
Wow, what a slog. Hats off to you guys it was epic. Such a shame you can't transfer fuel from leaking tanks as in B17 mighty 8th. Had to turn the brightness up on the tv and sit in the dark to see anything.
nice landing
Nice landing chaps lol
Haloo.Avro Lancaster is flying spirit of Britania.
Well-done, you got home. I still haven't found a WW2 Flight sim as good as IL2 !946. Trouble is it became too complicated with too many additional mods.
Very nice touch at 3:25:20 with the masks
Hallo Fishyyy, ich hab mich gefragt ob du auch die neueren IL-2 Titel spielt, oder noch andere Spiele wie WarThunder?
Ich finde deine Videos echt gut und lustig mach weiter so!!!
Great Mission on an amazing aircraft, As soon as I saw you get pinged by the search lights forst thing came into my head "Corksrew" Shame you didnt :)
Corkscrewing every time you are in a searchlight is overkill. It doesn't even really help against those AI searchlights, either.
Any more bombing runs for us to join?
Nice
My question: how do I fly the Lancaster on realistic bombing missions like this? How do I get the Lanc, and how do I get the long range map where I can fly from an English airbase all the way to the target and back in one go?
Excuse me, Fishyyy, i want to ask a question. Sorry if i don't watch this video until the end because i don't have the time right now, but are there any Avro Lancaster variations with FN-64 ventral turret in IL-2 1946?
There aren't :/ Never even heard of that before tbh^^
Yes they did make a small number with the ventral turret fitted. It was pretty useless though, which is why they did away with it.
@@thebollock9427 A few were re-fitted in an attempt to counter Shrage Musik.
@@busterdee8228 shouldn't think it would be much use for that. It was aimed via a periscope. They had trouble hitting anything with it in broad daylight never mind total darkness lol
So you took longer to film this video than an actual WW2 night raid?
My Grandfather flew to Stettin took 10 hours the operation.
@@kiwipinos Its in his comments, he said 27.5 hours of footage.
@@keithw4920Yes but actual Operations were around 5 hours. I have my Grandfathers Logbook.
I haven’t looked enough into the RAF night bombing campaigns but it looks like you guys are alone. Was there no formations at night?
No there weren't. We're not alone, there are bombers everywhere around us. It's called a bomber stream.
@@Fishyyy thanks for the reply Fishyyy. So the stream was much more wide than it was deep. Makes sense since it would be too easy to collide at night in a standard combat box. Love the videos. I had to explain to a girl I’m talking to what I was watching while I was on the phone with her. I told her I was watching a bunch of guys play a video
game flying wwii planes. Needless to say she was thoroughly impressed. I’ll send you guys the wedding invitations
I know that feeling xD
going to hell and back!
Do you guys ever run multiplayer servers? This game is like no other and it really sucks that There is nobody to play with.
Very diverse selection of aircraft ... wasn't that a Fairey Fulmar? ... and yes surprisingly few Grumman F4Fs
Yes, that was a Fulmar. Still, wrong video :D
@@Fishyyy D'oh!
I wonder why ask that under another video?
@@Fishyyy ... because, if there is a setting where when you finish watching one video, you can *prevent* UA-cam taking you to the next video automatically, I haven't found it yet
Love the vids just bought the steam version of game after having the old cd version back in the day, Tried the bat mod, well bugger no lanc tried the other DLL to see if it would work and still nothing :(
fuckin props to you man
how big is the bat mod?
Du weißt schon dass to Hell and Back ein Song von Sabaton ist?
Hat nen sehr cooles Intro :D
Hab ich mir auch schon gedacht
Are the red lights on the ground fighter beacons?
aircraft wrecks
Hey mate is the Lancaster in Il-1946 without mods?
nope
Please do Tu-2 next. Thankssss
Wieso fliegt ihr eig nur Il2 1946 und nicht mal das neuere :)?
you use reshade with graphics extender mod?
Only reshade. I find it very troubling, when people cannot tell whether extender is enabled or not.
@@Fishyyy what effects do you used?
How do you navigate to the German city in the game?
I had a map open in a picture editor and marked stuff down on it.
Eh first, the gameplay are awesome.Second,i muy the il-2 1946 bit the game when i enter a game the Windows Is black.I can gear the sound bit nothing :(
Is there a nightfighter option?
What do you mean by nightfighter option exactly?
💆🏽♂️
Is there any videos on how to get this running in 2022, mods etc. Need this kind of thing
We are actually developing night mission stuff right now. Will be way better then this :)
@@Fishyyy need a idiots guide for getting this. From purchase off steam to first flight. Missing bombers a lot these days. Heard microprose are bringing a new version of b-17 and there’s a Lancaster in the works for msfs. Waiting game. Me not like waiting lol

yay in early
Wow, this really looks horrible. I'm not criticizing the author of the video, the video is fine, but the game just looks... baaad. I haven't played Il-2 1946, but i bought and spent a lot of time in the original few versions of Il2 +datadisks, way back in years 2003-2005. I don't remember night missions looking this bad, but maybe i'm wrong. I'm now flying mostly GA civilian planes in X-Plane, but lately i've been watching a lot of dogfighting videos, tried the DCS demo for a bit, and thought about getting back to WW2 flying. Have you played IL2 - the Cliffs of Dover and/or the Tobruk? If so, what do you think about it? Does it look/work better than 1946?
Howdy Crabby here, I also streamed the whole mission so if you want to watch go here ua-cam.com/video/iIiVIYeczFI/v-deo.html
