What happened to the allied fighter escorts? Too early in the video for them to bug out due to fuel. It would have been a disaster if an entire squadron of 262's engaged the Liberators. And why go after a wounded Lib? Especially after he dropped his bombs?
I've read the books by Stephen.E.Ambrose about the second world war as well as countless other books by different authors and the one thing that I can never get my head around is this, if we had such numbers in bombers, light and heavy, how come so little damage was done too the so called atlantic wall, I mean the young men sent up them beaches just never stood a chance.
Because the Atlantic Wall was not a wall like the West Wall, it was loosely associated forts and bunkers, and not even that at some places. The fortifications were too small for the inaccurate spread of formation bombers. Rather, prior to the invasion, the fortifications were bombarded by naval guns, to pieces, except where Omaha beach is concerned, where inaccurate fires resulted in mostly intact forts upon landing. So, the reasons are; the target wasnt a viable target, too small, bombers too inaccurate, other tools better suited to the job
There are a ton, you just have to pay attention. 15:33 for example. At 33:35 i nearly got caught, just check the contrails around me, every one is a fighter.
Actually, If Fatman and little boy hadn't worked, the US had no other bomb in storage, it would have taken at least months to make more bombs. Besides, if the US had tried to drop a A bomb over germany they would n't have taken any risk and would have hidden the bomber amongst thousand others imho with extremely heavy fighter support.
Actually, if there ever had been an attempt to use the A-Bomb on Germany that would mean that something else had to have gone horribly wrong for the Allies so that Germany is still able to effectively defend itself. In any case, the bomb carrying B-29's would in all likelyhood fly much higher over Germany than over Japan. The intense high altitude winds over Japan forced the USAAF to fly at lower altitudes in order to reach a reasonable bombing accuracy... this wouldn't be a problem over Germany. And if using the bomb on Germany was seen as necessary, that would mean the Luftwaffe and Heer would still have been effective fighting forces instead of shadows of their former selves... this would definitely mean that the A-Bomb carrier would fly in a formation of regular B-29's, at high altitude. Anyway... long story short, my point is that the Luftwaffe would have still been able to defend Germany, which means the war would have gone on longer than it did in real life... so it's very likely that planes which were only available in limited numbers in real life would have been much more prevalent in this assumed scenario. The other point is that early jet engines suffered really badly at high altitudes and had real problems developing good thrust there, so it would be much more likely that the fighters intercepting said B-29's would be Ta 152 H high altitude interceptors, not Me 262's. *Above 9km, the Ta 152 H-1(thanks to it's GM-1 nitrous oxide injection) is actually faster than the Me 262!* ^^
Germany's real mistake was not ever building a four engine bomber..that would have given them the distance to bomb western European countries into submission
The head-on tactics - not quite realistic with Me-262. AFAIK in the real world the way was to approach from behind, dive under and open fire while climbing from below. But this is of course (just) a game - so what works in the game must be quite OK - I guess ;)
I was going to say that, closing speed would be way too fast to get a hit from head on. The pilot gets a hit every time in this game, while in real life the pilots sometimes would miss completely even when coming from behind because the firing rate of a 30mm canon, even four of them, is too slow.
@@eugenespicer3272 The problem with the MK 108 wasn't it's rate of fire but it's low muzzle velocity. This meant that the Jadgflieger had to get much closer to their target to shoot it down. Some pilots preferred the 20mm Kannone as it had a much higher muzzle velocity hence higher range.
... or Tempests... or Thunderbolts... or Spitfires... Also they usually would have attacked when the 262's slowed down for their long landing approach, not on touchdown or when they are already within the airfields short and medium range AA cover. Of course, that's assuming that the "Platzschutzstaffel"(Airfield protection squadron) is either sleeping or there is no such unit at this particular airfield. Which doesn't seem to be the case, as we clearly see Fw 190 D-9's taking off right before the Me 262's do.

Nice plane the 262 but I think that this is not very realistic, because he would run out of ammo before shooting all those bombers.
Why don't the B-24s crews bail out when the bomber is obviously too damaged to fly? Doesn't IL-2 implement bail out crews?
