I'm a bit fed of up of people saying that I hate No Way Home in its entirety lol; there's lots of things I like, just nothing really relating to the cinematography, editing or sound like I've looked at in this video. As follows:
    - Tom Holland is a great Spider-Man. I enjoyed how much darker he got to take it and I could easily do ten more movies with the guy.
-Garfeild characterised as the romantic, expressive Spider-Man was great. "I love you guys". I also think the line delivery on wanting to have brothers was particularly sweet.
    -Tobey. Enough said.
    - Dafoe never phones it in. I saw someone say Thanos is the MCU's Darkseid, and Goblin is the MCU's Joker - and I totally see that.
    - Aunt May finally got something to do.
-The big three villains were all brought to life beautifully. In particular, Jamie Foxx's Electro got a BIG upgrade. Not only in look and power, but he was way more fun in general. "I kinda like who I am in this universe." That grin could almost secure a spin-off.
    - Peter #3 catching MJ was great, even if everyone guessed it online for weeks from that final trailer.
    - Lastly, the love and affection Spider-Man fans of three generations had for seeing the trio unite was really cool. And you could feel that everyone involved was having a really good time. The special features and interviews have been just as satisfying to explore as the movie.
I sought to compare it to the Batman in this video because I think as fun as these Home movies are, they could do a lot more. I'm not saying that No Way Home would need to act and feel like the Batman to achieve this. Also, its just a movie! My opinion on it won't burn your digital copy or make Jon Watts quit the profession. The movie was an overwhelming success. But can we have some more contrast next time, please?

      The movies you referenced
Like matrix resurrections and matrix 3 weere critically oanned for their horrible cinematography. Comparing those movies with the Batman only degrades your opinion. Batman didn't do anything innovative. It's might be a good movie. But it didn't do anything special other than doing everything the same dark, dceu style with some nolanishque style action and dialogue and with a rushed up third part.
I don't like to compare movies especially movies which are from completely different genres. You simply skipped over the good things about no way home
Like Peter s character growth, his sacrifice
The great music and redemption of other characters and the perfect balance between all the characters. It elevated spiderman to a whole new level meanwhile Batman remained the same old Gotham boy fighting street crimes. I get it. It's your opinion. But I highly disagree with it.

Disney these days have perfected making films to the most efficient level fun to watch but never ground breaking cinema! Loving the direction of the new DC stuff “Batman” and the previous “joker” films as they’re not trying to compete with the MCU instead they’re focusing on the individual storys rather than a massive universe hopefully they keep it up!!

I would argue they have made some of the most groundbreaking stuff movies, in a variety of ways. Look at guardians or endgame or even no way home. Wether you dig them or not, these movies were groundbreaking. There is nothing like them, nor will there be anything like them. Don’t get me wrong, the Batman is much more of a traditional movie. But don’t undersell the marvel stuff just because out don’t like them. The reason they are so fun is partially because they are so solid

One small detail I love about The Batman was how despite being an overall serious movie with little humor, I feel they were able to get it in with how Bruce/Batman had to keep going back to the club and dealing with the twins with pretty much the same result every time. I think they did this three different times throughout the movie and they always made me laugh.

Thing for me is in the Batman the opening is great the car chase is great his end monologue was great but it the movie should’ve ended with the monologue
Some parts could’ve been cut down
Dragged in the middle for me
And yes riddlers riddles were too easily solved
And the end riddle is just him pulling up the carpet pretty lucky that he happened to be above that carpet
Basically while the Batman has better cinematography sound and look
Spider-Man is much better paced and doesn’t last 3 hours which will have me watching Spider-Man over again much more

@@cactustalks may be better paced but the lighting and set designs reminds me of the first avengers movie. Looks flat like a tv show. NWH to mention how the most important villains were actually Oc and Norman, the others didn't have to be there and you can take put one or them without changing much. In contrast to The Batman every villain added to Batman's arc and the story. Riddler is the trigger for the story, Pegging is the red herring and Falconi is the rat, the head of the corruption. I rather watch a ground breaking, emotionally invested cinematic masterpiece that nails and gives me The Batman I wanted from the live action adaptation. A damaged, observant detective that sacrifices his personal desires/life for gotham(ie looking back at Selina in his bike's mirror, essentially indicating she's the one that got away), someone who strikes fear in criminals but is the hope of the city and is compassionate about children, especially orphans and to the villains he encountered( ie : when he apologizedto Catwoman about what he said after she explained why Falcone owend her the money).I watched NWH 3 times and liked it less(I only like specific moments), I watched The Batman twice (one for the story and the second for Robert) and found the things I found annoying like the run time, wasn't affecting me because it needed every minute to tell this story. I even appreciated the voice-mail scene and this is because of Robert, Zoe's and the actor for Gordan's incredible acting. To catwoman's pacing, to Batman listening and visually what happening because he knew at the end she was being strangled and Gin's horror. Also when Catwoman broke down on tears after hearing her screams. Absolutely incredible.
I still love NWH, but thus analysis of the movie comparing it to Batman was spot on

The Batman is the first comic book film that I've genuinely loved in a really long time. It feels so meticulous, atmospheric and intelligent compared to most stuff coming out these days. While I enjoyed 'No Way Home', it was mostly because of nostalgia, whereas 'The Batman' feels like a different beast altogether. I love the film noir detective thriller aspects of this movie, and how it focuses more on Batman's psyche. I really hope Matt Reeves can expand on that tone with the sequel.

This video is well done put. It's weird that The Batman got me going in twice in the cinema but not No Way Home. Yes, No Way Home had a great colab from all 3 generations, but I think the amount of CGI used in there just doesnt appeal to me anymore. (Perhaps, this is the sign of me getting older).
The Batman truly satisfied me and the whole movie isn't just 24/7 action but we actually get to see his detective side with a real mental burn while hunting down Riddler. In fact the use of the CGI in The Batman was barely more than 2 or 3 scenes said it all.

I think something that could’ve been brought up in this video was how each movie utilized their villains. Both movies have a large rogues gallery, but imo The Batman’s villains feel like they have more of a reason to be there than NWH’s.
The Batman basically has three villains we focus on, Riddler, Penguin, and Falconi. Sure Catwoman and the corrupt government could also be villains, but Catwoman is really only an antagonist for one fight scene and the bad cops are more like a plot device. All three of the “main” villains I listed have a reason to be in the plot. Riddler is the trigger for the story, Penguin is the red herring, and Falconi is the rat, the head of gothams corruption. In addition to orchestrating the whole movie’s plot, Riddler also has a personal connection to Bruce, calling out how he benefited from the corrupt reform program. Falconi also has strong connections to our main characters; he is both Selina’s father and made dirty deals with Bruce’s father. Penguin was Selina’s pimp and we assume after finding Selina’s girlfriend’s body in his car that he killed her. In addition, without Penguin in the movie, the mystery plot about who “The Rat” was would be very easy to figure out, as the only mob member left was Falconi. Every villain in The Batman has a strong emotional connection to one of our main characters and have strong connections to the narrative of the movie. Of the two secondary villains, I don’t think you would be able to take Penguin or Falconi out of the movie without losing something.
In contrast, NWH has a lot of filler villains. Sandman and The Lizard really had no reason to be in the movie. They don’t really add anything to Tom’s arc, and they never got to speak with Tobey or Andrew either, so the connection they had from previous movies didn’t play either. Electro is also used like that; while he was really entertaining to watch onscreen, he could’ve been taken out of the movie without changing much of anything. Really, the most important villains in the movie, we’re Doc Ock and Green Goblin. Ock and Goblin each tied into Tom’s arc of trying to reform the villains. Tom succeeds with Ock at first, while Norman goes crazy before Tom can help him, killing Aunt May in the process. Ock represents Peter’s successes and humanity, while Norman represents Peter’s failure and rage. You need both of them in the movie. Norman is also essential because his connection with Tobey is used for the best moment of NWH, when Tobey *stops* Tom from killing him, really powerful after you’ve seen everything Tobey went through in his movies in the fallout of him killing Norman. I think what NWH needed was either to cut out most of the unnecessary villains and plotlines, or maybe have the movie be an eight-hour TV show, so we could’ve had a strong focus on *all* of the villains.
We could’ve seen Sandman argue that he *wants* to go home to see his daughter. We could’ve seen Electro work more with Ock, Tom, And Norman; I’m sure the older Ock and Norman would have some advice for the younger Electro and Tom, about how technology can corrupt you. Maybe Andrew could’ve expressed internet in saving Lizard as he is the only living friend of his parents; I’m sure a proper conversation between Andrew and the Lizard about his parents would do wonders after Lizard inadvertently causes the death of Aunt May, *this* reality’s Peter’s “parent”. There was a lot of potential but ultimately the film didn’t have enough time to deliver on its incredibly ambitious premise.
This is why I don’t mind The Batman being 15 hours long, it *needed* every second of that time to tell the grand story it wanted to.
Overall, I enjoyed NWH, I loved all the moments when my childhood heroes and villains returned for one last hurrah, but I’m afraid of watching it again because I’ll probably notice cracks I don’t see the first time.
    Peace!

The things I like about the batman is that Gotham feels alive, it feels Gothic but not too gothic like Tim Burton more like a mixture of noir and a digitalize gothic. While for NWH New York just feel meh or empty doesn't have much personality to it. While Tobey's New York feels like a theater set where it's full of personality and the landscapes is just iconic and magical. I would even say the same to the Amazing series as New York feels busy, and bustling modern New York. While the MCU New York is just eh. The problem with it is that we don't get to see a lot of New York in the MCU unlike The Batman where we get a lot of Gotham

So… the Batman is a ridiculously good movie all on its own. In fact it’s a 10/10 masterpiece in my opinion.
But in No Way Home’s defence… I still think it does a better job with the story than people give it credit for, whilst it is packed with nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake I’d say a lot of it works on a deeper thematic level for Tom’s peters story. Dafoes Goblin tests toms ability to live up to his heroistic morals just as he did with tobey. Talking of Tobey… whilst he doesn’t get an end to any kind of arc like Andrew did (and needed) he doesn’t need it, he had a 3 movie arc testing his responsibility, his ability to be spider man and keep his morals, which is a lesson he passes down to Tom perfectly by stopping him from giving into revenge. It ties into the Raimi trilogy themes extraordinarily well. And as said earlier it closes andrews arc, revealing how he became after losing Gwen, giving him some hope that maybe he could work something out and giving him a redemption scene where he prevents Tom from suffering the same loss.
Then the ending of toms sacrifice (albeit a little contrived) and his decision not to tell them for their own good ties in perfectly with one of the most Spider-Many pieces of dialogue ever written… “ sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want most, even our dreams “

    • @WSDigitalArtwork
      @WSDigitalArtwork 2 роки тому +58

Also got to say I agree completely with any comments about cinematography, bad cg and missed opportunities in no way home. And especially the point about Score. The theme that plays during aunt mays death sequence and peters final sacrifice is a stunning piece that matches the Batman’s score… but as a whole the Batman really outshines it. Whilst having small light Motifs for the characters like, Ock, Goblin, Electro and tobey is nice, if you’re gonna go lazy with the score then just go all the way and use the themes properly in their entirety so we can get the glory of all 3 spidermen swinging to the og Spider-Man theme.

No, defenitly the batman has a 100% better story than NWH, NWH is basically full fan service that sometimes doesn’t have logic in anything according to multiverse/timelapse logic in the MCU, the batman doesn’t have those big holes in trama, also in NWH if that movie didnt have that nostalgia factor + tobey and andrew probably that movie would be a failure like the 2 movies before. NWH is really good but casual people just overrate it

One's the concluding film of a multi-part story that also ties up loose ends to decades worth of preceding Spider-Man films, and the other is depicting its titular character in his formative years learning not just how to become a better vigilante, but also the general value of pursuing justice over vengeance. Both conclude on the same point about learning the nature of true heroism, but they use different plot devices to get to that point and obviously evoke very distinct tones.

Not only that but truly defining Batman as The World’s Greatest Detective and directing him as more than just Vengeance, but the light of Gotham leading them from the darkness.
With NWH you get the usual MCU style with occasionally cinematic moments. However The Batman tried something new, and put emphasis towards everything from defining Gotham as a corrupt place that can make even the Purest individual make a life-altering mistake, to giving each character qualities that set them apart from each other, and the actions of Batman speaking louder than his words ever could. It shouldn’t be any surprise that The Batman is better. I love NWH, but subjectively The Batman just gets a lot more right with its direction.

The Batman here really does a good job showing the detective side of things, and No Way Home gave us a fun but deep story on Peter pretty much becoming a man. These two films are two totally different styles of movies and writing and I don't think it's fair to compare or judge them over one another. To me, doing that just sounds more like someone biased saying Marvel sucks and DC is better when they're ignoring both companies successes and failures.
Just as an example, this is like comparing Danny Phantom to Spongebob. Both are tonally and visually different things with different themes and scripts (Danny's more mature while Spongebob's more geared to kids). Neither is better than the other.

If that’s your thoughts then there’s your reason why you’re not a film maker, far from home finally captured the Spider-Man character (after 3 movies 🤦‍♂️) and they finally got him where he needed to be. It taught him consequences for his actions, loss, and hope for the better. The film achieved almost everything it needed and wanted to do, calling that just a “crowd pleasing blockbuster” when it did its job is absurd. Both movies did their job and achieved what they needed to, the only difference is ones DC(which are Darker comics) and the other is Marvel (more happy and the classic superhero story). To say one is better than the other is pure opinion based, The Batman has its faults and everyone is ignoring them rn because it’s new and hot whereas NWH is currently being dethroned from the top as it’s not as new so now people are pointing out it’s faults more. Give The Batman 3-4 months and you’ll see what I was talking about. The Batman taught us almost nothing new about the character, it more so just brought in a new perspective for a movie Batman. To say the writing is consistent? Go watch it one more time but this time analyze the film as a true critic and not a Batman fan, the movie is only good for Batman fans as everyone else complains “Oh he didn’t really win” or “it’s too slow” which I could agree on as a lot of scenes just had unnecessary slowness to them to “add tension” but fails to do so after you realize Batman moves slower than a snail unless he’s fighting. That being said I love both films, I think they’re wonderful adaptations of the characters and they could both use some touch ups here and there but nothings perfect so I don’t mind the little things too much.

The Batman was so rich, and I also feel that it spoke perfectly to our sense of despair and helplessness in our current reality--environmental decline, massive wealth inequality, and the rise of vigilante extremists taking advantage of technology to stoke outrage through grooming and misinformation. This movie was disarming because it was grounded in our reality and the anxieties of our time. I also like how the Selena Kyle character was positioned here, confronting Bruce in his detached, seemingly depressed apathy, reminding him of the very real issues at stake. This is exactly what a superhero story should be about! Even Batman began to despair, in the end showing true heroism in continuing the fight against all odds. @Full Fat Videos Ok yeah but you could make this same video with any marvel movie, and a good amount of DC ones too, because you're just using the same arguments that everyone uses for every marvel movie? They make a lot of money, they don't have a captivating color pallet, they make things harder for mid budget movies, yada yada. This video could have been "What The Batman Does That Marvel Doesn't" but everybody made that video 3 years ago when Joker came out. It's an artists vision made to tell a story instead of franchise building. We all get that by now and we know why marvel doesn't do that. It's because Spider-Man made a billion dollars, it continues to work, and that shouldn't be seen as a negative or a failure when a proper super hero "film" comes out a few months later. Everybody liked No Way Home.
Comparing these two movies and their "use of reference" to movies and film tradition outside their own franchise as if they're trying to accomplish the same thing narratively seems like bad film criticism to me. Not to mention that John Hughes has been a huge visual influence on the Home series since day one, it's never been that this spider-man has only referenced marvel.
You also probably shouldn't use fucking SPIDER-MAN as your example when you're going to complain about quipping during action. That's a bed rock quality of that character. It would work if your video were about The Batman vs Marvel house style in general, but not about The Batman vs No Way Home. No Way Home used the Marvel style probably the best out of all their movies, it feels like an incredibly poor target for this critique.
Lastly, and I really don't mean to be rude, what is happening with that thumbnail? Usually you guys are on point with that but that one is not very good. This video feels kind of rushed and not thought out very well.

My favorite part of The Batman is how it might just be the reset the superhero genera of movies need. It's fitting that grunge music, but especially Nirvana was such an inspiration to this movie. Just as how the entire Nevermind album changed music forever, and really said "Go genuine or go home", this movie is that for superheroes. I especially like how the stakes never went past the limits of Gotham, that even though Riddler could do more damage beyond the city limits, he chose to stay inside the city and send a message to everyone else. It's kinda like how although Nevermind was bigger and rocking throughout, the fact that it ended on the subdued "Something in the Way", it chose to stay grounded as well, and not being this bombastic affair (I don't view Endless, Nameless as an official track, but rather a secret bonus added later, as it doesn't jive with the album's ending)

I think at the end of the day, both movies set out to do different things from the get go. Spider-Man No Way Home represents comic books as feel-good crowd pleaser. Its story is simple, with a few holes in it, but you barely care because of how hype it is. It's a rollercoaster and you're on adrenaline all the way. The Batman, on the other hand, represents comic books as a narrative medium. It's a slow burn methodical crime drama.
Coincidentally, both movies perfectly represent some of both characters' more recognizable comic runs from recent years. The Spider-Verse comic run which inspired No Way Home had a fairly simple plot that doesn't make much sense when you think about it. But you barely care because of its hype moments and the celebration of so many Spider-People coming together. It's a crowd pleaser through and through. Meanwhile, a lot of great Batman comics rely on clever writing and suspenseful mystery, leading the readers to try and figure out the plot's secret alongside Batman.
It's honestly like comparing Berserk to Demon Slayer. Yeah, both series focuses on the protagonist fighting supernatural demons and entities on their quest, but both can't be any more different than the other. Berserk is a complex character-exploration that would have readers pondering the moral message of the story for years to come. Demon Slayer is a feel-good action, good vs evil narrative that is really more about the hype of the moment than anything else. Mostly because it's not trying to do anything outside of that.

One of the things I really liked, and it's just a small character detail, was the change in how regular Gotham citizens reacted to Batman from the beginning to the end of the film. At the start of the movie the man who is saved from the Joker gang reacts in fear to Batman, while, at the end of the movie, the woman he carries to paramedics clutches at him as if she doesn't trust anyone else to keep her safe. I thought that progression was a nice payoff.

My biggest problem with Marvel nowadays is that it has too much humor when it is not needed. They seem to be more interested in making an action movie with a lot of comedy than telling a compelling and character-driven story. It's almost like they are afraid to go the dark and grim route for fear it will not do well. While understandable, there are just some comic books that they can only be told in a serious tone and the modern day Batman is definitely on that list.
I'm not against humor in a comic book, quite the opposite. I expect there to be humor in some comic book movies, especially Spider-Man as his sarcasm is one of his greatest qualities, but not in every single movie. What's more is that it seems the humor is almost forced rather than let it flow at the right time.
For me personally, I want to see a comic movie where the hero is a flawed character with internal conflict and over the course of the movie goes through an arc of character development. That is what The Batman was chiefly about. Batman starts out at the beginning of the movie as an angry, vengeful man who has let his trauma define him and comes to realize that his anger has caused Gotham more harm than good and must learn to change for the better. Spider-Man (Holland) went through an arc in No Way Home too, but I just found myself more interested in The Batman than Spider-Man No Way Home.

Something I love about recent DC films, is that while Marvel is making a huge, cohesive universe, DC has finally understood that they need to step away and let filmmakers make their movies and to hell with a cohesive cinematic world. We’ve seen this with films like Todd Phillips’ Joker, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, not to mention the more stylised and comedic films like Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn), Shazam! and Aquaman. No matter what you think of these films, they are clearly the product of one filmmaker, one vision, and don’t have the same air of studio interference as films like the Theatrical Cuts of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
Marvel films don’t really have that same individuality. Is that a bad thing. Not really. I think most of the MCU has been pretty good. Sometimes the lack of individuality in tone or style works because it’s easier to believe all these films are the same world, whereas I find it hard to believe that The Suicide Squad was the same world as Suicide Squad (2016), let alone films like Man of Steel. Marvel have been really good at crafting a flowing cinematic universe that makes sense when you view things in the wider picture. The problem with the DCEU was that they jumped the gun, making the fourth film in the same amount of years the Justice League movie. There was just no patience, no real development of these characters, and far too much meddling from the studio who wanted something to break billions of dollars when the reason that characters like Batman appeal to filmmakers, at least in my opinion, is that you can go weird. Batman can be odd and stylised. It can be a dark crime drama one film and the next one can be an insane fantasy.

Two things that always bothered me about No Way Homes. First, the way the entire conflict is set up feels like a joke, in that Peter was being way too talkative during the spell and it feels like a weird way to start such a life-changing event in Peter's life. Second, I REALLY wish they showed us the villains actually going back to their dimensions and living better lives. I'm sure they could have cut a few whatever jokes in the film, or cut out the unnecessary Venom scene, to see the villains happy and make Peter's sacrifices worth it.
As it stands, we don't get any closure on that and while we can assume Peter helped them out, it leaves the audience with very little catharsis and feels like it's incomplete. And I have no idea if they did this, but even if they do that in an extended cut or deleted scene, it doesn't count if it's not in the film when I paid to see it in theaters.

I personally prefer The Batman because the story was great though it is a bit of a slow burn. The acting from most (if not all) the cast was superb! It was just a tad bit too visually dark HAHAHA But I've come to accept that Batman movies will just be darkness at this point. Still, as a long-time fan of Rob Pat, I was very happy that he nailed this role! And it's nice to see more broody sides of Batman hueheuhue
No Way Home was a very fun watch though. As much as it was "nostalgia bait", it was still very interesting. I mean it was cool af to see all the Spidermans come together and I fangirled like crazy. Though I personally think the previous Tom holland Spiderman movies were somewhat better. I found Tom Holland to be a tad bit annoying in NWH, just a bit.
The target demographic for both is quite different. I personally think the Batman is for more mature audiences while the Spiderman can be enjoyed by both young and old alike! I just hope DC and Marvel fans can just enjoy both for what they are. No need to hate on the other ♡♡♡ Just love and peace guys!!!
