    As kung fu movie lover myself, in real fight IP Man wouldnt stand a chance, not only enormous difference in psychique, but those punches from mike literally break bones. And that strike on the chin around 2 minutes would turn off IP Man like a switch.

    • @CCgivemeawedgy
      @CCgivemeawedgy 2 роки тому +149

      This is the classic argument of strength vs speed. You assume the real life Ip Man wouldn't be able to dodge or counter any of those hits. In real life, Ip Man would probably take into account the difference in physique and either give up(because he's not a starter) or go in with a plan (if he had no choice like in this case). Don't get me wrong, Tyson is fast as all hell with his punches but Ip Man is on another level entirely. It's like comparing The Flash vs Quicksilver.

      @@CCgivemeawedgy As a black belt in Taekwon-Do (TKD) who's recently sparred with a person who trained in Wing Chun as long as I have, Wing Chun as an art form is really spectacular, but is also very specialised. There's a very specific distance that it works best, and only works if the opponent isn't expecting to have their attacks redirected whilst also getting counter attacked at the same time. Wing Chun absolutely cannot handle kicks, at all. The entire philosophy of redirectly power and attacking/defending at the same time just doesn't work when getting kicked. It's also terrible at taking power hits (punches) where the arm is at a 90 degree angle, because redirection becomes significantly harder when there's a shorter arm to leverage.
      A friend of mine has also trained in both Wing Chun and TKD, and he admits that Wing Chun is not very effective outside of very refined art styles. They struggle with grappling, they struggle with rapid kicks, they struggle with power punches. In terms of boxing someone with similar experience: if the other person is allowed to wear gloves, gg. Gloves enable power hits after power hits, as well as making it significantly harder to redirect the attacks since gloves get in the way of typical redirectional techniques. If no gloves are allowed, then it depends on how often the other person does a straight jab. It also depends on other factors. Are kicks allowed? How long have you trained? Imma be honest, Wing Chun is useless up until 4 years after training because while you're learning Sui Nim Tao (which does NOTHING for sparring), a boxer is already in the ring giving and taking hits, training cardio and fitness, and learning sparring skills that are essential such as timing and footwork.
      Do note, that the most famous Wing Chun user (Bruce Lee) saw this flaw, which was why he sought after learning how to kick from TKD, how to grapple from Judo, and typical sparring conventions and tactics from boxing. He made his own martial art from it (Jeet Kune Do). Wing Chun is effective against traditional martial arts such as other forms of Kung Fu, and some forms of Karate, but that's about it.
