this is why i am here. not a fan of boxing (yet) but all the hype on X brought me here. (i'm so new to boxing, i'm a 50 year old south african and have never heard of francois botha 😱)
Tyson admitted this was won of his toughest fights. You could definitely tell at the end Tyson respected him for a solid fight. One that was worth the PPV
Not enough recognition is given to Tyson's footwork; the man could really dance ok. He was on of the most coordinated boxers with footwork in the entire history of the sport.
I noticed this about Tyson in a lot of his fights. After knocking them down/out and the ref waves his arms, he rushes over to see how his opponent is. For such a ferocious, beast of a man and some of the shit talking that occurs, you’d think he’d keep that same vibe even after the bell but he never did. We have clowns nowadays dancing over their knocked out opponents, looking like cocky, arrogant fools. Not Tyson. He always gave respect…minus the ear biting incident but I think that was a culmination of specific past circumstances that all came to in the ring that day. (Plus, now Tyson & Holyfield are friends and biz partners.)
That fight with Paul was fixed and so was this 1 watch after the break before the KO Tyson holds up his right hand and all of sudden Botha who was boxing his ears off or Tyson was just hiding his time before the KO idk but he holds up his right and Botha walks right into a straight right hand lol the same way Jake Paul curled his right glove and Woolley dropped his guard and got KOd difference is real guys can really fight and know how to make it look real if you ever seen movie diggstown when he bought the fighters he told them make it look real and listen to fighter in ring that happens it’s just real guys sell it so good we think it’s real. Wanna see real fight watch amateur boxing or sparring in gym. When money is involved it’s guaranteed fixed.
Botha was not dope dude got knocked out how many times look it up he talked a lot of shit during this fight I have no idea why Tyson help him up after knocking him out.
Great fight! I remember it like it was yesterday. It was January 1999, a month after I was discharged from hospital. I gave my fellow countryman Botha, no chance of victory, but he proved me so wrong by pushing Tyson all the way until Mike lowered the boom on him. A big hello to everyone from South Africa who watched this video and to all the South Africans in the comments section! 🇿🇦
@@adamryan5682 Yes, I agree with you. A prime Tyson gets a prime Botha out of there inside a round. Mike was past his prime at least 8 years before this fight. His last win against a fellow strong and young contender before facing Botha, was against Razor Ruddock back in 1991. Frank Bruno was washed up when he fought Tyson in 1996 and Bruce Seldon took a dive against Mike for fear of being hit.
Mike, you’ve faced legends, but there’s one fight the world needs before it’s too late: Mike Tyson vs. Harry Simon, Namibia’s undefeated champion. This would be a clash of titans, a moment that would electrify boxing history! The world deserves to witness this epic battle of greatness two legends, one ring. Let’s make it happen, Champ. The fight of the century is waiting!
He has no chance against the Problem Child, he is 30 years to late to even stand a chance against Jake, let’s face it Jake Paul is the modern day Iron Mike, he’s like a caged animal and puts his opponents to sleep very quickly like Tyson did in his prime, I give Jake a slight edge against prime Tyson but wow would that be a good fight!!!!
First time Ive seen this fight. My word what a battle. Botha a serious match for the brute power of Tyson. Great to see the sporting behaviour after the knockout as Tyson tries to stop Botha falling out the ring. Tremendous.
True, Botha could have possibly knocked Tyson out, Tyson just did an incredible uppercut jab which ended the fight because he found a good timing, Tyson played a very smart move, but Botha could have possibly stepped up a bit earlier to win the fight, they were both hitting each other relentlessly and otherwise were very evenly matched. I love Tyson, he is the boxing legend, but I was kind of rooting for the underdog Botha, I tend to root for underdogs. Botha was actually super close to beating Tyson, this was an epic fight.
Insane to see when Mike thought he really hurt him at the end, all the rage went out of the window in a split second and he went immediately to help his adversary. That is the mark of a great man.
Tyson can punch from any angle. Remarkable boxer. I've been amazed by him his entire career. When he steps in the ring, you just expect him to win; regardless of who he is fighting, regardless of how the fight is going; you just expect him to win.
You could see tyson calibrating... botha did the same head dodge three times from mikes left hook, fourth one - mike connects with a close right hook, fifth one, mike knocks him out with a perfectly timed tight right uperrcut-hook as botha sways his head down & away from the left hook. Tyson was a master.
I remember watching this live, my friends and I were laughing so hard at Botha and his barking with every strike and that half bark when he got K.Oed..lol. Tyson went to his aid knowing he rocked the dude into the next millenia 😅
I do too but let’s face it, come November 15th he will probably be in the hospital, the problem child is coming with a vengeance so Mike better be very careful!!
Omg this tyson fight like a 10 years kid who is angry cuz he dont get a ice cream and fight against a barbie. Prime tyson would destroy him in the first 10 seconds
I hear many people say this and say that, but I followed Tyson's career from beginning to end. I was there for his early and later fights. What we were witnessing in this fight was the diminishing skills and talent. This was not by far one of his greatest opponents, which is ridiculous.

He was so dominated, unprepared and mediocre on that fight. Get a lucky when he placed that K.O.
Dirty boxing doesn't belong in the boxing world.
After all the annomosity in this fight, Tyson was instantly worried about his opponent when he went down. This is why i love Tyson, dude has a heart

Not sure that post fight act is 100% sincere. The crowd loves it and Tyson knows that.

Mike Tyson's post-fight hug was unexpectedly charming, especially in such a brutal sport.
Botha wouldn’t have lasted one round with Mike Tyson of 1985-1989/90. Mike was never the same after he got rid of Kevin Rooney.
Yes it's very apparent in this fight. Not much movement and not very precise in his punches.
