Did you see that!!!!??? 8:37 He drags her across the stage while she is locked on point. I don't know the ballet term for her position but she holds it while sliding on the stage. With a perfect head turn. Amazing. Never seen that done before.
It’s a first arabesque en pointe and as a former ballerina I agree that’s pretty amazing, I’ve never seen that before either. No rosin on those shoes that’s for sure!
I’ve seen it done in other Nutcracker performances, and even saw a bts TikTok about it - it’s a piece of cardboard or something like it on the stage that the Sugarplum Fairy’s pointe shoe is placed on before the move. You can even see it on the floor during and afterwards if you know what to look for!
Just saw this live for the first time tonight with a live full pit orchestra and it was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen. Definitely will be going to more of these. Absolutely incredible. The sets, the costumes, the dancing, the music. Simply stunning.
Waw now I understand why I find so many versions of the Nutcracker 😅 sometimes with adult Clara, sometimes with child Marie. Congratulations to the NYCB: amazing set and costums, and wonderful artists 😍
Aw, again at last a video of the series; Balanchine's Nutcracker in 10 minutes with a lot of Tchaikovsky's music, and proving that the Waltz of the Flowers would also work fantastic for the ending! (;
I usually like Russian productions better (Mariinsky & the Bolshoi), but when it comes to The Nutcracker, Balanchine’s version is my favorite hands down. It seems more magical and childlike, and I like that Marie is played by an actual child.
Bellissimo. Entrare nella magica atmosfera del Natale con un balletto a dir poco splendido, divertente e che ci cala nelle magnifiche atmosfere fanciullesche! Che dire? Bravi!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year of love for cute ballet shows, eternal gratitude gorgeous performers that make our lives a better place, Never stop believe in guys ❤🎉❤
Thank you for this video !! But I have a question, why do I know the story with Clara, and not Marie (I know it is her name in the book), and I remember seeing Clara dancing and being the first dancer ? Because I know that some of the "danseuses etoiles" of the Opera de Paris had their nomination as "danseuses étoiles" after this ballet and as Clara, so they were not children ahah I am lost 😰if somoene can answer and explain it would be delightfull ! Thank you :)
@@ClairePoirot Clara and Marie are just two different names for the same role, so there is no one called Clara in this version. Maybe you’re getting confused with the Sugar Plum Fairy, who is a separate character.
4:35-5:33 "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" Orchestra music is AWESOME!! Thank you and Merry Christmas, and a Happy new year. I would still haven't of knew about this song if it weren't from you.❤❤❤
It's weird cause I see it from 8:08 to 9:29. They included a big full minute of it, considering it lasts 6 minutes (just the pas). If you want to see the full pas just go to see it. Did you read the title? It's a short version, but you're free to do your "Nutcracker in 16 minutes" and include the Pas and watch it by your own. If you said it's not included you either are blind or ignorant lol
I've heard about the Nutcracker but never actually seen it until I watched this video. So, the actual scene with the Nutcracker in it happens fairly early on and then the Nutcracker never takes the stage again. Interesting. Most of it seems to have nothing to do with the Nutcracker.
The Nutcracker turns into the prince after defeating the rat king. Kinda a beauty and the beast situation. The boy watching the dances with Clara is the prince who was the nutcracker.
There are versions where the girl's name is Clara, there are versions where the girl's name is Marie. There are versions where she is played by a child, others where she is played by an adult.
I appreciated the captions and explanations, but you kind of fumbled the ending. You described events that happened, sure, but at the end, what was the point? How did her dream end? Why did she dream it? Did her godfather use some kind of magic to make her dream that? Did he do it for good reasons or nefarious ones? Can the message be that dreams, while fanciful, don't reflect real life and that a war between mice and toys mirrors the visceral horror of real life war? Is there some message about togetherness on Christmas? What's the actual story here? Is there even one? Who cares about a bunch of people dancing if it isn't leading to some moral lesson or evolution of our understanding? I guess what I'm asking is the final question, and this may be too big to answer for a small channel on youtube, but is ballet actually pointless in all practical regards, or is it just this one; the highest earning ballet in the world? Are most human beings stupid and incapable of searching for a higher meaning? Is this the pokemon of the ballet world? (Pokemon is also the highest earning franchise of literally every other major franchise you can think of combined, and it's a stupid pointless kids game about enlaving animals to fight in combat.)
This was probably the best schlock you could pay money to see in the 1800s. There were no standards of storytelling back then. "It's a dream!" You shout at me from the comments. So fucking what? I expect care and thought to be put into my entertainment, no matter what genre, or era. The people who wrote this didn't care to actually finish the story. If they did and I just didn't hear about it, and their original story was hijacked by greed and the hedonism of the masses, butchering the point through simplification, then my point about humanity sucking still stands. It just annoys me that we, as a culture, are still holding on to what was never really a great production. That the general population would never go for or understand a deeper dive into the exact same topics The Nutcracker only hints at. It's all taken for granted. Or maybe we can just enjoy some dumb, pointless, and unfinished entertainment.

According to Neil Shaw, the royal ballet is going all woke on us ( woke was my word, not his) they’re omitting the harem dance scene in the ballet as it may upset some minorities! How many minorities line up for ballet tickets . Disgraceful. 🩰🩰🩰👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
There’s a big outcry over the Tea aka Chinese Tea scene too! Here in the USA and at the RB in London. They say the negative stereotypes of the pointed straw hat, long mustache and pointed fingers are racist. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s all a fantasy! Maybe the marzipans should complain, along with the candy canes, that they’re not to be represented by female (the former) and male (the later) humans.
@@kat4617 I can’t speak for Gone Fishing regarding the gratuitously unnecessary comment about how many minorities are lining up for ballet tickets. I for one think the remark is in terrible taste. But I will make two comments. Years ago you rarely saw POC “lining up” for ballet tickets or opera for that matter. That’s not the case as much any more cross-cultural exploration of certain forms of entertainment and art appeal to more diverse audiences. However, ballet is a French/Russian tradition and the greatest ballets were choreographed in the nineteenth century. Depictions of the Coffee by a variation with an Arab or harem theme and Tea by stereotypical Chinese representations should not be omitted. (We don’t throw out The Merchant of Venice because it’s a distasteful stereotype of Jews) . Ballet is an old art form, its choreography and the all important mime that goes along with it shouldn’t be changed because of revisionist sensibilities. Then Swan Lake should exist because an unsavory thought that a prince would fall in love with a bird. Or Sleeping Beauty because fathers shouldn’t be marrying off their sixteen year old daughters. Or the incomparable Giselle - which is about dead virgins haunting a forest where a dead young woman dances with a grieving prince. All these stories are outmoded. But there’s nothing wrong with any of it. Why not object to the Nutcracker coming to life and a little girl falling in love with a little boy. There’s always modern ballet and plotless ballets. I think Manon is overtly sexual and if it makes me uncomfortable I wouldn’t watch it.
Merry Christmas Danceliners ⛄🎄 We hope you enjoyed the video! Like and share for support ❤️🥰

Wait a minute where's mother ginger?! Nutcracker ballet is not a nutcracker performance with her! Tchaikovsky!!!
¡Feliz Navidad para todos! ✨🎄
The mouse death is so funny
If Herr Drosselmeyer is Claras uncle and the nutcracker was Drosselmeyers nephew then doesn’t that mean he’s Clara’s cousin
Drosselmeyer is Clara's godfather
He is her godfather, they aren’t closely related
Godfather is who he is, She just goes by saying "Uncle Drosselmeyer". 2:33
I didn't even type that!!!
Is anyone gonna talk about how dirty the nutcrackers socks are💀

Just wondering, why is the march in a different key than the original? Is it just some recording thing?
Can you maybe do Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and Le Corsaire in 10 minutes????
Sure, it's in our to-do list, count on it 💪❤️
