I love it when people speak passionately about Big B. He is in my opinion the best to ever pick up the instrument in terms of raw technicality and skill. There's pretty much no one in his league
Won't get an argument outta me!
Buckethead put this video on his facebook page, cool!!
WHAT?
HOLY COW... YOU'RE RIGHT!!! OMG 😳
Umm... Hello Mr. Head! Huge fan 👋☺️
Loooooooove to see and hear you play and if only you knew touches me deeply ... as many, many others of your songs ... thanks for taking the time to make these shots and for sharing them ... 😊🌹🎸🎵
THANK YOU, Petra! For taking the time to watch them 🥰🙏🙇 I appreciate your support ❤️❤️❤️
Love to see a man really passionately speaking about what he loves, his guitars.
There’s only two signature guitars I’m interested in at the moment and that’s Buckethead and Lee Malia’s, both look so clean 🔥
Thanks for the kind words, JP! One of my friends actually has the Lee Malia guitar and he can't stop talking about it!
I love the cartonesk way you present yourself. You made it a habit to create something catchy to draw our attention to your videos. I also love the passion you display on telling us about your guitars. This one suits you perfectly. I will keep your recommendation in mind in case I might decide to not solely stick to the basguitar 💖🙏
Thank you, Shalom! 🥰
Some of your best work has been recorded on that beauty! Love that Gibson sound...you are the greatest of talents Rave, you make the music more beautiful. Your music moved me greatly 7 years ago when I first heard you & your Buckethead cover also introduced me to his music which is wonderful & I'm grateful for that! 🙏
You have the most beautiful artistic hands & long fingers like Hendrix, which I always loved about him & you also! Your vids are wonderful & educational & the history of your experiences & development as a musician make these even more interesting 💜😎🎸🎶
Funny that you mentioned it, that Jeff cover I did on SoundCloud years ago when you first heard me was also this guitar!! What a wild ride it's been! Thanks for taking it with me, Tracy 😊
@@SpellsandCurses Yes & what a wild ride Rave! 😊 Yes always loved that track from, 'My Sweetheart...' aswell...was euphoric you made it so beautifully your own...I was taken aback & was so struck with how much you reminded me of Jeff, but both of you unique & mutually so talented.
Always was there for you Rave & always will be! The Rave will go on & onto producing more of the most beautiful music ever! 😎🥳🎸🎶❤
Great playing first of all, also i love your explanation of loving a guitar that forces you out of your comfort zone, i felt that way the first time i picked up a prs
Thanks for checking out the video and your kind words! What kind of PRS did you play?
@@SpellsandCurses at the time it was an se 24, i didn’t end up buying it at the time but it felt very different from all the gibsons and fenders i had played that day, i eventually got an se 24
@@burnout10567 nice! The SE line is pretty versatile
Kinda cool this guitar got the ceramic 500t pickup. Seems it’s a love/hate pup. I had this set in my ‘94 Flying V. I changed them at one point, was never satisfied, so after 3-4 different pickups, I found the original ones, and I put them back. I was happy again.
They really are so cool because the fact that they are so hot means you can roll them off to whatever amount of sweetness you want! Never had an issue with them!
I bought one a few years ago. Indescribably good. I will never let it go.
Same here! I couldn't be happier. BTW, awesome handle ;D
I need to let you know, that spot at 13:15 is absolute gold. What a beautiful progression. I have spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out and it’s clearly in some odd tuning. Damn it’s so pretty I can’t wait. Where do you release your stuff?
Aww, you are too kind! Thank you ❤️😊🙏 That's a song I'm working on that hasn't been released yet. But you can find me on all streaming platforms if you look up "Spells and Curses".
You'd even doing my music videos on UA-cam 😜
i. totally agree, baritone 24 fret oversized les paul chambered body it hits everything right in all it does
It really does. It was the guitar I never knew I needed 🥰
@@SpellsandCurses haha same
@@Mcsteveberry you have it too?
@@SpellsandCurses i got the studio and the signature
@@Mcsteveberry hell yea!
His work with Bill Laswell and Praxis is my favorite.
Truly unparalleled. Not many people know about it so bravo to you!
He was playing the Heartfield guitar and maybe a Steinberger that Henry Kaiser gave him
@@riniones Now THAT, I didn't know.
Absolutely !!!
Can you recommend what works well for string changes on this guitar? Especially if you can comment on getting the proper strings that are close to the stock feel.
Hey there! Well string choice is usually a really personal choice for each player because it is how they interact with their guitars, so I would suggest experimenting with a few different brands to see what you like.
But when it comes to the guitar's stock feel, while I don't recall the brand, they were definitely 10s. But Buckethead himself is known to use 9 gauge D'Addario nickel-wrap strings for his electric guitars.
Hope this helps!
@@SpellsandCurses Thank you! I recently acquired a 27” scale baritone guitar that was stringed with thick 13s or maybe even higher. Too thick and It was lifting the action to an unplayable level. It's an overall disaster. I have ordered some 9 guage and 11 guage strings hoping to make this right! I'll be aiming to check out some 10s as well now that I have the information you provided.
@@videogameopenings6291 That sounds like a fun project! Good luck and keep me posted.
What tuning do you keep this monster in usually? Also you ever try out any 7/8/9 strings?
Fantastic question; so usually people would play a baritone guitar in baritone tuning (B standard or A standard depending on who you ask). When I got this guitar, I kept it in E standard because I wanted a regular sounding guitar that just felt more roomier to play. I've since moved it down to Eb standard because that's where I feel it performs the best for my purposes.
I have tried out 7 and 8 strings, never a 9 though. I could tune this guitar down to get those low chuggy notes if needed (although the intonation would need to be reset for that tuning). I definitely see a 7 string in my future, as it allows for really interesting chord voicings for what I do. Playing an 8 string is like relearning the guitar in a way, so that's kinda fun!
@@SpellsandCurses Killer, great sounding guitar. Only thing I'm curious about is when you had it in E standard, did the strings feel stiff at all? I figured the longer scale length would result in it not having a nice slinky feel like a typical les paul would have?
Just subscribed!
Thank you for the support! It means a lot to me 🙇🙏❤️
Buckethead 😎😎
The hero of the coop himself! 🙇🙏❤️
Yeah ok WE KNOW
Aye bro where did you buy it because I can’t find one without it being like 10,000 and they are so hard to come across if you could give me links that would make my day
My man, I bought this guitar about 10 years ago! I think our only hope of buying it new would be if Gibson does another run. Until then, it's eBay and reverb =(
I had this guitar back in 2010-2011 but I sold it because of the problems in neck. But everything else in that was perfect especially the design and oversized body. I have planned to order a custom built version of same idea but without neck and scale issues.
Neck issues? Did you buy it used? Where are you ordering it custom built from?
@@SpellsandCurses I will order custom built version from Palace Guitars. Originally there was some issues with collar iron and neck itself was impossible to tune dropped D from standard E. I bought it new. Otherwise the guitar was awesome.
@@salatutkansiot is this one you ordered from Palace Guitars as well?
@@SpellsandCurses The original Buckethead was from music store in Finland over 10 years ago. I have planned to order a custom built version from palace.
@@salatutkansiot I've never heard of Palace Guitars. Let me know how you like the guitar when it comes to you.
I have the studio version, owned it since 2011. I eventually wet sanded the orange peel feeling you described. The studio is now what Buckethead has been using live. 2017 2018 2019. Maybe more.
It is my best sounding guitar. It plays the best. As for your concern of satin finish. I am not rough with my guitars and there may be some frequencies I am missing cause mine doesn’t have a lacquer finish. A binding or ebony. It’s good enough for buckethead live and on tour….
The neck is straight and it stays in tune, can’t really ask more than that from gibson.
Studio Vs custom
They are the exact same guitar just had an extra 4000 dollars because I bought the studio version instead.
That's awesome, thanks for sharing! Do you have any videos of your studio in action?
@@SpellsandCurses as a matter of fact, I have a few. Well very few of myself, but you can check Buckethead Bozeman , Buckethead Brian and brain boulder or Buckethead Jackson Hole, I filmed those shows and Buckethead is using the studio model.
i love how you have your amp settings as your channel header 🤘
@@Mcsteveberry that’s Buckethead’s amp. I got to work one of his shows. Carried in his gear….
@@DustinRuther holy shit! if you ever see him ask him the story of his first custom gibson les pauls, like everything he did to them thats something loosely not disclosed for the public
I saw him at bb Kings in 2018!!!
Very cool! He's a beast!!!
the studio model had a baked maple fretboard it wasnt richlite 😋richlite is like fake ebony its black but it dosnt leave stains like ebony does
Leave stains? How did thing leave stains? Where?
@@SpellsandCurses ebony usually leaves like black stains on your fingers from the dyed wood but its like not that bad, run a rag of lemon oil and you will see the black come up
@@Mcsteveberry i was told you're not suppose to clean an ebony board with lemon oil!
@@SpellsandCurses no no! the only wood you dont need to condition is finished maple fretboard, you know, like on a strat. all other exposed woods need a good hydration once a year or so imo or whatever deemed necessary for it
@@Mcsteveberry so you use lemon oil on ebony???
After about how much time did the guitar start to yellow?
That's actually a good question. I'm not exactly sure, but definitely within the first 2 years, and I kept it in its case way more than it was out.
Great video. Theses Les Pauls are a very blank slate for any musician. Only complaint I've heard from some people is ironically the size. Btw, what is the song at 5:30?
I couldn't agree more! They are the perfect canvas! As for the song, it's a song by yours truly. Just look up "Vice Grip" by Spells and Curses 🙇
@@SpellsandCurses Exactly what a signature guitar should be imo. Original music? Awesome man! Instant fan 🤘🏼
Some of those Pike albums are the best stuff I’ve ever heard
YESSSSS! The range is crazy
@@SpellsandCurses yea he’s not just a shredder. He’s the Riff King for sure
@@Skwid-Lives absolutely!
13:16 is that a song? Cause i'd like to hear more.
Current unreleased 😉😉🤫🤫
Dumb question: Do you tune it like a baritone guitar, or just use standard guitar tuning?
Not a stupid question at all! I usually go back and forth between standard and half step down tuning with this one personally. Although it can definitely handle low tuning
how do you feel about guns n roses one in a million? since you praise him i was wondering if you could transcribe those lyrics for me
I'm not a fan of that song and I believe a simple Google search will show you the lyrics
@@SpellsandCurses it also shows you how axl still isnt sorry for it
Was BH using the evh heads?
I'd have to check my pictures from that show, but I vaguely recall a 5150 head that blew out. There was also a Mesa on stage but I can't recall off the top of my head if it was a head or cab.
I have a question,where did you buy it🤨
From The Music Zoo
i got one cant play a d neck short fingers i am a vocalist who strums some cords i got 7 guitars the cheep guitar center squire bullet I mounted a bigsby the action is low its all i try to play the lead guitarist shows me my little cords then it hangs while Blow the lyrics wow ive never realized how lame i am people think i play guitar the guys want me to play but i should just sing
keep on playing!
Buckethead need one contact him! someone stole their guitars :(
I read, it was so sad! Apparently someone stole 10 of his guitars 😭
@@SpellsandCurses terrible y a custom, i think, Robin Finck makes some changes similar to the guitar, i try to find the model but I can't, He say is a Les Paul Studio, Gibson should make him some guitars :)
@@gamenow6295 they absolutely should!!
Its seems a les paul with super strat soul! How do u think?
You're not far off! But I would say it's more tele leaning than strat!
@@SpellsandCurses Nice!
In some degree, I also think les paul like a tele with Viagra lol
@@Toni-nf6ht very good point!
I remember that review!!! LOL
GET OUT! I guess we go way back then loll
@@SpellsandCurses hey I would of wrote it out the same way, that guitar is IMMACULATE.
