- Finally, part 3 of 3, the FINALE of our RAGBRAI adventure. If you missed the last 2 videos, RAGBRAI stands for the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa and was in its 49th year in 2022.
In this final episode, we cover Days 5-6-7 as we make our way into Lansing, Iowa for what was a great adventure.
**Hi, I'm Tyler and my wife Kari and I are traveling physical therapists. We started Roadtrippingpt as a way to share our adventures with family and friends as we traveled the county working various assignments. Traveling as a career was never the plan, but it found us! Having lived in 7 different states, we wanted to document and share the beauty that is the United States**

Y’all are an amazing, adorable, fun loving, and happy couple. Thank you for sharing this crazy good ride. I would love to try something like that.
Thank you very much. We appreciate that. The ride is one good adventure if you ever get the chance to do it, it’s worth it.
I am a long distance bike rider, I did RAGBRAI back in 2012, and I plan on doing it in 2023. The trick is, Carbs in the morning, Carbs for lunch, Carbs for snack, and Protein, and lots of it, for supper, so it will have time to digest. I wasnt a drinker of Gatorade, until 2012, during RAGBRAI, because it was so very hot, first three days broke records. Gatorade, kept me going. Just a tip from a old bike rider :)
That definitely is a good plan for food. Needed that intake on the last day and did not get enough. Next year will likely being trying much harder on nutrition to help with the end of the week fatigue. Appreciate the tip! Maybe see you out there 2023.
Great Video!! I always watch tons of videos leading up to RAGBRAI, so I can see others experiences. 2023 wil be #7 for me and I'm bringing an amazing friend that will be her first time! We hope to see you along the route this year!!
Thank you. Wow 7! That’s a lot of rides. We are excited for our second. Sounds like you two are going to have a fun time. Hopefully we will run into each other, we will be there.
Love the videos! Not overly-edited, honest in-the-moment reactions!
I'm exactly like you as for motivation! I lost the love of my life last year and was sort of 'rudderless,' and saw this Ryan Van Duzer guy in my stream for some reason and clicked: immediately knew that's how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.
Quit my job, got the bike, officially retired and have been training for 8 months now. Take off next March, west out of GA, five months of wandering and then ending up at RAGBRAI's 50th before heading to NYC and a plane trip to Europe, where I will get lost and spend the rest of my life seeing everything I can (politics permitting) across Europe and down into Africa and back up and out again!
You guys rocked this RAGBRAI! Great job! Stay safe!
Thank you so much. Appreciate the comment.
I’m so sorry for your loss, but it sounds like you have found a good purpose and I find Duzer so motivating. Wow! Sounds like you have one big amazing adventure coming up. We will look for you at Ragbrai 50.
Good luck with your training. Keep enjoying life and your adventure! To do something so big like that sounds like a great challenge and worth all the hard work.
Loved this nice and flat no mountain passes we are in Washington we would just love to do this. We are in our 70s and we are going to do it. Looks a lot more than our Seattle to Portland ride
It is absolutely worth it. Very fun and enjoyable ride. Going to it this year?
I was out there on the road with you folks and what I am reminded of over and over again is how we are all taken back to that time in our lives when we first discovered the adventure that riding a bike could provide regardless of the shape of the journey we’re all just left smiling at the joy of it all
That is one of the best ways to describe the Ragbrai atmosphere. It’s pure joy all week long.
Great job on this 3 part RAGBRAI series. This was the first RAGBRAI that I have missed since 2014. I skipped it on the hope that my daughter(29) will join me again for the 50th anniversary in 2013. It'll be her second.
I have also finally convinced 4 friends of mine to join in, and finally dip their wheels in Iowa. I have sent them a link to your video series, as well as Brently and MB's, and Van Duzers too. Let's try to convince Amelia and Ryan to have a team...Team Boone-VanDuzer, or "The BVD's" HA!
I hope to see you both in Pork Camp next year!
Cheers,
Rusty Click

Thank you so much. Appreciate the comment. Hope you are able to convince your daughter and have a great time! We are excited for this year being our second as well.
Sounds like you will have a good group going with you. Thanks for sharing our video, and always enjoy Brently and MB as well as Duzer! Haha that would be a great team!
We are counting down the days to sign up for pork belly! See you there. Enjoy training.
You guys did a great job with the video putting all of this together. Its one thing to ride RAGBRAI, but putting a 3 part series together is another. Your content was great, your emotions were real and i look forward to watching next year. On a side note, when i saw you eating crackers and cheese, i had a feeling it would catch up with you. Ive learned my lesson on how to ruin a ride by eating the wrong foods over the years.
Thank you, we really appreciate that. The ride was challenging, but organizing that footage ended up being much harder than I thought. Really happy you enjoyed it. As for the crackers and cheese, oh man did that make for a bad day. That was a lesson learned the hard way and will be remembering that for next year!
You captured some great stories, nice job.
The Dad and his daughter taking his buddy’s ashes on the ride, very emotional friendship..
The lady riding for our Veterans (You Matter)
Awesome. Just to mention a few. I say, I say Great job. (Foghorn)
Thank you! That was amazing to see and very emotional. The lady was so nice too! And darn foghorn. Couldn’t remember him that day. Can’t wait for next year.
It was like reliving the end of RAGBRAI all over again, makes me said and even more excited for next year! Except the headwinds into Charles City…. I forgot how hard that was !!!
I love looking back at these for memories. I cannot explain how amazing it was to do this with you. Haha and those headwinds, my goodness.
Great Video man, we saw ourselves along the way in here when you interview the You Matter group. Hope you guys do RAGBRAI 50. We’ll be there
Ryan and Beth
Louisiana
Thank you. Oh awesome, it always amazes me such a small world. We are already trying to see how we can plan work so we don’t miss Ragbrai 50. Maybe we will see you out there!
Also, worked a short summer in Louisiana. Now that’s a humid state.
Maybe I'll run into you guys next year on RAGBRAI 50. I'll be a newbie!! :) Happy trails!!
Sounds good! We plan to be there. They had a newbie meeting last year which was fun and we met some good friends there. See you at Ragbrai 50!
Casey's pizza is pretty solid pizza. It compares to many chain pizza places.
Was definitely a must try on Ragbrai!
Thank you for all the effort you guys put in to making great content. RAGBRAI is always amazing but this year's weather was the best ever. The Midwest can get really hot and humid the last week of July. Next year will be EPIC! It will definitely go through Des Moines the state capital. I also live in California, but try to make it to the land of corn and hogs for this ride. I'm a member of Team Inferno (RV burned to the ground in 2015) team members find residents in the host towns that allow our team to camp at their homes. Really cool way to experience small town America, all the generous loving people I've met on RAGBRAI that open their homes to a band of gypsies. Pork Belly's is definitely the way to go, I've done some other rides with Tammy and Pete they're the best. Hard to get the feel of all the wonderful vibes that RAGBRAI brings you did a great job and first timers that maybe hadn't ridden all that much you two were incredible. 100 miles! next year 50th yeah
Really appreciate this comment. It took a lot of time and effort and happy to hear people enjoyed it. We were so lucky with weather and cannot wait until it’s time to sign up again!
Far journey from California, and I see why so many people make it out there. The teams look like a good option too, but I was really impressed with pork belly. Quite the set up.
Thanks again for the support! Looking to next year!
@@TylerandKari Dude I met a guy today out by Knights Ferry wearing a RAGBRIA jersey , IT WAS YOUR DAD! OMG seven degrees of RAGBRIA
@@frankcauthorn1472 haha he told me. So crazy/small world. He is excited for this upcoming year.
loved the videos! i am registered for my first Ragbrai for 2023. PBV all the way! I am already a thousand miles into training and will be ready. slowly gathering all of my camping stuff. hope to see you there!
Thank you, really appreciate the comment. Alright! You won’t be disappointed. They are great. Wow 1,000 already. That’s great. We are about 100 lol but getting there. Looking forward to it. I’m sure we will meet.
Love watching these videos and re-living it with y’all. Hahaha also love that I am on video saying “there isn’t enough chamois butter in the world.” Very true statement!!!
Thanks Maggie. Hahaha that literally makes us laugh every time. Probably most true statement on all of Ragbrai!
The bird is fog horn leg horn or also the Governor of SC Henry McMaster.
You are correct!
I love driving in Iowa due to people being very nice and no aggressive
Seems like a state full of nice people.
So cool to be in your video! Are you guys coming to the 50th?
Glad to have met you. We will 💯be there and filming again. Hopefully we can catch up and chat again.
I’m training to do a 43km rail trail (about 27 miles) here in Aotearoa, in a few weeks time, watching your seven days of riding puts my anticipated one day ride in the pale somewhat 😂 Thanks for this wonderful journey with you both. ❤
Hey that’s awesome! Our first training ride was only 15 miles and completely wiped us out so that’s great hitting 27 on a rail trail. Thanks for watching, happy you enjoyed it. Good luck with your ride!
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you.
It takes me seven miles or 30 minutes for my liver to kick into gear and double my energy with a high ketone production. But, that 50/50 burn(fat/sugar) doesn't keep going unless more carbs are consumed. My favorite for long rides, roasted sweet potatoes.
Roasted sweet potatoes sound delicious too. Not a common food I found on Ragbrai but sounds like a great training ride idea.
Buses Bikes and Beers is now BBB adventures.
We just saw there name change. Such a nice couple.
For good rides without stomach cramps don't mix fat and carbs. You can only eat cheese and do great. You can only eat sweet potatoes and do even greater. Let the stomach work efficiently with a single choice and life riding is much better.
I’ll have to try that next ride. Thanks for the tip
Foghorn Leghorn perhaps?
Dave, I say I say I say… you’re right
That’s it! I had to look that up when I got home. Could not remember the name that day.
Do you have a drone with you or did you barrow someone shot?
That one in that video was us taking it.
Sam "leghorn" Is the rooster you are talking about .
I meant "Foghorn Leghorn" lol 😂
Lol that’s the one. I couldn’t remember him that day, classic character.
How did you charge your ebike?
We went with a charter service and they had a generator for people with e bikes to charge nightly. (Pork belly).
Hi guys,
Been watching your ragbrai videos and trying to convince my family to do it with me next year….I was wondering how the ebike worked? As my wife will ride one…..Do you bring extra batteries for the long ride? Or use charging stations at town stops?
Hi
So the ebiked worked amazingly! It was the difference between Kari doing Ragbrai verse not doing. With her bike we did not need an extra battery. However, she rides at a relaxed pace on flat ground with the battery off most of the time and used it when we had a head wind or going up a hill or near the end of the day when we new she had plenty of battery life to spare. Even on the 100 mile day, she had quite a bit of battery left. Having said that, we met many people who had various types of e bikes and many of them had a spare batter and the would switch out half way and use it more during the ride. There is also a service, they stop at pork chop each day and offer charging. I forget the name, but the Ragbrai Facebook groups would for sure know. And many of the charters if you sign up offer charging at night.
How did you charge your. Wife’s e bike battery?
So we went with pork belly charter and every night they have a generator for anyone wanting to charge their e bikes. I think quite a few charters offer this service. If you don’t have a charter service, I do know there was a general charger service and the guy would set up next to a stop daily. If you have two batteries he would hand you yours full and you would swap them out daily
It’s all about how much your butt and your gut can take.
Haha so true. I didn’t realize this until half way through. Then the last day killed me lol. If that isn’t a Ragbrai slogan, then it should be! I need to make a shirt saying that.
Not riding down tube shifters on a surly.....SHAME!
That would be a nice set up. First surly and impressed with it. The bike shop had it custom made as it is, and only bike my size. I’ve been very impressed with there build though. Good quality bike.
downtube shifters bolt right on. Its lighter and reduces cable housing to just the few inches at the rear derailleur. You can replace a snapped cable in under a minute. Broken housing cannot be fixed. I ride a surly too. I just feel a duty to tell people down tube shifters are best.
