Hello, I am the guy on the little Neutrino that you and I got to talk for a moment. Really nice to have met you both and you both do a great job on the video. RAGBRAI was a hard ride...lots of heat and it was really hot to camp but I got to meet many wonderful people. Congratulations on finishing and great job on the recap. Cheers and I hope to meet again down the road...will buy you a beer and your wife a cinnamon roll...she seem to love those...
Hey, great talking with you and hearing about the bike and your adventures. Thank you as well, we appreciate it. Such a hard ride, and especially this year. Cheers, and hopefully will cross paths in the future.
Thank you. Appreciate it. I’m sure we probably passed each other at some point along the week and didn’t even know it. Pork belly was quite big this year, I was surprised.
I had a awesome time riding the bus with you and your dad, We all had a super fun time all week riding off and on together, Tyler absolutely right I won the lottery in meeting you all and buses bike and beers. Really do appreciate it at the end especially when you and your dad met me at the end dip site. Thank you both for helping me.i am ready for my second Ragbrai already. Also glad to meet the whole family at Sioux city start point. Franklin Power, I really surprised myself in completing 507 miles, longest I ever riden in my life, my training definitely paid off before Ragbrai 50 . Take care you and Kari, 😊❤
We had a great time. It was a good week of riding with friends. Happy we could help! And we appreciated the encouragement throughout the ride as well. Take care and keep training!
That's right training never stops , I will be a stronger rider next year 💪 and a little bit lighter on weight almost at my goal weight , I have lost 138 pounds to date ,a far cry from a all time high of 354 lbs my goal is 195 to 205 ,roughly about 25 to 27 pounds to go. I got this ,Franklin Power.
Hey, we chatted briefly on the route about my ebike and rehabbing my acl. I thought I recognized you on the bike but I wasn't sure. I saw your ragbrai plate as you pedaled on but we didn't cross paths again. Very cool to briefly say hello.
I definitely remember the ACL conversation. We are physical therapists and I remember thinking about that! It was very nice meeting you and being able to chat. Hope the acl held up nicely and you enjoyed the ride.
Did my first RAGBRAI in 2021 after watching Ryan Van Duzer’s videos and Brently & Marybeth’s BBB Adventures videos. Didn’t my second this year, both years were so hot! Adding your channel to my subscription. Really nice video. You two are naturals on camera! Your smiles just light up the video!
I think you skipped the cool temp year in 2022. That’s awesome though. Ryan and BBB adventures are who inspired us to try Ragbrai as well. Love their UA-cam videos. And thank you for subscribing. Appreciate it very much and thanks for the comment.
Thanks for sharing. It was great bumping into you both of you at one of the camp grounds. Day 1 wasn't easy. Wait until you show day 5 and 6 with the hills plus heat. Thanks again.
Glad we could meet and thanks for watching. And we couldn’t agree more. The end of the week was brutal. Thursday and Friday back to back was crazy with that heat.
Day 1 was cake compare to Day 5 and 6. Between consecutive hills and heat, both days were gruesome and that wicked tornado storm in Coraville helped cool things down but that burst the bubble for the Bush concert. I was looking forward to seeing them and had good view too.
I watched your videos of 2022 recently and am happy you have posted 2023. This year you are old hands...much more relaxed than last year. Not newbies anymore. I live in Ames, Iowa so I love hearing what people think of Iowa. It's beautiful, especially this time of year. Best of luck on the ride...I'll catch up with you at the end. I also follow Duzer, having found him after RAGBRAI 2022.
Happy you enjoyed them both. We felt much more relaxed knowing a little bit of the whole organization of the ride that's for sure. Despite that, the ride was no easier lol. Still a challenge. Thank you very much. Duzer has such an awesome channel. Thanks for saying hi!
Thank you so much for documenting and sharing your experiences! Super grateful for your content and all that you do to encourage folks to get out and have life changing adventures. Thank you and never stop creating, y’all are awesome! Shout outs from Sanger, CA!
Great watching your video. I was staying with Pork Belly also. Wish I could have seen you guys there as I watched last year and truly enjoyed you videos.
Thank you. There were so many people with pork belly this year, bummer we didn’t get to run into each other and chat. We likely are going again, so who knows, maybe in a future event!
So looking forward to seeing you release your perspective of this madness. 😂 I enjoyed it all myself and was surprised that out of all the people I did run into while riding RAGBRAI, I said hi to Kari somewhere along the route. Thanks for sharing your adventures and look forward to all of them! Nothing but the best wishes and I hope your channel will continue to grow, you both deserve it!
Haha hopefully it does the ride justice. It’s amazing that despite that many riders, you can still find people throughout it. What a blast. Appreciate the support and hopefully you enjoyed it. Thank you very much, 🙏
By far one of the best recaps I have seen of day 1. You did lots, nailed the Iowa people and their excitement, and showed how brutal that first days was. I also fought cramps on day 1 even with going through almost 20 bottles of liquids on that day. Be well and can't wait to see more.
Thank you very much. Appreciate the comment. Day one was a tough way to start for sure. Happy we were able to capture some of Ragbrai/Iowa and it’s beauty. It’s like i couldn’t get enough fluids. That heat was something else with the hills. Hope the rest of your ride was good, even Thursday and Friday!
Hi Guys - Great content and really bringing back the memories. Shout out to Roy & Tammy, so great to meet you guys from your English Neighbours in Tent 84. Eagerly awaiting your new releases.
Hey Ian, great to be tent neighbors for the week. You and your son Paul were very cordial. Are you still in Iowa or did you go back to London. Tammy and I are doing well..
Man that was a fun week and an amazing ride! To be on the road with that many cyclist at one time is still absolutely mind-blowing to me. Thanks so much for taking time to visit with us, it was great to meet you both! Hit us up if you’re ever in NW Arkansas… Mt. Bike Capital of the World!
One of the best weeks of the year! It’s quite insane just how many people show up and ride. It was our pleasure. Very nice meeting you. Definitely will! One of our friends just went to Bentonville I think it’s called. Said it was near some good biking areas.
Yes... NWA has some great cycling... Road, Greenway, Mountain, Gravel, etc etc. Also some great backpacking on the Ozark Highlands Trail and kayaking on the Buffalo River.
What a great first Ragbria for us Mom and Dad. It’s ride name was definitely appropriate… One “ L” of a ride.. What will our second ride bring? We shall see.🚴♂️🚴♂️ Ride on everyone.
That’s awesome you were able to hang out with him during the week. Such a great guy. Duzer definitely is a huge inspiration and role model to that kid.
Thank you. We had a great time making them. What a great way to enjoy a vacation with family. Some of our best memories too. Yeah unfortunately couldn’t make it this year with work. Trying to make it in 2025 for a comeback year.
Hi! I will also be joining the Pork Belly charter this year. This will be my first RAGBRAI and looking forward to the hilly challenge. I will look out for you two. Wondering what you have re-thought for year 2024, what you are going to be doing differently and anything that you think folks should definitely buy for comfort on the bike ride/sleeping? Any information is helpful. How much water do you think you consumed on the longest ride?
Alright, congrats on signing up for RAGBRAI. We loved pork belly, they are such a great support. So, we have learned a few things. First, leave earlier each morning to make the days feel a little shorter on the bike in the hot summer sun. As for bikes, I just won't be riding mountain bike next time. Will be on a road or gravel style bike. Will make it easier. Our second ragbrai we learned a lot. That was mostly have a comfortable sleeping pad, a battery powered fan to hang in your tent is a life saver, and some type of small pillow. For water, we always had two bottles (big ones like 30oz), and there were plenty of places to fill up. During a long day, I think we consumed probably six of those. We brought the Costco liquid IV the first year, and the second year tried hammer nutrition. Honestly, we liked the Costco Liquid IV and Kari liked gatorade powder packs. When you are dying of thirst, they taste way better than plane water.
It truly is a very fun, but challenging ride. The heat was difficult to deal with this year. I’m not sure exactly why July. I believe the first few years it was in august and was moved to the last of July. Definitely helps to allow time for the corn to grow taller for bathroom breaks.
That was such a crazy week I forgot about all the fun stuff from day 1. Even forgot how long and hard just day 1 was! Also, I wonder if anyone broke our water bottle record?!
Way tougher than last year for sure. So much fun though and so much to see. I was wondering the same thing. Someone had to buy more, but idk, 10 was a lot.

Nice recap. We must have been at the same campsites as we also used Pork Belly Ventures and the shuttle from Davenport to Sioux City.
Thank you. Appreciate it. I’m sure we probably passed each other at some point along the week and didn’t even know it. Pork belly was quite big this year, I was surprised.
I have watched a lot of RAGBRAI videos yours is my favorite!
Thank you so much. We really appreciate that. Happy we could share something that’s enjoyable to watch. Working on the 2nd and 3rd parts of 2023 now.
Great job capturing Day 1. Nice to see the inside of the tentmahal with all your fancy accoutrements.
Thank you, really appreciate it coming from you two! Haha it surprising isn’t as big as you would think after we unload all our stuff.
Looking forward to the rest of this series! Never done RAGBRAI, but I want to!
We definitely recommend it. Such a cool experience!
Thank you. It’s one fun and challenging event. Well worth the experience.
Fun times for sure !tghnx for sharing!
👍 thanks for watching!
Great video! Love those Kingsley “Sandlot” kids selling water!!😂
Thank you very much. Haha we literally laughed out loud right now. Those kids were hilarious and the sandlot reference is perfect for them.
Perfect way to describe them, those kids were awesome!!
Man I can’t wait to go back to Iowa
Seriously. One of the best adventures we have ever been on! You doing full bikepacking all your stuff?

Definitely a party on two wheels! But not without some challenges and struggles throughout.

Funny thing I hung out with duzer all week camping and riding and that kid was so cute following him around all day lol

And don’t miss out on team duzer gravel day

Did kari get a new turbo vado from last year or is it the same specialized from last year. Kari really know to conserve her battery.
It’s the same one. Still going strong! And yes she does. Lots of preparation and focus to conserve that battery since we don’t have a backup.
Like your video I still watch it , did the ride with my son, we rode early! Great memories, didn’t see you this year though! ??
