Ryan thank you for the shout out to the Air Force team. It's part of the team charter to stop and assist anyone with a mechanical or medical issue. We changed hundreds of flat tubes, turned lots of broken chains into single speed gear so the rider could make it to the next town, helped the Care ambulance team by directing traffic, and more. The team is made up of active duty, guard and reserve, civil service, and dependents. All team members pay their own way. Thanks again for the recognition!
I rode with the Air Force team in 2007. It was a great experience. I expected to do it again but haven't done it since then. I was active duty then and am retired now - I'll have to check and see if retirees can join the squad.

After being a long time cyclist, I found myself needing help to even walk 18 months ago because of a neurological issue. It was a difficult journey out of a dark place and you helped keep my spirits up. Looks like we made a cameo appearance at the 19:30 mark. Black Castelli kit with a red stripe. I probably watched your videos a hundred times when I couldn't ride myself just to keep hope alive. You've meant a great deal my friend. Last month I rode 923 miles including all of RAGBRAI.

My cousin met you one year on RAGBRAI and told me about it in the overnight town. After seeing your insta that you were coming, i thought maybe this was the year and it wasn't. After seeing this video it hit me: you are meant to meet the people you meet. You always seem to inspire people you meet. I don't require that inspiration; i have it within me. I've done Ragbrai the last 12 years. In 8 days, 450 miles, and tens of thousands of people, I saw 1 Biden shirt and 1 decked out Maga truck. That was it!!! So much fun, and man, did we escape the heat! 5 days after Ragbrai, the heat index was 99°, at 11:00 at night!! Thanks for capturing a typical day of Ragbrai! Excellent job!

You can do it! There are people of all skill levels that ride it from kids to people in their 80s! It's got something for everyone. So set aside the time and just do it. You've got a year to get ready.
No worries. Ragbrai is maybe 10 miles between each town. Some people really commit to training and some don’t. It’s a pretty chill pace and plenty of places and times to rest

Next year, you should try doing Ragbrai on a $300 Walmart tandem to show people you can do Ragbrai on a budget without a charter. We did it this year, and it was awesome despite everything from Walmart breaking down. Xoxo, your fans!!
Another great video Ryan! 👍 You've captured so much! Inspiration is your middle name! There's so much positive feedback I could be giving you about everything you captured in this video, but there are too many segments to comment on. It's very positive to hear all the different people's stories and watch some of the events. It's understandable how Ragbrai could be so successful in Iowa because it's spread out, doesn't have a lot of spectacular scenery, and the hills are not so big, so people can focus on the activity of riding and socializing in a great way. I'm glad you still have a girlfriend and you could go together. It looks like a great opportunity for her to get her toes washed and give them some opportunity to heal themselves from whatever she has going on. It looked like maybe she had some toenail loss from trauma. I smacked one of my toes while mtn biking and it's taking forever for the toenail to come back. I wonder if that's what she has going on also. If not, the alcohol will probably kill whatever is growing there. 🤣 That guy at around 21:00 from riding across USA from Washington had some great points about how the media divides us. The chicken 💩 was funny and social. Thanks for sharing.
Boone is a beast on the course, 100 mile races, whatever torture race she competes in. Plus, she is a high powered lawyer. She is the epitome of MOTIVATION. I am glad to see she is mobile with damage to her wheels.
Thanks for recording your time this year at ragbrai. I was there also and Found that after the first day my face hurt from smiling so much! It’s like the greatest County fair ever…but on bicycles. It’s a seven day long reminder of the joy I first found on a bike some 62 years ago on a farm not very far from this years route. Such a grand simple pleasure shared
I appreciate the intention of the folks interviewed who talk about how loving and wonderful people are in real life in contrast the divided politics portrayed in the news. But it's a lot easier to be treated nice when one is perceived as middle class, white, cis, nondisabled, etc. As someone from rural areas who is nonwhite, not cis, not straight: sometimes people will be nice to you one minute then vote to try to eradicate you the next (via legislation that reduces rights and puts people at risk of death). And they will not see any problem with that.
Completely agree. As someone who rode this year with a political sign on my bicycle, it was my intention to make sure that I use my privilege as a cis white woman as much as possible.
That’s the unfortunate truth. It was heartening to see some people riding with pride flags or other political/human rights signs. Hoping for more of that!

I've lived in Iowa since age 15 and now 58. On and off about 30 years now. I love seeing ragbri tents all over. My mom lives in Algona and they hosted riders to tent in there yard and and use the shower ect. I live in sioux city and we have had riders here. I did live near Ida Grove...cute town.
Funny. I've never heard of, or seen your channel before but I am from Battle Creek, Iowa and this day 1 video was just recommended to me. I watched it to see you highlight all these areas around me. You skipped over my home town, but I recognized your whole trip. Around Ida Grove we all take for granted the scenery, but its neat that you post it for the rest of the world to see. Ryan! Saw your thoughts on the FB shot off Amelia’s foot. I’m 3.5 years alcohol free and that did not offend me. I thought it was very creative and fun! I have 2 kids, who are older, but if you suppress the stigma, it just becomes dogma. Keep up the good work. And tell Amelia, I thought I had ugly toes. 🤣🤣🤣

This was the first year since 2014 that I haven't ridden RAGBRAI (insert frownie face here). You and Amelia look sooo very happy! I'm glad that you two are sharing that great ride together. Also very happy that you ran into Brently and MaryBeth. They are great people. BTW, I'm a recent convert to the ElevenPine brand based on word of mouth mainly, but your recent endorsement pushed me into "buy" mode and since yours is a voice in the cycling community that I trust, I got 'em! They're great. I will be back in the corn next year for the L ride. My daughter joined me in 2021 for her first, and will ride with me again next year...I am so stoked that she made that time for me last year, had a great time, and actually wants to ride in Iowa again next year. Brought back many fine memories of riding RAGBRAI from 1978 through 1983. Met my wife to be on RAGBRAI in 1978. Just about 7000 riders then, and the ride was free! Such a great community event. My group, Lake Country Cyclists of Minnesota was known for playing John Philip Sousa marches on kazoos as we entered every new town. What a blast. Thanks for the ride with you on this year's RAGBRAI. In the summer of 2019 I rediscovered how much I loved cycling when I was a kid. Since then I have ridden about 4600 miles, as of this morning. I've done over 1500 this year. This is on a hard tail XC bike. I have a Trek Checkpoint SL5 on order for the spring, just in time for my 60th b'day. Group riding, and more climbing are on the agenda for next year. And now after discovering your videos, RAGBRAI is now on the list, as well. Probably not in 2023, but it's on the list.

Amelia is beyond cool! I love your RAGBRAI trips. There is so much positive energy in them. I’m currently recovering from prostate cancer brachytherapy treatment. I haven’t been able to ride a bicycle for months, something I really loved to do, so I can only watch and hope that I can ride again in a few months. Your videos help me as I transition to cancer survivorship.
It has been a pleasure to meet Amelia. She is charming. Thanks for the video coverage of Ragbrai. I remember when you did Ragbrai on your trip from Portland to Washington DC. Lots of fun. I am going to try to go next year to Ragbrai.
So much to unpack in this video. I'm not sure that it truly hit you that the young man said he was thinking of ending his life and then he saw your videos and he decided instead to "get out there". The other point that really hit was the couple that sold their tv and was riding across county and made that point that one on one we are all so much alike, but somehow the country is viewed as divided. It's pretty crazy that on the large scale view the country is divided, but on the small scale we are so much alike.
Sittin' here in the UK where the US often comes via the Scary News Channels or even the totally wholesome but still depressing Guardian, it is fundamentally reassuring to hear that people there are still people with the same hopes and fears as most people do, most of the time. And now somehow I have to get meself to Iowa next year, 'cos the loveliest folks are there, on their bikes, and life is too short to miss it.
We just got back to Phoenix after riding RAGBRAI and visiting relatives in Iowa. I watched the video and I want to go back and do it all again. We had so much fun! Everyone asks 'how many RAGBRAIs have you done?' and my first response is that I have 40 year old T-shirts. We've brought our kids along as teenagers and adults. I have met so many wonderful people over the years and had great experiences (fantastic host couple in Ida Grove! Thanks again Dr. and Mrs. Veltri!) Still, I watch this and have a twinge of FOMO. You experience all you can, but there's always so much more. Thanks, Ryan for sharing this little slice of heaven (Yes it is Iowa) with the world.

Nice new tent setup. Trekology Pillow: Affordable. Own two of them. Both developed very minute slow leaks within a month of use. Still using mine. I re-inflate mine every week, but I never max it out. Always run it under-inflated for comfort, and keep a pillow case on it for extra style points and as a way to keep it clean.

Next year, you should try doing Ragbrai on a $300 Walmart tandem to show people you can do Ragbrai on a budget without a charter. We did it this year, and it was awesome despite everything from Walmart breaking down.

Another great video Ryan! 👍 You've captured so much! Inspiration is your middle name! There's so much positive feedback I could be giving you about everything you captured in this video, but there are too many segments to comment on. It's very positive to hear all the different people's stories and watch some of the events. It's understandable how Ragbrai could be so successful in Iowa because it's spread out, doesn't have a lot of spectacular scenery, and the hills are not so big, so people can focus on the activity of riding and socializing in a great way. I'm glad you still have a girlfriend and you could go together. It looks like a great opportunity for her to get her toes washed and give them some opportunity to heal themselves from whatever she has going on. It looked like maybe she had some toenail loss from trauma. I smacked one of my toes while mtn biking and it's taking forever for the toenail to come back. I wonder if that's what she has going on also. If not, the alcohol will probably kill whatever is growing there. 🤣 That guy at around 21:00 from riding across USA from Washington had some great points about how the media divides us. The chicken 💩 was funny and social. Thanks for sharing.
Boone is a beast on the course, 100 mile races, whatever torture race she competes in. Plus, she is a high powered lawyer. She is the epitome of MOTIVATION. I am glad to see she is mobile with damage to her wheels.

Thanks for recording your time this year at ragbrai. I was there also and Found that after the first day my face hurt from smiling so much! It’s like the greatest County fair ever…but on bicycles. It’s a seven day long reminder of the joy I first found on a bike some 62 years ago on a farm not very far from this years route. Such a grand simple pleasure shared

I appreciate the intention of the folks interviewed who talk about how loving and wonderful people are in real life in contrast the divided politics portrayed in the news. But it's a lot easier to be treated nice when one is perceived as middle class, white, cis, nondisabled, etc. As someone from rural areas who is nonwhite, not cis, not straight: sometimes people will be nice to you one minute then vote to try to eradicate you the next (via legislation that reduces rights and puts people at risk of death). And they will not see any problem with that.

Completely agree. As someone who rode this year with a political sign on my bicycle, it was my intention to make sure that I use my privilege as a cis white woman as much as possible.
That’s the unfortunate truth. It was heartening to see some people riding with pride flags or other political/human rights signs. Hoping for more of that!

I've lived in Iowa since age 15 and now 58. On and off about 30 years now. I love seeing ragbri tents all over. My mom lives in Algona and they hosted riders to tent in there yard and and use the shower ect. I live in sioux city and we have had riders here. I did live near Ida Grove...cute town.

Funny. I've never heard of, or seen your channel before but I am from Battle Creek, Iowa and this day 1 video was just recommended to me. I watched it to see you highlight all these areas around me. You skipped over my home town, but I recognized your whole trip. Around Ida Grove we all take for granted the scenery, but its neat that you post it for the rest of the world to see. This was the first year since 2014 that I haven't ridden RAGBRAI (insert frownie face here). You and Amelia look sooo very happy! I'm glad that you two are sharing that great ride together. Also very happy that you ran into Brently and MaryBeth. They are great people.
BTW, I'm a recent convert to the ElevenPine brand based on word of mouth mainly, but your recent endorsement pushed me into "buy" mode and since yours is a voice in the cycling community that I trust, I got 'em! They're great.
I will be back in the corn next year for the L ride. My daughter joined me in 2021 for her first, and will ride with me again next year...I am so stoked that she made that time for me last year, had a great time, and actually wants to ride in Iowa again next year. She is such a total athlete and trainer that she breezed right along. We hope to meet and talk with you out there!

Brought back many fine memories of riding RAGBRAI from 1978 through 1983. Met my wife to be on RAGBRAI in 1978. Just about 7000 riders then, and the ride was free! Such a great community event. My group, Lake Country Cyclists of Minnesota was known for playing John Philip Sousa marches on kazoos as we entered every new town. What a blast. Thanks for the ride with you on this year's RAGBRAI. In the summer of 2019 I rediscovered how much I loved cycling when I was a kid. Since then I have ridden about 4600 miles, as of this morning. I've done over 1500 this year. This is on a hard tail XC bike. I have a Trek Checkpoint SL5 on order for the spring, just in time for my 60th b'day. Group riding, and more climbing are on the agenda for next year. And now after discovering your videos, RAGBRAI is now on the list, as well. Probably not in 2023, but it's on the list.
No words could possibly convey our joy for you and our renewed faith in the world knowing goodness need not exist alone and is worthy of friendship and personal connection. So beautiful, so much love and joy to you both and to the hope of genuine experience and meaningful sharing ahead.

Amelia is beyond cool! I love your RAGBRAI trips. There is so much positive energy in them. I’m currently recovering from prostate cancer brachytherapy treatment. I haven’t been able to ride a bicycle for months, something I really loved to do, so I can only watch and hope that I can ride again in a few months. Your videos help me as I transition to cancer survivorship.

So much to unpack in this video. I'm not sure that it truly hit you that the young man said he was thinking of ending his life and then he saw your videos and he decided instead to "get out there". The other point that really hit was the couple that sold their tv and was riding across county and made that point that one on one we are all so much alike, but somehow the country is viewed as divided. It's pretty crazy that on the large scale view the country is divided, but on the small scale we are so much alike.

Sittin' here in the UK where the US often comes via the Scary News Channels or even the totally wholesome but still depressing Guardian, it is fundamentally reassuring to hear that people there are still people with the same hopes and fears as most people do, most of the time. And now somehow I have to get meself to Iowa next year, 'cos the loveliest folks are there, on their bikes, and life is too short to miss it.
I hope you can make it to Iowa someday for Ragbrai! It truly is special, and my video only shows a small portion of the magic. Cheers!
We just got back to Phoenix after riding RAGBRAI and visiting relatives in Iowa. I watched the video and I want to go back and do it all again. We had so much fun! Everyone asks 'how many RAGBRAIs have you done?' and my first response is that I have 40 year old T-shirts. We've brought our kids along as teenagers and adults. I have met so many wonderful people over the years and had great experiences (fantastic host couple in Ida Grove! Thanks again Dr. and Mrs. Veltri!) Still, I watch this and have a twinge of FOMO. You experience all you can, but there's always so much more. Thanks, Ryan for sharing this little slice of heaven (Yes it is Iowa) with the world.
I want to do it again as well!! It's such a special event, with so many wonderful people. See you next year!

Nice new tent setup. Trekology Pillow: Affordable. Own two of them. Both developed very minute slow leaks within a month of use. Still using mine. I re-inflate mine every week, but I never max it out. Always run it under-inflated for comfort, and keep a pillow case on it for extra style points and as a way to keep it clean.
