HS Music Teacher here. I assigned the "play whatever you want and submit the video" assignment too. It's the first one for the year. The purpose has nothing to do with the playing, it's about making sure the kids know how to take video and upload it. You'd be amazed how many of these media-obsessed weekend-warrior twitch streamers will come in on monday and claim that uploading a video was too complicated. Gotta start by going over the basics (click the upload button...not that hard...) EDIT: And for the record (you said to call you out if you didn't follow the instructions)...you probably didn't do this assignment correctly if you just emailed them the video. That's exactly what I don't want my students to do.
Is it still wrong if the video was uploaded to youtube, just unlisted and they sent a link of the unlisted video in the email? Thus showing the prowess of not only knowing how to edit and upload but change to unlisted?
@@RainbowDemon Depends on the class. Sometimes that's exactly what I want them to do. But attaching it to an assignment in Google Classroom is a different process, and allows for different things. If the assignment is to upload it to google classroom and you upload it to youtube...then yeah, that would be the wrong way to do the assignment.
@@RainbowDemon Haha, yeah that's probably not obvious if you haven't been in school during this whole pandemic thing. Google classroom is a digital class organization tool that pretty much every school is using. Kids log into it with their school emails, and all the assignments/instructions/resources get posted there. Then they can "turn in" assignments by uploading their work into the system. Without some kind of system like that, you'd have hundreds of students just trying to attach assignments to emails or whatever and it'd be a massive mess. Google Classroom has been around for years, some teachers (myself included) were using it long before Covid. But basically everyone is using it now because it's the best way to do any kind of distance learning.
That's the joke, high-school band students especially either don't know how to follow instructions or follow them to the point of being hardcore bootlickers, no in-between.
After Covid is over, you could probably contact the school administrators or a different teacher to get permission to walk into a classroom (or join an online class during covid) as a student to mess with them.
I would almost feel bad for the directors that let him in because they were probably hoping to get some new kid who is great at drumming and then he never replies lol.

This reminds me of when I wanted to join my middle school percussion, and my band director denied my request every time and even told me to do a random word, that from his terms was a drumline, in front of the class in order to join. I could not do it because I had never heard of that drumline before and he made fun of me because of it, I had taken 3 years of percussion lessons prior to asking to join... I stuck to flute for the next 5 years and in high school played percussion whenever a student was not able to cover their part.
i love how you have an actual metronome, i think we might but we never use it and the trumpets use a cowbell and a drum stick, and from what i see (i’m a baritone) percussion just uses the percussion director clicking his sticks together to keep time.

My senior year, I decided to challenge myself and see if I could get on one of the bases. My teacher said he thinks I would do better on cannon. Before the game started we would do track marching in my first time around it was difficult but, I ended up being able to do it. I have only heard of two other people with visual impairments marching while playing a drum. I’m pretty sure there are more people doing it now but the reason I was put on front ensemble first was because it would be more easier and reasonable for me.
I'm the tenors for my highschool band and we have a cadence set called 'Kickbutt Cadences'. Because of how the guys played it I don't follow the music to the T but still basics. My drumline coach was looking at me because we added a couple little notes around the cadence
