Yo, man. Your videos are pretty entertaining. I’m from Delaware, went and taught at UofD, and marched with The Commandants Own. The kids I teach at Delaware Military Academy watch your vids and get pumped! Keep up the vids. You are inspiring all sorts of people. Cheers.
Didn't know you auditioned for the Old Guard! I come from the fife and drum corps world and it never seems like anyone in DCI really knows anything about it. I think a lot more people have joined the Old Guard where I'm from than have marched DCI
In Norfolk, Virginia, the Fife & Drum is very well known...Even Williamsburg has it's own very good nationally known group...the waiting list is two years long !! We are blessed to have the Armed Forces School of Music here , we are able to see and hear all styles of playing and wonderful performances here...There is a number of local police Pipes and Drum Corps here, also...Even as a kid, I knew about the Fife and Drum Corps,,,in the mid 1970s DCI was still pretty fresh...we used to watch them on the PBS channel during their final day of championships wherever they were playing...back then the Phantom Regiment was THE ONE to watch and beat...Bless ya !!
You have an amazing work ethic! I really enjoy your channel and content. I’m in my 30th year of teaching middle school band and love seeing and hearing your enthusiasm. Thank you and I hope you are well.
Didn't even realize he only had 40K subs until he said "Revealed at 50,000 subs". You deserve wayyy more man. Good luck (I mean that's the YT Algorithm right?) and keep doing what you're doing!
I just graduated U.S. Army basic training and am a drummer as well. Have been playing since I was 8 and doing drumline for 6 years. And I can totally agree on the pride that comes from serving.
Ladies and gentlemen this is the tenacity that you need in life. Discover your passion and work your tail off. One day you’ll pick your head up from working hard and God willing be where you dreamt. Stay away from drugs, have a mentor in your dream job, learn everything you can and apply yourself. Good luck.
April 3, 2020 (Quarantine Comments ...) I've watched this video several times over the last few months ... So proud of this Marine! Semper Fi! So glad that EMC Productions showed up on my suggested videos after watching Ohio State Marching Band (TBDBITL) last October. Honored to watch Eric perform live at MCRD San Diego in February.
Started out wanting to join the Drum and Bugle Corps and ended up a 0341 Mortar gunner. I'll never regret it and I did play Bugle at some funerals lol.
Eric! I’m a senior in high school wrapping up my marching band season. I want to play tenors in college after having so much fun this season. Any tips and practice equipment recommendations? Thanks for the awesome content!
Buy a practice pad (VicFirth heavy hitter quadropad). Buy some sticks. Whatever college you're attending download their music packet/exercises and memorize everything. Be sure to record yourself and always always play with the metronome. Sincerely, UCLA quadplayer 2014-2018
Nice👍👍👍I always wanted to know your back story before you joined the Marines...you are most definitely a rare Marine especially you hold a master degree but is enlisted I'm surprised you are not a officer. Holy cow man! I played percussion in marching band through high School, I was a lifeguard and captain of the swim team, I got fired from Home Depot and I joined the army! Only difference is I didn't join the Army band.
You and I started boot camp around the same time. I started in August 2018. It was cool hearing your story. I wish I would’ve dedicated myself to music as much as you did.
Also: Now that I've watched this (my 20 minute practice break after 45 minutes of being more productive than I was during all of last week), I'm hella motivated. Also, random question: in the original My Hertas video, how did you ride that scooter with no hands? Tell me your secret.
I joined because my dad was in the navy and I used to joke to him about swabbing the deck so I had to one up him and join the Marines , one week into bootcamp swabbing the deck sounded pretty good.
I enjoy your videos. Just started playing again after 30 years. I have a good friend who was in the Old Guard and eventually became a Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknowns. If you are not between 6’1”-6-3” they will cut you on height alone. I was a Corpsman with a heavy weapons company, Semper Fi!!
This is weird. I auditioned in January of 2015 and my audition process was way different. I auditioned for the "main" band then set up an audition for the Commandant's Own. I wish I had known that back then, lol. I learned how to play the Marimba in like 3 weeks. Shit was stressful. But the audition itself, like you mentioned, was pretty chill - if not a little long.
Eric, I so absolutely love your story! i feel like you are me, but cooler, and better with drums…but basically me! lol - and on a serious note…thank you for your service, sir! Hey @EMCproductions how you doin? I wanted to ask, I'm thinking about switching from bass drum to tenors in my Marching Band( our percussion is so good, we've won lots of awards) but I was looking for a video on your channel about tenor techniques and basics of the tenors, but I could not find a video, if there is one could you route me to it or could you maybe think about making a short instruction vid about it?
