Do you think metaphors are important in art?
Ye!
Yep!
Yes, especially if you want to evoke some feeling. Some artists probably do it subconsciously.
Yes its one of my favorite things about art. Its what keeps me looking and thinking about an art piece. I wonder, are gesture drawings in a way a metaphor? Its something I never quite understood. I was told to capture the essence and energy of the person is what is most important. If I am not trying to be exact is that in itself a metaphor?
Memes do it perfectly.
I had the privilege of having Marshall as an instructor. Using metaphors is not just for visual art but can be used for writing, acting, music, and many non artistic things.
Woah that’s cool! 0:
Beard Marshall sounds even more wiser, is like watching Gandalf speak to a Hobbit that is trying to make a joke 🤣🤣. Is just the perfect balance.
Oh my, the waterfall part was so touching I almost shed a tear. Brilliant analogy and voice :)
Great talk.
Nice to hear from an expert about this topic.
As an engineer/therapist, I still believe that there is connection between Art & Science that can be achieved via Methaphors [as a medium]. In general, scientists, with artistic mindset, are in advantage position for producing creative research work in their fields of study. Principle of art can be utilized, not only for delivering the message, but also, as a tool to perceive/acquire knowledge.
When Marshall talks we listen....
And then buy books :-)
Yep, that's what I just did!
@@elektroyu I gotta save some cash before next season comes out haha
So true he has like at least 2 books to reccomend for every topic lol
@@scenepunk09 there always great books though :-)
5:15 This blew my mind. I have been explaining movies, art, and music through the means of food for years. I always found it as a fun challenge to fully describe a piece of art through a dish. Fascinating.
What a jewel of knowledge you said in this clip!!! Wow!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!
Marshall just nailed it!
Thank you Marshall. I have never thought about it this clearly. It’s like adding a special requirement to a composition, a special constraint.
Oh I have that book and it is so enlightening!
I just downloaded the ebook, that Marshall suggested. Thank you guys for all your awesome content! 🙏🌻❤
Yes. This. This. This. 🖤
do you already know when the new season will start?
I've read "Picture This" and it made me understand minimalist art.
u know, sometimes old man can get abit annoying, but this is the moment when marshal talks, we listen. this is simply brilliant!!!! and im completely BLOWN AWAY.
Oh my, this was amazing. I got into visual arts after having focused on language - and in particular metaphors - almost all of my adult life. My way of thinking is mostly in terms of structures and connections and comparisons, but I never knew how to tap into that when I'm drawing and painting. I think this may be the approach that will help me incorporate that part of me into my journey in the visual arts. Thank you very much. I will definitely be buying that book. And should one of you do a video on demonstrating how you can approach such a project, then I would be all over that.
I just watched a video flipthrough of the Molly Bang book. It's amazing how it teaches about visual language so effectively. However, it doesn't touch at all on the subject of this video, namely composing one subject in a way reminiscent of or inspired by a different subject altogether. Can someone recommend a book on that subject?
I just bought the book and feel more interested in art from just the introduction of the book.
Thanks Marshall. Just bought the book 'Picture this' online. Look forward to getting it soon :)
That molly bang book is amazing
thanks for sharing your knowledge
Ordered Molly Bangs book, hope it helps, I've been stuck on ideas for the past few months.
talking to my great grandpa woulda been like this, i just never got to meet him
wow marshall
Green may be my favorite color but it's the hardest hat for me to wear. This helps though.
Why are these so short now? We went from a full hour+ long podcast to 5/ 10 minute clips. Bring back the full podcast on UA-cam. Please
I want season tree :(
Love you guys 💚
Three* hahahhahahhahahsahhahha
When are we going to have new episodes?
Notification gang Notification gang!
So much comments about marshall lol. Stan your great too! Lol
Stan is the man!!!
I miss Marshall.
Whoo
Wow I'm first
Memes do it perfectly.
I thought the title was clickbait, it wasn't.
You're all that and a super-size bag of chips, want to be youtube friends?
I am going to preface this by saying that I might be totally wrong and you guys are the content creating professionals... but I think that you posting these old clips is prob not maintaining audience engagement as much as it is encouraging your audience to just turn off Draftsmen notifications...
But it helps if u just want to hear what they wanna say about a specific topic. Some people prefer short content..they may turn them off now and when the new season comes turn them back on.
@@scenepunk09 Pretty sure about 90% of subs have ignored these clips on average lol
@@ari_isdrawing4293 maybe. There should be a notification setting on youtube that u can choose for it to notify u for only certain types of videos a youtuber posts. But from what ive heard notifications dont even work half the time lol.
