    So essentially Its better to take a 1-week break than it is to overindulge or become obsessed, burnout and be out of it for over 1 month or even more. Solid advice

    Whenever I see someone deprecate on their own artwork, I get the impression some of them are trying to use it as a kind of coping mechanism. As if telling yourself what you made is not good will give you less whiplash to your ego when someone criticizes it than if you were more proud.

    • @keepyourshoesathedoor

      I am someone who deprecates their art and I don’t always care if people critique it because their criticisms are nothing to mine, it’s a downgrade on my ego so I know not to have high expectations next time. People think that high expectations are good and they are but it’s difficult to maintain them and stay in reality with these distortions of grandeur.
      You are right, it is a coping mechanism. Sometimes it’s really helpful depending on where you’re at in your life and makes it easier to move on but sometimes it starts making deprecate what people like so they you are a psycho maniac.

    honestly i went from trying to post twice or three times a week to posting once a month, and ive been so much more productive ever since. And i finally got to draw for myself and not for the shake of posting.

      @@top_nigerian_news hmm I do not quite agree with you. Posting frequently, although it did help me grow my social media following, it ultimately resulted in me not evolving as an artist.

    It's like what Iain McCaig says about it. "Keep your mouth shut. Let the audience decide if they like it or not"

    this is good advice for any career i think, i'm a freelance programmer and downplaying my own stuff is not a good first impression. Also, publicly exposing bad software I made will make people ask about them and I'll have to explain it. Unnecessary effort needed from me, and a waste of time to someone who asks.

    Stan,
    how can we determine that art work is good or bad?, some people bad work is good in the eyes of others!
    I've seen bad work that is accepted and liked by many on social media websites. I never liked my work but every one enjoys it and think it's fantastic ! some of my bad work has been like liked huge number of people and some of my best work was ignored. We are a victim of algorithms and rough market .Our attempt to keep art alive and active is like a butterfly trapped under a cup. The good thing i have my day job and staying as a Sunday painter where i flicker paint over white surfaces.

      I agree that people shouldn’t self deprecate mental health wise but most people just like the work out of spite and see you doing that as being real and humble, depends on how you want your brand to look.

    Dealing with impostor syndrome is really hard, though. Even when you understand you're not that bad at what you do at all and people seem to like your work.

    HA! I enjoy a ton of art pages on Instagram..... I unfollow once I notice they just draw the same thing over and over again...... Or the ones that do the fad of the month to whatever is going on on Pop Culture/Politics..... So I ended up with a ton of Russian, Oriental and Italian pages.... And Cesar Santos!

      Omg I've been noticing lately that there's a wave of new young Russian artists that are really good and are everywhere? Is that a thing? Did Russia allow more creativity to Russian people or something ?
      Or is it pure coincidence ?

    9 months now im practicing on digital art, at the same time colors and lighting... i know my work sucks because im practicing, BUT im showing it as progress... when im showing my 5 min or 10 min sketches, i dont think they are bad, but instead im showing how good im drawing in such short amount of time... this "sandbagging" is more like reverse psycology, the artists boys and girls who are just begging for a positive comment...

      Right, and people seem to like it somewhat and will keep looking at the art in spite.

    I've been through times that I think "I'm not good enough, I need to practice more, no one want to see this drawing" and ended up losing motivation, not practicing and posting anything at all, and regretting later. So I started posting my sketching on Instagram, that I like, but don't know if that what people want to see, to keep me going, drawing everyday and looking forward to drawing and practicing more. Is that okay?

    • @rennley_9233
      @rennley_9233 2 роки тому +1

      of course it's okay! i've struggled with the same thing; i've been on Instagram since late 2019 and my growth has completely stagnated. but it's solely due to the fact that i *don't draw as often as i should* -- i've polled my followers and asked if they prefer sketches over finished work (a finished illustration typically takes me 10+ hours) and i was pleasantly surprised to hear that they prefer the sketches... which actually makes things easier for me, because i can fill a sketchbook page in under an hour, and grow myself and my drawing skills at the same time.
      the fact that you're drawing every day AND looking forward to it is something that i really admire. keep doing that. because you're prioritizing your personal growth as an artist, and you're making time to improve your skills. at the end of the day, share the sketches! as long as you're consistently creating work, you'll never run out of content to share. i'd love to see your work if you're interested in sharing it!

    I think the psychology you're quoting is misrepresented in the example you are giving. Imposter syndrome isn't using one's art to convey a sense of inferiority but a byproduct of gaining success from an activity and then feeling shame due to an anxiety about one's own ability to maintain the set standards.
    It's linked to an anxiety disorder so if the symptoms go unchecked by a professional the person with this specific anxious trigger will exhibit the symptoms via their social networks.
    This seems like you're trying to give mental health advise to people who do art and have an anxiety disorder that leads into imposter syndrome, but you aren't a trained psychologists so this segment just seems reactive rather than educational.
    Is the point to discuss mental health or how to make a presentable portfolio?

    you say if its bad dont post it but the ones i think is bad end up getting more likes than the ones i think are better so i really dont understand peopple lol

    • @nowlasd9622
      @nowlasd9622 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, because the bad ones are more frequent than the good ones. Frequency leads to more people recognizing you. Also, the artists of the bad art are more active online, meaning they chat with other artist and talk about their interests, eventually making friends online.
      Another one is that if you recently started out, don't post your best art. People will accuse you of stealing the art. They will think, "Oh, you don't have many Subs/Followers, meaning this isn't your art, you didn't do it..." mentality. This happened to me with my stuff when I started out and got my post blocked by moderators.
      Best thing to do is gradually increase the quality and stick with mediocre stuff until you get a decent number of followers.

    • @jellybx
      @jellybx 3 роки тому +4

      u cant really predict how well each stuff gonna received
      even a fully rendered illustration could receive less like than a sketch which is done in several minutes
      in the end dont bother much about likes if u want to post something

    • @Radgerayden-ist
      @Radgerayden-ist 3 роки тому +1

      Think of it as a skill valley. Bad art is relatable and as such easy to digest and share. Right after that, you have a long valley of mediocrity, which no one cares about. If you want to receive attention for being actually good, you need to go through it until you emerge on the other side, where it's impossible for people to ignore you.
