      Hi Brendan, wow thanks for all your RP videos, I'm going to buy this camera this week, can I ask you what's the best low cost photo and video lens for this camera please? I've seen it can come with the RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM Lens but that lens has terrible reviews, so should I get that one or would you recommend another lens? regards, Jeff

    An RP sensor cover trick I found is to turn on the “clean sensor now” in the menu. After the third vibration the shutter comes down. Immediately turn off the power. Now the sensor is covered.

I clearly remember a conversation with you and Mike Perea on the difference between a "pro" and "hobby" photographer is the ability to blow on your lens or sensor and not spit on it :) I laughed out loud when you did this and simply had to comment this time. I bought an 80D last year, and stuck a battery grip on it, and took it all over and did landscape photography with it and loved it. This was a significant upgrade over my Rebel SL1.
    Then later on I saw an open-box RP for $850 with the EF mount adapter and I could not pass it up. I *love* the EVF and focus peaking. The more I use the RP the more I like it, and my poor 80D is just sitting in a bag waiting to be sold off now.
    The EOS RP's specs aren't sexy, but It's got it where it counts. It handles and performs really well, the picture quality is great, and It's a terrific value, too... $900 for a refurbished body from canon. I don't know how you could do better in a sub-$1000 full frame body.

    • @carlossouthward8578
      @carlossouthward8578 4 роки тому

      I use my 80D just as much. They both help me in what I do. The RP lags a little in rapid fire when the 80D does not. And, I just ordered the 90D. It will be here Monday. I can't wait. Have a great day.

      @@BrendanvanSon Damn, is that a smart move? I had the same decision between the RP and the 6D but I saw that the 6D has better dynamic range and low light capability compared to the 6d2/RP. Partly got it because it has got a better battery as well as the cheaper high-quality lens.
      P.S funny how I downgraded from the Sony A73, the best camera have I ever owned. Has many features, but didn't justify the prices of itself and the lens(way too overpriced), especially so for landscape photography.

    This is the best review I’ve seen on the RP! I bought the RP right when it came out and I bought the R a few months later. I fully agree with you about dropping the R before the RP from my line up whenever I upgrade again. The onlyyyy time I ever grab the R instead of the RP is when I need C Log. Other than that, the RP gives me a more streamlined work flow (physical mode dial!) in a smaller lighter cheaper package.

      I had 6D before i up to 6Dii, the 6Dii image quality not much different, but the live view on 6Dii like a mirrorless camera, and now i change to RP, coz 6D and 6Dii have same problem, the SS dial on front, the rubber always loose, and make the dial jammed. Now my issue with RP is just, the RP dont have first Curtain shutter, u stick with electronic first curtain shutter, and no silent shutter in M mode. Thats it, everything else is Good as planned.

    I have also had mine for about a year. Moved up from the 70D and chose the RP over the 6DII so I could get access to the lovely RF glass. I have been very happy with it, primarily for landscape photography, but also so easy to carry for travel images with the 24-105 f/4 lens. Only negative for me is the relatively weak low-light (higher ISO) performance. If I go R5/R6 in the next year, I would probably keep this for backup and for travel.

    Nice to see a real life review. Not only a spec sheet. I got the RP a year ago as a travel/hiking/landscape camera and a backup to my 5D IV. I like it so much that I barely touch my 5D anymore unless I need more fps. I am looking to get the 15-35 f2.8 to replace my 16-35 f4 and Rokinon 14 f2.8 for astro. With the 24-105 f4 and the coming 100-500, I will be able to cover 15-500 mm with 3 lenses for hiking/landscape/travel. On DR, I watch many landscape YT channels. Sony shooters still use bracketing, exposure blending with luminosity masks.

    The RP is weather sealed, the fogging of the sensor in that case is kinda unavoidable

  • @Leptospirosi
    @Leptospirosi 4 роки тому

    The RP is actually somehow weather sealed as well despite lacking an IP rating (But I never saw one for the R as well): the fact that the sensor steamed up does not mean this camera has problems: in fact, no camera is airtight and the sensor is exposed when you remove the lens. Probably the smaller body or an imperfect gasket contact between the lens and the body allowed a tiny bit of hot air to squeze in and it condensed when it touched the glass on the sensor. The presence of a curtain on the EOS R could also have avoided the same fate: in fact the humid air got probably in contact with the metallic blades of the curtain and steamed on them before reaching the sensor. I would not worry too much to expose the RP to some light rain, but the R is certainly better sealed if you need to use it in really demanding conditions.

      Brendan van Son I went to Sony A6400 for the sigma 16mm f1.4 combo to have on a gimbal but couldn’t get use to the Sony menus (I tried so hard) and I realised that I didn’t need to have a gimbal (plus gimbals are a faff 😆). Tripod locked off, handheld and GoPro 7 for any walk and talk was fine. I missed canon’s use ability, build quality and lens choice. Plus while full frame is not essential, there is just that little extra special DOF sauce when taking portraits. For the price now, it’s a no brainer really. And they added 24fps which is useful. Do you still film everything in 60fps? What frame rate do you do your timeline in? Glad to see you back at it.

    Here in October 202, the RP + kit lens has dropped to just $899. Meanwhile the R remains $1799. That should tell us something. My single biggest gripe with the RP is that the 4K mode actually disables the dual pixel auto focus. Even the $500 SL3 has DPAF with 4K! That makes no sense whatsoever. Everything else is tier features. I get that. But actually disabling a BASIC function like autofocus is just plain dumb.

I think you're right I want a full frame as my main body, but for a vlogging camera I'd want something that was lighter, or like a behind the scenes so maybe the m50 would be a good option, the 90d is nice but its the size of a full frame camera, and the m6 is nice too and the m6 mark ii is the price of a Eos RP so maybe I'll definitely look into it. im rocking an Eos M right now and a canon T6s thanks for the help!

      @@LouisLuzuka I have the R and the M6ii. The R is awesome for stills and video. The m6ii is light, and easy to use, 4k is great also. As a stills camera I feel the m6ii is limited by the M glass due to low light and therefore quality. With L glass I can get same pic quality as the R. Also miss the built in evf. But sometimes the R + glass is to big to carry, this is where the m6ii comes into its own. Pop it on a crane m2 and you have a stills and vlogging setup that fits in your pocket. I like the idea of the Rp as a back up cam, but pop full frame glass on it and you lose the portability factor the m6ii offers. So many swings and roundabouts 🙂🙂

    One thing to consider is
    The camera price tag is targeted towards beginner's/amateurs using crop sensors who want to upgrade on budget.
    Since they have EF-S lenses
    When they are put on rp, the rp does not use the entire sensor and shoots only 11MP stills.

    I have had my RP for about 4 days now and I like it so far. I bought it refurbished from Canon during their sale but they sent me a brand new one, in the retail box, so extra score. Other than my 50mm I haven't gotten around to getting any full frame lenses for it but still had a 10-18 and 55-250 EF-S lenses and threw them on the adapter and to be honest they photos are not bad, that is a super cool selling point that you can use EF-S lenses and full frame lenses on these cameras. Also isn't the RP supposed to have the same amount of weather sealing as the 6D Mark II? I am still waiting to see what the R6 is like, might get rid of the RP and my A7II and get the R6 if I like it. I'm so happy to have a touchscreen again and flipout screen and I like the ability to move focus points with my thumb using the screen.

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  4 роки тому

      Yeah, same weather sealing as the 6dii. And the Ef-S lenses is a nice touch from Canon. It allows people to make the jump to full frame for cheaper. There are some limitations for video, but for stills it's great.
