True story: Bigfoot used to be called Bigfeet until he stepped in one of these.
giggityguy this deserves more likes
🤣🤣🤣
Bigfoot? Only wears a size 10!
we actually call him peg-legged willy now
He is a idiot
Adding coil springs from a car/truck would give you the extra force and extra speed for a truly terrifying trap.
I was thinking the same thing since the first part
The point of a trap would be to trap not mame lol
But it would be nearly impossible to compress, no?
@@GoldOlympicMedalist, depends on the spring.
@@oneshotonekill2528 I use traps all of the time, they are useful in killing/trapping the animal.
Polish up your contact points also so it slides easier. Less friction means faster movement. And becareful guys, that thing is a monster!
I think the ratios are off slightly so the leverage is not quite the same as it's smaller counter parts. Longer springs with a little more power and bigger loops on the end so it pushing the jaws out from further away from the jaws hinge should give it that extra snap.
@@graeme.davidson yep, that's all they needed to do to the first one also. They are all over it, it's just the fine tuning at this piont
I'm going to bypass the Finite Element Analysis and just say this.....MORE TEETH! Definitely polish the contact surfaces. And yeah, ratios are probably way off.
I was gonna say the same thing, the contact points of the spring loops and trap jaws are too rough and kinda wobbly. They should grind them flat and smooth as they can.
And add car springs! LOL
@@RyoHazuki224 right! I mentioned adding springs to the first one, like small coil springs from motorcycle shocks. They have it going their way they just need a little more force and do a little cleaning.
will looks so disappointed with it lol it barely clamps shut Alec "O MY GOODNESS" Will "looks at alec like that was terrible" lol
Little bit of a faker i see
Exactly. This trap sucks
@@outdoorandbushcraft39 Nah. Little grease here and there and your leg will have a hole more if you dont take care
You noticed that too
It definitely is kinda slow, but does have some bite
About time someone start catching all those sneaky Sasquatchs
If a trap is supposed to trap a Sasquatch it should at least be able to cut clean through a watermelon ;)
If the Sasquatch straight up loses it's leg I would argue it is no longer trapped.
@@ThePumperCloggs lol
They want to catch and release, not maim
Next video: We dropped the Calvary Sabre in the Sasquatch trap, we have to restart both projects.
The Calvary Sabre was dropped in and sliced the trap in half, but in the process the edge was ruined and the guard somehow ended up with air bubbles after.
I know you guys worked very hard on this, but watching the thing work, I find myself underwhelmed. Stronger springs might be the ticket.
Oh my goodness! hahahahahaha..........
Agreed
That was very anti-climatic. You need wider springs and tapered jaw tangs to get more velocity. And make rectangular holes in the springs with rounded corners.
I just liked this comment cuz it sounds like you know what you're talking about.
Traps aren't supposed to cut through stuff, otherwise they wouldn't work as intended. They just have to grab hold of stuff.
@@hughevans2433 it needs to be strong enough to snap close fast and strong enough that the animal can't get its leg out. Theirs was way to slow. I've done enough trapping to know how they're supposed to work. A much smaller trap would've exploded those 2 liter bottles.
@Ignacio 😂true
Force. Not velocity.
Double up those leaf springs!!! We want to see nothing less than BONE CRUSHING FORCE.
add a booster spring to help the initial jaw action.
Imagine being a rabbit and setting this off. I'd have a heart attack.
Seeing the jaws snap close what feels like a mile above your head? A gentle gust of wind ruffling the fur and a distant click as the jaws close
That thing needs to hang from the wall or ceiling of a forest themed steak house
The CIA wants to know your location
you mean steak?
@@kaptein1247 no no.. a steak out house..
@@1puppetbike LOL i think you made a mi*STEAK*
Take a shot every time Alec says "Oh my goodness!"
Historically accurate “Sasquatch” trap... 🤣
Love the content Alec. Keep it coming.
PLEASE make a rolling pizza cutter out of Jelly Roll damascus! That would be SO awesome! 🙏🏻
It must be real difficult to make a trap this big with some REAL bonecrushing UMPH to it.
But this one is real and it works, so what the heck.
Awesome job.
Well they could just weld some truck spring coils in would definitely make it have that umph
Coil springs are extremely stiff and would require multiple people to compress or some form of mechanical leverage. Try standing on a coil spring from a vehicle (even a small vehicle like a Mazda Miata). I think you'll be surprised at how stiff they are.
@@tacman1845 It's true that car springs is really stiff, but that's what this need to really work.
Hey Mr Steel.
Hopefully you won’t catch one with that thing. I like Bigfoot. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
if you watched the last video, they said it's a Sasquatch trap. Not for Bigfoot, they are totally safe and way too smart to step in traps.
Hey Redacted Lluks
Thanks for the information. Need to catch up on some channels so I didn’t know.
@@Redact63Lluks Are you being serious or pulling on his (soon amputated) leg? 🤣😂. Sasquatch and Bigfoot are the same thing.
Shut up torturers. If you want to catch one you do not need to hurt it.
Ehrenman
A herd of sasquatch could run through that trap before the jaws snapped closed... lol
alec is like a little kid on christmas morning with this
PLEASE make a Montana Sasquatch Management shirt/hoodie I’d buy the heck out of that
This was the Independence Day 2 of forging projects.
Well now y'all can devise a prosthetic leg for all the one legged sasquatches that are gonna be laying around!
I think Alec said it best when he said
"That is horrifying..."
*Everyone knows Bigfoot lives in the thick forest....you must test in the woods.* 😜
Source Port Services I hope he exist
Sorry to say so but that trap is to so slow. A trap of that size need to have like power and speed that make it jump a little when its close.
A real trap of this size would be scarey to set of standing that close to it because, of its weight would hurt you if it hit you when it jumps when snapping shut.
You need a tee shirt with Alec’s exciting “Oh My Goodness”! Great job!
Seems like it should move a little more guickly.... 🤔
Looks like your springs need to be about a order of magnitude stronger. Compare to the large bear traps.
PUT TRUCK SPRINGS ON IT IT BE VISCOUS
Good thing that there's no Big Foot. By the time that trap closes, Big Foot should have drank a beer.
Dont forget to make a piece of Damascus cheese to bait your trap with. You have to have something to attract the Sasquatch.
trap needs to close faster guys just sayin
Tarp springs are way to weak.
They are opening the trap by hand without the aid of mechanical help which means springs are not strong enough.
@@scruffy6151 ya, you should not be able to open a bear trap by hand let alone one that huge lol
Matt they used clamps at 8:09
And more Spikes
@@Benzy670 they use them to keep it clamped till the plate is set... But you can see them open it by hand many times
Doctor: “Sir... why is your leg looking like hamburger?” Alec Steele: “weeeellllll...”
I thought the teeth were going to be too small but they actually end up very well proportioned.
Sasquatch: hears noise
Keeps walking
The trap is finished, and the intern is nowhere to be found - coincidence?!
When can we expect the blue shop towel wristbands on your store 🤣😂
Can we have more large, 2 man builds please??
The art pieces and blades are amazing, but there is something really satisfying in seeing a big steel machine coming together!
He'll need a medic onsite to put a cast on when you catch him/her. Lol
Why not start with a leaf spring out of a small car or small truck.
How about a forged in fire comp between you both?
Yes
And both forge a comb!
They do that aready, sorta, they have an hour to make a thing and judge it on Instagram to choose a winner
check there past videos for Steele vs Stelter, they have done 4 of these with the oldest (bracelets) saying it was 2 months ago as I type this
So far they have done throwing stars, slingshots, centre punches and bracelets
the centre punch and bracelet episodes they gave each other an hour, but the more recent ones they had been working on them simultainously
I am very aware of their past competitions.
Alec has tried to get a knife done to FIF 3 hours and then handle in 3 hours and didn’t make it. I am talking about them both doing it. Also the 5 day iconic weapon of history.
They haven’t done anything like this yet.
Just took my second smithing class today! Makes me appreciate the hard work you put into these projects even more! Love from CA!
I have really enjoyed this dive into mechanical blacksmithing! Hoping for more in the future!
I was actually forging when I got the notification that this video was uploaded LOL I am building a couple of fence Tighteners
I was making a tanto xD
Saying Oh my goodness didn't make it anything less underwhelming.
The trap worked. They still made improvements based on what they thought it needed afterwards.
@@capp12249 It's nice work and i wouldn't be able to build anything like that. But the Dimensions were to big while the force of it wouldn't be able to penetrate skin (besides of these teeth) thus making it underwhelming and that typical "OH MA GAWD" and "CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT" would not excite me.
Love your content, talk us through your process of determining the order of operations for forging a mid to highly complicated piece. And list the different “elements“ (taper, reverse taper, isolation etc.) that you usually encounter, and why you have to do certain ones before others, please? Hope this makes sense, I think it would be interesting and informative.
I just love how Alec is continually amazed at how metal forcefully applied to fruits and soda bottles always ends the same, yet he always acts as if it’s a huge surprise! 😂
Kudos to whoever is editing, some lovely cuts in this one :)
You've got to be kidding! way too many transitions and too fast. This kind of editing is used for commercials where they have only a few seconds to fit everything in.
LOL I'm watching this video in between Heats
Ive done that before as well.
@@Kaleb.R well it is good to see that I am not the only one that loves to watch Alex deals videos but also to go out and get some work done
@@theruralrenegade8911 who's Alex Deals? I've not seen him on here 😂

This trap will be the genesis of the future “Sasquatch Fractured Shin Support Group and Rehabilitation Center”
When’s the next big project lads? I love the multi-part series. Prefer to watch you making real projects than squat racks and traps
The squat rack is ok, that had real purpose, this
...
Not so much
magmadragon75 I’d have to say the trap is much more interesting than a squat rack
@@heartysmacker7042 not saying its not interesting, just less usefull
Is no one going to mention the new power hammer (I assume Will finished his)? Or did I miss a video?
Also are there plans for a meet the team video?
Its getting a load of work today, Will has been posting about it on ig. Think it will probably have an episode when it's done
@@calumbmx1 ah, thanks dude. Not on ig much so missed it
I haven't watched your vids in about a year and you've improved so much since then! Both your forging and cinematography are absolutely gorgeous.
I love the first “successful” test when Alec pauses trying to figure out if he should count it as good or not before he celebrates. Lol the next few were much better though. A little less spectacular than everyone hoped but I bet anyone who stepped on it would say it is spectacularly effective. Good work again guys!
Are you going to add doors to the forge, you said you were when you built but you never have?
Naw, you burned yourself, and the shop towel is protecting it. 🤐
Time for another shop Safety video and talk about the importance of carrying a tourniquet. Hard to relocate something that has bled out though. 🤔
Awesome work as always.
Dude if this song was turned into a metal song it would be fucking HEAVY. That melody is sick.
dam!!!! i thought that was a term for a trap for my mother in law ha as always your great
how long until you really challenge yourselves and build a suit of armor?
Things I thought:
Indeed, making the jaws a bit lighter will help, since they are bigger, which means much of the mass is further away from the pivot point compared to a normal-sized trap and requires more torque to close. The closing speed can also be helped by a stronger spring (it will be much harder to arm, though). As someone said, truck leaf springs are possible, but you will need a truck to arm it!
The part in the jaws that slide on the spring might have some scales from the forging process, making it grip on the spring a bit. Smooth it out and add grease.
The pressure plate doesn't necessarily need to be lighter, even though it helps. If the springs are strong enough, it will be held in place by friction, due to the pressure that is being applied on the trigger.
The sasquatch trap caught Alec... means Alec = sasquatch. In the sponsorship thanking part we learned that sasquatches should really use nordVPN
I can confirm that he is part of the family
@@sasquatch-jb8eb i like your profile pic.
Notification gang 🖖🏼🖖🏼
Yeah but could you build a full suit of armor??
Full grown sasquatch would brush that garbage off.
that would be perfect to hold the victim in place as a giant oak log swings from a 4 point release like a pendulum
You know the jolly old days when not every youtuber didn't have to sell there soul to NordVPN an Audible.....
I remember the jolly old days when people knew how to make a sentence.
You mean the days when they had to suck on the tit on UA-cam and bow to the whims of the UA-cam advertisers or be demonetised? You mean the days when their whole livelyhood could be stripped in a matter of days because of the whims of a UA-cam bot or employee? You mean the days where UA-cam and Google got a cut of the creators hard work for merely providing a platform and nothing else?
Yes self autonomy and job security are the downfall of the independent content creator so says Jan Roodbol!
@@CDRaff it was just a joke. I think its quite smart how audible and NordVPN step in to get a lot of screen time. I liked the way youtube paid there creators for the work they did.
Hey, Alec, I'm sad you never received the flag I sent you to your UK P.O. box over a year ago. :( too bad.
If that thing catches your leg the only place you're gonna be relocated is a cemetery 😂
I like when you share the plan or drawings at the beginning so we can visualize as you progress. Awesome videos!
This was an underwhelming project, still enjoyable but didn't elicit the same giddiness as something like the flail for example. How about next make a set of knights armor. And test it like in a knights tale. I'm sure there is a few mobile game companies that would sponsor that.
Points: Too much over excitement, trap was too slow.
Will knew and was not impressed.
Waste of fruit.
Can you get to makin some blades please
If you made this trap with proportional power to a mousetrap, someone would wind up dead.
He'll just reach down and open it with his monster hands and you will see him stomping through the parking lot directly towards your shop.
U know what. It's not that much powerful
So Alec, why did you move to Montana?
Alec: oh you know, beautiful sights, less restrictions on forging *in his head* hunting Sasquatch.
Sad... there wasn't a package of jack links set as bait on it... lol Fun build y'all, can't wait for the next one!
Before being relocated, the Sasquatch is going to have to be rehabilitated after stepping in this trap.
I hereby cordially invite Alec and Will to visit Northern California and survey the areas for potential Sasquatch relocation. We've had some recent rains, so the new growth and greenery are stunning to observe.
"Oh my goodness!" - Next T-Shirt Idea 2019.
You both should do a Q&A, my question would be what’s the worst burn or injury you’ve had whilst working?
A big cow bone would show us how much force this trap has.
Relocating that squatch here should help with our excessive dear problem, as well. Thanks guys!
Ian Johnson to many people writing letters?
The 1st montage, with that music is EPIC!!
Do a shot every time Alec says “oh my goodness” 😂
Can we get a count of the “OOH MY GOODNESS!”
Dipboi69 Yeeha - “ooh my goodness” - yup, still monetized!
Making a trap that works like this is super difficult, at least a hundred years of experience went into the current successful method . seeing you struggle through it and being fully successful was awesome.
If you search images of double long spring traps you will notice the springs are cranked back toward the dog side of the trap when set. This will put more pressure on the dog side jaw increasing pan tension. Will mentioned not having enough pressure to engage the dog with the notch on the pan. It is difficult to create enough pan tension to set a factory dls trap without cranking the springs as described. Astounding work and problem solving.
*only one Sasquatch was harmed in the making of this video*
I swear these two are going to survive the zombie apocalypse
It amazes me how you swing that hammer so much, I work staging shooting competitions and I'm staking metal rods for every target in the dirt and it absolutely kills me. Just seeing you do it constantly over heat is crazy
The editing on these videos continues to improve and I absolutely love it!!
Oh my goodness! Great videos guys - loved the amount of different processes used - both power hammers, press, hand smithing. 👍
I have never seen anyone duplicate the World War II Navy/Marine Hospital Corpsman's jungle knife that was used for chopping down small trees to make stretchers, for fighting etc. Maybe you could take up that project. It is like a small machette or bolo. But it is classified as a knife.
Would it be possible to make this like absurdly stronger? This would be a project I would want to watch. Keep up the good work!
Glad to see you do some good old fashioned black smithing. The other stuff is great as well but this is your core. Great job guys.
I really hope a Bigfoot Hunter buys this.
With smaller traps every year before the season all the traps get boiled in oil and duped in wax to keep them moving smothley
