      @@benjaminmiller1142 - it's a tough balance, for sure. I have a feeling that he wanted to make something like this just for practice, as it's been a while since he has. So there has to be balance between learning the new, and practicing the existing skills. Now we're more on track with all of these 'interruption' videos. :) Seeming like a much better balance of forging/creating and learning new skills.

      @@Broadpaw_Fox I think the main reason he got away from the forging aspect was because he was waiting for the oven and vacuum chamber. All the other stuff was preparation for finishing off the handle once he got those 2 pieces of equipment.

    • @Broadpaw_Fox
      @Broadpaw_Fox 5 років тому

      @@sheldonrunkey6160 - I'm not referring to only this project with the lack of forging. With the last few 'major' projects, he has had a lot of other work to do than just forging. But if you watched his older videos, there was a very clear emphasis on actual forging. Witness the 'Less yack yack, more whack whack' t-shirt he has. He was very much a forging monster, and now with his branching out into new techniques/areas, there hasn't been that much forging as of late. The Falchion is a great example- how much of that was forging the blade vs all the rest of the work?
      I love that he's branching out and learning new things, but I have to say that this most recent few weeks is a great example of how to do that and also keep some good old forging in the mix. It might make the major projects take longer, but then maybe not if as you said there is time spent waiting for something. ;)
      TL;DR - Basically, I love the last few weeks- a very good balance has been found it seems.

    This is the classic Alec project style I love! No offense but the forty party saber build was starting to wear me out

    • @koloth5139
      @koloth5139 5 років тому +3

      I actually don't mind the saber near as much as some of the other long series. They seem to be breaking it up pretty well with the small projects. Just enough that I actually start to wonder what's going on with the saber again.

    • @christophersavignon4191
      @christophersavignon4191 5 років тому +1

      I don't think length is the saber project's problem either. Most of it was good, too.
      There were a few issues. A lack of progress while they tried to figure out bronze casting. A lack of showing the process in some episodes. Experimental jump cuts that I personally found detrimental at times.
      All of it has been fixed.
      + The cinematics in this video are awesome (but not only in this one), and they generally learned to use jump cuts in a less disruptive manner.
      + They showed a lot more of the process in the recent videos.
      + They got the guard done, and it looks great. The project - and future ones - will probably run more smoothly now.
      Alec and Will have improved a whole lot in the last weeks. It's a beautiful thing to observe that process.
