Complete Front Yard Makeover ⭐️ Instant Impact Curb Appeal From Start to Finish

Today we are installing a complete front garden makeover. Our friends have recently renovated their front porch of their home in in Saratoga Springs, NY and asked us to design a garden that would be low maintenance and give four seasons of interest. Eric put together a collection of shrubs that would mix colors, textures, and bloom times to make this front yard have instant curb appeal. We are sharing the process from start to finish.
The first step in the process is to determine what kind of light situation we are working with. In this case there is morning sun and afternoon sun, providing a nice amount of part sun. We also know that the house is rented in the summer so we want to make sure the garden looks good in the other three seasons so our friends can enjoy it.

In the planting holes we are adding Scoodic Blend Compost from @Coastofmaine to give organic matter that will help feed the soil and give the plants a boost.

Breathtaking already! You have incredibly lucky friends to have you design their landscape. Their house is beautiful, I love that front porch! I laughed when Christoper was explaining the edging to keep the grass out of the bed. I made a deep edge like that to try and get rid of poison Ivy along with planting ajuga in the edge of the bed. We got so much rain in Memphis from the tropical storm that the ajuga just took a ride and stopped at the edge. Hopefully it will be dry enough tomorrow to move it back and plant six new Peachberry Ice plants I received during the downpour. I tried to order Magic Show Veronica to go with it but it was sold out. Don’t know how I came up with that idea😉 I’m so glad you went through the hydrangeas because I couldn’t decide which ones to add. Thanks so very much for sharing your incredible talent!!!! I would have hired someone to do mine and it would not have been the same. Mary B in 8a

I'm only 5 minutes into the video & I'm jumping up & down with happiness! We do the same thing, we rent our house in the summer months and that is why I have to have a garden that can survive without me (sometimes for 2 months). Beautiful choices you guys implemented! I love how the colors of the shrubs pick up the color of the door.

Love this design, and it always makes me smile when you use the Coast of Maine products... I'm moving from Zone 8a Dallas area to Zone 5b Maine (near Penobscot Bay) next spring, so those names are all familiar to me, and I'm planning to use your designs as a jumping off point for my new garden.

@@growformegardening these size flowers are perfect for bouquets, but I always wonder when I am cutting long stems if I am going to ruin the shape of the plant, since most videos only talk about spring pruning by 1/3. I was wondering in your travels if you have heard anything on this. The first year I planted mine (fall of 22), a big branch broke off on one side so now it is lopsided.
@@ralphchapman565 they will grow back, but I know what you mean. I guess you could try to cut evenly around the plant so it fills back in?

Love love love your selections! The porch remodel is beautiful. Will they paint the wood or leave as is? My dad’s firelight tidbits really got huge this year. We have to measure but probably 4x4. Perhaps the growth was due to a very wet spring. The summer has been so dry. This was their 3rd season.
They are still deciding on stain vs paint colors
Your video gave me a few more ideas for my narrow front south-facing garden bed trying not to look like the plants are lined up like soldiers, also trying to work around two very tall grasses that are positioned on either side, I plan on removing the two grasses to have more flowers or flowering plantings. I already have lavender, sedum, yarrow, lambs ear and dwarf azalea. Is there a dwarf version of hydrangea that would fit into my garden or other flowering plant not too tall for zone 7b sandy soil.
There are lots of dwarf hydrangeas. Fire Light Tidbit, Invcincibelle Wee White, etc
Hey! Did you get the plants at Gurnsey's, the place I told you both about earlier? I grew up in Scotia & Ballston Spa & my parents ONLY bought their trees & shrubs there. I finally visited Faddegon's as you recommended. What a great garden center! Can't believe I never visited before this year. Love this project & your channel!
We actually sourced them from a wholesale place down in Valatie. We haven't been to Gurnsey's just yet

Very nice! I was in Saratoga Springs in the "before times" for a conference and I loved how walkable the city is. The house was already cute and now the landscaping just elevated it. Is that long rectangle area going to be for annuals? Also what are the wood elements sitting on the concrete? They look like they are bracing something.
We didn't mention that... it's actually a form to widen the sidewalk. The braces are doing something to lift a part that was sinking
