I am 62 years old and my sweetest and mot cherished memories are those times spent with my aunt and uncle on their farm. They inspired me, but starting was a problem but with an income of $60k monthly I was able to. My first year farming generated us $142k here in Tynan, TX. We never looked back, agriculture (ranch farming) is a gold mine
That's really impressive, I'm glad you got on track even at 62
But how do you earn that much monthly? I'm genuinely curious
Big thanks to Kathleen Mary Vella
She's a licensed broker here in the states 🇺🇸
Her top notch guidance and expertise on digital market changed the game for me
Yup, gardening is such a sweet, delicate little job, isn't it..... as Laura is lugging crates of potatoes, digging up roses in soaking wet soil, blowing through drip tube, scraping, and repainting...... but we wouldn't have it any other way!♡
Thank you, Laura, for being so amazing and showing "the good, the bad and the ugly" of gardening. We all appreciate you so much!♡
Yes and all the sweating, bug bites, sun in your eyes, thorns on roses, etc.
Oh my goodness Douglas hiding in the flowers is the sweetest thing I've seen all week! 🥰
Yes!
His little face poking out was so adorable.
Laura, my husband’s uncle, a lifelong farmer, had a unique way of planting potatoes that he swore by. He would till up the ground where he was going to plant the potatoes. He would push the sets into the soil, nothing more and then cover the entire patch with a thick layer of straw, 10 to 12 inches. Come harvest time, he would rake the straw back and he was able to grab the plant and pull the plant and potatoes up, none were ruined with the fork that way. Our old timers tried and true way!
That's a great idea!
It works done similar as well
I think the chicken coup bed brings me the most joy to see when it gets all planted. We all have a small little area like that that we can use as inspiration. Love the new addition.
Gotta love Douglas hiding in the flowers on the truck bed. How satisfying to see Laura paint the chicken coop! Of course, the discovery of the majestic giant potato was my favorite part.
Watching this video I was reminded of how much you have inspired my own landscape. Thanks to you, I've put in arborvitae and roses all along my driveway, planted several trees closer to my house, planted a rose garden (and my husband built a fence and an arbor around it, complete with 2 David Austin climbing roses) and I planted 23 supertunia Vista bubblegum this year in my front flower garden. It is stunning and I have received so many compliments. My parents suffered a horrific basement collapse due to heavy rain/mudslide and I brought home the old cement blocks from that disaster and we built raised beds with them. Now, they enclose abundant strawberry plants, candy onions, cabbage, greens and cosmos. And my parents have a new basement while the old materials are still being used 🙂. Anyway, I said all that to say thank you for this channel. Because of you, I have found so much beauty and enjoyment that I always wanted but didn't know how to start.
The pot you planted at the chicken coop was absolutely delightful and so refreshing in its color combination. Great eye Laura, as always. Us armchair gardeners live vicariously through you now that our gardening days are gone by. Thank you so much!
Good call on changing the roses with those beautiful hydrangeas! So pretty!
Douglas is so cute hiding in the plants in the gator.
Sneaky little fluffy!
The chicken coop looks amazing. I love the hydrangeas there. Sooo glad Bethany is taking the roses. You are sooo giving. I agree with Gwen. Put that huge potato on your dad’s desk. Absolutely. He would get a kick outta that. 🤭🤭🤭🤭
Laura, you are the queen of container planting! I love everyone that you have planted.
Laura, I admire your energy and hard work, I’m 82 and get tired just watching you. I wish you continue energy and good health. I love your videos 👍💕💕
What a fun video! And, so productive . . . purple pansies, preparing, painting, planting, pumpkin pie and Pontiac potatoes!
You get an A in assimilation!
I want Laura's magic paintbrush! It's always loaded with paint 😊 Have a lovely day everyone ❤
The chicken coop garden has always been one of my favorites, I think because it's cottagey?? It's just cute!
Me too, it's a little cozy area !!
I think sometimes change is good and if you are not happy with an area, I agree you should dig it out and replace with something new. The hydrangea's look great. You definitely have a green thumb when it comes to growing onions and potatoes and garden produce, not just the beautiful flowers and shrubs. Hope you take the giant potato down for your dad to see. I really love starting my morning watching your videos. Have a blessed day everyone.
What a great potato crop you harvested. Amazing the large potato you dug up. Chicken coop flower bed always looks so pretty the way you design it.
That Pink Hydrangea is gorgeous 😍
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day ❤️
You too!
I would love to see your dad's reaction with the huge potato!!
I’ve always loved the chicken coop area. The changes today made it more beautiful
Laura, it is amazing how the trees have grown up to change the light requirements of the roses! But, you have always made wise choices on plant moving. The coop turned from bright and sunny to shade and dapple sun. And your color and plant choices never fail to make the changes so beautiful!❤
Good Morning from PA. Love, love, love watching you and Aaron plant and create a beautiful garden. Its my dream to be able to plant the wonderful things you plant. With all my friends downsizing, I want to move to a house with alot of land to be able to a quarter of what you do. I want to re home dogs and plant a massive garden for my family and friends. My dad loved to grow his garden and I loved walking thru it a picking cucumbers and tomatoes off the vine and eating them. Such great memories. 😊Thank you for all you do!! ❤
You want to rehome dogs? typo?
@@susanmarquette4206 Thank you for catching that.
Good Morning Laura and Aaron!!!!
I have to admit that I've never had hydrangeas in my yard before and didn't know about them until learning about them from Garden Answer. After watching for some time now I have added 10 of various varieties in my garden. I'm in love with them.
Afternoon Everyone 🥰🥰
I would love to see Bethany's garden! I would like to see what she has been doing with all these plants! I need a friend like you to help fill my garden 😉
I would like to know how all the pansies did in Bethany’s orchard!
It's private...was already said a lot of times!
That Douglas - spending time with Laura. Good to see the Chicken Coop area get the re-work you've been talking about. Painting the coop was a good idea. Very pretty. that one potato looks like a gourd.
🌿🌸 Laura I am so enjoying catching up with you through your videos this morning, & yesterday on UA-cam too. Thinking of you & want to say thank you for sharing your life with everyone...You are so special. Take care of yourself though too. God bless you & those you love. 💐❤
I make a to do list everyday(after watching GA). I start on the list and they get distracted with other things along the way. Fall seems to be the time to finish all the little jobs that didn’t happen in the summer. Absolutely love the hydrangeas in front of the coop. It has always been a favorite for me.
Good morning! How pretty the chicken coop area is with the new additions! I’m with you pull the summer annuals and plant the fall plants! So many potatoes. You have quite a crop & the size of some of those! What a great harvest.
Farming and gardening-not always the day we plan but always productive!! Loved the hydrangeas you added to chicken coop and beautiful pot! Make the bed as you want-finish planting it out! And what a potato haul! Thanks for sharing the day as it unfolded!❤❤❤
That pot is probably my favorite so far!
That's a Dads desk trophy potato for sure!!
The chicken coup area has always had a pretty look and the coup itself adds to this garden bed - country quaint. Glad to see it refreshed after a hard summer of pests. The Hydrangea have added life and color.
Love the chicken coup area. Those potatoes are amazing. You sure grow beautiful things on your land. You must lay at night tired but so satisfied
❤❤❤❤
Goodmorning everyone! Hello Laura 😊
I start each day watching Garden Answer. Can’t think of a better way to begin the day with beauty, peace and your joy in everything you do. Thanks❤
Me too 😊
Thank you for every single workout. I'm going to make today amazing by looking ahead, keeping the past in the past, and giving God the glory.
Your decision to change out the roses for the hydrangeas was brilliant. Love the look of that flower bed by the chicken coop now--much more color. Regarding that potato--Wow!!! Never saw a red-skinned potato that large before.
I love the hydrangeas in the chicken coop flower bed.
I can’t wait to see your father’s face when he see that super size potato.😁
This yard is a dream.❤
Really appreciate learning that i can switch and divide or move things around. I'm gaining confidence just watching you, Laura! Thanks so much!
Love that you share the plants you no loner use / need. Would love to see Bethany”s garden .
Good morning, wanted to share that hydrogen peroxide kills spider mites and does not hurt your plants. Someone may have already shared this, I am new to this channel and may have missed the other post. Just spray plants directly or mix with water 1/2 and 1/2 but use daily if diluting until mites are gone. Works on aphids too.
Good morning!🌻🐝
I love the changes to the chicken coop, gardening bed. I actually love the hydrangeas there and almost think that you could pop in some coral sedum to get that pop green around the edges maybe for the fall I love pink in that green together and that bed definitely needs that pink color absolutely beautiful, again thank you for sharing
Oh Laura this pot looks so lovely all together. Wonderful Job!!!!!!! Gorgeous potatoes 🥔.
The Hydrangeas are absolutely gorgeous!. Adds so much pop of color and texturecto the coop.
Get 'er done Laura. 😸
The coop is looing fancy and colorful. The chickens should be proud of their surroundings. Nice fix!
Your chicken coop garden has always been one of my favorites! I love the addition of these hydrangeas. 😊 Question! If one doesn’t have a root cellar, is there any point in growing root vegetables in bulk? I was thinking of trying potatoes, onions, and garlic, but don’t have a cellar or space that stays that cold… thanks! ❤
This is a great question! I’ve often thought the same thing. I live in zone 8b NC and have no cellar or even an outbuilding to store things in. Hoping they address this in the recap! 🤞🏻
I’m in 6b western nc and kept my sweet potatoes from last year’s harvest in a bottom cabinet in a crate all year. Not a perfect solution but it will work till we get our cellar built. We live in a 325 sq ft camper while building our homestead so I had to get creative to find the space but it was worth it!
I watch lots of homestead videos. If you have a crawl space you can use that as storage for root crops. 😊 There's so many ways you can store/ preserve your produce. Good luck 😊😊😊😊
I store mine in the dark coolest part of my cellar even though it is finished and heated. I keep the sprouted potatoes and plant them in the spring. The onions, garlic, and squash keep just fine. The dahlias are in crates of vermiculite but I do spritz with water. Carrots and beets need to be in the fridge.
That container is absolutely gorgeous!! That hydrangea is the most gorgeous color!!
In the past living on a farm, harvest time was so much fun being so self sufficient is so gratifying, you don't need to go to the produce market. It's in your own back yard. Growing your own potatoes and digging them up seeing your harvest is so gratifying, great episode!
Good article by Oregon State University about snakes in Eastern Oregon. It lists the varieties and what they eat. There are a couple that actually go down gopher holes a mole and vole holes to get their prey. These snakes are not harmful to people. Might be worth a try. Super potato harvest. 😊
Chicken coop looks refreshing and I love those hydrangeas!
The potatoes were a pleasant surprise. That big one is a potato salad for a large family.
Those hydrangeas are gorgeous in that area!
Some days it seems there's more snags than other days. All in a gardener's day Laura. The hydrangeas look gorgeous there!! I also love to change things up, especially when it's nearing the end of one season going into the next. Wow!! That is some potato crop!
Laura the pot is beautiful. Love the hydrangea at the corner of the chicken coop.
Loved watching those potatoes come out of the ground :)
You potatoes love your soil. Sooo rewarding!
Love how excited you get with each new planting!!!!
As soon as you dug the big potato 1 was thinking of your dad! I hope you take it to him! The change by the chicken coop is beautiful! Blessings 💞🙏🏻💞
Hydrangeas, especially panicle and arborescens, are really just that perfect plant to set in for colour and reliability. You really can't go wrong with them, and they are always the first plant i notice in landscapings. So pretty.
I really appreciate hearing about your garden struggles.
My garden had a horrible summer with spider mites to the point where I just wanted to give up on it all. Thanks for sharing your struggles.
I’ve always loved the chicken coop area. The hydrangeas make such a pretty addition.
I love the "domino effect" of projects, the hydrangeas look so good by coop, I'm sure the roses will be happier too. That has to be a record potato!!
Thank you for spurring me on to touching up the one foot of white paint on my porch ceiling I've been ignoring all summer. ☺ I'll put it on my to do list for today!
Those Red Pontiac potatoes are quite a prolific variety! I think I'll give them a try next year. Also glad you found the hole in the drip by the chicken coop! Bonus to changing out the roses- finding an issue and fixing!
Wow those beautiful hydranges were the right choice. Purple & pink. Lovely. The “girls” thank you too I’m sure 🌸
Pretty cool size potatoes 🥔😁
Chicken coop area looks great.
Loved seeing Douglas in hiding in between the flowers 😍
Did you put the potato on your dad's desk? Love the changes to the chicken coop bed!
I was wondering the same thing! 😂
Me too...💚
Good Morning! 🌻 That hydrangea has beautiful color! I love the way the chicken coop garden transformed!! Those potatoes are huge!💗🥔🌿
Looks like another potato for your dad! It's amazing how many you harvested!
I am so happy found you again. Love watching you. Thank you
Love the hydrangeas by the chicken coop! What a huge potatoe and great crop!
Laura, just need a cute little door mat in front of the chicken coop door! beautiful!
That area is just so sweet! I love hydrangeas and those are gorgeous! Great swap out.
You're always a breath of fresh air! Thank you!
Love the pink added to the chicken coop bed. 🌸🌸🌸
I love the new look in front of the chicken coop. There’s something about painting! You come up with new ideas while pursuing the robotic movement of applying paint. At least for me, some of my best ideas came to mind while painting.
☺️🙃
I love to see you harvest the produce. The fruit of your hands . God blessed it.
Gorgeous hydrangea!!!! Such a beautiful planting!
So excited that you opted to put the hydrangeas in front of the chicken coop. I was yelling yes, yes, do it to you from my side of the screen. Glad you also found the culprit to why that bed wasn’t doing great.
My! Those potatoes are monstrous. Enjoy your mashed potatoes. My fav.
I have seen so many versions of the area in front of the chicken coop and I think this one, with the Hydrangeas, is the best.
Look at those potatoes!! Absolutely beautiful 😍 hydrangeas are gorgeous too !!
Love the container mix Laura! What an inspiration
I love those hydrangeas in that bed. So lovely.
Love what you did in the chicken coop bed and loved seeing your potato harvest 🤩
I love how flexible u r, plans change. Great decision to take out roses & replace w/hydrangeas. Looks great! Wow, what a BIG potato! 😁
The Pot is beautiful as well as the the hydrangea and coral sedum perfection by the chickens..
Beautiful planter. You have such magic.
Oh My Word. 😂. Planting, digging up, planting again, drip fixing, scraping, painting and finishing with potato harvest. I say a very productive day. Must show Dad that beast of a potato.😂😂😂. Thanks again for sharing this with us. Appreciated. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
The chicken coop area is my favorite; such a cottage feel and the pallet walkway way the first video that pulled me in as a GA forever fan. 🌸💜🐥
Love those hydrangeas there. U r right it needed some pink. Beautiful color. Good haul on those Potatoes...that huge one...Wow!
Thank you Laura! 🪴
😲🥔!!!
What a cute compliment to your coop 🐤
This is so bright and cute but, of course my favorite color are those that bring " the PINK to the INK ON MY PALLETTE " 🩷.
Thank you Laura , for sharing the tough stuff too . Time for a mind & body break ? Lemonade on a bench over your pond in the shade might be. Ice , call Aaron . Have a beautiful day !
Wow look at those potatoes! Well done !
Yes, change the chicken coup garden to Fall plants!
Love the new hydrangeas. I would be pleased with that potato haul , a variety of sizes for a variety of uses.
I think that is the prettiest arrangement you have had in that pot! Girl, pull those summer annuals out, pop in your purple pansies and don’t look back. It is going to look awesome! The hydrangeas replacement for the Peachy Keen roses was a good change. The roses will be happier in Bethany’s garden. Did you text a picture of that potato to your dad?😂
