  • Playing the blues with my ES335 through a '64 Fender Vibroverb.
Finally I got some time to demonstrate some blues chops with my Vibroverb. The amp is loaded with a vintage EVM 15L speaker, and hence it is almost a Stevie Ray Vaughan amp. It is simply too nice for installing a bigger Twin Reverb output tranny and mess up the beautiful, original circuit with the other SRV mods that Stevie's guitar tech Cesar Diaz came up with; the trem disconnect and diode rectifier mods. That tone is not for anyone unless you regularly play stadium gigs and are capable of playing Texas Flood with a 0.13 E string with the same continous amount of power and flow that Stevie had. The 99.9999% rest of us are more happy with an original Vibroverb amp and swapping the speaker for some fun tone experimenting.
With the treble set high and bright switch on, the attack is brutal with this EVM 15L speaker. I really dig the tone of humbuckers through this amp. The clarity, sustain and crisp clean tone is ear candy to me. You may also notice the long reverb and dynamic response just by flipping the pickup selector and altering between hard pick attacks and soft finger playing. No pedals but lots of volume is required in order to set this amp in its sweet spot. Headphones are therefore necessary ;-)
May the tone be with you.
