A pair of 64 Vibroverbs with vintage JBL D130F (Reconed by Upland Loudspeaker Service in Cali) set a ways apart and connected by a Dimension D in the lowest setting is godly!

This is the Holy Grail for me, thanks Johan. SRV, love him or hate him, changed blues and brought a dying art back to the forefront along with all the greats that influenced him. Walked away loving the Brownface more, I guess I'm biased towards 10s....*side note---- Tommy is building me a Catulator for a clone i'm having built. I already have a BFSR by him with 2 JBLs E110s and 2 Celestions G10s, best SR I've ever heard. Thanks for introducing me to his work years ago. you da man

    Hi, Johan!
Strat with "Brownface" is very bright, and with LP the sound is more ballanced. In the case of "Black Vibro" its not so much trebles. But when I think about the guitar with other instruments, maybe that's the best way. But the most fine is LP with the black Vibro. Fender always gives to the trebles more place. But maybe I am in LP mood today..:-) SEE YOU!

Sounds great! I heard that Alice Cooper tone too. Those Blonde/Brown 40 watt amps are some of my favorite amps of all time! I used to have one of those brown vibroverbs, I really miss that amp, the 2x10 supers are nice too. That Black amp really likes humbuckers! I recently got a '61 Bandmaster with the 1x12 tone ring cab, I still need to go through it and make sure it's tuned up and safe to run. I'm hoping it will have that Blonde/Brown 40 watt magic, pretty sure it will.

The Strat through both amps is a rock solid groove! Les paul is cool too of course..I have been wanting to hear some of these amps. I think maybe it is a tiny bit better with the 15", maybe.. I still have not heard one in person though, just on here..How much would one of these go for in $? Is the re-issue supposedly with the Stevie Ray modification good, better, or worse, than these? I have not seen that one for sale either..it seems these are kind of rare.

Wonderful amps! I tend to prefer Blackface Fenders, but in this one, the '63 Brownface has absolutely astounding tones. Very harmonically rich with overtones, and just the right kind of overdrive. The '64 seems a little bit thin and narrow by comparison. (Which might be just the thing to sit in a band mix.) The clear choice is to use an ABY pedal and run both, with the Blackface set cleaner, with more reverb and just a hint of tremolo. Meanwhile, the '63 is set dry and full tilt. That would be some godlike noise. Great video, as always. Only one question: what's going on with Simon's feet?

  • @realgoodmind

Ah there is that 63 strat I want as well. Something about the blackface just has that extra mojo. I like the LP on the brownface more and the strat on the blackface. Now I had two Deluxe Reverbs Blackface and Silverface, was not crazy how they sounded with my Les Paul, got rid of both. Marshall + Les Paul = oh YES! however with Fenders the situation changes, yes the hierarchy (if one wants warm wooden tones or SRV is still the same Tweed > Brown, >>> blackface, agree?
