    So funny, my ears instantly picked up when the Goldtop was being used. Gibson guitar into a Fender amp, hard to beat.😊

    I have a 1972 Band Master Reverb that I Vibrocloned, Blackfaced, beefier OT etc. Put in a combo cab with an Altec 418B. Very happy with it. I love these amps big time. Thank you for the comparison and knowledge you guys bring. Greatly appreciated!! Excellent descriptions as well!! Cheers!!

    Welcome back guys and what a great video! I really enjoyed Aynsley Lister running the amps through their paces. The comparison of how the P90 responded compared to the stat pickups was also fun to hear!

    I have a thing for the brown panel amps.
    I have just got an Emprize Amps "Monarch" , based on a brown princeton with bias trem and switchable negative feedback 👌👌👌

    Now I'm curious about that '63 Vibroverb versus some of the other brown panel amps...I have a '61 Super that's great but it's fairly different from any black panel amps I've owned. Sounds like it was a serious design change from brown to black panel eras. Aynsley is always impressive, and love those big headstock Fenders he favors.

      Well good luck.. The vintage 63’ Vibroverb’s are not only ridiculously hard to find, But are will run you SERIOUS cash!You know, I’m a big fan of the 70’s large headstock Stratocaster’s as well! It’s funny most people hate them, I know guys who will go as far as not buying one regardless of how fantastic it plays/sounds etc.. And yeah, Ansley Lister always sounds incredible!

And a BIG thanks for introducing Mr. Lister to me. Don't know how he slip under my RADAR for so long, but really cool to find a guitarist/musician that strikes a Major-CHORD with my musical tastes. Heading to AMAZON to fetch a few of his albums. PEACE🙏

    My main gigging amp through the 80's and 90's is a 64 Pro that was royally butchered aka "boogied" before I got it, and I have plans but no budget to return it to the original aa763 circuit, all by way of saying the amp's sound is all about the single 15. I used to think it was a black frame jensen, but it's just the stock cts ceramic, it just has something

    • @JasonWright-mc6dz
      @JasonWright-mc6dz Місяць тому

      Oh yeah, absolutely! The Black/Browface open back cabinet single 15” combo’s have a very distinctive sound. I guess I can understand the mindset of someone back in the early 70’s wanting to “Hot-Rod” an amplifier that today is coveted as a prized historical relic. They really didn’t know what they had, it’s like a guy swapping the speaker & modding the bejesus out of a Blues Junior. It’s still a shame, Although it really isn’t that difficult or expensive at all to have a 60’s amp circuit restored to back to original specs. If you brought your Pro to a tech I think you’d be very pleasantly surprised!!

    The JBL in the '64 is why it sounds huge and they are bright and highly efficient. Those Oxford speakers in the '63 really are not efficient and are very mid heavy. You run them through the same driver and that brown will shine through.
    That '64 with a Jensen p15 would be glorious.

    Ed’s brown panel amp for me …
    The black panel ‘64 Vibroverb sounds similar to my blackface Pro Reverb - and although it has great tone, there’s something ‘gutsy’ about that brown Vibroverb.

    Nice playing. The brown Vibroverb was made in April and May, 63. Date codes on the tube charts of MD and ME respectively. The MD code and production run#1 was in pencil. For May, ME was stamped in along with the #2. I have never seen any other codes or run info. If anyone has one that varies from this please respond.

    They’re incorrect about the vibrato on the brownface. The 1960-1963 Fender vibrato circuits use three 12ax7s to create a harmonic pitch-based vibrato, not the volume based tremolo that began in 1964 with the blackface circuits.

    • @elliotvernon7971
      @elliotvernon7971 Місяць тому

      That’s generally true, but not the case with the brown Vibroverb - it uses the same 6L6 bias vibrato as used on the later tweed amps.

    Tallinn about amps, but using them as stools and hiding them by sitting on them.
    In my eyes that's a bad concept.
    And, it makes you look poor.
    You could use a pair of chairs.
    The amps could be free to be displayed.

    The blackface is way better. The brown is all nasally mids and ice pick in the earhole highs. Compared head to head the blackface is so much more pleasing and smooth. 6 speakers? Bet it was loud. Surprised it didn’t blow his pants legs off.
