I get that this is a review of MCP2, but you should've mentioned SD2PSX as an alternative. While it's nowhere close to the MCP2 feature-wise when it comes to connectivity, it's cheaper, open-source and still is a great option for those who just need a modern memory card replacement for PS1 and PS2.
I really want one to pair with my systems. It's nice that they added the step for PS3 connectivity as well as PS1 functionality. I may need to order one today and sell off my PS3 memory card loaders.
Been pretty happy with the MCP1 for my PS1. Wasn't intending to get the MCP2 as I have a couple of those Katana 32MB cards, but 8BitMods just announced a firmware update today that enables the MCP2 to automatically identify original PS1 and PS2 discs on unmodified consoles. Which is AWESOME because my PS1 and PS2 are not modded. I'm totally getting one now once it goes back in stock.
Not YET, but it seems technically possible. However... Some other stuff is way higher on the priority-list, like **Game-Card-switching for EVERYTHING that writes to the "history" (that's for the "towers" in the intro sequence of the PS2) WITHOUT THE NEED FOR HOMEBREW for discs, is one thing being worked on for example. I just got mine today, and it's really nifty. No more do I have to worry about finding a memory card for the Playstation 2. The packaging says it works for the PS1, but I already have a Memcard Pro for my PS1 system. Just to forewarn, it's a slightly tight fit in the memory slot, but it's nothing serious. Just for those that are planning to get it, keep that in mind. Heck, you still need to buy it if you have a PS2.
Also its good to know to make sure that the person has the OPL version that has the GameID feature in order for the MCP2 to do its job. The older versions won't have that and in the instruction manual it links where to get the proper OPL version.
What a perfect timing indeed i just modded my ps2 with a 1TB HDD and i was trying to figure out a way to have my saves without needing the memory cards, and this is it a way to acess and create Virtual memory cards, awesome 👍🏻😎
I gotten this card a few weeks ago and just now starting to work with it. And I tell you this is an AMAZING card and was worth the wait! I did test putting the card into my PS1 console which has the X-Station, and the mode switched automatically to the PS1 mode. Unfortunately when I placed it back into my PS2 it was still in the PS1 mode so I had to switch it manually. In addition if you put in a physical PS1 disc (switching to PS1 mode on the console) the MCP2 will also change to that mode. I guess that If the card was updated to where it can automatically switch back to PS2 that would be awesome. In addition the other issue with the MCP2 is that when in OPL when your playing a game obviously the VMC will show the current game being played. If one uses the IGR though it won't work since the MCP2 has to be back on the FMCB card for it to work (I have yet to test this). And as for PS3 compatibility that is sooo awesome even though I have the PS3 Mem card adapter back when it was cheap back in the day. What a time to be alive in this modern gaming age!! Great job on this video!
Cool I just ordered one for myself as they are fantastic cards the previous two I have got from them. Wounder why game cube one is the most costly one.
Holy moly. I just checked out the price for this thing and that's amazingly cheap for what it is! It's just a shame all of my retro consoles are packed away until we buy our own house as I'd love one of these for my PS2. I also think that it's awesome that it works with the PS3 to import game saves, that's super handy.
I got a free PS2 last year and just got around to doing something with it yesterday, and was looking for a good way to run homebrew on it lol. This is PERFECT timing.
Just last week I finally bought myself a fat PS2 and a 2tb hard drive, and set everything up on it because I just got my MemCard Pro 2 in the mail haha. Been enjoying some .hack lately. Great video, Tito!
Countless amazing titles I've owned for the PS2 and they're quite good on the stock console for point of reference until we can retire this thing forever. Nice showcase!
I might have to pick one of these up! Only thing that would make it sweeter is if there were some way to load your games to the mem card's SD card instead of having to rely on the internal HDD. Only a small thing but would help enable my use on my super slim.. Unless there is already a provision for that and it just wasn't discussed?
The tipping needle in my mind was kind of leaning towards buying one, but on top of PS1 compatibility and OPL on the PS2, showing the bonus PS3 feature made that needle in my mind shatter on the floor of the buying side. Purchased! Hopefully MechaPwn doesn't mess with the card in any way!
Any idea when these will be available again to purchase!?!?! I definitely will be picking one of these up. Just recently picked up a ps2 and reliving my teenage year avoiding all the short content. I will buy one of these Memory cards for my PS2......no doubt....now the biggest question is Tito, will they make a VMU for Dreamcast?......imagine the possibilities.....
It's so good, I recently bought 8BitDo Retro Receiver Mini, I would like to see one day convert the RJ45 to Wi-Fi or integrated into a memory card to be able to play online games (with custom DNS) because it It's annoying to make a PS2 bridge with my laptop to be able to play online or leave the cable lying on the floor too far to the modem box...
I expect them to make one for the Xbox original. Since they did have the option to use memory cards too. The memcard on a original xbox will be good for. Tranfer your data. But transfer your memory of a iso from your memcard to your hard drive.Who knows what they can do for the original xbox if they release a memcard for it.
I honestly doubt it. So much modding for the Xbox has involved the hard drive (or ssds commonly used) for saving and isos. You can also already use flash drives with a usb to controller port cable. There just isn’t a need for a memory card replacement.
Personally, I have multiple 512GB MicroSD cards, which I can easily store not only save files, but also dump backups of ISO file PS2 and PS1 (Bin+cue+ISO files) into the MicroSD card if necessary. Althought this one only does save files for PS1 and PS2, I do hope it'll also be a tool to dump backups of our games so we can boot it up through McBoot without using the disc again (just so the disc doesn't end up having cracks or scratches from the console's Disc Player in the future). And yes, if they ever make one for the Saturn, N64, Dreamcast and Original Xbox (Xbox One/Xbox 2001/The First Xbox), then pretty much the 5th and 6th generation of consoles would be complete.
@@tnaplastic2182 What I'm saying is if they would like to, implement a feature where you can dump your own games into the MicroSD card and play it on either the PS2 or an emulator. I know there are other methods out there that can do it already, but it'll be interesting if 8BitDo does that themselves or something like that.
@@SuperFlashDriver I already wrote, that it is possible but not yet implemented. We (PS2 Scene and OPL Developers) are in a collaboration with 8bitmods and PixelFX and will work on this later. @@tnaplastic2182 Oh, I didn't realize you were a part of those communities, my mistake (I thought you were some random consumer, but I was clearly wrong).
How tf do you even buy it
I really want one to pair with my systems. It's nice that they added the step for PS3 connectivity as well as PS1 functionality. I may need to order one today and sell off my PS3 memory card loaders.
Cool!
OOOOOOOH NOOOOOO, BIGG CHOPPPPYYYYYYY
(Translation: there are some massive stutters in some shots)
Yeah that’s super strange not sure what happened there
@@MachoNachoProductions hey, at least I can still watch it
I thought I was going crazy lol
@@Waldem nah, you’re working properly
This is timely. My MemCard Pro 2 is en-route to me right now.
Does this work with PS2 Slims (for the PS1 mode)?
I had to order a specific PS1 card to use it
Yes!
This has been a great card to pick up. One memory card and done.
wait, i'm confused now, does this Memcard Pro load roms or not? and if yes, can it also load PS1 roms on the PS2?
No and No.
Another is SIO-Debug for developers!
There are quite a few things to get straight and 100% working first.
This is the OG mod for PS2. MC + MX4SIO with the WiFi functionallity for just 40 bucks. This is really fair. Why i've bought the MX4SIO??? Thank you for this really good video!
I'm not sure why this is preferred over having OPL create a VMC on the HDD or SMB server.
Yeah, I'm looking at this going "Why would I use this over FreeHDBoot?"
Maybe because VMC is not compatible with all games, nor does VMC offer what this hardware does (including SUPER EASY transfer of saves between EVERYTHING, unlike managing VMCs directly)?!?
@@MajorOutage "over"??? What does FHDB have to do with MemoryCards? Ooooh... NOTHING... Another Noob talking out of his butt.
@@tnaplastic2182 FreeHDBoot puts OPL on the hard drive, and it can do virtual memory cards saved to the HDD, so you...wait for it...don't need a memory card at all.
That is the point. Goodbye FreeMcBoot.
If you still want a memory card, though, all the more power to you, I guess.
@@MajorOutage Yeah no... FHDB itself has NOTHING to do with VMCs, nor what is being installed...
What you claim is nonsense as well, because... wait for it... Not all games are compatible with VMCs, nor SIO-hooking, so you are actively spreading MISINFORMATION!
FHDB isn't portable either and can't be moved back and forth between PC, PS1, PS2, PS3 either...
This is not only just "a MemoryCard" either, but could enable MX4SIO-Gaming as well as...
HID-Emulation for ANY HID being connected via BT and ANY platform it is connected to!
Show me that MemoryCard or FHDB or OPL that does that and could do that... OOOOOOH... There is NONE!
I ordered mine around December and waiting to get it and i do have the previous one on my ps1 and love it ❤
Dual-core 240Mhz CPU in a memory card? That's almost more power than the PS2 itself.
Yeah no... You obviously have no clue about hardware. You are probably one of those who would claim that the 733Mhz CISC x86 32Bit CPU of an XBOX is more powerful than the PS2's EE 128Bit SIMD/MMI capable super-scalar RISC CPU including its VUs, FPU and so on and a non-interlocked pipeline at ~300MHz...
@@tnaplastic2182 Why do you have to be so condescending about it?
@@Woodzta I am not condescending but exposing misinformation.
This thing is amazing. Near infinite storage (for a PS2) and the ability to switch itself and manage your save games automatically is incredible. I wonder if they'd ever add pop starter support...
Sickle is currently adding history-based Game-ID-Fetching and POPStarter might actually do a write "history", but it uses VMCs anyway.
Hate these videos!!!!!!! They always empty my wallet!!!!!!!!😂
😂
The only thing I hate about these besides click baity titles is how I have to look at the guy. He looks gross and the segments he films himself add nothing to the narration.
WOW! With as much as I use OPL with all of the game covers, I have to buy this! Thanks for the video.
this ruins the nostalgia for me. i highly prefer the original memory cards
How and for what?
@@tnaplastic2182 what do you mean how. its a new item, how is that nostalgic
@@RideRedRacer You made a positive claim, that YOU have to substantiate. It is not upon me to falsify your positive claim that you have not substantiated yet.
That's called the "reversing the burden of proof fallacy".
I've always really liked your intro music sir ❤ (also the videos themselves)
Sorry but this item is useless with Free Mcboot and OPL. As you know, and you don't point out. OPL lets you create your own virtual Memory Card.
You are talking out of your ass, because you have no clue what you are talking about and hence make positive (false) claims that you cannot and will not be able to substantiate, especially if you'd get fact-smacked.
You are right, but not every game properly supports OPLs built in virtual memory card feature.
My comment is gone... WTF??
Sorry, but your comment is useless, because you make FALSE claims about something you know NOTHING about!
Been waiting for something like this for ps2 since I saw the ps1 version, thank you for the review, instant purchase using your link
I can imagine if they make a men card pro for the Dreamcast, the OLED display would double as the VMU.
Love that ps2 is still getting love! :)
What a perfect timing indeed i just modded my ps2 with a 1TB HDD and i was trying to figure out a way to have my saves without needing the memory cards, and this is it a way to acess and create Virtual memory cards, awesome 👍🏻😎
I'm sorry to inform you, but Opl already has that feature.
@@nrobsoekim yes but correct me if I'm wrong, you can't just access the virtual memory cards from the HDD right?
@@jacesol00 fair enough point.
Dreamcast Memcard is needed but Id love to see an Xbox Memcard Pro as well 👀
I gotten this card a few weeks ago and just now starting to work with it.
Pre ordered mine over christmas, cant wait for it to arrive!
Cool I just ordered one for myself as they are fantastic cards the previous two I have got from them. Wounder why game cube one is the most costly one.
Yes! Classic intro music is back
Hello robot Tito never knew you were animated!
The memcard pro series are the one tech in this hobby that are *always* an *immediate* buy for me these days.
Man, I'd love to have a white fat PS2!
Great video, Tito!

ok, this is crazy what this thing can do ! 😲
That's just the beginning! Btw.: SD2PSX exists since over a year. Just saying...
Thought it was my device. Glad the video looks off to others and not just me.
Countless amazing titles I've owned for the PS2 and they're quite good on the stock console for point of reference until we can retire this thing forever. Nice showcase!
Wow, all three consoles. Been thinking about getting each for obvious reasons.
Never considered the need for a memory card like this but having an easy free mcboot without having to swap cards has me sold.
I might have to pick one of these up! Only thing that would make it sweeter is if there were some way to load your games to the mem card's SD card instead of having to rely on the internal HDD. Only a small thing but would help enable my use on my super slim.. Unless there is already a provision for that and it just wasn't discussed?
MX4SIO exists and who knows... Maybe there will be a similar mode available for MemoryCard-Emulators in the future as well!
MechaPwn'd consoles work fine with it.
This literally makes me want to collect a ps2 library
Thanks! I just ordered one not too long ago.
It's only a matter of time until someone installs and runs Linux on it.
@@aemerox5773 Well... The Kernel might actually already be Linux-based! 😁
Any idea when these will be available again to purchase!?!?! I definitely will be picking one of these up. Just recently picked up a ps2 and reliving my teenage year avoiding all the short content. I've watched alot of your videos and it's awesome that people are not only keeping these old consoles alive but also developing mods with new technologies. Pretty pumped to be able to play on my flat screen as well as not have to change any of my disks. Kids now days have no idea the risks that where taken just to switch games. Keep up the great content but really I need this memory card!!
Damn you Titto for this video! I just put my order through, another fine product your show casing, a product I never knew I wanted, but must have.
Now I have to explain to my wife the missing $ :)
The vmc feature sold me
Planning on getting this device for my psx-desr 5000
OH HELL YES. I have the PS1 card and its amazing with the Xstation. Def gonna get this.
A Dreamcast VMU with all that functionality would be great!
Being worked on by another team AFAIR.
Huh?? We don't need discs to boot apps, since a very long time...
Booting games from it is possible IMO, but not yet implemented.
Currently there are more important things to work on, like Game-ID-Retrieval without the need for Homebrew, which works with discs and even OPL 0.9.3, etc.
@@tnaplastic2182 Oh, I didn't realize you were a part of those communities, my mistake (I thought you were some random consumer, but I was clearly wrong). I think the reason why I brought it up is for those that want an easy way to dump their own games instead of using a separate method or device to do the same thing. I just didn't know what's the current status of the device so far that's all (didn't even bother to check where the original website or forum the 8BitDo is mentioning about so, that's on me).
I have all 3 Memcard Pros, but i havent used this one yet. I need to get my PS2 set up already!
some slow frame drops in some places but this makes it better than having to install a hard drive now i can just use a sd card instead though a hard drive is still nice to have
