  • In this video, I'll show you how I do a version the experiential technique of family sculpting that Virginia Satir made famous, which was born out of family systems work. Having worked with teens for a decade I've also created a version of it in which you don't need the family - this also works if you're online doing family therapy and I include examples of this in the video. When doing this without a family or group present it's an awesome exercise to build rapport with teenage clients who usually like any excuse to talk about their family.

If you're looking to build rapport with teens but don't work with their families, then you're in luck! In this video, I'll show you how to do family sculpting without the family- and still get the results of insight, understanding and that much-needed rapport building. This technique will help you build rapport with your teens and recapture their trust. Simply follow the instructions in this video and watch the results unfold!
Family sculpting is one of those incredible techniques where you use people in the group, or real members of the family if it's a family therapy session, to create a living sculpture that reflects a subjective experience that the client has of their family.
I'd ask the person who volunteered to sculpt their family and we're normally going with the IP to think about who in the group, they're going to get to play each family member. Obviously, if this is a family, they're probably going to pick dad to play dad and the sibling to play the sibling. But if it's a group of teenagers, I'm curious who they pick and why.In this video, I'll show you how I do a version the experientia technique of family sculpting that Virginia Satir made famous, which was born out of family systems work. And I might process that later. First of all, I asked where they would like to position themselves in the sculpture and remind them that they have the whole space to use

Lots of attention given to dad. Dad is center of attraction. Looks like everyone also wants dad's time or attention.

The kids are a family with their dad. Dianna is alone with the dog as if she is not a part.
    I feel sad about that.

You’re totally getting it. These images and sculptures can really bring up feelings in us, and we can use those feelings to inform how we talk to the family or drive our interventions
