    That looks like an old 2U D8. My dad had one just like it. 30s vintage. But let's give her a fighting chance, hook to the draw bar like it was designed. Not the blade which was designed to push. Also that was about the lightest D8 on the books. Or better yet, hook it to the logging winch.

    In the end it comes down to traction. You can have as much power as you like but the surface area 80 tyres gripping the ground each with about 250kg of weight on each is just more than the grip of 2 tracks with 6000 odd kg on each track

    • @daviddaddy
      @daviddaddy 7 років тому +4

      It gives the trucks the advantage because they are pulling at a much lower center of gravity giving them far superior traction! Where as the dozer is pulling at such a high point hes getting minimal traction and getting lifted so hes not able to gain full traction.

    • @dhoffman4994
      @dhoffman4994 7 років тому +2

      daviddaddy Yep. The dozer didn't even have full tracks on the ground when the Toyota's were winning.

    • @justforever96
      @justforever96 6 років тому +11

      What are you talking about? The chain was attached HIGHER than the whiffletree (the I-beam). When they pull on it, it's pulling BACK and DOWN, grinding the tracks into the ground. You are totally backward. If the chain had been hooked to the hook on the back of the dozer and a hook on the back of a TALLER machie, THEN it would be lifting the weight. Watch it again, and if you still think it's "lifting" the dozer, you're wrong. Even if it WAS lifting the front, it'd still be forcing the REAR of the tracks down into the soil, like one of those portable towing anchors.

    I get that there are people talking about the physics of ground force and traction, but if you watch the video you can clearly see that the front of the dozer was lifted off the ground. This prevented it from hooking up but it still put up a helluva fight. Should have been attached from the rear.

    The Toyotas total about 100,000 pounds, I would guess. The D8, probably 60,000 to 70,000. I thought the dozer's tracks would make up the difference, with better traction, but they didn't. This was an interesting scenario. Try it with a dozer that weighs the same as the total of the Toyotas, say a 70s model D9. I think a modern D10, would never spin a track.

    ‏The Innate Nature in man recognizes what is good and bad, what is true and false. It recognizes that the Attributes of Allah must be True, Unique, and All-Perfect. It does not feel comfortable towards any kind of degradation of His Attributes not does it qualities to the Creator. Many who became “discontent with God” did so because of the practices of the Church in medieval Europe and because of the claims of “god dwelling in a son” and the concept of the “original sin”. However, they “escaped” into worshipping a new theory called “mother nature” as well as the “material” World. With the advancement of materialistic technology others from different religions adopted the concept of “forgetting about God” and “let us live this life and enjoy it!”, not realizing that they have chosen the worship of the “original god” of Rome: Desire!.
    ‏NOW we can see that all of this materialistic and secular progress produced a spiritual vacuum that led to complex social, economical, political, and psychological problems. Many of those who “fled” their “religions” are in search again. Some try to “escape” the complexity of their daily lives via various means. Those who had the chance to examine the Qur’an and Islam, proceed with a complete way of life that relates man to establish a purpose for his presence on earth. This is well recognized in the Attributes of Allah and what does He require from man. He does not want man to be enslaved to any false deity: nature, drugs, lust, money, other man, desire, or sex. He provides man with the proofs that He is the One who can redeem so that man can free himself from the slavery to any form of creation and to turn to his Creator Alone. THIS Creator Has Perfect Attributes. He is the First, nothing is before Him, the Ever Living. To Him is the Final Return where everyone will be dealt with in the Most Perfect and Just way. He does not begot nor He is begotten. Those who attribute Divinity to Jesus forget or ignore the fact that Jesus was in a mother’s womb. He needed nutrition; he was born and grew up to be a man. He was trusted with the Gospel as a Message to the Children of Israel: “For there is One God, and one mediator (i.e. a messenger) between God and men (the Children of Israel), the man Christ Jesus) (I Timothy 2:5). A man-messenger calling his nation not to worship him: “But in vain they do worship me!” (Mathew 15:9). A man who needs to eat, walk, sleed, rest, etc.. cannot have Divine Attributes because he is in need and God (Allah) is Self-Sufficient.

    RIDICULOUS----- FIRST of all, the grouser bars on the tracks of the CAT are badly worn. No one can see THAT? SECONDLY, the tow bar should never have been hooked up to the blade where it is. I assume there is not a draw bar on the cat because THAT is where it should be hooked up. Proper traction is lacking for the Cat because of the worn tracks. "Cat had a wrong gear" LMFAO First gear, engine revving, and PROPER TRACTION FOR THE CAT----then i will be interested. If you are going to do this, DO IT RIGHT! This here is just BULLSHIT! Then to top it off the Cat operator raises the blade higher to make it even worse for the Cat. Must have been a Toyota owner running the Cat. LOL

    The way it was chained to the blade, it pulled the front end of the dozer up, and reduced the traction on it. That's a good part of the pushing power of the D8.

      Wrong. The trucks are hooked BELOW the chain. The chain is pulling BACK and DOWN. Open your eyes. Even if it was pulling straight back, it'd be lifting the FRONT, transferring all the weight to the BACK of the tracks, driving them into the ground.

    • @adjustablehammer3749
      @adjustablehammer3749 6 років тому +3

      justforever96 yeah but look at the ground to get maximum traction you need all the track on the ground the back might end up with more weight but it is still going to slip more have you ever had any experience with tracked equipment?

    • @dplant8961
      @dplant8961 6 років тому +2

      Hi, justforever96.
      Your 'theory' is interesting but lacking in one 'tiny, minor' detail. In lifting the front of the dozer's tracks off the ground - as it OBVIOUSLY does in the video - that rigging was reducing the dozer's ground contact area and thus it ability to get traction, IN SPITE OF the fact that weight was being transferred to the lesser ground contact area at the rear.
      For others who are guessing about it, from the fuel tank with the forward extension on the right side on that D8, it would appear to be a 13A series D8 which would have been around 160 to 180 horsepower and built from around November, 1953, onward.

    this test has nothing to do with who can out pull who, clearly off road tiers will get more traction than one small dozer, the combined weight of the toyotas' is vastly greater than that of the dozer, make the weights even then the test might be fair. the dozer never once ran out of power, it ran out of traction.

  • @armchairgeneral7557
    @armchairgeneral7557 9 років тому +1

    The D8 driver failed. I felt he didn't give it enough RPMs leading up to the tug, turns out he nearly stalled the dozer out of the gate. He should of had the RPMs at 3/4 throttle so when the tug started, he had the power available to the tracks. Don't think the results would have been any different, but I would have liked to have seen it done better.

  • @daviddaddy
    @daviddaddy 7 років тому +1

    It gives the trucks the advantage because they are pulling at a much lower center of gravity giving them far superior traction! Where as the dozer is pulling at such a high point hes getting minimal traction and getting lifted so hes not able to gain full traction. Id lile to see this again with equal rigging!
