I am so glad to own a 9CT. I originally was gonna get the Zenith, but we all know those stocks have dried up fast and recent importation had halted. The 9CT is just like how I remembered shooting the MG rental at my local range. 9CT does have a way better trigger, imo. I picked the PTR MP5 Clone since it had the best deal from Atlantic Firearms. Love that it comes in a very nice case too that fits the foam molding(with some minor shaping cuts here and there) with the brace folded. So nice of a package. Now to get some MP5 Straight mags and curved mags. MP5 is one of my dream guns. So much iconic visuals in movies and video games. UPDATE: 10:24 I also had a similar malfunction too at around 160 rounds, but it never occurred again after shooting another 200 or so rounds. My 9CT still going smooth, especially with an AAC TiRant 9mm suppressor. I will say the threads are bit longer so it didn't seat all the way down the end of the threads, but it did hit the shoulder so it was relatively secure.
For those who don't know, the roller delay feature is coveted because it makes the MP5 more accurate and controllable than traditional blowback designs. Lacking a locking or delaying feature, traditional blowback designs rely on the mass of the bolt for timing and reliable function. This means the bolt must be relatively heavy and because it begins rearward travel immediately upon firing, while the bullet is inside the bore, this increase in moving mass has a detrimental effect on both accuracy and control. The HK roller lock mechanism solves both these issues. By delaying rearward travel of the bolt until the bullet has exited the muzzle and pressures have dropped, the MP5 and its clones eliminate moving mass while the bullet is still in the bore, greatly increasing accuracy. And by delaying operation until pressures have dropped significantly, the bolt carrier group on the MP5 is much lighter than traditional blowback designs, meaning less recoil and enhanced controllability. The combination of reliability, accuracy, and controllability made the MP5 a legend in the special operations and law enforcement communities, and it is still the gold standard by which all other SMGs are judged, and most to this day found wanting.
That was an excellent review! I watched right to the end, very well done, your delivery was very polished. After a while i thought it was a PTR official video!
I always look at the ejection pattern on a gun. I don't know if it's really important, but it seems like this version is throwing brass all over the place and there is no set pattern. The H&K versions seem to throw the spent brass in a very precise way. I'm thinking there's a little bit of "you get what you pay for", but not 100% sure it matters all that much. I'm currently waiting for the H&K to become available at something close to MSRP. Some of these "replicas" are getting my attention as H&K doesn't seem that interested in importing these guns in appropriate numbers (and I'm not spending $4,000!)
I've watched the PTRs for quite a while, they are very solid, very well made. I was looking for a couple years for a 91k, with a short 16 in barrel, no luck! But this, this looks like it would be every bit as nice, and more practical and the 91 is freakin heavy as shit! I agree, now way would I spend close to $3k!
@@TacTony got me 90% of the way there, but have decided that it really needs a binary trigger to finish it out. Really fantastic gun, extremely easy to control, and effective.
Nice, I'm sure you'll love it. I know that feeling though, when I first got in to guns, I could only set aside like 30-50 bucks a month. So I would constantly eat instant noodles and drink nothing but tap water to scrounge up enough dough to buy cool stuff.
I am tired of AR-15 people constantly complaining about price. Guns (especially rifles) will never be near AR-15 prices until they are made in the same amounts as AR-15s are made. It's really that simple. Of course design plays a factor in the price, but quantity is the biggest factor. So if you want to buy something cool that's not an AR-15, IT'S GOING TO COST MORE. This gun is cool and quality and not some century arms garbage, so it comes with a higher price tag than your vanilla AR-15. Even AR-10s are expensive! Great review! Great gun! Rant over!
@@teddyfresh9605 At this point in America, if you're a serious gun enthusiast you SHOULD own an AR-15, maybe even 2 or 3. But at what point does adding another AR-15 to your gun safe add any value, collectibility, or enjoyment? So once you have your few AR-15s, go buy some other guns and realize that they will cost more than your ARs, but they'll also be more unique (and maybe even better).
It's the same story with AK's- between sanctions and the state of the AR market, it's a pain to get ahold of a decent AK for a reasonable price these days. I certainly can't fault American manufacturers for NOT wanting to dive-in on 'tooling up' to crank out Kalashniklones. When you're competing with AR's that can be had for $500 (sometimes less- if you don't care about quality) on top of the AK's lack of modularity (because we all know how much the gun community loves to trick out their equipment) trying to bring a satisfactory product to market is gonna be rough.
@StripperTipper-405 The CZ Scorpion evo (I'm assuming you're referring to) is a simple blow-back delayed firearm. The MP5 is a roller-lock delayed gun. The MP5 is a more complex gun to produce, therefore it costs more to produce. Not to mention they are copying a design, not creating a new and more efficient one. An MP5 clone is a cool gun, with a less common design (roller-lock). It's unique. That's why you buy one. Besides, don't you think if a quality MP5 clone could be sold for $500 new, then someone would make one already. It would sell out so fast! But no one does. I think you can figure out why.
I ran less than 2 mags through mine and the hammer broke in half. I have never seen that before on any gun. I have not called PTR customer service so i have no idea if they will replace it. I looked on HK Parts and they don't have MP5 9mm hammers in stock.
Absolutely love mine! A bit expensive, but I had to have it! Glad I watched this, I'm one of the people who didn't read the manual about a break in period, oops.
I bought one of these a while back and SBR'd it, and love it. It's very accurate (way more so than the POF mp5 which I ended up returning) and very reliable. That being said, there are numerous things that you overlooked here. First of all, the gun is great, but the presentation and marketing (read: pricepoint)for this are a disaster. The included case for this is very nice. It's also a complete waste. Why? Because the folding brace that comes with the damn gun doesn't even fit into it. You have to remove it entirely, put the standard end cap back on, then cram the brace in there before taking it to the range. Then repeat that same process in reverse when you get there. Also, the sling that comes with it doesn't even work with the brace on it. So you now have a gun, a brace, a sling and a case, and you can't get more than two of them to work with each other at the same time. Horrible design. Whoever came up with this spent 0 time thinking about it. That means that the "totally-doesn't-add-100-dollars-to-the-price" case and the $150 brace effectively added another 200-300 dollars to this price tag. Can you imagine how much more attention these would be getting in the 1200-1300 price range? Tons. The aluminum foregrip is disaster number two. It looks dumb, and doesn't block the heat from the barrel nearly as much as the classic wide tropical grip. That means people who actually want the classic grip are having to invest even MORE money into this gun. The final disaster is the pre-welded rail on top, which virtually one wants or was asking for. All of that being said, I don't regret my purchase, but I'd like an explanation from PTR as to why their HK91 clone costs about 60% of their 9CT, even though it uses the same technology, way more metal, and has, if anything, even less of a market. Had they sold these for $1000-1300, they'd probably be the talk of the town. As is, they instead produced a really nice gun that's too expensive for its own good, and for all the wrong reasons.
I SBR'ed mine as well. I think the price was set by the existing MP5 market rather than the cost of manufacture. If you look at the Omega, Zenith, etc. $1600 is right in that ballpark. Never mind the fact that a PTR 91 can be had for under a grand, if you want an MP5, you have to pay MP5 price. Essentially PTR is being greedy.
@@55grainFMJ Omega, yes, Zenith no. A Zenith is 500 dollars more. Also the POF is $300 cheaper, and things like Dakota Tactical are over twice as much. In other words, there is no "set market price". Prices are all over the place. PTR makes a great product (aside from questionable presentation choices as I mentioned), and they could absolutely cornered the market on MP5 clones by selling these 200-300 cheaper than they did. A missed opportunity, I feel.
@@jasoncown That feeling when you're not smart enough to refute any of the multiple valid points that someone brings up, so you just called them a jackass. What a little child you are.
Love my PTR-9CT. Used to have SP89 and prefer the PTR in every way. If you want the traditional MP5 look. PTR- 9CT-CL, has standard forend and claw mount.
Slight correction for you: the gun measures a OAL of 26.5" with the brace (which per ATF guidance is measured with it extended as long as it is not modified). This means you can run a VFG on it with it being legally classified as a firearm instead of a SBR removing the requirement for a tax stamp but also removing the legal flexibility you get with a handgun classification. Note: this measurement was taken with the thread protector removed as it adds a hair of length on the end.
I wouldn't trust that assessment. It started life as a pistol, so it will foreved be a pistol according to the ATF (until you SBR it) so of they catch you with a vertical grip on a braced pistol I don't think overall legnth matters. I don't claim to be an expert so I could be wrong here
@@BurstReview Yeah they're ridiculously priced. Cheapest I can find one is $579 rtgparts. I keep seeing them in parts kits at apex gun parts wish some firm would start cranking them out like they do the regular wide handguards get that price down! :-)
Good for you. I had to send mine back. To many FTE/FTF, so much I’ve lost count especially with 124gr Aguila. I’ve sent mine back. Hopefully it gets resolved because it’s crazy accurate and the mp5 is my favorite gun ever haha.
Mine jammed every time when I tried flat nosed ammo, in fact the only ammo mine runs without issues (always FTE’s) is Fiocchi 115gr FMJ. Mines a finicky bitch!
I've always preferred the more tactical looking rail hand guard over the smooth solid looking swept polymer hand guard on the original. On all tactical files and pistols I just think the slotted rail look is much more badass looking, not to mention obviously more functional. Like the difference between an M16 and an AR15. In my opinion, just the aesthetics of the AR15 hard guard is so much cooler (aka: badass) looking. It just has a more modern mechanical function look to which I'm always drawn.
I bought. I don't remember what I paid. But except for a spent shell getting caught in the trigger pack where the sear usually goes. Its been a lot of fun. Easy to carry around too.
Hey thanks for the video, I'm still on the fence about getting the Zenith Z5-P. This my be a less expensive option; so thank you for showing us this PCC.
I also like the look and reliability of the roller lock of the HK designed MP5 clones. I don’t like the fact that the PTR comes with a hefty price with such little offered compared to the MKE Z5 P. I think for just a $200 increase in MSRP for the Z5P you get a lot more for the money. For instance the Z5P comes with 3 mags, sling, cleaning kit, and optic mount with a NAVY lower.
So the banshee cheaper and as good or better, probably but if you already own an AR it's fun to have a different platform w manual of arms to play with.
It is really fun. The only real problem I’ve had so far with that is that after years with ARs, including a CMMG RDB, I find that under stress I tend to fall back to the AR manual of arms, reaching for a non-existent bolt release instead of the charging handle.
I had to send my 9ct and 9kt both back in first 5 rounds and 60 rounds respectively. They run perfect now but the flaws should of been caught at the factory. The 9cts reciver was not aligned properly either due to ptrs build quality or due to the sb brace pinching the reciver, i got both replaced works now know that the sb brace is not for the 9ct and they will tell you that if you ask sb tactical claims the ptr 9ct isnt a in spec reciver when you ask their technical support. The 9kt jammed constantly and dropped mags out when shooting, they completly rebuilt it and its fine now both got 1k each threw then after being returned. Over all buy it because its cheap but be ready to wait a month or 2 for them to fix it out the box once it comes back or if you get it running perfect from the factory form the start it will be gtg. Ptr really needs to invest in a quality control guy.
Been wanting one of these for work for years, just to costly. It’s a toss up though now. We’ll have to see what PSA brings to market with their new MP5 clone for cost and reliability, compared to PTR.
In your review you make it sound like it doesn’t have the correct rear sight drum, but the MP5 has always had the unmarked drum. All of the apertures have the same elevation, unlike the larger rifles in 5.56 and .308.
I think the mp5 is very accurate. And I hope psa releases a mp5 clone. That way you could probably get one under 1k even though they cost like 250 or 300 for manufacturers to make.
Not trying to nitpick, just an honest question: was that Osprey on upside down? I don't own an Osprey suppressor, but I thought a selling point of the design was that you could use regular pistol sights bc it is assymetrical and has a thicker/longer section on the "bottom", allowing you to orient the suppressor in a way that when mounted it has a "thinner" section above the muzzle, which lowers the top of the suppressor and doesn't occlude the pistol's sights. I'm only asking bc I was recently looking at buying an Osprey for my 1911 and didn't want to buy new sights (again) if I didnt have to. It seems the orientation wouldn't matter on the mp5 since the sights are so tall, but I was just looking for some information to further my knowledge on the Osprey
I own an Osprey 45 and yes you can orient it however you like. I also Own a 1911 with standard novak sights. Unfortunately it doesn't clear the suppressor entirely. They do clear it a little bit though. Some of my pistols do clear and some don't. I honestly just adjusted to aiming through the suppressor more than trying to clear the sights. If you shoot within a range that would be comfortable with a handgun you should be able to just aim through the suppressor and if you get a sub gun then your sights should pretty much always clear the suppressor anyways. I like the osprey 45, and the Rugged Obsidian 45 that own about the same. The annoying thing about the Osprey is you have to undo the clamp to change pistons, then when you thread it onto your gun you have to clamp it slightly again so it won't just spin in place, then when you have it fully threaded on you unclamp it again, rotate it to where it lines up flush with the sights, and THEN reclamp it so it stays in place. While normal round suppressors you just thread on and don't worry any clamps or hassle.....And yes he did have the Osprey on upside down. I assume it was just to get a better look aesthetically. I've seen a lot of people do it with Ospreys on Sub Guns.
Love mine. Note to general public. When local police officer shooting next to you asks you if you want to shoot his PTR...say NO! Had to have one..saved for a while, worth every penny.
What model Firefield Red dot is that on your PTR 9CT? Is it the Impulse with or without Laser? They are pretty cheap and I wonder if they are worth it. Thanks for the info. Also I was wondering about the small screw on Flashcan. What type is it and where can I find one?
I thought the vfg didn't count regardless & if over a certain length (evidently 26") you could run an actual VG. please do correct me if I'm wrong on this though.

I have the zenith z-5rs the absolute only issue I have with this gun is it's too DAMN FUN to shoot it probably took you longer to do the commentary review than it took you to blow through that 750 rounds. 🤣. I've probably put about the same amount of rounds through mine since I've owned it haven't had one hang up and I use federal ammo. I've had multiple issues with my S&W .40 and AR with Winchester ammo with failure to feed and failure to extract. Glad to know you only had one issue the whole time I don't think it was the guns fault I think it was the ammo.
I've heard that, but the PTR ran flawlessly even when I loaded Hornady critical defense, Federal Golden sabers and Browning's 147gr defensive rounds. I think the reasoning behind this thought is sound though; most older and military firearms weren't designed to use hollow point rounds.

I have a PTR91 and I love it. I think it needs a little sister so this is definitely on my list.
One of the best reviews I’ve seen. Thanks.
Best review video i seen thus far
I agree, now way would I spend close to $3k!
had to order a MPX last week to attempt and scratch my MP5 itch. Really hope it works.
Did it?
@@TacTony got me 90% of the way there, but have decided that it really needs a binary trigger to finish it out. Really fantastic gun, extremely easy to control, and effective.
I love it....& just got mine at Knob Creek range.....thank you, young man!
Glad you're enjoying it, I've shot the heck out of mine so far and am hooked on the 9mm roller-delayed fix
I ordered one a few weeks ago and put it on layaway. I'm almost done paying it off and very much looking forward to putting rounds through it.
Nice, I'm sure you'll love it. I know that feeling though, when I first got in to guns, I could only set aside like 30-50 bucks a month. So I would constantly eat instant noodles and drink nothing but tap water to scrounge up enough dough to buy cool stuff.
You gotta do what you gotta do and work hard to get it. I had the privilege of firing a real HK MP5 and I fell in love.
You'll love it i promise mine is awesome
@@chrisgrace1489 I picked it up a few days ago. I can't wait to go shoot it.
Awesome enjoy it often as possible
I like the hand guards, I think it's an awesome feature and if someone wants the traditional ones they can order them online for it
Absolutely love mine! A bit expensive, but I had to have it! Glad I watched this, I'm one of the people who didn't read the manual about a break in period, oops.
Fonzy Brookestone I read mine but didn't pay too much attention to it tons o fun to shoot
A missed opportunity, I feel.
economy of scale, jackass
I don't claim to be an expert so I could be wrong here
@@Robert-qm7yi ATF letter disagrees with you.
Just ordered one and cant wait to get my hands on it! Nice review thank you!
I like the classic look of the wide handguard too I like the one with the flashlight cutout more though :-)
Same, but holy cow does that thing cost a lot!
@@BurstReview Yeah they're ridiculously priced. Cheapest I can find one is $579 rtgparts. I keep seeing them in parts kits at apex gun parts wish some firm would start cranking them out like they do the regular wide handguards get that price down! :-)
Have 300 flawless rounds through my PTR-9CT. TOTALLY HAPPY!!! Put the Magpul stock on for a perfect fit and $800 savings over HK retractable.
This guy! ........KNOWS HOW TO DO GUN REVIEWS!
This review seemed very well put together
Great video! Definitely want one.
at that msrp I will still buy one.Thanx for the review.
Great review, Good work.
Good for you. I had to send mine back. To many FTE/FTF, so much I’ve lost count especially with 124gr Aguila. I’ve sent mine back. Hopefully it gets resolved because it’s crazy accurate and the mp5 is my favorite gun ever haha.
mp5s do not like flat nose rounds.
Michael X Haven’t used any.
Mine jammed every time when I tried flat nosed ammo, in fact the only ammo mine runs without issues (always FTE’s) is Fiocchi 115gr FMJ. Mines a finicky bitch!
I've also noticed the lighter trigger in ptrs compared to hk and century types.
I Love the PTR over my SP5k! There I said it!!! So much that I'm thinking of selling my SP5k and buying the PTRK
I bought. I don't remember what I paid. But except for a spent shell getting caught in the trigger pack where the sear usually goes. Its been a lot of fun. Easy to carry around too.
Awesome review! Just pure info.
Hey thanks for the video, I'm still on the fence about getting the Zenith Z5-P. This my be a less expensive option; so thank you for showing us this PCC.
Great review! Thanks much
I bought one and added the wide foregrip, it’s flawless
Does PTR warranty the gun when using a suppressor on it?
The diopter on my ptr91 doesn't turn (I can sight it with the tool but it doesn't just turn freely) internet please help
they need to put the second pin back. if zenith can do it so can they
I also like the look and reliability of the roller lock of the HK designed MP5 clones.
The only real problem I’ve had so far with that is that after years with ARs, including a CMMG RDB, I find that under stress I tend to fall back to the AR manual of arms, reaching for a non-existent bolt release instead of the charging handle.
cheaper than zenith, and without their hideous monstrosity of a lower. im sold!
I was wondering if I was the only one with that opinion. Good to know I'm not alone.
Are you talking about the SEF Lower, if so, what is it that you dont like about it? The Ergos, or the aesthetics?
What is that small flashcan (not the suppressor). That looks pretty cool. Was wondering where I can get one?
Been wanting one of these for work for years, just to costly.
It’s a toss up though now. We’ll have to see what PSA brings to market with their new MP5 clone for cost and reliability, compared to PTR.
In your review you make it sound like it doesn’t have the correct rear sight drum, but the MP5 has always had the unmarked drum. All of the apertures have the same elevation, unlike the larger rifles in 5.56 and .308.
Great video!🤙🏼
I think the mp5 is very accurate. And I hope psa releases a mp5 clone. That way you could probably get one under 1k even though they cost like 250 or 300 for manufacturers to make.
Great video and review.
At what degree is the included locking piece? Thanks
You can add a “vertical” fore-grip that is angled. That angle is your key to avoiding the legal issues with a grip on a pistol.
It's just over 26" with the brace so you can add any normal VFG without legal issues per the most current ATF guidance
just shhhhh.
Gonna snag one asap. My PTR91 needs a little sister.
H&K made G3K-DMR variants with elements of the MSG-90 that were very accurate for the German and British special forces.
Damn you now I want one. But I've already spent way too much money on guns this year.
What would be a very quiet supressor for mp5
What ear plugs are those?
I’m surprised it only had one malfunction. I saw multiple erratic ejection patterns
What is the barrel break in procedure?
Good video man
Which Firefield Model Red dot do you have on the PTR? Looks decent on that gun. Does it function pretty well for a Budget Red dot?
Do you still like the PTR 9CT? I am thinking of ordering one. Can't afford the new SP15
Can I conceal carry this bad boy?
I mean you can conceal anything
What target setup are using where you can reset with a chain?
👍....You didnt follow factory break-in procedure (like average Joe)....and probably voids warranty if said
These are GOAT firearms whether they are from HK OR PTR.
Mine works very well i love it
what is the diff from the 600 vs 601
Don't need a stamp for a VFG if it's over 26" OAL
Good point, thanks.
AjackLee4 I’ve been trying to see if this is true. I have a scorpion 9mm with a pdw brace
And when extended the gun is over 26 inches
@@HALE2daKINGbaby The scorpion Evo has its own rules for some things.
I thought the vfg didn't count regardless & if over a certain length (evidently 26") you could run an actual VG. please do correct me if I'm wrong on this though.
You're correct. If a pistol gets longer than 26" it then becomes a legally defined "firearm" and can have a VFG.
What’s better PTR or Zenith? Obviously Dakota is the best but also costs the most... Are all PTRs cut for a sear? What about the Zeniths?
The Golf Life, as far as my own research and heard PTRs are Sear pack ready including the bolt. Just drop in and go
Zeniths cant take auto trigger packs and to be brutally honest qualitywise they are all the same. With some dudds here and there but they are good to go whichever one you pick of ptr or zenith.
Great video!
Have you had any problems with the firearm after running it suppressed?, and would you buy one now after owning it for a year?
The gun definitely gets dirtier when suppressed, but no I haven't had any issues with it. And as far as would I still buy it... Yes. I feel like it's one of the best deals for shooters looking to get into an MP5-style gun. The only thing I wish was different, is I'd like if they included a wide polymer handguard, but those are fairly cheap and easy to get
@@BurstReview thanks I really appreciate your reply, I've been laboring over the decision for 2 months, you read people saying it brakes running it suppressed so I wanted to talk to somebody with first-hand knowledge. I'll let you know how it goes thank you very much.
Thanks 🙏
JUST BOUGHT A EXTAR EP9 $419 N LOVE IT
you not need to pay a tax for the stock?
I can't find HKs in my country, so shamefully one day i actually went to an airsoft store just to slap that sweet full-metal HK91. Yes I'm desperate and ill.
Can’t you get the HK sp5k for 2k?
I got main last year for $1,800
Comes with a nice case but doesn’t come with a brace
Still, I think for an extra $200-$400 it’s worth it to just get the real deal
The sp5k does not have a threaded / 3 lug barrel for a suppressor. The sp5k is not compatible with an auto sear. The sp5k does not have a paddle mag release. The sp5k cost $2200 to $2400 compared to the ct9 at $1700.
Will it accept the FA Binary trigger?
I have the zenith z-5rs the absolute only issue I have with this gun is it's too DAMN FUN to shoot it probably took you longer to do the commentary review than it took you to blow through that 750 rounds. 🤣. I've probably put about the same amount of rounds through mine since I've owned it haven't had one hang up and I use federal ammo. I've had multiple issues with my S&W .40 and AR with Winchester ammo with failure to feed and failure to extract. Glad to know you only had one issue the whole time I don't think it was the guns fault I think it was the ammo.
This platform doesn't do well with hollow points correct?
I've heard that, but the PTR ran flawlessly even when I loaded Hornady critical defense, Federal Golden sabers and Browning's 147gr defensive rounds.
I think the reasoning behind this thought is sound though; most older and military firearms weren't designed to use hollow point rounds.
Mine jams constantly when trying to run hp’s
