- Welcome to our 1978 Jaguar XJ6 Series 2 barn find. The Jag was stored in a garage not far from us, only a couple of miles away since 1999, 25 years ago, when it was taken off the road for maintenance by it’s previous owner.
In this episode we tackle the major rust repair to the rear suspension and jacking point area.
The challenge we have set ourselves in this Jaguar barn find series, is to revive the Jag and to get the car back on the road again.
So let’s crack on, We hope you enjoy the episode
Huge thank you for watching.

Like the two of you together. The fast forward section complete with multiple tea breaks was great.
New sills too and then lots of fisholine inside after completely finished and painted is a must. Been there done that 40 years ago.
Terrific work Mark . Your skills would eclipse many so called specialist's .Well done .
Great to see you hope your both well sorry not to have seen you lately please give us a we're still here just to let us know there's not a serious problem hope to see you soon
very nice job on that welding - looks strong as anything now!
Great bit of fabrication & welding stronger than factory
Love the fact your Dad is with you instead of sat in front of a TV set watching crap!
Well done with the car.
Well hello Gents!!!! Missed your content!
Great to see you back
Top job, methodical approach not a bodge job. Keeping classics alive
Great video today, thorough job done. Thanks.
Great to see you two back and looking well.🍻👍
I'm absolutely amazed at this. Brilliant job.
So glad to see you both on my screen working on one of your projects. The body work on the Jaguar will certainly keep you busy and provide us with some more content to watch as you get further stuck in. Keep up the good work.
Very bold, you guys never seem phased by unappealing repair jobs, well done.
Excellent work , I’m happy to see you guys back
Great to see the time and effort going into the structure of the old Jag. Alot.of times people just focus on the shiny bits and forget about whats underneath!! Good work.
Impressive work. You've done that before lol. Great channel 👍
Nice to see you back boys 👍🏼
Fantastic Video 👍👍Many people would have give up on The JAAAG but Not You and Your Dad 👍👍Great Work 🥳🥳

Great to see you both back. Missed watching your channel. Good bit of fabrication. Much stronger for the suspension mount as well. Looking forward to be see some more. Take care and stay safe.
Nice to see you gentlemen back I hope you’re okay.. wonderful content..
Great work. That was definitely a bodge job before hand glad you sorted it.
Great job, looks fantastic. I think you forgot the bumper stop. Love watching you guys. I'm restoring a series 3
That was the same colour of my XJC 4.2 manual with overdrive
My XJS looked like that. A year and a half later all sorted and MoT. Good luck.
Well done those good fellas, greetings from Spain.
Great to see how its done , awesome
That’s not how it’s done
good job looks like dad is doing ok great
Great job great see you both bk keep up great work look forward to nx video 👍👍
Nice work glad to see you back😊
Very neat and striong job! Well done!
Nice to see that your continually saving this old XJ6.
I can smell the grinding and welded metal here in France.
Good Work indeed.
Hi , your doing a grand job .I Iike the common sense mods they need doing all the time ! I recon your in need of big blocks of wood or timber towers ive made my self , a 4x4 x7 ft fence post chopped into 8 lengths cost me a £10 some threaded rod to bolt it together . be far safer to work on motors than any thing else . there is only one chance to get it right eh ! be safe ... Kevin Fullard
That was an interesting repair task young man!
Usually when sills are rusty then the box frame inside is also very rusty
the small sort of triangular sill-end closing-panel used to be available from Martin Robey etc for around £15 iirc. Can't believe the previous guy just fibre-glassed it in 🤦♂
Gott schütze uns vor Sturm und Wind & Autos die aus England sind 😉
Guts to save an old cat load
S of luck to you had all that with a 66 rover 3000 😊
A pity about the music crayoned over everything - good repair though.
Confucius he says you know when getting near end of job when less sweeping up of floor afterwards 😑
So nice to see you both out and working on the Jaguar. Dad looks great but your weather looks like crap.
I always love watch your work building and restoring cars. Thanks for sharing with us on your channel.
Cheers
Thanks 👍
Got to admire the ability and work ethic but I was puzzled by some of the decisions made. 28:45 why leave the rotten and holed end of the inner rocker poking out then weld the closing panels to it? Surely that section of inner rocker should have been replaced, not least for structural reasons. Even though you undersealed that projecting seam rot will start again there pretty quickly being the wettest spot on the car.
G’day and greetings from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 you and your Dad are doing a great job of the Jag my late Father had a series 1 and it was mint. It’s great that your father is there as well I think I would be around his age, what was the phumatic saw that you used ? I could do with one like that great job with the welding it looked terrific anyway good to see you kind regards John
Hi Thank you for your comment 👍
Here’s a link to something similar, it’s an air saw. Handy little tool for jobs like this.

the repair-panels for this area didn't include the large domed boss (for the radius arm) or the heavy plate on the top that the jack-point plate screws in to. I had to transfer the parts from my rusted originals to the new panels. Measured 10 times before welding them on lol
Always good to see you two back at it again. I think some of your viewers and commenters may be missing a point on the Jag. You clearly state that it is your goal to get the car back on the road, not to do an in-depth restoration like you have done with the Mini. It is obvious that the Jag is pretty much far gone when it comes to rust and would just not be viable to restore properly, consequently you will be making repairs rather than restoring. You always do a good job though, so I'm sure it will end up a lot better than when you got it.
nice repair but for all that was left of the sheet-steel between the two parts of the jack-point might have been better to cut it off, remove the screws, separate the 3 parts and transfer it on to your nice new bit of sheet-steel

👊
What a lashup, welding in rust not attending to the corrosion of the inner sill panel also the seat belt anchor point is weak. When I was panel panel beating in the 60s 70s and 80s all rusted panels were removed and I remade all to original spec to me this is bodgework. No doubt it will all be covered with a thick coating of under seal..
Great work and content, SACK the music.
How the hell did that pass an MOT?
That was a good video and a great repair! Any progress on the mini recently?
Okay
What happened to the mini you was doing didn't see the end of it
At 2:55 you will see outside of the garage. Nothing happened 😁
There called radius arms
I"d double up that 12 x 2 in the middle of the roof.
what thickness of sheet metal do you use for the body repair panels?
For this section I used 1.5mm, I use the 1.5mm for any of the floor sections or anything more structural but for body panels and repairs I use 0.8mm as usually there is more shaping to be done in these areas which can be done with the thinner material. Usually all car body panels are around 0.8mm.
Regards
Mark
That's a perfect example of why classic vehicles should not be MOT exempt. Previous repairs are shocking, welding, (if you can call it that ) is to a very poor standard. I really hope your getting it mot'd correctly and not just signing the disclaimer to say it's fit for the road.
Hats off to you, not easy welding on your back, bet the other side is exactly the same.
Well said.
Absolutely spot on 👍
Ee Man that's rotten!!
🇬🇸Need subtitles - funny English
Well a least you have Joe Biden there helping ya 😂
glad that's not my car you're working on.... i think you have the skills but could have done a better job.
