There is a set of endings to do with recruiting one or two characters, but not all three, and either killing or ignoring the ones left over, to get those characters' individual flavor texts at the end of the game. Doesn't matter if you're in ultimate mode either.
Gimpler Da Happenin I'm doing some of those now. I just wanted to post the main ones that involved everyone. I wish we could play as Dark Emporer Zangetsu, though.☺
I suppose the last ending is the best ending but it's also the hardest to get. Since you have to play with just Zangatsu and not kill the other characters for their powers.
When they appear, you have the choice to talk to them (recruit), walk past them to the right (spare), or attack them until they die (kill them). :) There are many spare/kill/recruit combinations for endings with little lines of dialogue changes depending on who you have. This is such a great game!
I recruited all allies and searched everywhere. You need their abilities to get all power ups.👍. Check out my aria of sorrow mods with these characters too!
I am Me sigh... Ok... Alfred is the shopkeeper and Mina (he can clone himself so it will work), Gebel is Graham, Miriam is Julius/Arikado. LET'S DO IT!

THAT would be soooo cool!!! He has to fight (as Bosses) and kill all his allies, and then take their souls.

How do you 'kill' or 'spare' (not recruit) your allies? When I played through, they joined automatically

Kusa Jaguar i won't spoil anything but killing allies can make the playthrough easier if you know what you're doing. You'll see what I mean. ☺
