I tell you a story, an impossible but true story: When I was young I played FF7 and was blown away, like most people. So of course I played 8 too, heard the song, loved it and always remembered it. Anyway life went on, got a job, but at some point at the lowest point of my life I decided I need to do something else. Years have passed, it is 2009 and I was going on a trip to find myself. Went backpacking for half a year in South Wast Asia and China. At the end end my trip in China I meet a girl, a Chinese girl in my hostel room and she was listening to this song on her phone. So I went like "Yo, isn't that Eyes on me from Final Fantasy 8?" and she's like, no it's from Faye Wong, she is a Chinese singer and I'm like "No I meant from the video game" and she just starred at me with blank eyes, like wtf is he talking about. So I explained, it's a japanese video game and I always thought the singer is Japanese as well. She still confused what kind of weirdo I am, so I asked her out with the people I meet in the hostel together tonight. She said, well I will think about it... She never came... But next afternoon after waking up hangover I found a note beside my pillow: "I'm so sorry I didn't came but thank you for inviting me, here my phone and email. Had to leave early in the morning". She was just polite, which I didn't know. I did contact her, even tough she didn't expect me to as it was just meant as a apology for being unpolite in her opinion. End of story? No... We stayed in contact even after I've been back home. But I still wasn't finished. So I asked her to help me find a school in which I could study Chinese for a year, which she really did... Forward to 2019, the rest is history and we are married for 6 years and right now we are moving from China to my country. All because someone at Squaresoft 20 years ago decided to include a Chinese song in a Japanese video game. We are also going to have children soon. So, a life will be created only because of that...
I was 8 when my brother came home with FFVIII. I would watch him play for hours. I instantly fell in love with this song hearing it for the first time. I'm 31 now and I just got married this past weekend. I walked down the aisle to this song. I still get teary eyed thinking about it. Music can move you so deeply.

I was 11 years old when I first played this game from a rental shop. Our family was very poor and we cannot afford a PS1 console because we can't even afford a good meal. My mom had literally pulled me by the ear to drag me outside of the rental shop just to stop playing. This song will always have a special place in my heart because it reminds me of the challenges that I had as a kid. It reminds me that I had the best parents. It reminds me of the dream that I am living in right now. I am not super rich but I am very proud that I live a comfortable life. It just saddens me that I no longer have my parents to see it. I am turning 37 now, diagnosed with adhd as a kid, now working as a senior consultant in an IT company. Like this comment if you stumble upon it. 😔 ❤
Takes me back a very long time..pretty much 20 years now. I think it's time to break out the game again, can't wait to get the Ragnarok again. I wonder if my leg will still cramp up ?
Most painful song in my life. This is the song I am playing when I was informed that my first love girlfriend died because of a health condition. The song played while my tears were falling. It's been 20 years since then. But when I hear this song, still feels like yesterday.
Its painful, but over time...im sure this song meant for us to be strong at hard times. A reminder of beauty that still lingers in this life. Believe it
How ironic. Because in the game, the singer of this song wrote this song for a man she loved. She confessed her feelings to him through this song, the night before he got sent off to the front lines for war, in which the man reciprocated her feelings because their feelings were mutual. Sadly, they didn't end up together because he never returned from the war. He survived his mission but was too gravely injured and fell into the sea, drifted away to some remote village or town. By the time he recovered, he was assumed to be Killed And Missing In Action. By then, she married another man.
Feels good to know that so many people have such a strong emotional connection and memories attached to this sond and period of time. Makes me feel like we’re part of something 🥹

I haven't heard this song in a long time, about a dozen years ago. My mom gifted my young brother with a computer and I listened to him play this song over and over again on it. At that time he was about 16 years old, a cheerful teenager who was very happy living life. Now things are different... The days of my mother are gone... All that's left are sweet and sad memories at the same time when I accidentally found this song... I thought of my mom and my young brother... I miss you guys so much...🥺😢😢
Rinoa and Squall is nice, Yuna and Tidus is nice, Garnet and Zidane is nice...But, for what little we were shown, Raine and Laguna was so beautiful and heartbreaking, they did such a good job at conveying that feeling of a relationship getting developed and nurtured...And they just showed us what? A small dream sequence at the beginning of Disc 2 and another bit at the ending via Laguna´s remembrance?
When that flute kicks it, it always summons a tear. Beautiful music in games that mirror the story and gameplay is extremely rare now a days. Final fantasy 7 through 9 had the best soundtracks, as I grow older I realized it's the soundtracks of actual life. I started when I was 12 with FF, I'm reaching 33, and damn every track has hit me in the feels as I get older every year. This song, I was in love but got my heart broken, we got divorced. Listening to this song, it's like I wish it was a dream but one I didn't want to wake up from, but she gave me a rude awakening.
i dedicated this song to my boyfriend the first time when i meet him... Right now, we have 1 year and 2 months together... Hoping to be an entirely life together ♥
Man.,...This has me missing my mom so bad. This game, along with FFVIII, were games that we really bonded over in my childhood. I never felt more loved, cared for, and seen by my mom than those years spent playing this game beginning to end over and over. I miss you old bird, you left too soon and words can never truly express that. I know that you have your eyes on me from wherever you may be. Rest easy old gal
honestly, i never played the game yet, but when i hear this song, i feel the memories, not my memories, but all the memories from peoples who played this game. The joy, fun sadness, everything
VII, VIII, IX, and X made me a fan of this series. Yeah I may have started with the 3D Remake of IV, but I played VII-X in early 7th grade. God knows how long I spent on them, and even now with their ports and remasters I’ve rebought them. Thank you Square for making my favorite video game series.
Heck I have all my notes that I made while playing the games, and I still use them. I even own the soundtracks now on Apple Music and Spotify. This series means so much to me, and has gotten me through good times and hard times.
It's been over 10 years since the first time I heard this song. I still remember my friends kept a save file at Ragnarok just to listen to this song over and over. Oh, memories...
Whenever sang my songs On the stage, on my own Whenever said my words Wishing they would be heard I saw you smiling at me Was it real or just my fantasy You'd always be there in the corner Of this tiny in little bar My last night here for you Same old songs, just once more My last night tear with you? Maybe yes, maybe no I kind of liked it to your way How you shyly placed your eyes on me Oh, did you ever know? That I had mine on you Darling, so there you are With that look on your face As if you're never hurt As if you're never down Shall I be the one for you Who pinches you softly but sure If frown is shown then I will know that you are no dreamer So let me come to you Close as I wanted to be Close enough for me To feel your heart beating fast And stay there as I whisper How I loved your peaceful eyes on me Did you ever know That I had mine on you Darling, so share with me Your love if you have enough your tears if you're holding back Or pain if that's what it is How can I let you know I'm more than the dress and the voice Just reach me out then You will know that you're not dreaming Darling, so there you are With that look on your face As if you're never hurt As if you're never down Shall I be the one for you Who pinches you softly but sure If frown is shown then I will know that you are no dreamer
It's "I never sang my songs, on this stage, on my own!" as the first sentence of the song, I don't think 'whenever' makes sense, even if she sung it wrong. It's a pretty song, but anyways...
awesome indeed!! and the story is great, full of cliche but in a good way.. a witch hunter having affair with a witch and turns out that their parents are actually ex-lovers.. cliche, but, wow..!!
This song and music video has always been played in a cable tv chatroom in the Philippines in the early 2000's. This song is truly popular back in the day especially in the night until the next morning. They played it at least 20 or 25 times. The sequence of playtime is this song then another song then another song and this song again. I remember kids back in the days of Friendster and MySpace, they use the pictures of Squall and Rinoa as their profile picture.
I recently played final fantasy 8 and this song is my favorite from series. It’s very soothing and relaxing. The voice is so beautiful. And it just touches my soul every time i hear it. I’m glad I played 8 even though what stopped me from playing it sooner were people who were saying it was a bad game. But they were wrong and it’s one of my favorite games. I hope one day I too will find a Rinoa who can give me happiness
Those last seconds of this song, starting at 5:06 with Rinoa smiling at Squall, pointing up and Squall smiling back and the embracing and kissing her until the end have haunted me since the late 90's and will continue to do so forevermore. Beautifully melancholic, nostalgically dolorous and majestically romantic and magical... Nod in your direction SQUARESOFT and *_FINAL FANTASY VIII..._* Thank you for the memories...
I just finished the game 20 years later and the feeling still the same. FF8 is a masterpiece and makes me emotional because of the story and soundtrack =)
I'm playing the Remastered now and man it's still phenomenal as it was 13 years ago when I first played it. Turning on this song while running around in Balamb Garden - one of the best moments in video games for me.

I love this song and the story,it bring me back to 2000 when the first time i heard this song,at the age full of fantasy. That was really a period of time worth remembering.
2008 my wedding songs.. year 2000 i play this games.. I fell in love.. With this games.. One of the best game i ever play.. For me best ff game.. Number one.. And ffx is number two, Number three is FF7 Original..
Underestimated? Underrated? You sure come at the wrong timing to say that. FF never been underrated when it was at its era. But if you talk about 2022-2023 you probably just found out about FF, because they are way too many games out there including popular mobile phone games.
When my son was born a year ago, I was playing FF8 remastered on the Switch at the hospital while we were waiting for things to get going. I started humming him this song when he was crying to get him to sleep. Now, 14 months later, when he was too upset for his nap, it still works. 😊
Here in 2020. My dad used to play this downloaded music video for me on windows 98 and I loved it then, still love it now. I’m now 24. This will be played at my wedding ❤️
***** Yes. That is exactly the reason why I love Final Fantasy games. You really do feel for those characters and every time I finish those games -even after many replays- I feel so empty inside, when the story ends.
***** Oh, I did not mean like it was a bad thing. To me it means that game/book or sometimes even a movie was great enough to give me true feelings. That is the reason why I love gaming (and reading). If it didn't make me feel that way I would have never became a gamer and would have never started studying programming and development. My life is full on it's own, but games and books add something even more to it. Well, the great ones certainly do.
I was playing this song when I was in high school and it became a favorite of my aunt, she asked for the lyrics. So nostalgic. Brings back the love and pain when I was still a teenager lol
As a teen back in 1999, I know that this song, as corny and as cheesy as it is, will induce some major nostalgia after a few years down. And it sure damn did. And I love it.
All these years on, I have yet to play a game as incredible and beautiful as this. I mean yeah I've played some really really great games but none that I feel so sentimental and passionate about as this. Loved it back then and love it now.
Count Vanderhosen a lot of people sucked at it...and struggled with the junctioning system. overall it was fantastic, although im a little bias since it was my first ff
Nostalgic! I was 10 yr old when I'm watching my brother playing this game, now im 35, He's good at the card game. My favorite character there is Zell 😊
This game is always there for me when I’m depressed, I finished this game two years ago when I was still in high school and still fantastic to this day
They need to remaster ff7 and ff8 completely and add surprises like map expansions and off missions and extra games, the generation that loved these games deserve that, these two games never get old but especially ff8 for me its more realistic taste, and i don't think voices will hurt as long as they remaster dramatic cgi cinematics genuinely. They have also released hd versions on steam so a new generation can fall in love with the originals! ;-)
I agree with you friends. I'm one who played all the final fantasies but only 4 of them that really moved me. Final fantasy 6, 7, 8 and 9. The story and music on these 4 series are the best ever. I still listen to their music and I hope they would be remastered. Because I'm sick with these new bull shit final fantasy games that lack so much things.
square enix has said they have purposely just killed time with the newer games too make sure theres a market of support so they can afford remastering the classics, us true fans know the fans are ready but its just not happening?? where would they listen and what site do we steer our ship at at!! lol
Truly a wonderful song, this song is so nostalgic. Somehow making me cry or what, time really does flies. I remember when I first played final fantasy when I was young. Well, now I'm one year away turning 18
One of the greatest love songs of all time from one of the greatest love stories in gaming history. I can't wait to see these scenes and hear these songs remastered.
This video game is very treasured to me. I'm replaying it on ps4. The most wonderfully nostalgic memories. An absolute masterpiece. A real treat to replay. I can relate to the character of squall very much. Rinoa was beautiful.
Ive never played ff8 but this song is really special to me. I remember back around 2001 or 2002, me and my big brother would stay up late at night waiting for this song to air on FUSE. Also the ffx theme and melodies of life from ffIX. sometimes im falling asleep on the couch and my brother would wake me up when this song is on. Good times.
2019, still listening. No matter what, this FF is my most favourite, then X, VII and XII. Love the story lies in this game. Sadness, Hopes, Solitude, and so on...
This track was in my childhood memory, I've forgotten it for a long time. And I finally found it just now. It took more than 10 years... one day at 4:00 AM, 2019.
my dad showed me this video when i was around 10 years old. i’m 27 now and each time i listened to this song i hold my breath because i fear if i dare to breathe or blink i will miss some beautiful moment or note of this song
My 1st final fantasy. will always be on top of my list in all FF series ive played. whenever i listening to this song , it suddenly reminded me back to my younger days. full of nostalgia.
I'm leaving this comment here so after a month or a year when someone likes it, i get reminded of this song. ❤

I want to hear this song in my final moment in this world. To relive every beautiful memory I had in my life.
FFVIII will always hold a special place in my heart. The soundtrack was so emotional and stood out. Despite the flaws, FFVIII really is a masterpiece
I totally agree so so beautiful game
i dedicated this song to my boyfriend the first time when i meet him...
Listen during 2020 Pandemic.
Really a tough year for everybody,
must be strong & we can overcome it.
2021 and still listening to this song. Truly a song that transcend time.
honestly, i never played the game yet, but when i hear this song, i feel the memories, not my memories, but all the memories from peoples who played this game.
Yup did that too. Dem feelz
Oh memories ...😞
Whenever sang my songs
On the stage, on my own
Whenever said my words
Wishing they would be heard
I saw you smiling at me
Was it real or just my fantasy
You'd always be there in the corner
Of this tiny in little bar
My last night here for you
Same old songs, just once more
My last night tear with you?
Maybe yes, maybe no
I kind of liked it to your way
How you shyly placed your eyes on me
Oh, did you ever know?
That I had mine on you
Darling, so there you are
With that look on your face
As if you're never hurt
As if you're never down
Shall I be the one for you
Who pinches you softly but sure
If frown is shown then
I will know that you are no dreamer
So let me come to you
Close as I wanted to be
Close enough for me
To feel your heart beating fast
And stay there as I whisper
How I loved your peaceful eyes on me
Did you ever know
That I had mine on you
Darling, so share with me
Your love if you have enough
your tears if you're holding back
Or pain if that's what it is
How can I let you know
I'm more than the dress and the voice
Just reach me out then
You will know that you're not dreaming
Darling, so there you are
With that look on your face
As if you're never hurt
As if you're never down
Shall I be the one for you
Who pinches you softly but sure
If frown is shown then
I will know that you are no dreamer
It's "I never sang my songs, on this stage, on my own!" as the first sentence of the song, I don't think 'whenever' makes sense, even if she sung it wrong. It's a pretty song, but anyways...
I remembered..this was one of hell of game...through the many series..this one is the one I feel really related...
agung nugroho yoi bro.. the first franchise for me...
yeah....the space ship scene is really something dont you think?
awesome indeed!! and the story is great, full of cliche but in a good way.. a witch hunter having affair with a witch and turns out that their parents are actually ex-lovers.. cliche, but, wow..!!
I played this game because it was introduce to me by an ex-gf and from here on I fell inlove with the whole RPG genre.
@@whitelotus5538 I never cared for any FF.game series or RPG. This was the first game I happened to try and somehow it was my favorite.
33 years old
Finished this thing 3 times
The reason why I main gunbreaker in FFXIV
Thank you SE and Yoshi-P 🙌🏼
Played this on PC and after 20 years this song still stuck inside your head. Jesus
Ito yung Larong hinding hindi mo pagsasawaan! hays kakamiss ang kabataan. whos with me March 17, 2021
Indeed. Never played the game but only known this song because of those programs. It always had my attention whenever this song plays
Someday I want to dance to this song with that special someone that's yet to come
I tried. And was denied.
My wife-to-be hates dancing, sadly. Sniff
I wish you luck.
Thanks m8 :) and maybe she hates dancing because she doesn't?you could try signing both of you in vals classes?it's a really romantic dance :)
Guille2033
I tried that too lol
The woman simply doesn't get I really just want to embrace her softly while we dance having a very high quality time.
Make sure you don't say too many "whatever" to that special someone.:)
And you'll call him "daddy".
Has been 10 years and I'm still listening in the office today =D
Such wonderful song yet perfect FF game ever.
+Bryan Chong So agree with you! I am listening to it now
still keeps this song inside my phone and pc...
this is some of childhood memory that paints and made what i am today... beautiful
FFVIII is a masterpiece ❤ One of my favorite games of all time
I just finished the game 20 years later and the feeling still the same. FF8 is a masterpiece and makes me emotional because of the story and soundtrack =)
I'm playing the Remastered now and man it's still phenomenal as it was 13 years ago when I first played it. Turning on this song while running around in Balamb Garden - one of the best moments in video games for me.
Yo tambien lo jugue por primera vez a esa edad! Y hoy lo acabo de terminar de nuevo con la remaster, que maravillosa experiencia
@@carrionkny5407 what the fuck?
2022 and still listening to this song. My 2 years old daughter loves this song so much, she'll only fall asleep listening while singing parts of this song
I played this game on 2004. Now I'm 36 and still goosegump when I hear this song ....😢
this games represent the best years of my teenage years ... FINAL FANTASY STILL THE BEST GAMES I EVER PLAYED
Agree..even i am 38 yrs old now...i still fall in love with series 7,8,9
I love this song and the story,it bring me back to 2000 when the first time i heard this song,at the age full of fantasy. That was really a period of time worth remembering.
Nobody can beat the emotions in FF8 AND FF7
FFX did pretty well though!
Have you played FFXV yet? I think that beat both FF8 and FF7 in the emotions department.
FF8 was corny AF but not emotional
I said corny because I didn't want to use cringey.
Your forgetting about IX
2008 my wedding songs.. year 2000 i play this games.. I fell in love.. With this games.. One of the best game i ever play.. For me best ff game.. Number one.. And ffx is number two, Number three is FF7 Original..
2022 this still makes me cry. And transport me to a time when I was younger and blindly believe in love. Thanks FFVIII. Highly underestimated game 🎮
Underestimated? Underrated? You sure come at the wrong timing to say that. FF never been underrated when it was at its era. But if you talk about 2022-2023 you probably just found out about FF, because they are way too many games out there including popular mobile phone games.
This song has hit all of us for those who have heard it. This is beautiful.
When my son was born a year ago, I was playing FF8 remastered on the Switch at the hospital while we were waiting for things to get going. I started humming him this song when he was crying to get him to sleep. Now, 14 months later, when he was too upset for his nap, it still works. 😊
Beautiful...
My first Final Fantasy and will always be my favorite PS1 Final Fantasy.
Finalfantasy + chilshood = epic generation
6~10 generation
Here in 2020. My dad used to play this downloaded music video for me on windows 98 and I loved it then, still love it now. I’m now 24. This will be played at my wedding ❤️
what a good dad
I pyed it in mine in 2000, and my wofe wedding march was Waltz for the moon when she entered the aisle with her dad.
i dont know why but each time i listen tto this song. i kinda wanna cry.. :/
Yup, same here. I actually have.
Every damn time!!!
Well, the great ones certainly do.
neoDarkSquall your stupid opinion will be considered, thank you for answer jerk :))
I was playing this song when I was in high school and it became a favorite of my aunt, she asked for the lyrics. So nostalgic. Brings back the love and pain when I was still a teenager lol
My song when I want to feel nostalgic and happy . I just light my blunt and let this play I go into such a peaceful bliss 😊
Loved it back then and love it now.
right? A lot of people didnt like ff8 but it's still my no1. will always have a special place in my gaming heart. that and metal gear solid.
This game is always there for me when I’m depressed, I finished this game two years ago when I was still in high school and still fantastic to this day
I was born in the year that this game became famous. I miss it a lot. Now, I'm aunt of grandchildren. Thank you for sharing. Watch when. 17/04/2020
They have also released hd versions on steam so a new generation can fall in love with the originals! ;-)
***** it think most of the haters on this game hate it because Squalls ridiculously handsome and there wernt that many girl gamers at the time :P
Yea i thought that too but i think squall and rinoa had more in common and similar incidents that bought them closer..
I agree with you friends. I'm one who played all the final fantasies but only 4 of them that really moved me. Final fantasy 6, 7, 8 and 9.
The story and music on these 4 series are the best ever. I still listen to their music and I hope they would be remastered. Because I'm sick with these new bull shit final fantasy games that lack so much things.
square enix has said they have purposely just killed time with the newer games too make sure theres a market of support so they can afford remastering the classics, us true fans know the fans are ready but its just not happening?? where would they listen and what site do we steer our ship at at!! lol
agreed, far as i know, ff 7 was unfinished when it was released :P
I was a teen in high school when I enjoyed this masterpiece... Well, I still cry to this at 41, and proudly not ashamed of that
Truly a wonderful song, this song is so nostalgic. Somehow making me cry or what, time really does flies. I remember when I first played final fantasy when I was young. Well, now I'm one year away turning 18
FF8 has always been my favourite and this song stayed with me .
One of the greatest love songs of all time from one of the greatest love stories in gaming history. I can't wait to see these scenes and hear these songs remastered.
Whenever I listen to this, it reminds me of Monty Oum.
Rest in peace Monty. You were an inspiration.
Listening to this before another days drudgery. This song really means something to me. I remember 1999 very well.
This video game is very treasured to me. I'm replaying it on ps4. The most wonderfully nostalgic memories. An absolute masterpiece. A real treat to replay. I can relate to the character of squall very much. Rinoa was beautiful.
ever had such a beautiful song make you smile and cry at the same time? Great song and an incredible voice.
2021 anyone? This song is bringing me back to good old times!! Time goes by so quickly!! :(
For some reason this song keeps playing in my head today. Wish someone would sing this song to me. Happy anniversary.
Good times.
Squall and Rinoa are always a perfect couple that I've ever played and met. I will come back here to listen this song every year.
Its been 15 years since I heard this song. Still gives me goosebumps how wonderful this song is. I sometimes sing this to my wife.
This is the Best among all FF series, in the past, til now & forever
I remember playing this game back in 2007,when i was in junior highschool...years later, still one the best game and best soundtrack for me: :")
November 20th 2016...almost 11 years and I still loving Final Fantasy
2019, still listening. No matter what, this FF is my most favourite, then X, VII and XII. Love the story lies in this game. Sadness, Hopes, Solitude, and so on...
This track was in my childhood memory, I've forgotten it for a long time. And I finally found it just now. It took more than 10 years... one day at 4:00 AM, 2019.
my dad showed me this video when i was around 10 years old. i’m 27 now and each time i listened to this song i hold my breath because i fear if i dare to breathe or blink i will miss some beautiful moment or note of this song
Man the old days are the golden days..
I gotta say this is my all time favorite video game. The story, the imperfections, the complexity and the characters.
I look forward to witnessing FFVIII Remake someday in the future.
My 1st final fantasy. will always be on top of my list in all FF series ive played. whenever i listening to this song , it suddenly reminded me back to my younger days. full of nostalgia.
You guys don't even know, how much this game means to me.
