It's pretty sad when you think about Miki's story. She regretted spending her life in the music industry and said she wasted it. I feel like that was reflected in this song. The lyrics are sad, and it even has a sad sound to it, but she still sang with a smile.
Crazy how 30-40 years later she would be an international hit sensation. Everyone knows this track and how beautiful her voice is. If you look people are trying to find out more about her but unfortunately there isn’t much info. There was even something about how she regretted this career path after she was diagnosed with cancer. She said something along the lines that there was many things she wanted to do and see but she was just so fixated in making her music perfect.
Yeah, if she was still alive I would be the happiest person because she would finally see that her song was perfect, she shouldn't have any regrets, cause she made a song that will still be in people's heart for a really long time.
@@hauani8710 This is just so painful to read. but yes we all do wish that she saw how much her music touched our lives and that forever she'll live through her works. That in itself is perfection.
By any chance you have a source saying she regretted this path. All I found that this song was a huge hit ( including other songs by her) In 2000 she made a phone call to her record company that she can’t play music anymore due to illness which was apparently her communication than everything went dark. Couple of years later they found out she died from uterine cervix cancer. That’s what I found. Not much is known about her or what said during the last couple years of her life battling cancer. Edit: I'm actually curious for anyone who read this comment.
@@kazutora1647 You do realize she died regretting doing singing as her carrer, you win in life be believing you made right choice, Miki Matsubara died regreting her choice, so don't talk about her winning in her life. "don't let others define you, you define yourself" I can't imagine the pain of the person who knows he will die at young age and regrets his life time work, that's just tragic
worst thing about art is that sometimes creators will never know what perfection they created, we always learn just how much something meant after we lost them.
so nice to see many people who speak different launguages still like the same songs dispite the launguage barrier. This just shows how good of a singer she is.

Miki Matsubara's "Stay with Me" is a song about heartbreak and loneliness. It tells the story of a woman whose husband has left her, leaving her feeling sad and alone. The song was released in 1979, when Miki Matsubara was just 20 years old. It became a huge hit in Japan and helped to launch her career. However, Miki Matsubara later came to regret her success. She wished she had spent more time with her family and loved ones instead of touring and performing. Miki Matsubara died of cancer in 2004, at the age of 45. She never saw the resurgence of interest in her music that occurred in the 2010s. But I know that she knows that this song made millions of people both happy and sad. When you're happy, you enjoy it, when you're sad, you feel it resonate with you
@jamesschwab1590 Miki Matsubara's "Stay With Me" song was released on November 5th 1979. Yes, "Stay With Me" is heavily influenced by Western musical styles. These elements are characteristic of city pop, a Japanese music genre that blends Western pop, funk, and disco with Japanese sensibilities. If you don't fully believe me, you can search it on Google. That is where I got the info from.
I never felt so attached to a song and it's artist like this one. It's just sad that I discovered it way past when it was first release and Miki Matsubara was still with us (tho I was born in 1999 but you get the point) , but still I'm happy that I stumbled upon this masterpiece. Wherever you are Miss Miki Matsubara I hope you are happy considering that your song is being discovered years after its release. Thank you for this timeless gem!

@@Suckadoodle9996 That's sort of true. The real story is, she regretted her musical career as she was dying in her early 40s, because it took up so much of her life. I think, that she even made music at all, means she had some love for music. But, making it a career was something she regretted, especially because she turned out to have so little time on Earth in the end.

Just learned that she passed in 2004..it makes me think about many things like life, death,..and the universe we all live in. She is still so beautiful and refreshing in that vid. I think maybe there is another universe somewherelse she is still singing that beautiful song.
oh hell yeah man she may be gone but her memory remains its up to the ones left behind to keep her passion alive as long who knows maybe some kid is watching this right now and gets inspired by what she did and come up with something like this again. just because they aren't amongst us anymore doesn't mean that what they left behind cant inspire someone else to follow and do their own singing. her memory will be forever in art
Radically my ass🤣 this is actually proof it hasn't radically changed, because she would still be considered beautiful now... Just because a lot of women get surgery to look a certain way it doesn't mean they changed what every single person on this earth finds attractive.
people who are true of heart when they create a work of art, they know that they are releasing it unto the world, and it no longer belongs to them. its like a wonderful girft that she left us, it was meant for us to enjoy it, and that is what we can do!
When you look up what is the most City pop in City pop... this song takes the cake. Its well deserved and it needs to be spread so others can hear this amazing track. Nothing eases a long drive home better than this.
Primera vez que la escucho llevo reproduciéndola como unas 8 veces y no me cansa, desconozco la historia de Miki Matsubara pero hoy ha sido una gran revelación. Gracias por haber compartido esto.
We are still here with her in our hearts and minds. I heard this song decades ago when I was very small, obviously I didn’t know at the time what she was singing about, but the melody always touched my soul. Edit: I think I know now why I am so hammered with this song. Working as much as I do deep down, I wish I can spend more time with my parents, my sister and the rest of my family. However, in the moment I do enjoy what I do a lot and I feel if I got the news that she did my life would turn on a dime and I might actually do what she did which was to spend her final moments with the ones that she loved all while having a sense of regret that you didn’t do it sooner.

By far the best song I've ever heard even if it has foreign language, truly amazing. From the melody, song writing, her confidence in singing its truly amazing. She is a 1 in a trillion singer. It's so sad that she passed in 2004, however her life still lives on in her songs. this song is the most evident of that.

@@nobarakugisaki_._ Idk alot about her life but here's what I know: She was born in 1954, and her dad was a board member of a local hospital and her mother was also a singer of a jazz/comedy group called Crazy Cats. She started playing piano at the age of 3 and had been playing with different bands during her school years. During her whole career, she released 8 singles and 12 albums. And outside Japan, she's well known as Anime singer/songwriter. She also worked with lots of other artists like Hitomi Mieno, Motown Jazz Fusion group called Dr. Strut. Although she was very successful in her career, she regretted it, saying that she could've done more with her time, like work on personal life, hobbies, family and friends etc. She was diagnosed with late stage cancer in 2001, and tragically lost her battle in 2004. She was only 44 years old.

Miki died in 2004, almost exactly 20 years ago, but in recent years, we can't deny that she has "returned from the dead." In the past three years, this song alone has received so much popularity that it has surpassed even the views of active performers in terms of interest. I believe this trend will continue; decades will go by, yet this song will keep reappearing, increasingly often on the international stage. Miki doesn’t know that her song has inspired people to start learning Japanese, to visit Japan, or even to move there. It has changed lives, even decades after its release! I first heard it in 2024, and it was the first song that could truly reach my emotions, one that moved me so much that, even though I am almost 30 years old, all I could do was cry. I think we should take Miki's words to heart, words she said before her passing: to live our lives to the fullest! So if you ever feel that you need strength to move forward, think of Miki, who will always be there behind you, breathing life back into you when you can no longer see a way out. The past no longer matters, only what is now and what lies ahead-if you allow it!

It's pretty sad when you think about Miki's story. She regretted spending her life in the music industry and said she wasted it. I feel like that was reflected in this song. The lyrics are sad, and it even has a sad sound to it, but she still sang with a smile.
what is the story?
not exactly, i hear she regret that she didnt spend more time with her loved ones not that she hated doing music
Really? Plz told me more bout her..

It’s very touching.
RIP legend
@@hauani8710 This is just so painful to read. but yes we all do wish that she saw how much her music touched our lives and that forever she'll live through her works. That in itself is perfection.
@@hauani8710 bruh i was trying so hard to hold back my tears but your comment just blew me off 😭
By any chance you have a source saying she regretted this path. All I found that this song was a huge hit ( including other songs by her)
In 2000 she made a phone call to her record company that she can’t play music anymore due to illness which was apparently her communication than everything went dark. Couple of years later they found out she died from uterine cervix cancer. That’s what I found. Not much is known about her or what said during the last couple years of her life battling cancer.
Edit: I'm actually curious for anyone who read this comment.

When you're happy, you enjoy it, when you're sad, you feel it resonate with you
Props to you for crafting such a respectful comment
Perfectly said.
1979 was a very long time ago, you realize that, right? Especially considering that Japan has often rejected Western-style genres.

@@nobarakugisaki_._ Idk alot about her life but here's what I know:
She was born in 1954, and her dad was a board member of a local hospital and her mother was also a singer of a jazz/comedy group called Crazy Cats.

@@rolandorosos6674 yea..
She didn't "return from the dead". She stayed alive in most of us.
@manoman0 ❤️
worst thing is i bet she lived ....aside the full blown stress of being a public person..... a way more healty life than us :|

Even she regretted her choice of singing career, even she lost her battle. But she have won our hearts, we are proud of her even if she was not of herself. RIP legend
she didn't regret her career, that's misinformation. she loved her music, she just wish she spent more time on other things and not just music.
Please stay with me Miki chan. Please don't go away 🥺Thank you for leaving us a great hit. I know you weren't known all over the world at that time but today the whole world knows you and listens to you. R.I.P Miki Matsubara
