    2 ideas, first if your posts pull in and make the tape sag use twins and a tent let to pull the top of the post straight. For their get loads of paving slabs for free online. Then use carpet or stones as a base and page the top. It won't be perfect but it will help. That's what I did

      Oh that's a super idea and yes I definitely need to sure up that corner post! I might just knock a wooden one in there. Thank you so much for your comment @hannahtuck3052 and thank you for watching! ❤🐴💕

    Its that time of year again, we have clay soil and now the rain has started the mud has appeared, we got waste rubble pretty cheap and then topped it up with type one, you may have to put up with it this year unfortunately but try and and get some drainage in next year if the budget allows. Ive built a sand pit this year for the really wet days , im just putting them in there to save my paddocks, thats me skint now!! Never ends does it

      A sand pit? Oh now that sounds amazing @karenmackinnon7385 ! I'm just so sick of rain and mud this year and its just going to get worse and worse now isn't it! Thing is it makes me tired just walking across it so heaven knows how tired Toby gets. You never know maybe a miracle will happen and it will stop raining for 3 months... 🤯🤣🤣🤣❤

    Advertise for CLEAN rubble to be tipped by arrangement of yourselves on to a pile. Dig out the area a bit at a time to good depth sloping away from stables into field to drain.Lay recycled plastic drainage pipes from stables into field, they are cheap and effective in the rubble,fill in rubble to a good height proud of stable floor height and top off with large stone direct from a quarry, spread yourselves.Remember to contain area with some sort of retaining boards or concrete wall that you can do yourselves and with heavy hammer try to level off the top were the horses will walk the most,put those rubber mats back on top for their feet. If the budget runs to it top off with smaller recycled stone fill, i think its around £25-£30 a ton, some people use road re-surfacing grit if you have road workers near by they are usually glad to dump it off for you for a drink, just be carefull that the small sharp stones don't get into the soft hooves and cause problems.Have fun, when on a budget so much has to done by your selves to save money but it does make you stronger.Good luck.

      Thank you so much @firstnamelastname-uq9hr that is really helpful. We have had a look into stone and apparently we need planning permission for it which we can't put in for as we don't own the land. It also came in at around £4000 for the whole area which is way out of our budget completely. I've seen people advertising road planings online so ill look into that this week now. I wonder if that would work with rubber mats on top? Super idea thank you!

      @@EssentiallyLivingtheDream I was going to say rubber mats might help in the interim even without the stone.

    • @EssentiallyLivingtheDream
      @EssentiallyLivingtheDream  Місяць тому

      I think that what the previous people had done because we have dug up absolutely loads of mat pieces. There are pieces of rubber matting sticking up everywhere @Isobel201 !

    The riverside walk I go on has a boggy muddy bit that hardly ever dries out so I and other walkers pile small twigs and bracken we collect on each walk over the muddy bit so eventually it's easy to walk on. We do it every year. Thinking of your muddy bit a huge pile of brush/bracken/small branches then cover with bark chippings may work. You'd probably have to top it up yearly. Maybe even use logs then cover with brush then bark chips. Hope this may work ❤

    • @EssentiallyLivingtheDream
      @EssentiallyLivingtheDream  Місяць тому

      And now I'm wishing I could go on this walk too! What a lovely community you must live in. Last year we rolled out a full round of hay there which worked for a short while but it turned into mud too. Does the bracken turn into mud @clare999 ?

    • @clare999
      @clare999 Місяць тому +1

      @@EssentiallyLivingtheDream the idea is to get a good base layer which takes years to rot away hence the logs at the bottom. Gorse and bracken are very fibrous and tough so almost wear out like matting. We've done this for a couple of years and although it's quite a thin layer due to what we can grab as we walk along it has started to raise the pathway slightly so not so muddy, unless the river floods 🤣

      @@EssentiallyLivingtheDream Good luck! I don't know where you live but if you have foresters nearby they may be able to provide hefty bits of offcuts and logs or they may let you scavenge bits which may help.

      We are in the midlands so forests are always a good drive away but it may be worth asking the local tree surgeons?

    Mud control mats are good.
    A monetary investment, but can later be lifted and moved to a new field if necessary.
    The mats lay on the ground surface and can be left for grass to regrow through, or you could infill with sand.
    From experience... I'd say don't just dig out the ground and add woodchip or similar, thinking that's a cheap and easy option, as it soon turns to compost that holds even more mud and water making matters even worse!
    Mud mats or similar products are worth saving up for, and once done should last forever.

    • @EssentiallyLivingtheDream
      @EssentiallyLivingtheDream  Місяць тому

      That's the thing isn't it @featherlock4817 the initial investment and then if we ever move its gone!
      Have you ever used them? I don't know anyone who has ever used them? I do like the idea of them being movable and removable. Its nice to have the option of being able to change your mind about where they have been put.
      I rolled out a whole round of hay that they refused to eat last year onto the mud and it was amazing for about 4 weeks until it sank and became more mud. ❤🐴💕

    We put up an electric fence, one pony used to lock it for fun and our five year old stallion likes to back into the fence. Honestly your horses are pretty normal compared to mine 😢

      The stupid boy would back into electric fences too and once he backed into a canal!!! 🤣🐴❤

    Hi I had same issue I got free hardcore from adverts and driving around. I build a frame from wood around area.i needed to cover/fill in I used old tarp lad that straight onto mud put the hardcore on top. Then responded to an ad for free driveway gravel if I collected it, which I did in the horse trailer a lot of journeys later laid that on topof hardcore. Been down 10 years I even put rubber matting down which stops mud transferring when they walk from field it gets hosed off.

      You should have a look at the video I put up about him taking my youngest son to his prom in July this year ❤
