😂 Jim cracked me up when he said he didn’t care if we liked the stalls, he was the one having to deal with them. Then Brenda was so sweet to soften what he meant. No problem Jim, the stalls look great and are a nice improvement over the old ones. I am sure if you were to do them 5 times over you may find something you would do a little different. I hope someone gets you a newer “hammer” action cordless screw gun for Christmas. It makes driving screws/bolts etc so much faster. Plus the newer ones have smaller and better batteries.
I know-I laughed a little when Jim said that. He normally doesn’t say anything like that-must be the fatigue. ❤️. Brenda did a quick save for those who might take offense. Lol!!
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim Yes, Jim may give his opinion and explain why he does something, but I’ve also seen multiple times that he has listened to and thought about a different way someone suggested. Ultimately he may not change anything if he doesn’t believe it’s a better way. But he seems open minded in general. I have seen him really listen to what the professionals such as the vet or farrier are telling him about what a horse needs. -And follow their sound advice. That’s the sign of a true horseman - openness to new ideas or a different way of thinking. Even if they don’t ultimately try it or go with it. I’ve been working with horses for about 50 years, and I’ve seen a lot of people who claimed to loved their horses and “knew what was best” completely ignore sound advice and think they know it all. Their horses are the ones who suffer so in the end. So, bravo Jim for telling it like it is, but also being open minded when it is in the horses’ best interests.
People who don’t deal with the freezing weather we deal with (I’m in western NY) have no clue what a challenge it is to water horses in the winter. Your horses went to drink before even going to their stalls, they know the routine & will be fine until morning. I get people who complain I don’t put a blanket on my Norwegian Fjord, if she had a coat like an Arabian or t bred, she’d need one, her breed is from NORWAY - she’s perfectly fine without a blanket. In fact she would sweat, get chilled if she were blanketed. I like the way you screwed down the pads. I once worked in a barn where the horses were in standing stalls & the shavings would get under the mats, made cleaning stalls a challenge - those mats are heavy! Hope the gorilla tape works. You did a great job with the build & I’m sure they will like the extra width when they lay down. Thanks for sharing your journey! God bless!
Don't worry about the Arabian, we live in Saskatchewan Canada, our Arabians never see a blanket in winter unless we get a mild spell and it rains then freezes, I use a polar fleece just to dry them out, and that would go for any horse breed.
By the way, for my outside stock tanks which are furnished with tank heaters I use those flexible hoses, which I when not in use roll up and throw them into the water. Thereby they never freeze up. I came up with the solution because I got tired of always carefully draining those plastic hoses.
I got this recommended and here I am. This is the first videos of yours I'm watching but you won a new subscriber! It's an amazing work!! I didn't understood everything you said because English is not my native language but I can tell when a work is well done and when someone is dedicated to it, this is what I am seeing here ! As I wish to start some wood work some day (as a simple hobby) this is really impressive. Love the fact that they their little name above. Oh and also, I know nooooothing about horse, stables requirements,.. but your horses are really, really gorgeous !!
Nice set up Jim , don’t worry about the negative comments ❤so nice to see Brenda out there with you … you both are the nicest couple love the time we get to spend with you all and your life on your farm ….❤please keep those videos coming….
What an incredible job you've done there in your barn Jim and family!! To think you sawed the trees down hauled them into your mill cut them to size and installed all that lumber yourself and all done in a weeks time or so!! I'm very impressed! Y'all always amaze me! The stalls look great!!! Good job Jim!
what an absolutely awesome job Jim and Brenda, Those kids are not spoiled but they are just well loved and cared for, I seen you kneeling Jim and sinking screws, made me want to pray for you and your health. GOD Bless you all.
As you were building the stalls, I found myself thinking they looked a little small, but with the horses in them they were quite spacious. You were right. And I agree with Jean that everything looks so clean cut and bright with the light-colored wood. Very nice job. The name labels are attractive, puts the perfect finishing touch to it all. God bless.
Good evening Jim and Brenda, you both have worked extremely hard and doesn't it show. The new stalls look fabulous, and looks very light in there. So very well done 👏 👏👏👏 Horses look happy and that's what matters 😊 All the very best, stay safe and try and keep warm.Wet and windy for us,but not to cold at all.🌱🌱🌱💕
The remodeled horse stalls look great and will serve you well for long time. The names are a great added touch. Your watering setup is very practical. Necessity is the mother of invention.
The stalls look great! A lot of hard work, but I bet it was well worth it. The kids did a good job on the name tags. Nice to be able to do a project with the family.
The stalls look great and the horses walked right in showing they felt comfortable in the new setting. Jim is a really polite gentleman. In contrast, when my uncles ran into construction problems in their barn, they cussed and cussed until things worked. As a boy, I thought you had to cuss to repair anything!
New barn is awesome! So handsome and well built. Horses appear to really enjoy their new stalls / the way they trotted into their own special spots! Well done!
Very neat. Clean enough to put a sofa in the aisle and spend time right there. In the old times in Bavaria there was a corner partition in which the farmer or farm hand slept during the night when a mare was about to give birth to a foal.
The stalls look great. I've got a pair of Belgian drafts that's been with me for over 20 years. Their names are Susie and Bill Darlin, love my big guys. I Enjoy your channel.
Very nice. The wood all cut by yourself and updated - great accomplishment that many of us wish we could do. I have a little horse that I bought in the year 2000 when he was about 1 yr old. The woman got him at the auction, thinking he would fit in her school horse line up, but he didn't. He was kept in what we call pony stalls, which is what you have for your horses. The mangers had raised bottoms because the ponies couldn't reach the bottoms otherwise. The hay was put in first and any soaked beetpulp or grain was put on top, and the bucket in the manger was water for the night. The pony stalls worked great for all the ponies except for the one I bought. He could undo his clip on the halter to the log weight and get out of his stall. The barn doors had to all be latched to keep him in, and sometimes we found him in other stalls, as he would free who ever had fed left so he could get at it. I have moved barns many times in the 21 years I have had this little boy, and I am happy to say about 5 years ago he stopped being naughty. Thank you for your videos. Love them.
Gosh Jim, you guys work so hard to take care of your horses! It shows! Thank you Brenda for all the videos! You also work hard to keep your beautiful farm! 🇱🇷
the horse barn looks great after the rebuild. You did a great job. Should last for a long time. Keep up the great videos and best to you and your family.
Even tho' I watched this when it was first posted it is still a happy episode to rewatch. Your horses are such characters and are really quite inquisitive. I like your effective method of getting water to the horses w/o going through a major construction and excavation project which would also cost quite a bit of money to eliminate stringing a short piece of hose. Best results are generally achieved by keeping it simple. Your horses are such patient partners for you and the farm it is heart warming. It is easy to wax nostalgic for some of us who grew up on or worked on farms that we forget how hard and sometimes messy it was when we were young. Additionally, even tho' it seems so relaxed and peaceful, I have to remind myself about how hard the manual labor really was and how uncertain the future was due to climate and other things out of your control. Those of us who go on about the serenity of farming never had to pay the bills and balance the budget. Still I am very relaxed after watching your videos. Thanks for sharing. ✌️🙏❤️🖖

it is absolutely fantastic! there is simply nothing as soul-satisfying as having everyone in, dry and fed in the winter....and your watering system is sweet for what you're working with-I've had to break ice, drag and drain 100' of hose in the winter-NOT fun. what a big project and how satisfying to get it done-great job gang!!
Great job Jim! I will be building horse stalls in the Spring with my Dad as he has 2 percherons. As a kid we’d knock trees down and drag them out of the woods using our horses like you.
