Brilliant!!!! This kind of vlog is the future enjoyed every minute. You can only watch so many bikes filtering and cars pulling out on the riders. Thanx russ
what a great video!! Even started writing this comment before I'd watched the whole video. A safe and experienced rider...great to see you on the track and with that lovely sounding Aprillia! Brill!!
I had the same when I came off my Fireblade in '92, there's nothing you can do but build up again. It's nature's way of making sure you look after yourself. Good luck.
I like how even you an instructor have fitted crash protectors on your bike. I also got mine fitted to my first big one, and boy am I glad I did! One drop and one low-side, and nothing but a slight scratch on the handlebars. Those things have saved me a LOT of money.
Congrats, Russ! Thanks for taking us along on the sly. The 2 riders ahead of you at the start looked a bit strange, legs down hovering their boots just off the tarmac.
Totally agree with the braking thing. In the back of my head is "it's £11,000 of bike, be careful" Also, with the higher bars I was getting serious arm pump and drag on the straights. Now I have the CBR600 RR-8, I may be more comfy with it. Thanks for the tips.
I enjoyed you talking us through the track, speeds, how to take particular corners. I think it's something you should do when you visit other tracks too. If it's not too much hassle of course ;) Great video.
Well done sir, sensible plan to set your own goal and work up to it. As well as people much faster than you there are those (mainly me) who would rather watch others do track days from the safety of their living room / office.
Great job! Thanks for showing us the track. Riding should be fun but not crazy where you are disturbed buy other riders who are erratic and scary. Great job my bobbbiiiee. Al. USA
Nice vid! Saw the British MotoGP there a couple of years ago so nice to get a view of the track! Would love to do a track day their some time. Congrats on beating the 2 minute mark!
Remember road riding is different, being on the track has changed my view of road riding, I believe if anything it's slowed me down! When you have an off it's natural to "smart away" a bit. Accept that and let things return naturally. If you are more careful for now, great. All the best.
Cheers mate, it's been on my mind since October. I've analyzed where I was going wrong but when you're actually there it's totally different. The video doesn't show the camber of this track sometimes.
Thanks Mark, getting toes down to me means they weren't high enough on the pegs, so it's a mistake in my eyes. A guy I went with had his feet normally on the pegs and was always scraping. If anything, if your feet are out of the way, you shouldn't scrape your toes at all. Hanging off the bike certainly makes the bike a little more twitchy.
Fantastic I think. Amazing buy for only £2.99! I was thinking about the Scala as they sell in-store rather than the Sena SMH10 but people had mixed thoughts on its quality. I guess Ill go and grab the Scala then as you've indicated you think its excellent. Thanks :P And keep up the videos! I've shown them to 5 of my bikey mates already as they all just got their licenses. Good responses from all of them too, they love them!
Good lap btw. Think this is the first trackday vid on youtube i've seen with a running commentary while riding round, surprised they let you on with the lead hanging though
Love your videos very informative, keep them coming! Its also nice to see that you keep your racing skills on the track and and you don't take them out onto the road. Sadly its the small minority of which who do that give motorcyclists a bad name. Happy riding!
I don't think I could race either TBH. On the track day you can choose to go at your own pace. I'd be interested in seeing my lap times with drop bars like on a CBR1000 or something, would it make a difference?
Nicely done! I kept getting that Melbourne hairpin wrong, too! And the horrible little chicane before it. I definitely have unfinished business there...
my older brother use to do track days at donington park am not sure if he still doing it at the min tho but i love watching bikes there at weekends while am down my familys in lincoln
I think you'd LOVE it for canyon roads, such fun with a little more comfort on the bars than the GSXR. Not sure about distance as it's only a Sunday toy for me. Take a look on the Aprilia forum AF1, there's quite a few higher milers on there. Let me know what you think if you get one.
Nice one. Getting a sub 2 is a good target for Donnington. Got my first sub 2 this year on my recently bought 2004 ZX6R which is now evolving into a half decent track bike in the shed. So hopefully be where I want it to be for 2014.
Awesome vid Russ! cant wait for the day when I get the opportunity to testdrive an Tuono v4r! I really like my current KTM but there's something special about this Aprilia :-) There are also rumors about an 1299cc SuperDuke, lets just hope they dont make it too heavy!
nice riding there your a bit of a bad ass on that bike tell me do you leave the shifter as it is or do you change it round so its one up five down on a trackday?
I just spent a while looking for your videos and couldn't spot it, possible link? Is it the gopros your using in this video too? Why are these better for track than the drift?
Hey Russ. What microphone are you using? It sounds a lot clearer than in previous videos. Ive also been looking at bluetooth intercoms for rider to rider. Do you have any recommendations from your experience? Subscribed since I first got my License in Australia! You've helped a lot with my confidence and learning!
Nice time! I feel I'll be quicker on the CBR600 firstly cos I won't be so worried about making mistakes and secondly the bike will feel more natural in the race position.
Saw the traction control light up a bunch of times --- how much do you think it was helping you around the track? Would you have binned it without it kicking in, do you think?
RoadcraftNottingham Thanks its not a great track for a 400. Back there last Sunday and managed a 1.52 so i'll be looking for under 1.50 next time if I can.
Cool video, I'm looking to do something similar, talking into a microphone whilst riding. Is there a wireless way of doing this? Also I assume the wire is running into a camera?
Hi Russ. Do you take out any personal injury insurance? . Obviously being an instructor not being able to work for any length of time due to injury from road or track would soon be a problem. Great vid once again .
Hi Russ, I've not yet done a track day so just curious. I was reading an article from Andy Ibott of california superbike school, who says the rear brake has no place on a track (even for steadying the bike) It looks to me like your are using the rear brake in this vid. Obviously you know well you're doing, I just wondered what are you thoughts on this? Thanks. Tristan
Good run Russ! Man things happen fast at speed. I think practice and circuit knowledge will make you much faster. Have you walked the circuit? It seems i remember many of the greats; Agostini, Roberts, and others would walk the circuit and get into their mind shut off and turn in points. Your lap will get much faster when you tidy up your corners!!! Damn your bike is quick! :)
That looked bloody quick to me! Great commentary. Well done on the time too, I have no inclination whatsoever to do a track day but that's not to say I wouldn't have been up for watching the full three laps +. Howay Russ, lets see some more. :-) PS Did you see that BaronVonGrumble one in the wet?
Great video, Watched this the day before i went on a Trackday there myself. Set my self a 2 minute barrier to ger under and managed a 1:55/6 or there about i think. Sure you could easly be faster, you looked a lot smoother than me.
ooooh, lovely bike.. i just got an Aprilia RX50, soon to do my CBT in 1 week haha... id really like to do track days when i get a bigger bike, how much does it cost to get in and that?
@RoadcraftNottingham great video mate I look to do my first track day at Donington in the spring of next year aswell as my first track day in general. I look forward to it. Is there any tips you can give me? I ride a 2010 L0 GSX-R 1000 Road Bike. Great lap you had there. TIA
Yeah, I've got a T4 as well. I was wondering if you had lap times in all three modes and if there was a difference. I've only taken mine to Barber once in Sport and didn't play with the modes, just TC settings.
Nice riding - I've done TD's in the US (On a R1200GS!) but I've heard they're rather different affairs over here - lot of track-only bikes and folks using it for essentially race practice VS skills improvement?
Looks like really fun !! Nice movie and it really looks like enjoying yor self :) You dont find stock pegs slippery ? i did so i have ordered some and lets hope they fit... Got damn i want to take mine Tv4 to track again :)
Thanks, it's important to ride your own ride. There were about 12 of us and we all did just that with no ego, was a pleasure to watch.
I'm off to Donny on 13th march for the first time. Great vid! I'm lookin forward to the day now!
Brilliant!!!! This kind of vlog is the future enjoyed every minute. You can only watch so many bikes filtering and cars pulling out on the riders. Thanx russ

It's always the ones you think you cocked up that turn out to be the best. Well done, great vid.
Great video with good image quality and perfect wide angle. Could watch it forever :)
Congrats, Russ! Thanks for taking us along on the sly.
The 2 riders ahead of you at the start looked a bit strange, legs down hovering their boots just off the tarmac.
Nicely done! Thanks for all your other videos too, great help in getting my Mod2 done.
Totally agree with the braking thing. In the back of my head is "it's £11,000 of bike, be careful" Also, with the higher bars I was getting serious arm pump and drag on the straights. Now I have the CBR600 RR-8, I may be more comfy with it. Thanks for the tips.
I always find your uploads a joy to watch.Keep them coming :D
I enjoyed you talking us through the track, speeds, how to take particular corners. I think it's something you should do when you visit other tracks too. If it's not too much hassle of course ;)
Great video.
Well done sir, sensible plan to set your own goal and work up to it. As well as people much faster than you there are those (mainly me) who would rather watch others do track days from the safety of their living room / office.
That was an awsome video mate you show what trackdays are about having fun and setting your own personal goals i ll see you on track have fun
LMAO! Purely coincidence, there was a group of them and I can guarantee a lot of blokes got blown away that day! Nice to see a girl on a track.
Great job! Thanks for showing us the track.
Riding should be fun but not crazy where you are disturbed buy other riders who are erratic and scary.
Great job my bobbbiiiee.

Well that was just great!!!
Well done on reaching the target Russ and by a full 5 seconds;-)
Really entertaining vid mate!
Another great video Russ, a pleasure to watch. Keep it up :)
Thanks Micke, I found them small lol. you'll have to get over to the UK to play at Donington, you'll love it cos you're a very fast rider. Cheers
Nice vid! Saw the British MotoGP there a couple of years ago so nice to get a view of the track! Would love to do a track day their some time. Congrats on beating the 2 minute mark!
Well done Russ, sound so relaxed as well:=) Enjoyed the ride!
"IT'S A GIRL!" haha classic but CONGRATS!! beat your time, got ya knee down nicely and toe! productive day love your vids man keep them coming :-)
Remember road riding is different, being on the track has changed my view of road riding, I believe if anything it's slowed me down! When you have an off it's natural to "smart away" a bit. Accept that and let things return naturally. If you are more careful for now, great. All the best.
Brilliant video Russ as usual, keep them coming!!!
Cheers mate, it's been on my mind since October. I've analyzed where I was going wrong but when you're actually there it's totally different. The video doesn't show the camber of this track sometimes.
This made me laugh a little. I would be holding on for dear life but Russ yaps away like he was having tea and biscuits. Great stuff.
I'd love to have a go at a trackday. Well done for beating your time!
When I do a Donnington trackday I'll post my time, got my first trackday at Rockingham in may, well! Excited
A track day (even if you go in the novice group) can teach you loads about your bike. I saw some touring bikes on the track yesterday.
Loved watching this, can certainly see why o was such a failure on my zx9r there, will attempt it again this year on my fz6 lol
Great lap. 55 through the Foggy Esses, nice.
Nice video. And great editing. Thanks for posting!
Cheers. Got another one this wed. Hope the weather holds
Thanks. I did a 1.54 on the last day. I think the Tuono has loads of wind drag so I get arm pump. I may do better with a CBR600 track bike. We'll see.
an ex pupil took his 125 around the track with us. he really enjoyed it. it may be best to wait until you get a bigger bike :-)
Fantastic I think. Amazing buy for only £2.99! I was thinking about the Scala as they sell in-store rather than the Sena SMH10 but people had mixed thoughts on its quality. Thanks for Sharing this have watched it a fair few times now before a track day there tomorrow really helpful.
Thanks. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised at what you and the bike can do when in a safer environment. Fancy it around July?
Good lap btw. Think this is the first trackday vid on youtube i've seen with a running commentary while riding round, surprised they let you on with the lead hanging though

Nice ride!!
Nice bike!!
Beautiful video!!

Thank you for the quick reply! Not something I see very often, impressive :)
But you were loving the quick shifter for that! she's a beauty of a bike i'll give you that Russ!
Nicely done! I kept getting that Melbourne hairpin wrong, too! And the horrible little chicane before it. I definitely have unfinished business there...
Thanks, I think M13 did something similar (but not as good) ;-) The lead was neat and short so there wasn't a problem with it.
Well done mate, that's a great improvement!
my older brother use to do track days at donington park am not sure if he still doing it at the min tho but i love watching bikes there at weekends while am down my familys in lincoln
Very cool, you planning on going to any other tracks Russ?
Just get the ride on that Tuono, can't wait to hear what you think of it, sounds GORGE doesn't it? :-D
Great upload that! really enjoyed watching it, you rode well too!
The light flickers well before the TC kicks in. I had it kicking in last track day, it cuts the ignition out so I can't accelerate when it does.
Nice one. Getting a sub 2 is a good target for Donnington. Got my first sub 2 this year on my recently bought 2004 ZX6R which is now evolving into a half decent track bike in the shed. So hopefully be where I want it to be for 2014.
Well done on your sub 2 minute too. Have you noticed that afterwards you always think you could have gone faster? :-)
Always think one could go faster when watching but its a different story in reality when you are hanging off the bike flicking down through Craner!
Awesome vid Russ! cant wait for the day when I get the opportunity to testdrive an Tuono v4r!
I really like my current KTM but there's something special about this Aprilia :-) There are also rumors about an 1299cc SuperDuke, lets just hope they dont make it too heavy!
Cool ! I Did a 2.00.7 last lap on my last session (01/06/15) First time on a track. Not too bad for a Big Fat Bloke on a 2007 Turnip.
nice riding there your a bit of a bad ass on that bike tell me do you leave the shifter as it is or do you change it round so its one up five down on a trackday?
Well done Russ always good to beat previous runs.you'd still be waiting come x mad for me to finish if i was there lol
Cheers mate. green laning tomorrow, that should be interesting!
I just spent a while looking for your videos and couldn't spot it, possible link?
Is it the gopros your using in this video too? Why are these better for track than the drift?

Good work! 2 minutes is my barrier as well!
Still can't perfect Redgate everytime. This year though!
What do you use to edit videos and add the timer?
yeah thats true, and thanks for all the videos, there a great help :) looking forward for more videos :)
Good time, I could only manage 1.56 on my zxr400 the first time I was there so well done.
1.56? That's awesome on a 400! Don't try a 1000cc then, you'd kill me!
RoadcraftNottingham Thanks its not a great track for a 400. Back there last Sunday and managed a 1.52 so i'll be looking for under 1.50 next time if I can.
I did a 1.53.6 Monday as I'm starting to get my mojo back after the crash. You're storming!
Nice one Russ - lovely bike too :)
Great. Video
Doing a Ron Haslam track day mid April hope it’s dry day
Thanks. Linz said that too, I didn't realise it would help that much to be honest. :-)
Cool video, I'm looking to do something similar, talking into a microphone whilst riding. Is there a wireless way of doing this? Also I assume the wire is running into a camera?
Where do you place your mic? This is an ongoing issue I'm having with my Drift HD
Hi Russ. Do you take out any personal injury insurance? . Obviously being an instructor not being able to work for any length of time due to injury from road or track would soon be a problem. Great vid once again .

congrats on the sub 2 minutes mate :D must get myself to one of them when I have a big bike

Another awesome video :) i have never done been on a track before... what is it like when got your first knee down?
That looked bloody quick to me! Great commentary. Well done on the time too, I have no inclination whatsoever to do a track day but that's not to say I wouldn't have been up for watching the full three laps +. Howay Russ, lets see some more. :-)
PS Did you see that BaronVonGrumble one in the wet?
Thanks for sharing this, I thoroughly enjoyed it :)

Great lap you had there.
TIA
Do you have special clutch or something? How the hell do you change gears that quickly? Clutchless shifting? Great video!
Thanks, I try to keep my uploads shorter as I personally get bored with 10+ min uploads. I'll check Baron's upload out, cheers.
great stuff mate, I wish I could get down a track one day!
Roadcraft, I'm curious to what your difference was going into Sport or Track mapping on it?
Yeah, I've got a T4 as well. I was wondering if you had lap times in all three modes and if there was a difference. I've only taken mine to Barber once in Sport and didn't play with the modes, just TC settings.
I'm from derby so can't wait till I get my test done and a 600 to go to there, cle
I think the Gopro picture quality is slightly better than the Drift HD. Mounted to the bike there's no competition.
Great video, nice one on the time. Have CSS this week, have been playing about trying to find a good camera angle.
Nice riding - I've done TD's in the US (On a R1200GS!) but I've heard they're rather different affairs over here - lot of track-only bikes and folks using it for essentially race practice VS skills improvement?
It was a Focused events day. Well organised
It's just inside my chin piece but is well sponged. The mic is also great quality for the price, spose I'm lucky to have found it.
Congrats on beating the 2 minute mark Russ!!! Time to get it down to 1:45 haha!!
Looks like really fun !! Nice movie and it really looks like enjoying yor self :)
You dont find stock pegs slippery ? i did so i have ordered some and lets hope they fit...
Got damn i want to take mine Tv4 to track again :)
They've been talking about Cadwell or Mallory. I'm not sure I wanna drive for a couple of hours, do a track day then drive back again.
@ roadcraftnottingham how much did you pay for your track gear like the pants and boots. ?
awesomeness!! how much did the day cost you if you dont mind me asking?
wow awesome knee down how long did it take you to be able to do that?
