    A very learned gentleman said to me in a north of the border accent, “don’t do anything that will frighten the bike.” He is a master of understatement. All useful stuff on a nervous track day!

    On a Fire blade with an instructor, braking for the Foggy S's the rear of the bike was up and front suspension very compressed and unstable. I found it difficult to change down gear without locking the rear tyre and get positioned on bike to negotiate the "s's" The instructor said stay in third gear (145mph) then when going for the brakes drop down to second immediately. I said your joking surely, the bike was on rev limiter and you want me drop it down a gear, i said the vales would be pinging up through the tank. No he said, the back wheel would bite and grip the whole bike would squat down on the suspension equally and not pivot on front. the bike will become very stable. Ok, i did exactly what he told me, and he was 100% correct the bike was a completely different animal. very stable and easier to control. I was gobsmacked!! The most thrilling & satisfying experience in my life!

    Please keep making videos this winter. Some of us really need them. As a caregiver for my 80 and 90 yo parents I got nobody to talk motorcycle stuff with except for an hour on Sundays at our meet spot on the mountain. Thanks man! (And don't feel too sorry for me because I do have year round riding here 😉).

    I actually did a day at Ron Haslam's race school at Donington with you once, on the 600's (Premier I think it was called). Next time I went back on the 1000cc bikes (Elite). Started my day with 2:15, ended with 1:56 after three 15 minute sessions, put my knee down multiple times without even trying and scraped footpegs quite a bit (was probably leaning too much :D). Would love to go back to see if I can get better but having watched some onboards, specifically from Hicky I realised that I'll never be even close to guys who have been doing it since they were kids no matter how much I learn but still, being 20-ish seconds off their times I'm personally quite happy :)

    Loving the content it's great to get that understanding as to what's going on in the mind of a racer, especially considering this isn't a race weekend too.
    I'd be interested to hear what some of the common issues you (and other pro riders too) see on trackdays in each of the experaince levels that hold back peoples lap times, and tangentially to that what you find the biggest differences are between some experienced track day riders and professional racers?

    Another fantastic video . How do you take the hump on back straight after coming out of coppice , I struggle with the bike as I go over the hump , front wheel lift's and sometimes I feel like I could loose control . I'v not been riding to long so my experience is limited . Some say short shift as you hit it or tip back brake , what's your opinion . Cheers buddy and keep it up I'm loving the videos .

    What gearing did you run for donington TMac

  • @XtremeCoke
    @XtremeCoke 2 роки тому

    If I enter redgate in second gear on a 1000cc bike and up to 4th into hollywood and back down to 2nd before commit to old hairpin, do you see this reving is too high and risk of losing grip too easy?
    Edit: listen to your engine sound again and again, I actually think you are down from 5th to 2nd @3:08 just before the green paint prior enter into redgate then down from 4th to 2nd into old hairpin @3:27? I think we actually agrees in gearing here or have i missed something?

    • @tmac77
      @tmac77  2 роки тому

      I must be up to 6th gear in that case cause I definitely always do craner in 4th and old hairpin in third. Every bike, rider and gearing will be different though that's just what works for me 😎

  • @ryansandall633
    @ryansandall633 2 роки тому

    Looks so easy with these smooth cameras and you piloting the beast!
    , is there any thing that you specifically enjoy, or find difficult at donnington?
    Also when your braking down the inside or on a diffferent line can you really feel how much less grip there is off line, how do you judge it? Do you keep the bike more upright or brake more gently?
    Any setup ideas, when you arrive at donnington is there a go to setup or is this kind of detail not able to be spoken too much if it’s confidential between teams?

    • @tmac77
      @tmac77  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you! There's no easy answer to any of those questions unfortunately. Judging grip takes years of practice I guess and set up varies so much from bike to bike and rider to rider there's also no straight forward answer.

    • @ruzzwald
      @ruzzwald 2 роки тому

      @@tmac77 fair enough, I just want to know all the details haha
      Really want to ride a lot next year on track so all these sensations or even things that you may consider obvious are worth chatting about cos I'm sure someone will learn from it
      Gearing I always find interesting when your short shifting
      People often don't realising that racing is as much about making it as easy as possible to go as fast as you can
      Like when you were talking about the first curves holding it in 4th
      Less work, more consistency etc..
