Onboard video of the scary start to the opening International Classic GP race at Donington Park. Put your hand up, legs in front of the footpads and hope for the best... Once I got started it was all about damage limitation and scoring points for the championship. Mike Spike Edwards riding the Team Beale Roberts Yamaha TZ350.

One of the best sounding two strokes I have ever heard on UA-cam, expertly ridden by a true road racing legend, wonderful upload, thanks 👌
Cheers Panozman, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Incredible riding. Not only your speed but in knowing when to pass and when not to. Shows why you're such a legend.
Spot on gearing..... Well prepared and well ridden!
TZ was always at its best when it was angry
Nothing.........nothing, comes even close !

Hello "Mr. Corner Speed". It's been a while since I haven't your vids. Although from half a decade ago, it is always a great fun watching you, especially on two-stroker. Thanks to youtube that reminds you of something you used watch frequently. All the best from 62 yrs "young" fan.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I have new videos, this is from this year in Austria - ua-cam.com/video/81HEQQ6G7gA/v-deo.html I don't feel any slower - even though this year, I have my 60th birthday!
Leaning over in my chair watching this! Love it. Love the 2 smokers!!!
Thanks for commenting Mark, glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely brilliant, what a comeback.Amazing skill didn't miss an apex had me buzzin, now gonna watch again👍👍👍
Thanks, it's always great to get comments on my videos, I really appreciate it.
Awesome come back ! Love the heavenly noise of you wringing it’s neck !!!
U fast 💨
Thanks Nic, it made for an exciting video that's for sure www.v121pro.com
I love these little bikes. The man in this video has a very high caliber of technique and skill. Every gear selection, every downshift, keeping it right inside the power-band, I’m glad to have stumbled upon this video. Best part is, she’s an all mechanical machine. I’m willing to bet money this rider and bike could take anyone on a modern small displacement motorcycle.
Thanks for your comments, I do my best and love riding the TZ's, raw power and no rideraids all amke for interesting riding.
Fantastic, made my day, used to ride a TZ350H back in the day, loved Donington, brought a lot of memories back. Thanks, Tim
Tim, thanks for taking the time to comment, this is just a snapshot of my online content, something you might find interesting is my exclusive content, available for about the 'price of a pint' a month - which all goes towards keeping me on track making stuff for people to watch, have a look www.patreon.com/no1bloke
apart from the start, loved how that bike was kept non stop in the power band, great video, great race.
Thanks Tom - if you like that, out of interest have you watched the video from last year at Paul Ricard ua-cam.com/video/uakAKxw9O2Q/v-deo.html
I hadn't seen it but have now, fantastic lap Mike, love your video's have subbed:)
Now this is what a man in a hurry looks like! This man can ride the wheels off of any motorcycle but I always come back to the videos where he rides a TZ350. Absolutely amazing... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It seems only fair to give these guys a headstart...awesome!
well played, splendid video two strokes forever
Absolutely brilliant. Could watch that all day. . 👍

Amazing machine and rider, craner curves are a really scary piece of track. Balls of steel
Thanks for taking the time to post a great comment.
I was there mate, stood by the chicane. It was amusing seeing how far you'd moved up every lap.
Hello mate, did they all use same cc class? I keep wondering... 😅. Please answer me, please
Hi, some are 250cc some 350cc.
@@MikeSpikeEdwards tq
Great recovery Spike, impressive stuff :-)
Great stuff! Many years ago I raced an F2 sidecar outfit with a TZ350G engine, this video reminded me of something that I had totally forgotten about, it was a push start race at Snetterton, my engine refused to start (I suspect the rings were shot), anyway by the time it started my passenger and I were half a lap behind everyone, we finished second overall, just like you, we were on a mission!
The Yamaha 350s were a true David in a land of Goliaths. Another was Kaw 750 triple and the first Super bike Honda CB 750. Love the 2 strokes, you know how to maximize power band.
Extraordinaire Mike Edwards !
Always feels great passing all those guys after a bad start : but the fast guys are going as fast as you and they are long gone…
Yes, they're also on larger capacity machines, I'm never going to catch the leaders from the back row of the grid on a 390cc bike. But hey, I didn't need to, nothing to prove, they're fighting for a championship, I'm not.
You can really see the difference rider skill and confidence makes. Those guys had such a huge jump on you. Very impressive.
Thanks for taking the time to make a comment Jangles, I've got lots of bike videos from over the years at www.bikevids.online
You can search by track or bike.
Awesome riding Mike, and the bike sounds beautiful.
Stellar driving.
That man can ride a bike, great stuff 👍
awesome riding mike. ranks amongst the top racing ive seen.....doesnt get any better! two stroke power forever!

WOW GREAT ENGINE RESPONSE , LIGHT WEIGHT, VERY GOOD MANEUVERABILITY, EXCELLENT RESPONSE OF TIRES , BLESSINGS
I do not ride motorbikes but watching this guy he caught them all up with ease and overtook them all, Amazing to watch (Hes a Animal on that motorbike) What kind of speeds are the motorbikes doing ?
Ham thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it - I scared myself by stalling on the line, as it's so easy to be hit from behind by other bikes, especially as I was on the front row with the whole field behind me. I've been racing since 1982, I'm so lucky to still be on track aged 57 and enjoying my riding. Top speed on the Yamaha TZ350 is probably about 150mph.
great lines. flowing wide exit.
most go to tight to apex.keeping speed up. not braking hard
ausome . now i no were im going wrong
love 2 strokes! my rd 350 and my 750 h2 triple! insane fun! (back in the day, 1972)
Enjoyed every minute of that mate, I enjured every corner, tis a Epic track.
Great recovery laps 👍👍
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I never quite know whether people find my stuff interesting. Cheers. Mike. www.patreon.com/no1bloke
A viewers treat, thanks
What a blast. You were even accelerating hard at the bends.
Well done Spike. If you had made a good start there would have been no competition.
This. This is what proper 2-stroke racing sounds like.
I see too many videos where riders have the machine but want to keep it running forever - it's a racing machine and should be raced!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Jack; I'm lucky to be invited to race bikes, so I don't have to worry about keeping them running forever - the owners just want me to be as competitive as possible on them.
I was starting to hear some rattles with all that time in over-rev...lol...nice job...from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠🇺🇸p.s stay safe
Awesome rider good on you mate well done
I new he wer going to pick um off, front off the grid and engine that squeals like a banchee , love it .
what a ride well done watched from the grandstand loved the power wheelies coming onto the main straight
Flat out when cranked over. Impressive!
True CHAMP...Excellent stuff...
DAMN!! what a ride 😎
nice bike, monster sound and right gearing setup too for donington park. it sounds like your bike still able to push 500 rpm more after that red shift light before shifting. and I like your engine brake too 🤘 keep this TZ on the powerband
Thanks for the great comments.
Sweet running bike with rider to match!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I must admit, it might have been a much more boring video if I hadn't messed up the start. Lot's more of my racing videos here www.bikevids.online
That is one sweet ride! Love 2-strokes!
yeah the Spike is a legend
Like hearing Paganini himself play one of his own pieces on his Cannon violin .... The Maestro'
It would have been fun to see the places gained ticked off so we could keep up with your progress through the pack! I was guessing by how quickly and easily you were passing other people as to where you were! Great ride after a err wobbly start!
Ops,coitus Interruptus at Start 😬But who needs the f...ing Start,if you got the Balls & a Heart 😀👍Awesome talented the Guy 👍
Awesome work from rider and bike !! :-)
Seeing this makes me want you to mentor me!
Bravo , well played !
Amazing talent and bravery
great job and great fun anyway I believe ;)
I has a 1970 Kawasaki Mach 3 triple, and it just Exploded from 6,000 rpm to 10,000 and that sound was Intoxicating.
What a ride. Where did you end up? What caused it to stall? Seemed very low revs. For a race start. I'm guessing they have to be a little lower on a 2 stroke to try and keep the front wheel down. Great to watch
1:08 Needless to say the powerband comes on around 9000 RPM :)
Get that package delivered
Superb race ,, pilot top !!!!!
Awesome
Bravo" i counted 30 bikes passed,
Old carburetor two strokes would load up if you didn't keep them rubbed above idle
that was epic riding
I don't know anything about bikes, is his bike a lot faster than all the others? Or is he just an insane rider?
Cheers Fordy. The red mist just descended once I messed up the start. I was not technically insane, just really really angry with myself.
Holy shit I see what mean scary
Exatamente o que eu queria ver!
Would like to see a 350cc 4 stroke try and keep up with this 2 stroke it's the Honda nsr500 I Would love a shot of 200+ BHP out of a 500 2 stroke
go mike you are like tazio nuvolari!!!!
What tipe of bikes is on track 400cc?
Mostly Yamaha TZ350's.
Goodstart
Was the start scary because the other riders only got a 30 second head start?
Could have been, ;) but I think in reality it was because I was on the front row, with the entire field streaming past me!
@@MikeSpikeEdwards Indeed, like being stuck between two freight trains.
Mr. Pac-Man
Che martello! ...e tutto senza elettronica....
what happened, why did it stall? runs like a champ.
Brain fade really, simply not enough revs but letting the clutch out. I guess I was used to getting big four strokes off the line...
geweldig
0:44 what went though your mind spike? That has to be my worst fear on track getting hit by another bike.
Get tucked in, and most important, put your feet in front of the footpegs - this way if you do get a glancing blow as someone passes, your legs are not trapped, and the footpegs offer a small amount of protection.
Why are all the other bikes so slow? Are they same cc?
Thanks for commenting Bruno - they are a mix of 250cc and 350cc. I usually run at the front Bruno, and won the championship the year this was recorded - so I am just a very aggressive rider who wants to win the race. Oh, and I have been racing every year since 1982 - so I have lots of experience.
@@brunovincent1969 Its not that the other bikes are slow, its that this bike is an exceptional TZ 350 just look how high it revs,,, most dont rev above 11.000--plus an exceptional rider
@@derekskinner If you can get hold of the continental GP kit that was around like Hummel cylinders, there were probably others that I cannot recall the name of, then it makes a difference I read somewhere that when Chas Mortimer swapped out to these back in the day he said they gave a much better spread of power, Hoekle cranks were always more durable and gave you approx twice as much mileage between rebuilds and a lot has been learned between 1981 and the present day about 2 stroke tuning clearly any or all of the above could be applied to any TZ350 racing today and as you say that extra 1000 or so peak is an indication that this is not a standard motor.
Of course all this would be irrelevant unless you had a rider who could utilise it.
👏👏👏👏
brother you need a tz750
You're right - but as I race other peoples bikes - all I need now, is someone with a TZ750 to pick up the phone :)
@@MikeSpikeEdwards you will get it, they made it for good pilots like you. Greetings, I subscribe your channel ; )
He was fast than anybody out there, right?
Yes, I hope so Almir, if not then definitely top 3.
Shit😍
Not much of a commuter bike then.
It'd be find Gerry, just don't let the revs drop...
он что, против 125сс гоняет ? как стоячих делает. я понял он против китайских мотиков .гоняет
Get a scooter, speed is not your game.
Thanks, but I'm not so sure I could have overtaken everyone like I did on a scooter...
Incredible consistency lap for lap! Great racing! :D
Great bike, excellent rider, takes me back 40 years...
Thanks for taking the time to comment Hywel, don't forget sometimes the memory is better than reality! www.patreon.com/no1bloke
.. ohh man .. you are verry verry crazy ... the best.. i'm from indonesia.. and i like you ..
Così si deve far cantare un TZ! Complimenti.
Those cold plugs get a bit fouled up at low revs before the off ??
Amazing ride tho. You've inspired me to get my RG500 out :)
NOBBY 07836 man ! You have a Suz RG 500 Gamma, you my friend are a lucky man.
NOBBY 07836 I always dreamed of owning a Yamaha RZ500 as well.
@@deborahchesser7375 same here...from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠🇺🇸p.s stay safe
Quel extraordinaire pilote ! C'est dommage il méritait des applaudissements quand -même ...
Great ride Mike and nice to see the TZ ridden as it was meant to. I had a TR2B 350 back in the 70's and raced that, some times I wish I kept it, great bike and off the line quicker than a lot of TZ's but a lot soon passed me lol, good times.
To say you are in a league of your own would be an understatement, absolutely smashed it. Respect to you Mike👍👍👍
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really do appreciate it. Cheers.
That sound is... pure magic
That power band 😳😳😳😳🤤🤤🤤
Masterclass on a misile , scary start getting the blue touch paper lit on it but awesome ride ,Top Man pleasure to experience onboard ..
;{>
Thanks Gav, it was a bit embarrassing to fluff the start - but hey, might have been a very boring video if I'd just got away cleanly. page.ringpin.com/no1bloke
Plenty of splendid videos But that one is outstanding. Because of an outstanding pilot. Bravo ! Even more : Bravissimo ! Tres belle course ! Ca envoie a un niveau ! Impressionnant !!!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Pascal. I have more exclusive content, if you would like to join me at www.patreon.com/no1bloke
you could have given them a bit of a chance Mike :-)
Really good racing skills, love that machine
Master class.. respectful whilst passing less talented riders 👍🏻
Yes, Redliner, and early on thru a right and left complex whilst passing quite a few he stayed down in the lower gear to hold drive for the short run to the next corner, rather than shifting up a gear and losing the power band. Only did it on one lap, and only because of traffic. Savvy race craft.
Respect 👍👏👏
What a great ride! Nightmare start, enjoy the track while its empty and get on it, then just start blappin' dude after dude! Whether you got the place you wanted out of that race or not, you gotta be happy with how you rode! Hats off!
That would be scary, great riding, the bikes well set up.
Bloody hell, once it gets going it’s bloody fast! (You might as well have just started at the back!)
