    You’re speaking facts. We don’t have an identity, we have habits and traits that we develop over time due to circumstances, and we accept this as our identity. But nothing is set in stone.

    • @philipholding
      @philipholding 8 місяців тому +6

      Yes, but may I add to this. Our social identity is shaped/ conditioned by others, especially in our formative years, by significant others. That is how we create our own reality and see the world as we are, not as it is.

    This was so insightful and validating. I grew up with an older sister who was praised for her intellect and I was always on the slower side. She bullied me into believing I was stupid and I still struggle with that to this day, even though I have a college degree and a great job that I excel at. Still learning how to self fulfill my prophecy but it’s in motion!

    17:20 I also have adhd and everything u said here was so relatable 😭 same thing with me, absolutely hated talking and answering in school as a child and honestly all throughout my life, I think it’s the energy it takes for our brain to focus on the information that we physically can’t talk on top (also prob social anxiety as well) but the hyperactive brain making us feel deeply about topics can cause feelings of unworthiness for kids with adhd :/ good to recognise these things though to understand and improve, for years I had no idea and was constantly worsening myself

    “Believe it and you will see it” + “if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change” I live by these Wayne Dyer quotes they go both ways too so I kinda feel like if I’m u at least aiming for neutral my experience is already elevated + more stable + a blank slate for anything good on top of that to be that and not just swallowed tying to cancel out the bad.

    This resonated so strongly with me. I’ve always been a pessimist by default, but as I get older I understand that there is no value in that. So I’ve been actively trying to be more accepting when things don’t go as I initially expect. It’s the universe giving me a sign or an opportunity, rather than a hurdle or an attack on me. I’ve by no means mastered it, and pessimism is still my knee jerk reaction. But I’m learning to talk myself out of that and look at the other side. It’s not easy, but it’s getting easier every year. How you perceive your circumstances is fully up to you, and that’s so powerful!

    This is awesome. I've been deconstructing the internal beliefs and perceptions I have about myself, and other people, and the world for years now. Keep finding even deeper beliefs that cause suffering, and really curiously investigate them, why do I think this why, why do I believe this, who told me this etc... And it's a difficult journey, but it's so worth it. When you deconstruct these limiting beliefs, you get the opportunity to decide who you want to be. Right now I'm working through such a deep painful belief I've lived with my whole life. That I'm not good enough. It's such a fucker of a belief, it really messes with your experience of life in every way. But over this last year I've seen a huge shift in how I treat myself, how I show up in my relationships, and what I believe I'm worthy of. I'm starting to act like I am good enough. But really, the truth is, we are all far more than enough

And even now I still feel 'odd' even though I am seemingly popular and get along well with people. So reassuring ❤

    37:15 Though you say you’re not an LA person why not try Santa Barbara and if not Ventura County? Both counties are just outside of LA and have more of a suburban like feel while still being a big city and luckily if you miss LA it’s quite literally 20-30 minutes down the freeway.
    Usually because of this not only are things less packed but rent is also less expensive since you’re not in the deep city. Plus there are TONS of small towns in the area alike Santa Paula, Camarillo, Ojai, and Oxnard that have more of an overall communal feeling and hopefully not too much culture shock coming from countryside Britain especially if your planing on moving.

    i feel you so much girl !! It's been 4 years that i moved to London, and the weather here is just depressing me. I am thinking of another plce where to go but i feel stuck because of my job.... I think you should try and move to LA, what can go wrong? You have nothing that is keeping you here in terms of house contract or job.. so you are pretty much free to explore. Even if it doesn't turn right, the worst that can happen is that you ome back to London in one year. You will find London exactly as it is now, don't worry, you will not miss out haha Also, I think that is even more intresting in your 20s to live in 4\5 different places. it brings out sides of you that you will never find out by staying in your old same comfort town. I am 26 now and have lived in 4 different places since i moved out of my parents house for uni when i was 18 and i can look back ans see all the different stages of my mind and life prosprective based on the place where i was and the people i met there... i actually mimss that so much :( !!! I think that since i am an "audlt" and i have a real job it is so much more difficult for me to take the decison to just leave. But I want to move, pls if you have any suggestion in how to not feel stuck and be brave to leave your job and start a new life sowhere else I am here to hear.

    Hey, my intuition tells me that I like your energy and ether. In terms of having been thought of as special needs I can relate, happened to me in grade 3 at age 7. In most schooling and jobs people have mostly thought of me as being deficient socially or mentally in some way, when in reality it was predjudice and discrimination and lack of understanding and accomodation and fairness for pseudo-disabled people.
    Me only learning to train myself to write with my dominant hand (left hand) starting at age 30 till now at age 33. Also, I've only just started learning to train myself to "have guts while being left body dominant" (weird phrasing I know) around this stage of my life. But anyway, I'm making progress and I am happy! Good luck in your potential plans in LA. Not trying to throw negative info, it sounds like you've been there. Just pointing out the lack of walkability/not being a walkable city as well as the homeless there which people complain about, but you seem to be looking at that stuff, the lack of walking positively. But anyway, follow your gut, it sounds like it's "cheaper than the UK" from your perspective! Best of luck! Thanks for sharing your story!

    I know you said that you don't like how people say money doesn't make you happy. What they really mean is that money cannot fix you of your mental health. Money cannot cure depression, anxiety and other psychological problems. Money really just makes you more of who you really are. It expands you. And a lot of people who have money become more fearful. They could be afraid to lose it. But money does give you some certainty and security. It can help you meet some of your basic needs like shelter and food. And it's true that you can use money to buy experiences. And a lot of us would rather spend money on people we love. Because when we only think about ourselves, we suffer a lot more. Nature gives us clues when we help others and we are of service and we provide value for people we get. Rewarded. Nature is teaching us that we should care about each other.

      Because it doesn't matter your gender or the colour of your skin, at the end of the day, underneath it all, we are all human. And we have a lot more in common than people like to believe.
