My brother just bought me a santa cruz longboard for my birthday. I used to skate board as a kid about 30 years ago, I was able to hit a red run after about an hour learning to snowboard after 25yrs exp of skiing so I'm super excited to do some cruising n carving. This vid is super helpful n I've subbed! Love from the UK 🇬🇧👍
Will you make a video on how to handle speed wobble when your going downhill and fast? I crashed while bombing a hill my second day of long boarding. I didn’t get off successfully and hit my head on the pavement. I was knocked out and thankfully my boyfriend had a bystander and cop help and was able to call 911. I was life flighted and I have three skull fractures and staples in my head to go along with the black eye and bruising to my face. I want to long board with a helmet now on and pads like you recommended and I wish I had watched tutorials like yours before going out to learn. I am going to watch videos on how to longboard, even though I can’t for while till I get better. I don’t want to give up on the fun and I can use this time to learn more before I get on a board again. I am not supposed to drive, sneeze or cough due to injury but when I’m better I plan to wear protective gear and go again but slower working my skill levels up. Like breaking and getting off a board safely. I didn’t know how to safely handle my situation when I was going fast and wobbling… the biggest difference would have been gear. Would have prevented a wrist and head injury that slowed my life down all cause I wanted to enjoy my longboard, without a helmet. Thank you for your videos ❤
How has your healing process been going? I hope you are back to doing what you love. One thing that has help me tremendously is taking a longboard class. You can Google local classes. I’m with EastSide longboards here in Portland, Oregon. I couldn’t foot break efficiently to save my life. Now I can foot break down a while run if need be. Always wear you pads you will have that added confidence. When I got my first board I sent it on a trail no olds no nothing. I made it but I knew I needed pads. So you’re not alone.
I would say no. When I’m hitting a run and get spooked I squat ALL the way down as low as I can get. My back foot heel is always in air. I cannot out my foot or I will not be as stable. Only my front foot is flat. If I’m free riding and not tucking is the only time my back foot is flat.
@@ic9628 I feel about a month a half ago. That was in the regular class. Then I started the advanced class. I was really questioning if this was for me. I’m like I fell and crushed my shoulder going slower. Now we’re doing 30’s. I was walking up the hill to start line like why am I doing this? Can I even do this? Why do you even keep coming to this class? I couldn’t quit coming. So I just sent it and after I did I got my bearings back. You have to shred with people who will push you. When you see someone doing it gives you that confidence you can do it also. Next thing you know your shredding bro and hooting 😂
Honestly if you aren't athletic. You're going to have a hard time. I.E a tutorial. I'd know why. I haven't longboarded in over a decade. 3 deployments, government contracting, and consulting..... the other week I got a board. 20yr old dudes in PA were blown away how I could just jump on and in a hour I'm keeping with them
There is no goofy or regular riders. If you've never ridden before, you have no preference. Just pick goofy and learn it. It's safer for riding in traffic.
I disagree. I never skated before or snowboarded or whatver, but gooing goofy from the get go immediately felt good. I could do regular cruising, slow turning, decent stopping and just stand on my right foot like forever until I need to push again from the get go, first hour. In regular stance I have hard time even just going straight, let alone turning or going down mild hill. For me the awkward feeling is like writing with non dominant hand. Maybe for some people both feel same or they just naturally don't have much balance, but for me it's day and night from the first second I stood on the board.
No way... I push Mongo for years, and you have more control and you can push faster! MONGO IS ALSO GREAT! All the skaters that tell you not to do it, dont know it, because other skaters tell them.. please follow your own style dudes! 🛹
I was looking for this comment I get way more speed pushing mongo! Much more control for sure. Never really been much for the stigmas against it just because some people don’t like the way it looks

I've tried the other ways to push and could never get on the board and the mongo is the only one that works better for me.
Could you make a video on how to pick up a board like that
Super helpful thanks 🙏
That's awesome to know! Let us know any questions
Helped a lot

even pros still put their helmets on while bombing hills so dont worry if you think it'll make you less cool

Don't you have more control with your back foot flat on the board when getting low?

The reason why the goofy stance is better is that you have a better grasp of the vehicle’s location coming up behind you. 🤔
Asa beginner, loosening the kingpin bolt brings you extra risks of speed wobble even on small declines.
You got to put weight on that front foot and hang on lol
@@MaalysWorld125 LOL I don''t have the stomach for this!

Doesn’t matter for longboards.
Pushing mongo is less stable because the weight is on the back of the board

Mongo is ok if you're on a longboard and going really far so one leg tires out. Other than that, you should not do it.
