Happy weekend! Recipe is now here on my site www.kylieflavell.com/index.php/2021/08/28/gluten-free-fig-almond-olive-oil-cake/ Nature also gifted us snakes in the house this week - my greatest phobia.😣And they all (yes, there are many!) seem to hide in different parts of the kitchen. So between the figs leaves and the serpenti it was quite a mythical biblical experience baking these cakes. One stayed right in front of the oven precisely when I needed to take the cake out - the only thing greater than my fear of snakes is my fear of a dry overcooked cake! 🙈😂
OMG your good to stay in the house I would have left and been outside no way haha 😂😂😂😂 snakes and spiders nope I can't, I would have piggybacked on Guido so fast hahaha well extra special thank you for this week's episode 😊 sounded like an ordeal 😳 hope they have all left now please, can't stand them snakes. xxx
Oh no! My greatest fear (as an Australian too). I'm already dreading the summer as I live further out in the country than before. May they have begone by now and never return.
Once again..pure beauty! I grew up where food was only seasonal and not brought in from all over the world. There is something special about longing for that first watermelon of the season or springs first sweet pea. Deprivation and memory are powerful in our enjoyment.
Thank you Kylie for this nice repice. I like your kind of videos, it reminds me the real simple and authentic life in Italy. I'm from the south (Salerno, cilento) but I live abroad since 6 years.. ☺️🌷🌾🌳
Che delizioso! My Italian neighbour here in Germany brought a little fig tree back with her from Italy and now it's huge with fat ripe purple figs that she shares with me. In return I give her greens from our garden to feed her chickens. Then I get eggs back! Sharing is wonderful - whether home-grown produce or lovely recipes like yours, Kylie. I love the historical fig pictures at the beginning! Thank you very much.
2 very beautiful cakes! One like a moist cobbler, the other a cake with wonderful fruits. A celebration of our great natural gifts! Thank you for the great glimpse into lie in Italy. ❤️
I was needing a “Kylie fix” and your new episode had not dropped yet. I started watching the Trentino episode and up popped your new video! So lovely… I am not a baker yet, but I cook frequently. Now to find some fresh , ripe figs in the Arizona desert! Blessings on you and Guido!
Happy Saturday from lockdown in Christchurch New Zealand! Looking forward to baking this in the late summer early autumn here. We are at the beginning of spring now!
Che bello...Beautifull..!!! TOSCANA FELIX... La Val d'Orcia è un SOGNO e un luogo dell'ANIMA. Val d'Orcia and Tuscany are a DREAM and a place of SOUL.!!
Kylie, thank you for sharing your Friday evening with us. You put so much love ❤ into your baking I feel that I am with you in the kitchen. I can almost smell the warm cakes right out of the oven. I hope your snake problem does not continue. Outside they are welcome part of nature, in your home not so much. Over the years I have had mice, bats, squirrels and a family of raccoons. I just had to wait until they moved out. Take care and have a nice weekend.
Figs are so elegant to eat and to take in the visual beauty of them with the eyes. This is a lovely simple recipe with few delicious ingredients. Thanks so much....
In the states, only in the south have I seen some of the most excellent fig trees. Figs are finicky, they grow where they choose. It’s the very best southern tradition to use the whole fruit in preserving. Wash the fruit, keep it whole , and add only sugar. Eating this on a hot biscuit on a cold winter day is one of my fondest food memories. I found purely by accident a glorious fig tree in that crazy city of Portland, Oregon. It was a beautiful September day, and it had just rained, leaving the ripe figs freshly washed. Reaching up , picking them to eat fresh off the trees yet another fond food memory.
Beautiful! Thanks for the recipe too! I love picking and enjoying what is fresh and in season. There is something so satisfying about being out side in the sun gathering the fresh food, weeding and tending the garden then sitting down to eat what you’ve harvested. I also love preserving the excess and eating it all winter or giving a jar of soup that I made with fresh ingredients to a sick friend or as holiday gifts. The jars of preserved food look like jewels on the shelf. Today I’m making yellow tomato butter. It’s like sunshine in a jar. It just makes me smile❤️
So beautiful! It is wonderful to see you and Guido so happy, enjoying the simple joys of life! Once again, you made my weekend with this beautiful film!
Another beautiful episode. I feel the same way about our lives and nature. It is very important to be in harmony with what the earth produces and continues to bless us with season after season. Thanks Kylie & Guido❤
They both look so good. Fortunately, we have wonderful figs here in Adelaide. Just have to hang out till late summer before trying it. Thank you Kylie another winner. Happy day!
I have never subscribed and adored a video more than this, I watch and replay her films as an example of what beauty really is. Thank you for making this and teaching me something new every passing time I find myself through these videos, so delicate.
True dedication to your baking Kylie! I love figs and this recipe is fabulous. I am waiting for a friend to come down and bring a fig tree he has grown for me since last summer's lockdown. It will be great to have my own tree. Beautiful film as always and had my mouth watering and of course I will watch it multiple times for the Italian! Thanks for another great start to the weekend.
Grazia Kylie.... always excited to see your work (art). Bella. Yes, I too am and have been learning Italian for years. All four of my Grandparents were born in SIcily. However, My parents would only speak Italian when they wanted to have a private conversation from us kids. Thank you for helping me learn Italian. I was especially impressed when you filmed yourself reading an Italian book.
I want to make a thousnad comment .each one to only talk about one beautiful thing about this video . Your voice in italien and how smooth and gentle you speak . The music . The slow mo's ...the organic things even the eggs seem more vivid (the yolks) i live in northern africa so we almost have the same fruits and veggies when you have them . Figgs though are just starting to ripe .various colours as you said ... My dads loves my sponge cake with apricot jam and won't let me try anything else (thinks it's a waist ) so i'll wait when he's at work and try this masterpiece . Love you kylie bella ❤
Dear Kylie, You always present something special which takes me on a sweet journey through my Mediterranean roots. My italian mother loved figs. We had a Fig tree in our backyard. She would would pick them right off the tree and eat them. Figs always reminds me of my mother. She wasn't much of a baker. She loved Fig Newtons. Thanks for sharing this video. Wonderful .
Kylie, Thank you for this outstanding, delicious Italian Fig Cake. I love to bake and ended up making this cake this afternoon. Went out and picked some figs from my fig tree and started my baking. Once baked and cooled I had it with cup of latte and OMG it was magnificent! Thank you once again, love your channel.
Hi Kylie! How are you! I believe you're well!!!! Nice nice video content! I must see all your videos for the last three weeks very slowly. I had been for the last four weeks in my birth town and I tried to desconect, but I miss you and others content creators. So, now, I am capable to really enjoy and appreciate your wonderful videos. A big hug dear Kylie. Have a great sunday!!!!
The fig tree in spring contrasted with the tree this week - large deep green leaves ...full of majestic bounty... brings a feeling of reverence for Nature's exquisite expression mingled with divine mystery. As, always the video is flowing perfection! Looking forward to baking this. It reminds me of a cake my mother used to make, using Italian prune plums. thank you, Kylie.
My Nanu Rosario had one fig tree in his garden and I hated when the fruit was in season as I never enjoyed eating them although we just ate them off the tree after they were washed / It wasn't until three years ago that I learned to enjoy them from my daughters in-laws trees which were in southern New Mexico! i learned to LOVE them and wish I had this recipe then and also that I dd not have cancer then so as to have energy to make a recipe with them .... ate them after washing them just as I did as a child BUT learned to love them. I saw them at our supermarket the other day so I hope they still have them when I go back! Love, Sharon Rose
I wish we could smell this. Love your channel and Italy. I am new here and started watching your vlogs from the beginning. Have a nice weekend. Hi from Holland.
Just love to have a coffee and watching your channel on Saturday morning. I shared this one with la mia classe italiana. The Food Network should have a series for you. Brava.
Thank God it's Friday - I mean Kylie day. Your videos are the highlight of my Friday's. Has there been any development with il pollaio? Can't wait to see any more renovation films❤️❤️
Awesome cake Kylie. We have already made so much fig compote, dried fig, fig puree (which we also freeze), and also fig candy and syrup. You can never have too many figs. Figs is one of the healthiest "fruit" in the world. About the snakes - you do not need to be afraid (only cautious), most of them is not poisonous. :)
Kylie, just yesterday, I made your lemon ricotta cake-I used gluten free flour-and it turned out spectacular! Everyone who tasted it asked for the recipe! I look forward to trying this one, as well. Thank you so much!!! 🇮🇹♥️
What a lovely start to the weekend. I love figs but will have to go and buy some to make the tart, it looks so delicious. Hope you and Guido are well. Your videos are a wonderful escape to the sun. Thankyou!
Carissima Kylie, ti ingrazio tantissimo ❤️! This morning I prepared this delicious cake for my Italian family and guess what, they liked so much and complimenting you infinitely! The sister of my boyfriend is delicate with gluten so we always had a difficulty preparing something for Sunday lunches for everyone, especially dolce ..... Now you saved our life! It was fantastic experience and result of my work was appreciated 😊 I also like preparing something delicious for the family and here in Italia it's fantastic to have so much variety of fruits and vegetables, as well receipts! Again, many thanks and I wish you more inspirations in your life, in your kitchen and your art! 🌺🌺🌺
There’s definitely something to your videos that dominates all our senses with this tranquility and transcends us to a place that we can only dream. You’re making a fig tart, (which looks delicious btw) and you managed to do just that 💁🏻♀️…that’s just incredible! Never let this go, it’s definitely more than just making videos with you… much more! 🙏🏼😘

Can do without the snakes, however, even if they keep the rats/mice at bay!
Love the reference to seasonality and making do with what is provided - just what we all need - no extra interventions required 🙌
