Binging with Babish: Dinner from WandaVision
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 бер 2021
- WandaVision serves as a richly-detailed love letter to the different eras of tv comedy, a surreal psychological thriller wrapped in a mystery, and the beginning of Marvel's phase 4. Overachieve much? In its inaugural episode, the culinary peculiarities of the 1950s are on full display - well, sort of - a character reads them off. Which is enough of an excuse for me to recreate every dish in painstaking detail!

Mint jelly, in this case, wouldn’t be a brick of gelatin, but instead a spreadable sauce made by blending mint with water, boiling it, straining it, and adding fruit pectin, lemon juice, and salt. I really like it on lamb.

@@samara_w3273 exactly
I think the only thing that throws a wrench in that idea is the fact that she says jellies and asks Wanda if she sets her own jellies.
Although I would be interested in trying mint jelly on meat now that you mention it as a possibility. I’ll try anything at least once.
I've had mint jelly and it's just a slightly firmer mint sauce. Both are great with a roast dinner
that being said, it is the 50s, mint jello isn't that far out for 50's cuisine.
Watching this man forcefully tenderize steak on what looks like a porcelain plate gave me an unreasonable amount of anxiety

A friend of mine has those plates, though in green. I dropped one just the other day and it was totally unfazed. They’re microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe. I’ve baked in the bowls. They’re really durable. I personally wouldn’t do what he did, but I wasn’t surprised when the plate was fine. It’s noritake colorwave.

For YEARS I’ve requested Babs make lobster Thermidor from Lego: Batman, but this will do just fine!

I think it would have been a funny “as seen in the movie” vs. real life because in the movie it just looks like a giant lobster belly down on a plate, but recipe’s I’ve seen show it’s much “fancier”/richer than I thought.
Some other recipes I’ve seen are more intricate than the one Babs used, with sherry added to the sauce, etc.
