Binging with Babish: Dinner from WandaVision

  • WandaVision serves as a richly-detailed love letter to the different eras of tv comedy, a surreal psychological thriller wrapped in a mystery, and the beginning of Marvel's phase 4. Overachieve much? In its inaugural episode, the culinary peculiarities of the 1950s are on full display - well, sort of - a character reads them off. Which is enough of an excuse for me to recreate every dish in painstaking detail!

I strongly encourage adding something like mace, or ground cloves to the mince meat mix. Not a lot, but enough to jazz it up a bit.

I’m from the uk, I pronounce Worcestershire sauce “wuster sauce” or “wustersheer sauce”. Worcestershire has a city called Worcester which is pronounced “wuster” which is what people from here usually shorten the name of the sauce too. Had to comment never heard an American pronounce this correctly.

It's a Babish injoke. He mispronounced Worchestershire sauce in one of his early videos and since then, always tries to find even more batshit ridiculous ways to mispronounce that W sauce.

J Kenji Lopez Alt pronounced it correctly on one of his videos without making a big deal out of it and it was just so *relaxing*. It was funny when it was just Babish, but everyamerican’s been copying the joke and now it’s just a vast sea of “seriously, woo stuh would be fine, I promise, just, just stop”.

I've personally grown up with some tarter jelly, like currant, with finer beef cuts, but also the occasional mint jelly. I never thought it was strange myself, but hey I guess it depends on what you are used to.
